Hello, i addressed your concern by adding new references to the above mentioned page. Could you as I advise when it will be live and if I can do anything to Accelerate so? Thanks Libertyofcourse (talk) 22:08, 17 August 2014 (UTC) libertyofcourse

Hi Noq,

I'm agree with dont make a edit war, but I think you must to know that "tomatina.es" and "tomatinatickets.com" are fraudulent websites, that they aren't offical sponsors or official Tomatina website.

I think that the tips I want to share in wikipedia are interesting for people who wants to go at La Tomatina. http://www.tomatofestivalspain.com/tips/

I would like you to reconsider this link to include the tips, and you will inform you about the web and tomatinatickets tomatina.es because they are a fraud, please.

Thank you and Sorry for the incovenience

Redirect of the "Naimy Hackett page"

I made the page just so people can have can some information on who they are, not because they are notable or not. May I proceed to Un-redirect? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Citadel48 (talkcontribs) 23:08, 31 August 2014 (UTC)

Please read the notability guidelines. To quote from there, "Note that members of notable bands are redirected to the band's article, not given individual articles, unless they have demonstrated individual notability for activity independent of the band, such as solo releases." noq (talk) 06:53, 1 September 2014 (UTC)

But couldn't their role (being the lyricist), be considered menially notable? They wrote the lyrics too virtually every all of their works. Thank you.Citadel48 (talk) 17:48, 1 September 2014 (UTC)

Please read the notability guidelines. They require significant coverage in WP:reliable sources about notability outside of the band - you have not shown that, so there is no reason for a stand alone article. noq (talk) 17:52, 1 September 2014 (UTC)

Much of the information on them (the bands she was in, her roles in them, etc), was gotten from other Wikipedia pages. Could I possibly cite them as reference?Citadel48 (talk) 03:02, 2 September 2014 (UTC)

Wikipedia or any wiki are not considered WP:reliable sources. noq (talk) 10:56, 3 September 2014 (UTC)

Persistance and impatience

Are you being deliberately uncivil?

I am sure you think your behaviour at Paralia is just fine, because "you are in the right" or similar. But you don't have all the information (because i am still in the process of filling in the article), so you cannot know.

Please don't behave like this with other people. It is rude and unnecessary.

And before you consider posting your counterargument (i'm sure you have one), just consider that there were multiple ways you could have achieved the same outcome without annoying someone. The simplest would have been to post a message on my talk page.

Oncenawhile (talk) 18:21, 21 September 2014 (UTC)

I;m sorry you feel that way. However, you yourself could have actually responded to the original prod rather than just dismissing the concerns raised. The give me time argument does not wash as you did nothing to address the concerns when removing the prod - which gives 7 days to address the issue before it is considered by an independent administrator. Please can you explain why it needs a separate article to say "Palaria is the name the Greeks used to describe the coast of Palestine"? You have done nothing to answer that. noq (talk) 18:48, 21 September 2014 (UTC)
Apology accepted (i'm not sure it was an apology but i'll take it anyway.)
This whole discussion is about time and trust. I wrote in my edit comment "I will add description and context to make it encyclopaedic". You write "The give me time argument does not wash as you did nothing to address the concerns when removing the prod". Clearly you weren't prepared to wait for me to answer.
I didn't know the "7 days to address" point. You could have explained that on my talk page before pushing this in to AfD. An AfD is just a waste of everyone's time.
I am continuing to build out the article - i have made some more edits and will continue to do so.
Oncenawhile (talk) 19:06, 21 September 2014 (UTC)
The prod notice clearly states that it will not be deleted for 7 days. Once you removed the prod without actually addressing the problem I did some searching before making the AFD nomination, it was not just a knee jerk reaction. I have seen the additions you made but they just seem more appropriate to the history section of the Palestine article than an article named for what one group of people called part of Palestine in the past. In future when creating new articles it would be better to have enough to make it an encyclopaedia entry when you create it, you can use a sandbox to create the article initially before moving it into the main article space, that way you may escape new page patrollers objecting to an inadequate article. BTW, you still have not answered the actual question about why the article should exist. noq (talk) 19:19, 21 September 2014 (UTC)
To answer your last point, look at the map now at the top of the article. All the regions named in the map have wikipedia articles. But the grey area does not. Lots of important history happened in the Paralia region during the hellenic / roman period, but it was missing from wikipedia. Oncenawhile (talk) 20:04, 21 September 2014 (UTC)

