Speedy deletion nomination of Category:Polish-Lithuanian military units of Kościuszko Uprising

A tag has been placed on Category:Polish-Lithuanian military units of Kościuszko Uprising requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Navigation

Hallo, Thank you for creating Kravica (river). When you create an article like this with a "disambiguated" title, please make sure that the reader can find it from the basic name (ie Kravica), by adding or expanding a hatnote, or adding the article to a disambiguation page. This helps the reader to find your article, and also reduces the chance of a future careless editor creating a duplicate article with a slightly different disambiguator. I've fixed this one. Thanks, and Happy Editing. PamD 22:19, 24 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Vilamovian

Hi,

Thanks for the edits on Vilamovians. Have you considered moving Wymysorys language to 'Vilamovian language'? It is the official rendering used by Google. Oliszydlowski (talk) 14:11, 4 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I actually did, but I'm not really sure which one is the more recognized version of the name. An additional problem is that a lot of internet results seem to literally quote Wikipedia, saying "Wymysorys, also known as Vilamovian", which complicates determining the name. It seems like term "Wymysorys" is more popular, including, amoung sources already uses by the Wikipedia article itself. Yet the name "Vilamovian" still seems to be in use, being used for example by Google (https://artsandculture.google.com/entity/vilamovian-language/m038xbg?hl=en), though I don't know if this is an official decision made by the Google team or rather automated or community decision. Also, I see it being used by Wikiprojects in an inconsistent way, including Wikidictionary using the name "Vilamovian" (https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Category:Vilamovian_language). WikiProject assessment tags for talk pages

Thank you for your recent articles, including Polish–Lithuanian Neutral Strip, which I read with interest. When you create a new article, can you add the WikiProject assessment templates to the talk of that article? See the talk page of the article I mentioned for an example of what I mean. Usually it is very simple, you just add something like {{WikiProject Keyword}} to the article's talk, with keyword replaced by the associated WikiProject (ex. if it's a biography article, you would use WikiProject Biography; if it's a United States article, you would use WikiProject United States, and so on). You do not have to rate the article if you do not want to, others will do it eventually. Those templates are very useful, as they bring the articles to a WikiProject attention, and allow them to start tracking the articles through Wikipedia:Article alerts and other tools. For example, WikiProject Poland relies on such templates to generate listings such as Article Alerts, Popular Pages, Quality and Importance Matrix and the Cleanup Listing. Thanks to them, WikiProject members are more easily able to defend your work from deletion, or simply help try to improve it further. Feel free to ask me any questions if you'd like more information about using those talk page templates. Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 08:24, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I have undone your cut-and-paste page move

Information icon Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give Los Altos (state) a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into State of Los Altos. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases for registered users, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you. — Diannaa 🇨🇦 (talk) 12:31, 29 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

An article you recently created, Tunis, Sohag Governorate, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. WikiProject assessment tags for talk pages

Thank you for your recent articles, including Szczecin pumps, which I read with interest. Speedy deletion nomination of Kingdom of Poland (1025–1031)

Hello Artemis Andromeda,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Kingdom of Poland (1025–1031) for deletion, because it seems to be copied from another source, probably infringing copyright.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to rewrite it in your own words, you can contest this deletion, but don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks!

Hello @John B123:. I want to disagree. I copied the text in question from the article Mieszko II Lambert. The said article was by itself translated (mostly without majoir changes) from Polish article. If anything, the page https://www.geni.com/people/Mieszko-II-Lambert-king-of-Poland/6000000000768959047 that was marked as "orignal" copied its text from Wikipedia. It even gives links to Wikipedia articles and have classical source markers such as "[1]" within its text, clearly showing that text was copy pasted from Wikipedia.
Example: "...he married with Richeza (Ryksa),[2] daughter ...". I hope, that this misunderstanding will be fixed soon. Artemis Andromeda (talk) 16:42, 27 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Your articles on Poland

Hi Artemis Andromeda.

