Geography Task Force for Islands?
Hello, everyone. I just have a question: are islands supported by the geography task force? Because in the task force's description, it doesn't mention islands but some island articles are still covered by it nonetheless, where as others aren't. For example, the page Okinawa Islands is supported by the geo task force, while Okinawa Island isn't. — Coastaline (talk) 19:25, 30 September 2020 (UTC)

Template:Japanese mythology and folklore
Template:Japanese mythology and folklore seems like its title and transclusion criteria don't really match its content. The image (which really stands out when transcluded in the wrong article), 5/7 of the "Mythic texts", 8.5/9 of the "Divinities", all of the "Sacred objects", and several (I don't even want to estimate) of the "Mythical and sacred locations" and "Shintōs and Buddhisms" all relate specifically to the mythology of the Kojiki/Nihonshoki (what modern Japanese usually mean when they say nihon-shinwa, or "Japanese mythology") or at least to modern popular Shintoism or "Buddho-Shintoism", but the template is transcluded in pages like Abe no Seimei (a historical figure who, like hundreds of other Japanese historical figures, is revered as a deity in several Shinto shrines, and has apparently had some legends grow up about him, but perhaps not as many as other figures like Kakinomoto no Hitomaro, Sugawara no Michizane, Ono no Komachi or Minamoto no Yoshitsune, of whom perhaps the only one I would consider labeling with this template is Komachi since at least one professional scholar questions her historical existence) and Kwaidan: Stories and Studies of Strange Things (a collection of folkloristic essays and translations of old ghost stories, most of which were written in the Edo period as deliberate fictions).
Even for unambiguous folklore topics like tengu -- which account for the majority of current transclusions -- I would be reluctant to tag them with a template that has such a focus on a specific mythological tradition. Given that most of the articles listed in the template don't actually include the template themselves, it seems like the majority of WP:JAPAN editors (or at least the main authors of these articles) partly agree with me that the template is problematic. What's more, while considering posting this message, and then while drafting it, I came across Template:Japanese folklore long, Template:Jmyth navbox long and Template:Shinto, with at least one of which virtually everything in Template:Japanese mythology and folklore is currently redundant, or at least probably should be. Looking at the history of one of the pages mentioned above, it seems I almost certainly gave my tacit approval for the inclusion in an article that at that time was entirely written by me, so I guess it's possible others here feel about it the same way I probably did back in 2006, but...
Thoughts?
User:Mitsukai has made only one edit since 2010, but the original authors of Template:Japanese folklore long and Template:Shinto are still active, so I might as well ping them.

- I see to my surprise that I am technically the creator of Template:Japanese folklore long, since I apparently split content from an older Template:Jmyth navbox long. I claim no particular expertise in Japanese folklore or mythology, and will defer to members of this project concerning what to do with the templates. Cnilep (talk) 01:07, 9 October 2020 (UTC)