Tourism in Israel

Hi Noq, while I agree with you in principle, I find it curious that gojerusalem.com which is not really any different is allowed to remain. I don't work for Eggedtours, but to me as an Israeli, the Egged brand is synonymous with transportation in Israel as well as tours/tourism (I always recommend them to friends etc. who come visiting from abroad). GoJerusalem.com is a website I've never heard of, despite having lived in Jerusalem for years and having visited countless times. Sorry this got long, but I don't get the rationale for your edit if gojerusalem.com is "kosher". Please explain the difference to me. Cheers! Avielfahl (talk) 16:45, 6 October 2014 (UTC)

I did not see the gojerusalem.com link and have now removed it. Lots of Wiki articles have inappropriate links and just because one already exists does not mean adding another is a good idea. noq (talk) 17:03, 6 October 2014 (UTC)
Fair enough, I apologize for my mistake. I'm still new to this and I thought it was useful. I will not try to re-add it and I will think more carefully next time.Avielfahl (talk) 06:21, 7 October 2014 (UTC)

You should calm down and read WP:BRD. Several editors have reverted your edit not just me. You have also been blocked from editing for a period for repeatedly putting the same edit in. As the edit summaries have explained, you are adding unsupported claims and unnecessary detail. The appropriate place to discuss this is the articles talk page, were you can try to get a consensus for your version - rather than trying to steamroller it through which is not working. Wikipedia is about WP:verifiability not Truth. noq (talk) 10:23, 3 October 2014 (UTC)

I gave this person another temporary block, although I'm not sure that was the right call. Hopefully, they will justify my giving them another chance. I'm watching their page and the article, but please note that I've warned them that if they return to this behavior their next block may come without warning. If you need to reach out to any other admin because stuff is happening that isn't noticed, please feel free to point that warning out. You have not followed me at all - you have petulantly added sarcastic comments to the article that do not contribute to an encyclopaedia article in any way. You are still pushing your own unsourced view with the addition of saying its not true - it does not belong there. It is precisely that behaviour that got you blocked and despite several people trying to explain to you why there is a problem you still do not understand and persist in claiming it has something to do with Muslims trying to stop you spreading the "truth". noq (talk) 09:32, 11 October 2014 (UTC)

Kate Bush birthplace

Hi Noq,

I see you reverted my change regarding the birthplace of Kate Bush. I agree that the register of her birth shows Sidcup, but that is the registration district, NOT her place of birth. She was born in Bexleyheath Maternity Hospital, as several biographies confirm; Bexleyheath is a small town in Kent (by postcode) or London (by local government), and it is a few miles from Sidcup, which is a different town also in Kent/London. Howevr, Sidcup is where there births registration district was based at the time of Kate's birth. Neverthless, geographically it is incorrect to say she was born in Sidcup, she was born in Bexleyheath. I live in the area myself ad know this to be the case. Regards, Neilinely — Preceding unsigned comment added by Neilinely (talkcontribs) 12:16, 1 December 2014 (UTC)

We need a WP:reliable source that says Bexleyheath and that needs to be cited in the article - until that is there, the change cannot stand. noq (talk) 12:31, 1 December 2014 (UTC)

Here are just a few, including Wikipedia! I say again, the registration district in which someone's birth is registered is NOT the same as their place of birth - it is just the place where the birth is registered.

Wikipedia is not a WP:reliable source. towntalk, angelfire and gaffa.org are not reliable either. The Telegraph and Argus describes here birthplace as Welling. This conflicts with the Telegraph article. noq (talk) 15:11, 1 December 2014 (UTC)

Your edit of my Rugby World Cup contribution

Why are you insisting on having these exaggerated audience figures from the RWC, which come from non-independent sources? These figures are not trustworthy, they come from studies ordered by the IRB. Deloitte was paid by the IRB. You say your reasons for removing the edit is the absence of sources, but I quoted an article from a reputable NZ newspaper which makes a very good case for it. You cut the source reference. You also removed the 97 percent figure despite the fact that it comes from an IRB report.SD3107E (talk) 15:02, 2 December 2014 (UTC)

Hinduism

Hello, some time ago a change I had added to this topic was reverted, suggesting that it seemed irrelevant. I had thought the article was appropriate because in it Bhaktivinoda explains that the various schools that make up 'Hinduism' are actually simply phases of the soul's evolution toward the ultimate perfection of their relationship with God. He points out that these phases are important and essential as the soul advances toward perfection. He not only reveals that these various generic paths are delineated in the Vedic scriptures, but that they are also found throughout the world in various religious schools.