@Artemis Andromeda: - Thank you for your contribution to the articles you have made on Poland, notably the Duchies and Kingdoms. However, I do see certain problems. Firstly, these are so-called WP:Stub articles which are quote "too short to provide encyclopedic coverage of a subject". Such articles should be avoided, moreover the number of these create nothing more but confusion. One should not be copying information from other pages related to the subject and pasting them into brand new articles, which subsequently become duplicates. The increasing number of these articles hurts the credibility of Wikipedia as a whole. Deleting your articles would undermine the work you have done and, after all, these are sourced. I'd suggest merging these into a single 'Kingdom of Poland' and a single 'Duchy of Poland'. The difference between all the duchies and kingdoms is minimal really. All the information you included would be then placed under appropriate headings in the history section. Merangs (talk) 09:09, 10 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Please see also discussion here. We may be best off trying to centralize the discussion at WT:POLAND. This topic (periodization and naming of articles) was also extensively discussed 10+ years ago (see for example Wikipedia:WikiProject History of Poland/Periodization), so we should not make changes such as splitting an article into pieces and turning it into a redirect without a discussion. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 04:45, 12 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed, last 7 days or so. It's good to start now. Sometimes simple is better. Such as "... that the 10th century Polish–Veletian War ended up with the destruction of Veletians and Polish conquest of Pomerania?" Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 12:59, 6 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
They weren't destroyed. Idk if I did mixed something up in article? Their army in the war got destoryed, and Mieszko conquered much of Western Pomerania. But the most eastern territories of Veneti still were under their controll and they still were active (they even had another wars with Poland and Germany later on). Placenames

You deleted several relevant foreign placenames from the lead of Polish cities. Regarding historic German placenames there is a well established consensus as defined by the "Gdansk vote" ("For Gdansk and other locations that share a history between Germany and Poland, the first reference of one name in an article should also include a reference to other names")

Even without the Gdansk vote relevant foreign names wouldn't be placed just in a footnote (WP:PLACENAME). Please do not continue these edits. HerkusMonte (talk) 06:56, 12 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't remove anything. In fact, if you would check, in many cases,I have expanded those lists. I put them in the notes with template:efn, simply because they were creating too long lists to display together. I'm fully supportive of putting foreign names with articles names. Artemis Andromeda (talk) 09:30, 12 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I still don't see a reason to ignore WP:PLACENAME and the Gdansk vote. We do not hide these names in footnotes. It's rather contradictory to "expand those lists" and giving "too long lists" as a rationale to remove these lists you just created from the lead. Please respect the long established WP:consensus. HerkusMonte (talk) 12:01, 12 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
If you haven't noticed, lists done with efn template are gaining popularity and are better, as they don't clutter the opening sentence of the article with tens of names, for example in Kosciuszko Uprising. Also, I'm not "hiding" anything, they are all easily accessible and visible in the notes. You just got to click on the [a].Artemis Andromeda (talk) 13:02, 12 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I haven't noticed a gaining popularity of the efn template for placenames. Currently WP:PLACENAME represents the established consensus of how to deal with relevant foreign placenames. You might take your proposal to the respective talk page, for now you should just stop deleting relevant foreign names from the lead section. HerkusMonte (talk) 16:21, 12 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

3O

You continued to ignore WP:PLACENAME ([1], [2], [3], [4], [5]). I've asked for a WP:3O. HerkusMonte (talk) 09:33, 19 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Response to third opinion request:
I am responding to a third opinion request for this page. I have made no previous edits on User:Artemis Andromeda and have no known association with the editors involved in this discussion. The third opinion process is informal and I have no special powers or authority apart from being a fresh pair of eyes.
HerkusMonte is correct that WP:PLACENAME, specifically item 2 in this section, is the controlling guideline here. Foreign language names used in at least 10% of the English sources should be listed in the lead, in parentheses, in alphabetical order. Artemis Andromeda, you are right to reject characterizing your work as 'deletion', but my opinion is that placement in a footnote is unarguably a reduction in prominence when compared to placement in the lead. If you feel that the benefits of reducing clutter outweigh the loss of prominence afforded to important information, the best next move is to build consensus for this change in guideline at WT:PLACENAME. Examples of articles that use efn for the foreign place name lists will be helpful, especially examples created by other editors.
I have this user talk page on my watchlist for at least the next 90 days and will be happy to add clarifications or respond to questions. Please ping me if this discussion proceeds at a different page. Thank you for seeking out a third opinion. pl:Wojna polsko-niemiecka (1002–1005)

