Hi!

I am planning a complete revision of the article List of acupuncture points. Details on this can be found on the discussion page of the article. There are some issues I have with traditional (chinese) character usage, japanese words and handling by the wikipedia search engine. Furthermore it might be that there are some important details I do know nothing about at the moment.

If this is the right location to ask for kind support, please visit the the discussion page of the article and help me to get a clearer idea of what needs to be done. Otherwise please hint me where I might find help with this.

What does the 鋪 counter count? It appears in the database for cultural properties under "Documents of the Shimazu Family (島津家文書)" as "160鋪" so it is likely some kind of book/paper/scroll/... bamse (talk) 14:05, 5 January 2010 (UTC)

The full set of the Shimazu family reads: 848巻、752帖、2629冊、2幅、4908通、160鋪、207枚. Which I'd translate as 848 (hand) scrolls, 752 folding books, 2629 books (volumes of books), 2 hanging scrolls, 4908 letters, 160鋪, 207 sheets of paper. Is this reasonable? Since there are already 帖 (= folding books), maybe 鋪 could indeed be maps. bamse (talk) 14:20, 5 January 2010 (UTC)

More precisely, a 鋪 is a folded document or documents that are unfolded in order to be read. Like a sheet of paper that is folded in half in one direction and then again in the other direction. Also, I think that you are reading too much into a 帖. It primarily refers to reams of paper; folding book is quite secondary. While I do not know the specifics of the contents, I would generically render the above counters as follows:

• 巻 (kan): rolled scrolls
• 帖 (jō): reams of paper
• 冊 (satsu): bound books
• 幅 (fuku): hanging scrolls
• 通 (tsū): letters
• 鋪 (ho): folded documents
• 枚 (mai): (loose) sheets of paper

As for 帖, it's not ream, but translated as quire. And as a counter word, it's used for 折り本 and folding screen. Oda Mari (talk) 15:51, 5 January 2010 (UTC)

I called Bunkacho.

• 巻 (kan): rolled scrolls
• 帖 (jō):bound books. Pages are just like today's books.
• 冊 (satsu): bound books by fukuro-toji/袋とじ which means binding folded uncut pages in a book. So there are blank two pages between two pages outside.
• 幅 (fuku): hanging scrolls
• 通 (tsū): a letter written on a single sheet of paper.
• 鋪 (ho): a map consists of sheets of paper. Sheets were glued.
• 枚 (mai): a single sheet map.

Bunkacho and all experts use the same definition for all old documents. They are the counting words for all 古文書. But the man I talked with said 帖 is used for 折り本 and 枚 for some drawings too. FYI

Formerly the name of Japanese law was translated like "Law Concerning the Promotion of the Measures to Cope with Global Warming". However a translation project has inaugurated in 2005 and the "Standard legal term Japanese-English bilingual dictionary"[3] was published. According to this dictionary, "...に関する法律" is translated to "Act on ...". Japanese Low Translation home page is here. This may be related to MOS:JP By the way, 国旗及び国歌に関する法律(currently "Law Regarding the National Flag and National Anthem") is translated to "Act on National Flag and Anthem"[4] ―― Phoenix7777 (talk) 10:34, 7 January 2010 (UTC)

When I did the move last night, I used the official term of the government for that law instead of trying to focus on the dictionary. If you use the old term for the law, it will still act as a redirect (even though I replaced all instances of it, was about 10 or so). User:Zscout370 ^{(Return Fire)} 18:08, 7 January 2010 (UTC)

