IJA Regiments?

Greetings, all. I was cleaning up and wikifying the article on Aomori City, and came upon a reference to the "5th Infantry Regiment" created and stationed there in the Meiji period.

I poked around Category:Japanese World War II divisions and various articles and categories it links to and see no reference to "regiments". As far as I can tell, there is no category or list on English Wikipedia for "Infantry Regiments of the Imperial Japanese Army." A search for "IJA Regiments" yields no immediately, starkly useful results, and a search for 連隊 yields none at all.

This is far from my field of expertise, so I'm hoping someone here might know how this ought to be rephrased or what it ought to link to (even if it's a red link). Yoroshiku. LordAmeth (talk) 17:35, 5 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

5th Infantry Regiment (Imperial Japanese Army) would be consistent with the naming convention used for divisions. Nick-D (talk) 00:10, 29 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This is a notice to let you know about Article alerts, a fully-automated subscription-based news delivery system designed to notify WikiProjects and Taskforces when articles are entering Articles for deletion, Requests for comment, Peer review and other workflows (full list). The reports are updated on a daily basis, and provide brief summaries of what happened, with relevant links to discussion or results when possible. A certain degree of customization is available; WikiProjects and Taskforces can choose which workflows to include, have individual reports generated for each workflow, have deletion discussion transcluded on the reports, and so on. An example of a customized report can be found here.

If you are already subscribed to Article Alerts, it is now easier to report bugs and request new features. We are also in the process of implementing a "news system", which would let projects know about ongoing discussions on a wikipedia-wide level, and other things of interest. The developers also note that some subscribing WikiProjects and Taskforces use the display=none parameter, but forget to give a link to their alert page. Your alert page should be located at "Wikipedia:PROJECT-OR-TASKFORCE-HOMEPAGE/Article alerts". Questions and feedback should be left at Wikipedia talk:Article alerts.

Message sent by User:Addbot to all active wiki projects per request, Comments on the message and bot are welcome here.

Changes to popular pages lists

There are a few important changes to the popular pages system. A quick summary:

  • The "importance" ranking (for projects that use it) will be included in the lists along with assessment.
  • The default list size has been lowered to 500 entries (from 1000)
  • I've set up a project on the Toolserver for the popular pages - tools:~alexz/pop/.
    • This includes a page to view the results for projects, including the in-progress results from the current month. Currently this can only show the results from a single project in one month. Features to see multiple projects or multiple months may be added later.
    • This includes a new interface for making requests to add a new project to the list.
    • There is also a form to request a change to the configuration for a project. Currently the configurable options are the size of the on-wiki list and the project subpage used for the list.
  • The on-wiki list should be generated and posted in a more timely and consistent manner than before.
  • The data is now retained indefinitely.
  • The script used to generate the pages has changed. The output should be the same. Please report any apparent inconsistencies (see below).
  • Bugs and feature requests should be reported using the Toolserver's bug tracker for "alexz's tools" - [1]

I am looking for somebody to help out with the list of National Treasure swords. A start has been made here, but as I don't know much about swords, any help would be appreciated. (It is the only remaining of the National Treasure of Japan lists.) bamse (talk) 09:19, 28 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Glossary of Japanese swords

Hi! A while ago I started to read about Japanese swords and ran into lots of technical terms which made reading difficult. So I created the Glossary of Japanese swords article which might be useful for other non-experts as well. There are still many terms to be added. Feel free to do so. You also might want to link it in some of the sword related articles. bamse (talk) 23:51, 16 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This article needs a bit of help with the cleanup. I've added one source, though I'm sure there are others to be found), and I've done a quick-and-dirty combining of the two POV section which now make up the Timeline section. If there are others who would be willing to help with putting a bit more polish on this one, I'd appreciate it. This is an area of history I'm not as familiar with, so I'm just groping around in the dark. Thanks! ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WikiProject Japan! 03:06, 15 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