If anywhere, this is perhaps the only treatise that actually gives meaning to the word 'Hinduism', which is of course not any one religion, but simply a derogatory word used by ancient foreigners on the other side of the Sindhu River - i.e. they referred to all the people on the other side of the river as 'Sindhus' which became Hindus due to the lack of an SSSS sound in their languages. Thus the various religions of India became lumped together for no real rational reason. One might logically divide them by scripture: i.e. the Vedic traditions, the Buddhists, the Sikhs, the Jains. The Vedic schools that evolved are essentially just different understandings or stages of understandings of the Vedic scriptures which each school hold as Absolute.

The reference added to Wiki by the Thakura simply showed that these various schools and paths are required, but essentially they are all ONE, like paths or gears on the way to the perfection of existence. This is a very important message for mankind, if they can ever get beyond their own favorite idioms in their own favorite books, get beyond to the essence who stands behind each school, that most famous One we all call God.

Official information with an actual reference rather than vague "its on his facebook page" is WP:verifiable. As already said, just because he does not like the name and wants to remove it does not make it true. El Matadero (The Slaughter Yard)

C'mon Noq; are you seriously saying you don't think El Matadero lacks notability? Allow for the fact that articles on Wikipedia which are first drafts that are going to be elaborated. The Slaughter Yard, by Esteban Eceheverría, is the first Argentine short story, and by far his most important work. Do you really want to go head to head on this?Ttocserp 00:26, 18 November 2015 (UTC)

Do you have a source for that claim? If so, why did you not put it in the original article? noq (talk) 00:30, 18 November 2015 (UTC)
Because I was still in the stage of editing it when you deleted it -- without even giving me an early deletion warning. Ttocserp 08:04, 18 November 2015 (UTC)
I would add that I have a list of peer-reviewed articles about El Matadero literally as long as your arm. Editing these is going to take days. For now, see this: https://www.atanet.org/publications/beacons_10_pages/page_119.pdf The article you deleted for 'lack of notability' is probably the most-studied item in Latin American literature. Please read this and reflect on your arbitrary, high-handed and North-American-centric conduct. Ttocserp 08:15, 18 November 2015 (UTC)
When creating an article it is best to spend your initial efforts in ensuring that it makes a claim to notability and a reference is supplied to back that up. This is much more important than giving a description of the plot - this can be added later. The article has not been deleted - everything is still there in the history - but has been redirected to the author until such time as it meets the notability criteria. Please feel free to make changes that show why it is notable. noq (talk) 09:53, 18 November 2015 (UTC)
You redirected for 'lack of notability' to an article that asserts (correctly) that Esteban Echeverría was one of Latin America's most important Romantic authors and that Echeverría's renown as a writer rests largely on his powerful short story El matadero. Assuming good faith on your part, the only residual explanation must be that you acted so quickly that you didn't have time to reflect. On this I see you have past form.Ttocserp 11:57, 18 November 2015 (UTC)
Which is already covered at Esteban Echeverría so what is it that makes the story notable in itself? Just because the author is notable does not make everything they wrote separately notable. New page patrolling requires judgement calls that do not always get accepted by the creators of those articles. Too many people create articles that do not indicate why the subject of the article is notable and then get upset when this is pointed out either by a deletion notice or a redirect. Rather than telling me I did not have time to reflect, please reflect on what you could have put in the article to show notability - of the story itself - and why it needs a standalone article over what is in the authors page. You seem to be taking a lot of time questioning my actions without considering what you could have done to protect against that. noq (talk) 13:10, 18 November 2015 (UTC)
How very true: just because the author is notable doesn't make everything he wrote notable. But when the notability of the author is expressly stated to depend on his story El Matadero (please read the bold typeface again), it's kind of a no-brainer to say El Matadero itself is notable, don't you now agree? If you don;'t, why didn't you delete the article Esteban Echeverría for lack of notability? Is it possible that the barbaric nature of the story disturbed you, hence prompted a hasty judgement? Just wondering. Ttocserp 15:52, 18 November 2015 (UTC)

This game is made by a stablished developer on the game market (Shin'en Multimedia) and it's been marketed by Nintendo in the past months, like on his apearance on this year E3, on PAX and in the last Nintendo Direct. So I think the article should be keeped. Regards, -- Carlosgalvani (talk) 18:23, 26 November 2015 (UTC)

