Cipango

I'd like to translate any version of d:Q1352587 in English. What is its English name? Cipango? Zipangu? Jipangu?--Nickanc (talk) 23:36, 3 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Looking at the Japanese version ja:ジパング, it appears to be about an old European name for Japan, right? The topic is already covered at Names of Japan, which has a section on the name at Names of Japan#Jipangu. So I do not think we need a separate article. Help finding sources?

I came across this student draft and offhand it seems like the work should be notable. It just needs better sourcing to back up claims of notability, since I don't know that the newspaper prize that this short story won is enough to give notability, given that this is its main claim to fame in the article at this point in time. It was republished as part of a collection in 2000, but there's not a huge amount out there about said collection either.

The draft is Draft:Will o' the Wisp (short story). Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 11:15, 4 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Tokyogirl79: Based on a quick reading, it seems there are enough claims to fame (the award, being the first (or part of the first) in a couple areas) to meet notability. I'll see what I can find as far as references. I think it's almost there. We'll need to remove the reference which points to a Wikipedia article. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 16:18, 4 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Tokyogirl79: Hi, I websurfed and found that the section Yamanoha Nobuko could refer to the author's other prizes as follows. And to avoid cross reference to Wikipedia, how about other sources including those I list here.
  • 琉球新報短編小説賞 (Short Novels Prize, Ryukyu Shinpo); candidate for the prize at the 9th competition (October 1981) and 11th (November 1983). Won the first prize at the 12th competition, December 1984, and out of 66 applications and among five finalists.
  • 新沖縄文学賞 (Shin Okinawa bungakusho): won a prize for the 10th competition, 1984. Okinawa bungakusho was founded in 1975 to commemorate the 30th issue of 新沖縄文学 (Shin Okinawa Bungaku) and it was organized by Okinawa Times. Applicants must be living/born in Okinawa prefecture. For 1984 competition, the volume of work was regulated to be around 40,000 characters.
  • 九州芸術祭文学賞 (Kyushu Geijutsusai Bungakusho): Excellent Work of Regions for the 16th competition, on January 20th, 1986. Awarded works were reviewed on 文學界 (Bungakkai), March 1986 issue by Atsushi Mori, Shun Akiyama, and Hiroyuki Itsuki. The prize was organized by 財団法人(公益財団法人)九州文化協会 (Kyushu Bunkakyokai) and presented at an annual arts festival. Co-organized by all prefectures on Kyushu Island and Okinawa, along with three cities designated by cabinet order of Fukuoka, Kitakyushu and Kumamoto.
There is an anthology for female authors of the western Japan published a study group 西日本女性文学研究会" (Nishinihon Josei Bungaku Kenkyukai), where Yamanoha was selected for "西日本女性文学案内 (Handbook for Female Authors in the Western Japan), published by Hanashoin, February 20, 2016. 185 pages and 289 contents.
For Battle of Okinawa, references could include, but not only: by Public Broadcasting System that civilians, perhaps as many as 100,000 to 150,000 Okinawan men, woman, and children lost their lives during the nearly three months of fighting.
History net introduces the battle of Okinawa, also known as Operation Iceberg, took place in April-June 1945. Estimated 500,000 civilians lived in cities, towns and villages before the war in Okinawa. --Omotecho (talk) 23:23, 19 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I wonder if the project could have a look at this article and advise on whether it should be improved or proposed for deletion? K.e.coffman (talk) 21:15, 13 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@K.e.coffman: I'm curious why you would want it deleted. It would fail proposed deletion as it is decently sourced from very reliable sources. It would fail AfD, too, for the same reason. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 02:44, 20 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@K.e.coffman: I second error: {{nihongo}}: Japanese or romaji text required (help), and to improve and expand the body text as well. At least, mention its history since foundation in 1984 by a Maryknoll missionary, and correct Sanya district (city in China) to San'ya (district near Asakusa). The article could be expanded as for one of the first day laborers and homeless supporting body in Japan. The related article Jean Le Beau, the leader of Sanyukai, is also a stub and not good enough to link, while the information there could be added here as "Sanyukai was awarded by Tokyo Bar Association for supporting human rights in 2010". --Omotecho (talk) 21:42, 20 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Translation to Japanese

Hello. I would greatly appreciate if there is anyone that can help me in Japanese Wikipedia to translate this article into Japanese. I'm also a very big fan of Japanese culture and would be happy to do the same if there is a particular article that you wish to be translated into Persian language. --AlmaBeta (talk) 06:18, 21 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@AlmaBeta: It would probably be best to ask at ja:Wikipedia:Help for Non-Japanese Speakers. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 18:42, 21 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Nihonjoe: I made a request there. Thank You! --AlmaBeta (talk) 03:48, 22 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Unsoured,mostly mammals. Why this animals? Why no insects?Xx236 (talk) 10:53, 29 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure that lists like these (List of animals of country X) are useful at all. They will always be incomplete and/or very basic, not giving more information than a category would. More specialized lists like these do make sense to me, but not this general one. bamse (talk) 13:40, 29 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with bamse. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 16:37, 29 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
