Feedback on major project concerning Japan and the CIA

I'm writing an article about CIA activities in Japan and i'm worried that the POV is too biased against the agency.
If you'd like to give some feedback I would be very grateful.

Assessing Shrine Shinto

The article Shrine Shinto inherited its assessment through a merge of an old page. Can someone reassess it to determine where it falls now?Immanuelle 💗 (please tag me) 20:13, 9 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Unknown Kanji pronounciations

Is there any way to standardly write unknown pronounciations of Kanji in words? Immanuelle 💗 (please tag me) 11:52, 12 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Immanuelle: Not really. What's the word? ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 19:00, 13 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Request for help finding reliable sources in Japanese

Hello, all. I'm hoping to be able to write a Wikipedia article on a Japanese kami/kappa called Kuzenbo (九千坊), but there are almost no sources in English on this character. I have found a single blog post (written by somebody named Dr. Gabi Greeve) that mentions his myth that features him fighting Katō Kiyomasa, and that the legend originates from Fukuoka. Other than that, there is nothing I can find. So I'm here to ask if anybody here can help me find reliable sources in Japanese on this character so that I can write a page. Thank you in advance. Di (they-them) (talk) 00:42, 12 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Di (they-them): The 河童 article on jawiki has these refs for the sentences talking about it:
  • 本堂清『河童物語』 批評社 2015年 ISBN 978-4-82-650630-4 pp.18,36.
  • 石川純一郎『河童の世界』新版 時事通信社 1985年 ISBN 978-4-78-878515-1 pp.83-84.
Hope that helps! ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 19:06, 13 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Are these Haori

I am looking at this image Miko_clothing#Haori: are these Haori there Immanuelle 💗 (please tag me) 17:44, 4 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

So to clarify I am looking for images of Miko wearing Haori in contrast to Chihaya. Does this image satisfy it? Immanuelle 💗 (please tag me) 10:23, 5 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Immanuelle: I'm almost 100% positive those are chihaya, not haori. The sleeves are too long to be haori. It would make sense for miko to be wearing chihaya more than for them to wear haori, especially when they're in formal dress like this. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 23:31, 13 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Rewriting Togakushi Shrine

Togakushi Shrine has a rewrite suggestion. Can we establish that it is actually needed? There is nothing on the talk page talking about itImmanuelle 💗 (please tag me) 16:27, 1 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Immanuelle: I would say so, yes. Significant portions of it just don't make much sense, it has Google search results as one citation, and one part reads like a tour guide excerpt. Erynamrod (talk) 18:45, 1 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Big parts are unsourced.Xx236 (talk) 10:47, 14 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

New Sect Shinto

I found the article New Sect Shinto and proposed it for deletion as it seems to not have Japanese sources supporting its existence. Has anyone ever heard of this before as contrasting with Sect Shinto? Immanuelle 💗 (please tag me) 18:06, 13 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Immanuelle: I've removed the prod as there are multiple sources which are likely reliable. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 19:00, 13 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I'm the author of the article. It was merged with Sect Shinto.Sarcelles (talk) 17:53, 14 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Sarcelles: Yes, I'm the one who merged it. It was too small to be its own article. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 18:21, 14 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
There actually were sources for the concept of New Sect Shinto. However, this is hardly used in Japan.Sarcelles (talk) 19:29, 18 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Would "Nemuri-ju" (sleeping guns, legally licensed but no longer in use by an elderly owner) be a valid topic for at least a basic article? Could use help from Japanese speakers

I've run across just a few mentions online of "nemuri-ju," supposedly a term in Japan for hunting/sporting firearms that are legally licensed but the owner is too old to use them, thus representing firearms vulnerable to theft or misuse due to lack of routine accountability. Can anyone who speaks Japanese verify if this is a WP:Notable term, and if so if we can find two other works to cite to get at least a valid stub going? Thanks MatthewVanitas (talk) 05:17, 22 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I think it might be appropriate to have a sentence at Overview of gun laws by nation#Japan, but I wouldn't try to make this an article. The term doesn't technically mean that "the owner is too old to use" the gun (usually a hunting rifle), but rather that the gun itself is not being used (for whatever reason). In other words, it's just an idiomatic term for "unused gun". I don't have direct knowledge of this but from what I gather, if a gun is not used for more than three years then it is considered an unused gun and the permit for it can be revoked on those grounds (or the permit will not be renewed). Hyuga myth?

What is Hyuga myth? I've seen it with Three generations of Hyuga and Tamayori-hime (Hyuga myth). Is it worthy of an article of its own? Immanuelle 💗 (please tag me) 06:10, 16 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

There is some background at ja:日向国#飛鳥・奈良・平安時代, but I would advise against translating this sort of thing from the Japanese Wikipedia just by copying over their sources without reviewing them directly. They might not be considered universally reliable on the English Wikipedia—particularly when the subject is basically a form of pseudohistory to begin with. To answer the question, my understanding is that Himuka/Hyuga was a way the Kojiki and Nihon Shoki tried to justify imperial rule over Kyushu. Dekimasuよ! 10:54, 22 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Geography - unsourced, many errors

Many old pages describing geography of Japan are unsourced and misinforming. Frequently 'gava River'. Gava means a river. I bet there are many similar errors. Some verificating-correcting project is needed. Xx236 (talk) 10:45, 14 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Do you mean gawa rather than gava? I don't think gava is a Japanese word. That being said, it's pretty common for English names for foreign language rivers etc to be tautological with two language versions of river. Also other geographical and non-geographical features. Don't even get me started on The Los Angeles Angels. So if the common English version uses the word river, even if gawa is in the name in Japanese, then that's the common English name. Canterbury Tail talk 12:57, 14 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Please source the names. 'Sasaogawa' at the beginning. I am unable.
Regarding Ongagawa River I have not invented the problem https://visit-fukuoka-japan.com/todo/other_spots/400000009142/, https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q11642388 , https://www.researchgate.net/figure/Onga-River-basin-and-sub-catchments-shown-on-geological-base-map-modified-from-Tran-et_fig1_257885284
Regarding the main subject 'unsourced, many errors'. There are hundreds of such old pages. They should be at least marked as unreliable.
There is a controversy regarding Aburagi Dam, Geography section. I have tried to Wikify it, the result is here Draft:Ima River, different than the original text. Even if we assume 'Imagawa', 'Mueasakigawa' and 'Haraigawa'. 'Kyoto District'????

Tone River or Tonegawa?Xx236 (talk) 07:04, 21 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Aimata Dam - Minami probably an error.Xx236 (talk) 07:08, 21 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • If necessary, a subsection could be added to MOS:JPPLACE, but in the lack of one, it seems that we would go by WP:COMMONNAME as usual. Many of the river titles are used almost interchangeably in English. Dekimasuよ! 11:00, 22 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