I was thinking about translating this, but it is has no footnotes on pl wiki, and I ham having trouble finding sources. Maybe you'd have better luck? Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 08:32, 4 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Piotrus:. I might have some time to help on the weekend. However there's one problem that I have noticed some time ago but didn't have time to talk about it anywhere. Basically, while Polish Wiki treats German-Polish Wars between 1002 and 1018 as 3 different conflicts (pl:Wojna polsko-niemiecka (1002–1005), pl:Wojna polsko-niemiecka (1007–1013), pl:Wojna polsko-niemiecka (1015–1018)), English Wiki have one article titled German–Polish War treating it as one big conflict. I think it should be checked is those conflicts are separate, or not, and if they are indeed separate events, we should break English article into 3 parts.

And about finding more sources, 2 of my tricks when it comes to Medival-Ages-related artucles are: 1. Look into Wikipedia articles about the rulers of the states that took part in the war (so Boleslaw the Brave, the king of Poland, and whoever was the Holly Roman Emperor empiror at the time + smaller HRE dukes who participated in the war). The articles should mention the war and maybe have some sources you can use. 2. When it comes to Polish leaders you can check poczet.com and zamki.name. Both websites list chronologically every events from lifes of Polish rulers, which indlude wars and international politics. Also, zamki.com always quote their sources, so you can write entire artiles just basing on that. Also, they sometimes have articles about wars.

Question

When creating catgories, such as Category:States and territories disestablished in 1264, you need to ensure you also create all the catgories of which they are a part. Do you plan to do so, or leave it to other editors to clean up after you? UnitedStatesian (talk) 13:14, 12 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Well ok, I will start creating those as well. I didn't know. But, can I also ask you to stop deleting categories like "States and territories [dis]established in X", and removing them from articles.Artemis Andromeda (talk) 13:19, 12 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, and will do, but there have been extensive discussions at WP:CFD as to whether specific-year precision is an appropriate categorization for events happening prior to the Renaissance, with most of those discussions concluding "No". UnitedStatesian (talk) 13:30, 12 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Żywiec Zdrój requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company, corporation or organization that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. PamD 16:07, 27 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Mirza Bohdanowicz's Tatar Banner

Notice

The article Mirza Bohdanowicz's Tatar Banner has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

The coverage (references, external links, etc.) does not seem sufficient to justify this article passing Wikipedia:General notability guideline. WP:BEFORE did not reveal any significant coverage on Gnews, Gbooks or Gscholar. If you disagree and deprod this, please explain how it meets them on the talk page here in the form of "This article meets criteria A and B because..." and ping me back through WP:ECHO or by leaving a note at User talk:Piotrus. Thank you.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Artemis Andromeda, I was just checking through a list of DYK nominations that had never been transcluded on the Nominations page, and ran across your nomination from the beginning of October. Oddly, despite the fact that you never transcluded the nomination on the DYK Nominations page, Piotrus somehow found the nomination and reviewed it; they also passed it. However, since the nomination had never been transcluded, it was never seen by potential promoters, and it still has not appeared on the Wikipedia main page in the DYK section.