As for the proposal, it's best to not have parentheses in category names. On second thought, I am not sure it is a good idea to use the same system of categorization as on commons. Commons and wikipedia are quite different regarding National Treasures. On commons there are lots of pictures (could be more) that show National Treasures of Japan so it makes sense to categorize these pictures by type of the national treasure (paintings, sculptures, temple structure,...). Here on wikipedia, there are very few articles (should be more!) on National Treasures (for instance Taima Mandala or Genji Monogatari Emaki). Most likely there will not be dedicated articles on most of the national treasures anytime soon. On wikipedia most of the National Treasures are covered by articles on temples, shrines and museums which are owners or custodians of national treasures. In which category shall we put these articles? I'd like to get some order in the rather messy Category:National Treasures of Japan. Maybe as a minimal change one could distinguish between structures ("Category:Structural National Treasures of Japan" or something like it) and crafts ("Category:Crafts National Treasures of Japan")!? bamse (talk) 10:53, 13 January 2010 (UTC)

I am looking for a wikipedia-usable picture of a typical sign of a National Treasure of Japan. Unfortunately I cannot find an example picture of what I mean. If I remember correctly, the sign has pentagon shape, brown or black background and some of the text is red. Similar signs exist for Historic Sites and Important Cultural Properties of Japan, but I'd need one which says "国宝" (National Treasure) on it. It would be great if somebody could upload such picture or direct me to a free picture. As I (very slowly) expand the number of articles on Nippon's electoral districts I was wondering what kind of NavBox would be more useful: a prefecture-by-prefecture approach (as in the US congressional district articles):

or one country-wide navbox for any period (as in (ja): Template:衆議院小選挙区一覧, 衆議院中選挙区一覧(1947-1993))? One problem with the former is that present-day PR blocks do not fit into a prefectural scheme though one could add them as ~ "part of the Northern Kantō proportional representation block" or something to that effect. Major two sections "Damage" and "Response," in which probably most of readers are interested, are almost thoroughly sourceless. Description of an earthquake calamity, if based on rumors or groundless belief, may have bad influence for people's preparation for another earthquake and sense of disaster prevention. I'm working on translating character bios for a Japanese anime. One of the terms that is stumping me is "ジ・シュルネン". It is used to refer to a dragon going into a frenzy, but I've been unable to find a meaning to the term itself.128.211.165.43 (talk) 00:19, 23 January 2010 (UTC)

I can assure you it's not German, I'm a native speaker and I don't recognize any German word that resembles it. I guess it's just made up to sound like German (Wenn ist das Nunstruck git und Slotermeyer?) FYI - A massive discussion is taking place at a Request for comment (RfC) Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Biographies of living people. About 50k of articles are currently unreferenced and therefore in danger of deletion, some of those are on Japanese subjects, like Alfred Birnbaum (quite famous) and Hiroyuki Togo (may be of minor notability, now moved here User:AeronPeryton/Articles/Hiroyuki Togo ) which were both speedy deleted for that reason. Hiroshi Kaneda (now referenced) and Takashi Okamura (comedian) (now gutted) were proposed for deletion. Satoshi Inoue (musician) is currently proposed for deletion. I can see that some editors recently have referenced Chisato Moritaka, Yuji Naka and Hiroshi Abe (astronomer). Yet, many articles are still unreferenced, for instance Hiroko Suzuki, Masaaki Yaguchi and Yasuyuki Kazama. The cleanup link in the title above points to a list of unreferenced articles with the WikiProject Japan template on its talk page. Please revise articles on the list,

1. review them for contentious unsourced information pr WP:BLP concerns
2. add references (you may e.g. lift references from the Japan page, if that page exists)
3. remove the {{BLP unsourced}} template from the article.

@Nihonjoe I should point you that the Unsourced Japanese voice actors are not just anime voice actors. There are others voices actors for movies, video games & visual novels. Those BLP are not withing Anime/Manga project scope and Animanga doesn't have the proper set of skills to fix them. --KrebMarkt 07:40, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

Feel free to add them to this list. I'm working through the categories as quickly as I can, but there are a lot of them and I'm only one person. You don't need to be able to read Japanese to place people on that list. The list is composed entirely of English-language articles. And if there is a specific article you have questions about (as far as a Japanese-language reference article), you can always post here and get some help with it.