Hi Carlosgalvani, unfortunately, a few youtube marketing videos are not enough to show WP:notability. Neither is who developed it - they have their own article. You need to show significant coverage in independent WP:reliable sources about the game - not just marketing material. noq (talk) 19:01, 26 November 2015 (UTC)

About Tornadoes of 1977

I think the article should be kept. It isn't the same exact source, plus it is important information for the Severe Weather WikiProject, so it should be kept. HurricaneGonzalo (talk) 00:28, 27 November 2015 (UTC)

why should it be kept? Why is it important information? noq (talk) 00:29, 27 November 2015 (UTC)
I've got another queation. Why is the Tornadoes of 1980 not deleted. It is exactly the same set up and style as that one. It is important because it adds more information about the 1977 tornadoes. Like 2015, people want to know more about past tornadoes too. HurricaneGonzalo (talk) 00:32, 27 November 2015 (UTC)
I don't know - probably no one has actually actively reviewed it. WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS is not a reason for keeping a page. What is the WP:notability of the page? Please say why it is important rathe rather than just repeating it is. The claim about most tornadoes being in the US is suspect in itself as it is based on a reply to query on a single article. noq (talk) 00:45, 27 November 2015 (UTC)
I've at least found several more things to improve the article, even though 1977 wasn't active. HurricaneGonzalo (talk) 00:51, 27 November 2015 (UTC)

AfC Article Declined

You have declined to me this and you said that there is no significant coverage in independent WP:reliable sources to establish WP:notability. Since this is an eSports article and I've already stated that they are an 'all-star' team and that they won a spot on the podium for 5 premier LANs, I don't know how I could change it. Any response is helpful, Dat GuyWiki (talk) 16:10, 27 November 2015 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Sniptracker page

Hi Noq, Can you explain why Sniptracker page was deleted from Wikipedia? I added it so it would be displayed together with other feed readers on Comparison of feed aggregators. Why should this one be any less important than others already listed? Due to missing page, however the entry was now already removed from the comparison. Mitja (talk) 23:05, 13 January 2016 (UTC)

Please read the reason already given on your talk page. Also read WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS and WP:COI. There may well be inappropriate pages on that comparison page that have not been removed yet - that is not a reason to add more. noq (talk) 09:15, 14 January 2016 (UTC)
Thank you for your answer and helping me explaing this. I now get these and I get that I am COI. However I do believe that Wikipedia users might find my service interesting, although it is not noticable to the wikipedia community yet. And if there is a comparison page, why are there products marked discontinued, but you cannot add a product that is fresh on the market. Isn't the point of comparison pages to compare all that is available? I do not need a special page about Sniptracker, but I do believe it should be at least on comparison list. Thanks again for taking the time, as I know you are all doing a great job editing the Wikipedia. If you still disagree, I accept it and won't bother anymore. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mitjap (talkcontribs) 21:19, 17 January 2016 (UTC)

Justice S Ashok edit

I saw your comment where you mentioned that I have not placed reliable reference. Kindly see the news article and read the last but 4 paragraph.

http://www.sify.com/news/katju-s-corrupt-judge-who-was-justice-ashok-kumar-news-columns-ohyjPmhebcjad.html

He was a Christian who changed his religion as per convenience to take a seat reserved for a Dalit. Even if you disregard the news source as reliable, look at his name. A Hindu name and his own website says he is a Christian.

I feel your comments were not fair. Parivartan (talk) 15:24, 6 March 2016 (UTC)

dubious claim discussion on Danish Sheikh page

Hey Noq, Danish is an academic faculty at the NorthPoint Center of Learning, a leading advertising and business school of India. Here is a link, which I came across on Danish Sheikh's official website, where the business school promotes his lectures on their official Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/NorthpointIndia/posts/998059410206216:0 Do you think this will count as a citation to support this statement?

Pashu143 (talk) 12:28, 9 May 2016 (UTC)

Facebook is not considered a WP:reliable source. Do they have an official website? Does it list the members of faculty? Why does it not have a wikipedia page of its own if it is a leading business school? Based on the 50 google hits I doubt it would qualify. noq (talk) 12:34, 9 May 2016 (UTC)

I see your point, Noq. Thank you for the explanation.

