Suzukake no Ki no Michi de "Kimi no Hohoemi o Yume ni Miru" to Itte Shimattara Bokutachi no Kankei wa Dō Kawatte Shimau no ka, Bokunari ni Nan-nichi ka Kangaeta Ue de no Yaya Kihazukashii Ketsuron no Yō na Mono (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) has been nominated for renaming. What is the commonly used abbreviated title in Japan for this song? And should this song keep this very long title, or should it use some sort title. (What do fans of AKB48 actually call this thing? Obviously, they don't use the full title when talking about it in common conversation / netforums ) -- 76.65.128.112 (talk) 04:59, 3 January 2014 (UTC)

Globis University Graduate School of Management

Surprised at the prominence given to the unfamiliar name "Globis University Graduate School of Management" within the article on Tokyo, I took a look at the article on the former. What I saw I didn't appreciate. Itsmejudith and I have streamlined it quite a bit (it's currently in this state), but it needs a lot more work.

Incidentally, the institution does use the name "Globis University Graduate School of Management" in English. (And this is a calque on what does seem to be its Japanese name.) But it seems to use "Globis Business School" a lot more. OTOH the longer and grander name may be an umbrella term covering more than the shorter one. I confess that I'm now too exhausted by editing on the matter to want to investigate just which term refers to exactly what, so I leave this for others. -- Hoary (talk) 10:04, 3 January 2014 (UTC)

So-called Niijima

Someone has created an article called Niijima (Ogasawara) about the new island formed near Nishinoshima (Ogasawara). I am wondering whether this is not only too soon, but also mistakenly titled. None of the sources given in the article actually call it "Niijima", and while there are some in English out there ([1]), I think they are based on mistaken readings of the Japanese. I have watched dozens of Japanese TV news reports on the new island and not a single one calls it "Niijima". They use the kanji 新島 (which simply means "new island) on screen, but the announcers merely say "atarashii shima" because it has not been given an official name as I understand. Even the Japanese Wikipedia article calls it "Nishinoshima-oki no shintō" (ja:西之島新島_(2013年)). In the least the article needs to be retitled, but to what? Given that recent reports are speculating that the island will just join up with Nishinoshima and cease to exist as an island, I wonder whether it is not best to wait and see what happens before creating such an article. Michitaro (talk) 00:58, 19 December 2013 (UTC)

Note that there is a discussion on the talk page of the Japanese Wikipedia article on whether that article should even exist: ja:ノート:西之島新島 (2013年). Michitaro (talk) 01:05, 19 December 2013 (UTC)
As the new islet is now a part of Nishinoshima, I think the new article Niijima (Ogasawara) should be merged into Nishinoshima (Ogasawara). Ref. is [2]. Oda Mari (talk) 08:18, 27 December 2013 (UTC)
Note that I started a merge discussion at Talk:Nishinoshima (Ogasawara). Michitaro (talk) 21:12, 3 January 2014 (UTC)

request for expansion from Japanese article: Nairobi Japanese School

Would anyone mind checking ja:ナイロビ日本人学校 and adding additional info to Nairobi Japanese School from the Japanese article?

Question about Gyosei International School UK website

At http://web.archive.org/web/20010206065957/http://www.gis.ac.jp/gaiyou/gaiyou_index.html I'm trying to find where there is a link to the Gyosei International School UK website. I don't know what the old URL of the school is, though the post-secondary college did have a URL WhisperToMe (talk) 19:02, 9 January 2014 (UTC)

Can I get a third opinion at Talk:Yamanoue no Okura?

(I am a user with an established history in this area. Technical problems are preventing me from making edits while logged in.) Juzumaru wants to remove all reference to the theory that Okura had originally been a refugee from Baekje. This, as far as I can tell, is a mainstream theory supported by the vast majority of scholars today. I have been asked to list the scholars who accept it and give detailed info on their academic backgrounds. This seems unreasonable since all I am trying to say is that a lot of scholars (Nakanishi, Keene, Levy, etc.) buy it. WP:BURDEN appears to be on my side here, but no matter how much evidence I present Juzumaru seems unwilling to listen. 182.249.240.3 (talk) 02:26, 11 January 2014 (UTC)

Is Shoei Christian College for Girls still in operation?

Is the Shoei Christian College for Girls still in operation? I can't find a dedicated website and the Japanese wikipedia page for "Shoei Gakuin" redirects to the girls' junior high and high school.

Thanks WhisperToMe (talk) 19:54, 9 January 2014 (UTC)

Neither the "History" section of the school website nor the Japanese Wikipedia article mention a junior college ever existing in Japan. The school does help run the Winchester Shoei College in England, but that seems to be the only college it runs. I wonder if the English language sources cited in the article are not mistaken. Michitaro (talk) 03:35, 10 January 2014 (UTC)
There is a college called Shoei Junior College in Kobe. The kanji is the same 頌栄. I guess there's confusion of these two schools. Oda Mari (talk) 06:08, 10 January 2014 (UTC)
Thank you for the information. I redirected the page to Shoei Girls' Junior and Senior High School, reflecting the Japanese Wikipedia's redirects. WhisperToMe (talk) 02:37, 11 January 2014 (UTC)

Japanese School in Bucharest: AFD: Is there sufficient sourcing?

The AFD for the Japanese School in Bucharest has not gotten responses since my post. Would anyone knowing Japanese mind checking out the sources and seeing if there is sufficient notability demonstrated? WhisperToMe (talk) 00:12, 13 January 2014 (UTC)

Circulation of Japan Spotlight (Journal of Japanese Trade & Industry)?

Does anyone know how to find the circulation of the Japan Spotlight (Journal of Japanese Trade & Industry)? It might be useful for that article.

DYK Kanako Momota

Moscow Connection nominated Kanako Momota at Did You Know and has been asked to make numerous changes to the article. Japanese is not this editor's language, and the sources are in Japanese. Can anyone here help on that template? — Maile (talk) 22:34, 24 January 2014 (UTC)

I have come in possession of a Japanese source that can be used in expanding the article to meet the DYK requirements. I can send it by email to anyone who is willing to help. But keep in mind that it is a scan. --Moscow Connection (talk) 10:03, 26 January 2014 (UTC)