Are you still interested in this nomination continuing? If so, I'll be happy to make sure it is placed on the Approved page and made available to prep set builders. Please let me know how you'd like me to proceed. Many thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 02:31, 15 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Stop edit warring

Stop icon

Your recent editing history shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See the bold, revert, discuss cycle for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you do not violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. ([6] [7] [8] [9]) I propose that you revert yourself and discuss the issue on the article's talk page. --Matthiaspaul (talk) 17:33, 29 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Wingcloth

Hi, Artemis Andromeda. I found this article on WP:NPP and it is causing me some difficulty. The word "wingcloth" does not exist in the English language or English heraldry, and because the heraldic charge you're describing also does not exist in English heraldry, there is no obvious term for it to which I could move the article under a new name, unless it is one of the German terms "Kleestengel" or "Brustspange", because those will be less unfamiliar to English heraldry (see WP:COMMONNAME). I don't think that "Przepaska" would be accepted as an alternative title. When it is necessary to describe it in English in European coats of arms, it is usually just called a crescent. So as an independent article it is problematic. The actual content is useful and well-referenced, so for now I have added the greater part of it into the article Eagle (heraldry), but "Wingcloth", because it is not a real word, is of no use even as a redirect. I think that is the best that can be done. Ingratis (talk) 03:17, 26 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

For now, I've moved the article to Przepaska to move it out of harm's way, although as said I don't think that's a permanent solution, and put Wingcloth up for deletion as a non-existent word. The formal notification is below, to tick the boxes. All best, Ingratis (talk) 06:07, 26 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Flag of Earth requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion discussion, at Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Flag_of_Earth. When a page has substantially identical content to that of a page deleted after a discussion, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

Bohemian Land moved to draftspace

An article you recently created, Bohemian Land, is not suitable as written to remain published. First, the translation of the title does not seem to pan out, as Země Česká translates as Czech land (country). And the sources support Země Česká, so this article might have to be retitled. Second, this appears to be rough translation, so it is difficult to follow, so I could not make corrections to it. What is called Země Česká seems to correspond to the former area called Bohemia, but not sure what the relationship is. Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). Hello, Artemis Andromeda

Welcome to Wikipedia! I edit here too, under the username EchidnaLives, and I thank you for your contributions.

I wanted to let you know, however, that I've proposed an article that you started, Flag of Elbląg, for deletion because it meets one or more of our deletion criteria, and I don't think that it is suitable for inclusion in the encyclopedia. The particular issue can be found in the notice that is now visible at the top of the article.

If you wish to contest the deletion:

  1. Edit the page
  2. Remove the text that looks like this: {{proposed deletion/dated...}}
  3. Click the Publish changes button.

If you object to the article's deletion, please remember to explain why you think the article should be kept on the article's talk page and improve the page to address the issues raised in the deletion notice. Otherwise, it may be deleted later by other means.

If you have any questions, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|EchidnaLives}}. And remember to sign your reply with ~~~~. Thanks!

Śródmieście Południowe moved to draftspace

An article you recently created, Śródmieście Południowe, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more in-depth coverage about the subject itself, with citations from reliable, independent sources in order to show it meets WP:GNG. It should have at least three, to be safe, and currently does not have any. The Obido source is not a reliable source. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. Coat of Arms of Poland

Hello. You recently made a change to the coat of arms of poland page in which you removed an image of the King of Poland in wearing, amongst other things, a heraldic tabard. I don’t necessarily disagree with this change, however, you didn’t leave any edit summary, so I’m mildly interested in why you thought this change was necessary. notadev (talk) 04:20, 30 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @NotADev:. I did it because the template isn't to showcase old Middle Ages painting. It is to show .svg file depicting current coat of arms. It should be only for that. And any images there should depict current coat of arms and its variants. Artemis Andromeda (talk) 12:10, 30 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I suppose so, yeah. I didn’t add that image to infobox, however seeing as various other coats of arms pages display a heralds tabard on the infobox it seemed to myself as a useful depiction to include on the infobox, but since such doesn’t exist for Poland it doesn’t really make sense. Nonetheless thank you for taking the time to answer. notadev (talk) 16:44, 30 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Question about your use of color

Hello!