Pashu143 (talk) 15:06, 9 May 2016 (UTC)

Hey there

Why is that particular reference needed? The fact that you seem intent in adding it in and it was written by someone with the same name as you makes it appear that it is trying to push the reference rather than support the claims in the article. What is missing from the existing references that this adds? noq (talk) 10:52, 11 May 2016 (UTC)

Regarding the article about Naama Arad

Hey Noq,

I only started working on the Naama Arad page. I understand your reasons for putting it on a delete warning - it is still lacking in many ways. However, I ask that you give me the rest of the week to improve it, and then review it again and decide. If it still falls short I will support the removal of it myself as well, but I just want to give it a fair chance first. Is this OK with you? (Can I remove the delete nomination for now?)

Thanks, Aviya — Preceding unsigned comment added by AviyaC (talkcontribs) 16:26, 15 May 2016 (UTC) The prod notice gives 7 days to address the problem. There is no immediate danger of it being deleted. Can you find evidence of notability with sources talking about her - not just listings from places showing her work. Articles in newspapers talking about her work would help. While you could remove the prod notice immediately I would recommend that you get the article in order before removing it as other deletion processes exist that may not provide the same amount of time. noq (talk) 16:32, 15 May 2016 (UTC)

I suspect that the IP is likely the same user as the creator, editing while logged out- as they are aware that the creator of the page cannot remove CSD's. 331dot (talk) 10:20, 22 May 2016 (UTC)

@User:331dot. I thought the same. the IP created a similar draft page that the N-Shade creator has also edited. noq (talk) 10:22, 22 May 2016 (UTC)

Regarding your CSD tag on T.D.P.

Hi Noq. Your CSD tag on T.D.P. has been removed by the original creator, and I agree with the removal. The article passes notability guideline WP:NALBUM as the album has been charted in the US. For more information, please read WP:NALBUM. Regards, Optakeover(U)(T)(C) 13:19, 22 May 2016 (UTC)

Inappropriate edit reversions

You recently undid a commit of mine, adding an entry to the list of websocket implementations on the unfounded assertion that the entry I added is not notable. Beast is as notable as several other entries in the list, used in at least one large open-source and in the Boost incubator - which means it may soon end up in Boost.

Your reversion of the commit is, at best, petty, and I have reverted it. Nbougalis (talk) 15:55, 6 June 2016 (UTC)

@User:Nbougalis, Please WP:assume good faith. As the software has not been shown to be notable, removing it was perfectly justifiable. Per WP:BRD instead of reverting my reversion, the correct procedure would be to discuss it on the articles talk page. noq (talk) 16:57, 6 June 2016 (UTC)
@User:noq, thanks for the response here; no bad faith was assumed, but if that's how I came across, I apologize. Your additional comments on the talk page of the "Beast C++ Library" article clarify the issue(s) significantly. Nbougalis (talk) 18:30, 7 June 2016 (UTC)

Amway article - section about India

Hi Noq, could you please explain your recent reversion of the Amway article on its Talk page? I cannot see how my edit was somehow "inappropriate" when it contained important information that explicitely states the reasons why MLM companies (including Amway) were accused of running a pyramid scheme. I have also provided sources about the upcoming legislation that will prevent such cases in the future because it will remove the ambiguity (again sourced). I find it inappropriate to hold back this important information from the readers as it would make the whole paragraph biased and unbalanced. Please read the references I have provided and reconsider my arguments. I have not removed anything, I have added a sourced text which has a tight connection to Amway (and Amway is explicitely mentioned in all articles I have provided). Rather than removing the whole sourced text, would you care to reword it so that it (in your opinion) would be appropriate? Best regards, --Historik75 (talk) 14:49, 19 August 2016 (UTC)

Rationale for reversion has been provided on the article's Talk page, which is where discussion should continue. No need to resort to special pleading on the user's Talk page. Rhode Island Red (talk) 15:53, 20 August 2016 (UTC)
No rationale was given by Noq except that the edit was (in his opinion) "unnecessary". Therefore, I politely asked him (not you) to explain his opinion, i.e. why it was unnecessary, to find out whether he considered all the relevant details and sources I have provided. Please let him answer and do not interrupt our conversation trying to answer for him.--Historik75 (talk) 14:55, 21 August 2016 (UTC)

And how does your need match with Wikipedias guidelines? Wikipedia is not a personal web host - there are lots of those available and this is not one. noq (talk) 20:26, 29 August 2016 (UTC)

