Is Kanbun a Pidgin language

Basically, the Wikipedia page about Kanbun says that it is a creole or a pidgin, based on a single source, in Japanese, titled "'Kundoku' as a Pidgin-Creole Language". I can't read or even access that source. Based on the rest of the article, Kanbun Kundoku seems to be a way of annotating Chinese writing so it can be more easily understood by Japanese people. This can't be a creole and, although one source I found online described "simplification", it really doesn't sound like a pidgin either. Could I edit the article (and articles linking to Kanbun) to frame its pidgin status as just one author's opinion, rather than, say, the consensus of experts on the matter. I know I don't have any sources saying Kanbun isn't a pidgin, but I feel the current article gives undue weight to a single source. User:Error has already expressed skepticism on Talk:Kanbun, I'd appreciate feedback and discussion there. I don't think either is accurate, as Kanbun isn't a natural language, it is a literary language used in writing and reading.Fulmard (talk) 20:00, 1 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

In 2017, an IP editor whose only edits are to add references to this idea/book was briefly active on both the Japanese Wikipedia and here. I would support the idea that mentioning this qualifies as undue weight. It's one chapter in an edited volume and while the title is somewhat polemical and can be translated in the way shown here, it can also be understood as a kind of hypothetical (e.g., "Considering [the implications of calling] kanbun a pidgin/creole language"). Overall, the analysis would have to depend upon a redefinition of "pidgin" and "creole" to incorporate this niche case at the very least, so on balance I would support removal. Arama Japan

Can anyone definitively tell me what the Japan Project's stance on Arama Japan as a source is? To the best of my knowledge it's a fan blog/fan-run site, nowhere near being a reliable or high quality source, and generally shouldn't be used on WP. Based on the few instances in the past that I can recall of it cropping up in conversations on BLP talk pages, as well as some music related ones, and the opinions of the editors in those discussions, I'm inclined to believe this is still the case. A quick search on WP shows 400 instances of it being cited at present, however, this talk page's archives don't contain any discussion(s) about it. -- Carlobunnie (talk) 03:48, 4 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I have never heard of this site before, but their "About" and "Staff" pages say the site is run by volunteers and that the creators are university students outside of Japan. To me, this means it is WP:USERGENERATED and would therefore be deprecated, although their material may derive from other reliable sources. Dekimasuよ! 04:57, 4 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Transl help

Could someone please translate this article title "『レコ大』各賞受賞者決定 "2連覇"狙うLiSA 新人賞にINI&特別賞にAdoら" for me? The best version I have (out of all the translators I tried) so far is "LiSA, aiming for a second consecutive win, and INI and Ado, who won the Newcomer Award and the Special Award, respectively, were selected as winners of the "Rekodai" awards", but I think it's a bit off since the article announced confirmed winners, and "aiming for" makes it sound like winners weren't decided yet. -- Carlobunnie (talk) 16:41, 6 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The "top winners" had been chosen, but they hadn't yet been announced. What's on the top of the page is the list of "Excellent Songs Awards" and "New Artist Awards" (basically nominees) out of which a "very best song" (the 日本レコード大賞, the Grand Prix record) and "Best New Artist Award" (最優秀新人賞) were selected. In the other categories there was no distinction between getting nominated and winning the "best" prize. I would translate this as, "Winners of the 'Japan Record Awards' Selected: LiSA Seeks a Grand Prix Repeat; INI Among the New Artist Awardees, and Ado Among the Special Award Recipients". Wikimedia ESEAP Conference 2022 on November 18-20 in Sydney, Australia

The Wikimedia East, South East Asia and the Pacific also known as ESEAP will be having an in-person conference in Sydney, Australia on November 18-20. ESEAP is a regional collaborative composed of nationalities & Wikimedia affiliates of Indonesia, Taiwan, Australia, Korea, Thailand, Philippines, Malaysia, Myanmar, New Zealand, Hong Kong, and Vietnam. Membership also include nationalities and informal communities of Brunei, Cambodia, China, Japan, Laos, Macau, Mongolia, Papua New Guinea, Singapore, and Timor Leste.

The goals for the conference are:

  • Strategic discussions: ESEAP Hub governance, process of moving from an informal group to more formal structure aligned with the Hubs/Minimum Criteria for Pilots
  • Partnership, Tools & Skills: Outreach and community collaboration support networks; building a network of skill sets so that communities in the region can provide extra outreach support and collaboration across the region; and
  • Leadership development through building networks that encourage new and wider diversity of participants to enable future growth

Netsuke masters

User @Gryffindor: drew my attention to this page: Sōken Kishō‎, concerning a (very) old book listing netsuke masters. I corrected some Hepburn errors, and tidied up a bit, but there are some doubtful bits in the only source cited - at least one, the omission of 'ya' from 大黒屋, surely an error in the source. The problem is there is no easy way to crosscheck any of this, and I honestly cannot personally see the point of an article which is almost entirely a list of the contents of a single book, a list which really cannot mean anything to anyone who cannot read Japanese, surely. Which person is this talking about?

This The New York Times stated that a "Tokugawa Yoshihisa", the "late shogoon" was wrongly called "Stotbashi" in previous articles because the journalists mistook his title for his actual name. But I can't find a shogun with the name "Tokugawa Yoshihisa" (the Tokugawa Yoshihisa (德川 慶久) I'm aware of is an heir to the last shogun