I know this is from long ago, but I noticed that on this revision from December 2022, you added some quotes. However, I noticed that they had some weird CSS styling that made some of the text gray. (<span style{{=}}"color:gray">)

I removed it just now, but can I ask what that was about? Was it intentional? --QuickQuokka [talkcontribs] 19:03, 6 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @QuickQuokka:. I'm sorry, I'm not even sure where exactly in the text would that be (it was a big edit long time ago). But, if you mean the tables; I didn't make them. I used/modified existing tables. I'm not really good in CSS coding and can't make things like that myself. Ad such, I don't really know why it was there. Artemis Andromeda (talk) 19:50, 6 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Artemis Andromeda: I don't mean the tables, I mean some of the quotes. See the revision where I removed it to understand what I'm talking about. --QuickQuokka [talkcontribs] 20:14, 6 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@QuickQuokka: Ah, I see now. It was done by somebody else in article Wikipedia:Wikipedia logos. I coppied it to the main article. The grey was there to indicate that that portion of text that was visible in the logo (portion of the text was obscured/morthed beyond readability). Artemis Andromeda (talk) 20:24, 6 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Artemis Andromeda: Oh, that makes sense! But I think it should be clearly indicated in the article somehow. --QuickQuokka [talkcontribs] 20:29, 6 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I agree. Maybe we could just say that the coloured part indicates the readable portion of the quote, present in the logo Artemis Andromeda (talk) 20:58, 6 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, please could you take more care when moving pages from long-term titles. I've reverted the following moves, as they dont' appear to be supported by naming conventions or the sources.

You and I had a discussion at my talk page after the fact about a rail station article. I looked at another one ( Wolin railway station ) during NPP which is a similar situation. IMO clearly doesn't meet notability for a stand alone article, but has good content worth keeping somewhere. IMO its content and images would make a good section or table entry in a larger article. I'm happy to just skip past this one and leave it for another NPP'er to review, but IMO it would be cool / would there be a way to get this as a section or table entry in a broader article? Sincerely, North8000 (talk) 18:01, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@North8000: Hi :) I'm really sorry, I didn't check my messages for a long time, and missed your message. I'm sorry for that. Idk, really where it could be put. One idea I have is to mahbe make article like "List of railway stations in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship" and list all the railway stations there. Artemis Andromeda (talk) 02:30, 2 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Artemis Andromeda: That sounds like a great idea. It could also have a table entries or sections with info on individual stations where available/ developed and just list items where not. Sincerely, North8000 (talk) 14:54, 2 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@North8000:
I think it should only have a table list. Sections for each station would be just too messy. Just a table that could list location, picture, serviced railway lines, maybe date of opening. Artemis Andromeda (talk) 16:50, 2 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Artemis Andromeda: That sounds ideal. Maybe 1 column for "notes" or misc text? North8000 (talk) 17:13, 2 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Please respond with your opinion on the talk page topic I created. It doesn’t matter what the Polish Wikipedia has as her lead section. This is the English Wikipedia and you’re supposed to follow the conventions outlined in MOS:CONTEXTBIO. She is notable for her Polish works, therefore her lead section should only say Polish. Please do not move articles

Like you did at Samodzielny Pododdział Antyterrorystyczny Policji, moving this to a name that you seem to have invented yourself. Coupled with the message above from @Liz, I strongly suggest you use WP:RM and avoid moving articles by yourself, at least until your understanding of Wikipedia's naming conventions and moving system improves. Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 09:17, 21 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Firstly, I didn't "invent that name". It was already in the article. Secondly, all goverment organixations have English names on Wikipedia and that was the only exeption. Also, here's some examples of it being used https://dspace.uni.lodz.pl/xmlui/bitstream/handle/11089/26116/551-578-stepinski.pdf%3Fsequence%3D1%26isAllowed%3Dy&ved=2ahUKEwjt9taZraCDAxXBQfEDHVgxCTEQFnoECB8QAQ&usg=AOvVaw0YigLlKX0PDnaRKO8l2AoZ https://www.researchgate.net/figure/Levels-of-anti-terrorism-system-in-Poland_fig1_370281423&ved=2ahUKEwjt9taZraCDAxXBQfEDHVgxCTEQFnoECCMQAQ&usg=AOvVaw0Bsbij03tjwXQ66GobBE6d

Secondly, about the situation with Liz. I already explained and argumented all my reasoning behind name chance in that situation, and the message is only there because other editior engaged in edit war over that name. And thirdly, I do understand Wikipedia naming conventions.