Is it something 'non-existent' that I am publishing here? You can verify the youtube link in the citing references that its a real film that I am mentioning here and talking about. The film is soon going to be a part of UC university's film archive and many others. Do I only have to be a Hollywood Oscar award winning filmmaker and actor to have myself a page over here? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Worldwideshortfilms (talkcontribs) 20:29, 29 August 2016 (UTC)

@User:Worldwideshortfilms, You do not need to win an oscar but you do need to meet WP:NFILM which you are not doing. You are also failing to understand that Wikipedia is not a web host for you to put whatever you like. You need read and understand the links that have been pointed out to you both here and on your talk page. Hi Noq, I'm a little upset and confused as all my hard work seems to have been removed with the wave of a hand. I have tried to do it properly. it is an important album for the reason stated (first appearance of the song heartbreaker)

could you please work with me to enable me to put this article in?

That is not enough to base a whole article on. It is mentioned in Heartbreaker (Pat Benatar song) although that is not referenced it is all that is warranted. For an article to exist it needs to meet WP:NALBUM and Queen of Fools does not. noq (talk) 07:33, 3 September 2016 (UTC)

Come vote (again)

Hi. I am sorry to bother you, and I really hate having to stoop to this level. But since they did, so am I. They even told me to do it. So here I am (I don't know how to 'ping' someone).

I noticed that you took part in one of the numerous times that Side to Side was voted on or redirected. Well, a 3 day old voting decision isn't enough for them. They are back, and wanting a page and have a vote going on. They have Side to Side (song) running and a name change request was sent back to the talk page for a vote.

If you care to voice your opinion (again), feel free to click. Your previous decision does not count towards the current vote. This one is primarily about changing the name, but I feel that since it was currently voted to redirect, that the primary voting reason should be about whether to have a page or not. Either way, voices need to be heard (again).

@RochelleAngyal As well as disclosing your COI, the advise also warns against creating or editing articles directly about the company or its products and encourages you to use the article talk pages to highlight errors in the associated article. The links to the WP:conflict of interest guidelines should be read to ensure you comply with wiki policies. noq (talk) 17:18, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

@Noq Noted. However, I feel that someone directly related to the product should be editing to ensure that information is properly presented and accurate to the product. Obviously, no one knows a product better than the people that created it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by RochelleAngyal (talkcontribs) 17:24, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

@RochelleAngyal@RochelleAngyal You may feel that but the Wikipedia community generally does not. You can use your own website to put across things without using Wikipedia for that. If there are things wrong, then by all means highlight them on the talk page to but be very careful about directly editing the pages. noq (talk) 17:26, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

Seetler

I think Noq, is a very strong editor in terms of both editorial integrity and knowledge. However, he is difficult to work with especially with people of dissenting viewpoints. He assents that only his viewpoints are correct, despite convincing evidence for the latter. Sometimes, I feel that he is more urgent to win an argument than to find the correct resolution. I think he is a great and stellar editor for Wikipedia, but I feel that he is s difficult person to work with, especially if you think differently than he does.

@User:Seetler. Unfortunately your viewpoint does not coincide with the consensus on wikipedia. You need to show WP:notability with WP:significant coverage in WP:reliable sources. This is for WP:verifiability as your assertions alone to notability are not sufficient. You keep repeating the same assertions without addressing the issues raised and trying to put the onus on me to prove a negative. noq (talk) 12:09, 28 September 2016 (UTC)
@User:Noq. Exactly, you keep on repeating the same thing, but I and most of Wikipedia would agree that I have shown notability, but you refuse to acknowledge it. You are basically saying what you believe it true is correct. It's a situation of she said, he said, and you just assume that if you repeat the same item over and over again, you can make yourself correct. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Seetler (talkcontribs) 13:24, 28 September 2016 (UTC)
@User:Seetler - you have asserted that it has notability. - Please show me a WP:reliable source that backs up your assertion - so far you have failed to do so, and saying that most of wikipedia agrees with you on that is just not true. noq (talk) 17:07, 28 September 2016 (UTC)

User group: New Page Reviewr

Hello Noq.

Based on the patrols you made of new pages during a qualifying period in 2016, your account has been added to the "New page reviewers" user group, allowing you to review new pages and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or in some cases, tag them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed.

New page reviewing is a vital function for policing the quality of the encylopedia, if you have not already done so, you must read the new tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the various deletion criteria. If you need more help or wish to discuss the process, please join or start a thread at page reviewer talk.