SincerelyArtemis Andromeda (talk) 10:54, 21 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Then please stop unitalerly moving pages and use the WP:RM process. Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 06:05, 31 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ditto.
Your recent move of "Generał brygady" to a metaphrastic "General of a brigade", for example, suggests an inadequate grasp of English-language military-rank terminology.
Terms should make sense. If the respective English and Polish rank titles were equivalent, would you speak of "General of a Brigade Billy Mitchell"?

Autopatrolled granted

Hi Artemis Andromeda, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the autopatrolled user right to your account. This means that pages you create will automatically be marked as 'reviewed', and no longer appear in the new pages feed. Autopatrolled is assigned to prolific creators of articles, where those articles do not require further review, and may have been requested on your behalf by someone else. It doesn't affect how you edit; it is used only to manage the workload of new page patrollers.

Since the articles you create will no longer be systematically reviewed by other editors, it is important that you maintain the high standard you have achieved so far in all your future creations. Please also try to remember to add relevant WikiProject templates, stub tags, categories, and incoming links to them, if you aren't already in the habit; user scripts such as Rater and StubSorter can help with this. As you have already shown that you have a strong grasp of Wikipedia's core content policies, you might also consider volunteering to become a new page patroller yourself, helping to uphold the project's standards and encourage other good faith article writers.

Feel free to leave me a message if you have any questions. Happy editing! – Joe (talk) 11:41, 12 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

P.S.: this is a long talk page! You might consider setting up talk page archiving. Up to you though. – Joe (talk) 11:41, 12 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

A question and a NB!

Hello Artemis 1) I saw you created an article on Ben (Armenian letter). There you dated it "since 405/406". However, as to my knowledge, official/best-of-human-knowledge/commonly agreed date is that all original 36 letters of Mesropian alphabet were "created" in 405. => Why put "/406"? Is there some scientific puzzle or uncertainty? If not, I will correct it. 2) The "Welcome" section of this page suggests going to talk to ANOTHER user, HiLo48, twice. Something is not right=) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gregory108 (talkcontribs) 03:47, 9 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation to join New pages patrol

Hello Artemis Andromeda!

  • The New Pages Patrol is currently struggling to keep up with the influx of new articles needing review. We could use a few extra hands to help.

Hi. All those article names are wrong unless you have a source with official translation of the name. I don't think you will find one. They should be in original. Would you call the article about Zielona Góra - Green Mountain or Stara Wieś - Old Village? This kind of OR regarding names are unaceptable. Plase verify those articles. Emptywords (talk) 11:28, 17 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Emptywords: Wow. "Hi, thank you for your hard work in translating artilces nobody ever bothered to work on. Btw, I have some concerns about the nameing conventions" would be nice.Artemis Andromeda (talk) 14:05, 17 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
About Sluzew and Imielin, I agree, I was not sure if English names should be ised or not. I did that to stay consistent with other "Old" neighbourhoods from Warsaw that have articles on Wikipedia, such as Old Mokotów and Old Town, Warsaw. I changed them back to "Stary". But I belive "North Ursynów" should stay as the name actually is used in English sources. For example here on official Warsaw turist website (link 1), or in news such as here (link 2). Sincerely, Artemis Andromeda (talk) 14:12, 17 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Haha :) As you mentioned that ... you translated those articles in large chunks from polish, but you never marked them as "translated" - this is another issue to think about :) I don't think tourist information portals even "official" are doing the work here and are enough. Probably Old Town is the only one used properly. Cheers, Emptywords (talk) 19:39, 17 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Emptywords and Emptywords: I miss spoke. Go to Polish articles and compare them with mine. I put mine own reserch, found reliable sources, and greatly expanded whatever is on Polish Wiki. They are stubs in comparison to my work.Artemis Andromeda (talk) 13:04, 18 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    • Might be, might be not, like Wingert Lake which is I think is a total translation, even without proper knowledge like "wysoczyzna"" means "placed on a low flat hill" :D :) Anyway, keep the good work, I definietly see improvements in your work even if it's, in my own opinion, not perfect :) Emptywords (talk) 13:21, 18 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not invent names while moving articles. Please use WP:RM

You have been asked to be careful with your moves many times:

  • User_talk:Artemis_Andromeda#Streets_and_squares by User:Necrothesp, you did not reply?
  • User_talk:Artemis_Andromeda#September_2023 by User:Paris1127, you did not reply?
  • User_talk:Artemis_Andromeda#Page_moves by User:Amakuru, you did not reply?
  • User_talk:Artemis_Andromeda#Michler's_Palace - warning about move warring from User:Liz
  • User_talk:Artemis_Andromeda#Please_do_not_move_articles by me and User:Nihil novi
  • User_talk:Artemis_Andromeda#Old_Służew,_Old_Imielin,_North_Ursynów_etc. - concern expressed by User:Emptywords

Just yesterday you moved Krakowskie Przedmieście (a Polish street) to an English name that you invented that was never used outside Wikipedia. You did not use an edit summary, nor did you explain things on talk.

Reviewing your recent moves, I noticed many other problems:

There are others. Sure, you do good moves too but too many of your moves require cleanup. Please use WP:RM for anything controversial, and for other moves, use edit summaries or post explanation on talk, preferably explaining why the name is most common in English, per WP:COMMONNAME. @Piotrus
Hi. I guess I will start by apologising for causing problems and controversies. When editing Wikipedia, I just get carried away and just try to correct things whrere I think I see something that should be changed. I acknowledge that maybe sometimes I am not right in my assessments, and that I should explain and consult my moves. And I will try to do that from now on. I will be honest, I belive I have been operating on the Wikipedia:Be bold principle too much.
And trying to explain some of the points brought up here:
- Szczecin Polish Theatre, from my observation, in English translations the names usually don't carry over "w Szczecinie"/"in Szczecin" [or insert any other city] from Polish names, but ruther the name of the city gets included as an adjective in the name of the building.
- Vistula Railway. I was not sure which version should I had used since I saw both translations existed. I ended up going with Railroad at the time since I felt it was closer to the original. But I think Railway is equally good translation, and I thank you for correcting this one.
- Pulawians/Natolins, I have explained my reasoning in the discussion related to the original move. I felt at the time that having one article have Polish and other English name was inconsistent and that adding English name would improve consistency between the two. At the time I was not sure if "Pulawians" would be a correct name, and did not wanted to be accused to creating new words since I doubt its a very popular demonym.
- Ministry of Labour. I changed it to British spelling since articles related to Poland are supposed to be written in British English, and also all other Polish government related organizations on Wikipedia and official websites have British English spelling in their names
- Vistula Narrow-gauge Railway. Per article name narrow-gauge railway itself. narrow-gauge is in this case a single word, not two words.
- List of Chinese diaspora. At the time, I felt that the term "overseas" was not correctly descriptive, as the rest of Asia would not be considered "overseas". But now I know that it comes from the term Overseas Chinese, although I still feel its not entirely descriptive for the same reasons. But my stance on this had changed, and I wouldn't argue if someone were to revert it or propose yet another more descriptive name.
- I probably could go back in explaining other decisions I have made in the past, but I doubt there's a point now since they were already either discussed, revered or accepted. But I'm happy to discuss any specific cases if you wish to bring up any.
Anyway. I'm really sorry, and I will try to be better in the future. Though, I still stand behind some of the decisions I had made. Artemis Andromeda (talk) 02:24, 3 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for explaining. There is no need to be sorry - your contrbutions are generally very good. But it is indeed good to realize limits to being bold, and it is best to explain things (when I move pages I generally try to provie an edit summary, and often, a comment on talk, and unless I am pretty sure I am right I still do RMs often). I recommend that for all articles I mentioned and you address above, you go to their talk pages and copy your rationale there, and consider doing so for your other older moves as well. Finally, as a rule of thumb, I strongly recommend checking for name popularity in GScholar/GBooks and posting analysis on talk.