  • Be nice to new users - they are often not aware of doing anything wrong.
  • You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted - be formal and polite in your approach to them too, even if they are not.
  • Don't review a page if you are not sure what to do. Just leave it for another reviewer.

New Page Review - newsletter

Hello Noq,
Breaking the back of the backlog
We now have 819 New Page Reviewers! Most of you requested the user right to be able to do something about the huge backlog. Now it's time for action.
Mid July to 01 Oct 2016

If each reviewer does only 10 reviews a day over five days, the backlog will be down to zero and the daily input can then be processed by each reviewer doing only 2 or 3 reviews a day - that's about 5 minutes work!
Let's get that over and done with in time to relax for the holidays.

Second set of eyes

Not only are New Page Reviewers the guardians of quality of new articles, they are also in a position to ensure that pages are being correctly tagged for deletion and maintenance and that new authors are not being bitten. This is an important feature of your work. Read about it at the new Monitoring the system section in the tutorial.

Getting the tools we need - 2016 WMF Wishlist Survey: Please vote

With some tweaks to their look, and some additional features, Page Curation and New Pages Feed could easily be the best tools for patrollers and reviewers. We've listed most of what what we need at the 2016 WMF Wishlist Survey. Voting starts on 28 November - please turn out to make our bid the Foundation's top priority. Please help also by improving or commenting on our Wishlist entry at the Community Wishlist Survey. Many other important user suggestions are listed at at Page Curation.

Re: Proposed deletion of The Ambler

Hi. I just received the message that you marked The Ambler for deletion. My apologies if it doesn't meet the criteria for inclusion.

I thought that as other local papers such as the Northumberland Gazette (albeit a more widely circulated paper) have been included, and the fact that the paper is mentioned on the Amble article, it was worth inclusion. If there is good reason to delete it, fair enough. I'll leave the decision in the hands of the community.--Jcvamp (talk) 13:40, 20 December 2016 (UTC)

Dup link

So why did you restore the duplicate link that just redirects to Roy Amara anyway? Hardly helpful, please take care when you revert and dont undo good work. We dont require two links that appear diferent but go to the same article, either on this article or in any other article, and I ahd deliberately done this as a separate edit in order to avoid any potential issues with two edits. Your justification for removing refs was also pretty weak, I suggest you take that to talk, we dont assume that another article is ref'd, that isnt how reliable sources work. ♫ RichardWeiss talk contribs 09:57, 26 December 2016 (UTC)

@User:RichardWeiss Do we need to add a reference every time we refer to something that is covered in more detail in another article? List articles are links to other existing articles and so long as the claim is backed up in that article there is no need to duplicate the reference. Do you intend to go through all the list articles and add references to each entry? This would be a big job just the article in question never mind the thousands of other lists that exist on Wikipedia. With a duplicate link, removing the second link would have been sufficient to do that. Anyway I don't care enough about it to argue for a change back, it just seems to be unnecessary work. noq (talk) 10:06, 26 December 2016 (UTC)

Deletions

Hi, there is actually ongoing storm of stupid vandalisms coming from one of polish facebook groups (bunch of kids), targeting mainly Daniel Chima Chukwu, I suggest locking the article. Articles Polska Liga the best and Torpeda Rozęcin were created also in addition to vandalisation of main page (Daniel Chima). All those are just trash to delete. Cheers --Kasabian (talk) 16:26, 29 December 2016 (UTC)

Re: Proposed deletion

Hello Noq, I have added missing information and sources for helping to clarify content on this organization, could you please reconsider this item marked for deletion? And please alert as to any other evident issues, thanks for comments or suggestions, relatively new user....J.seoul (talk) 13:16, 27 December 2016 (UTC)

@J.seoul, I see the article has been deleted now. Please read the links at the top of your talk page in the Welcome section. These will guide you in what is needed for a Wikipedia article. In particular for this article, please read the notability guidelines for companies to see what is needed for an article about a company. noq (talk) 14:47, 27 December 2016 (UTC)
@Noq, I appreciate your suggestion. I've requested userfication (?) so as simply to retrieve for working on it or else otherwise altering etc. to meet Wikipedia standards in the future. Would you be able to help with this? I think I've requested in possible places but not certain. Not getting any answer.... Thanks regardless, J.seoul (talk) 16:51, 30 December 2016 (UTC)

Heloo Noq, I have added information and sources for this videogame, could you please reconsider this item marked for deletion? I´am speaking at the moment with Biodroid Entertainment to give me some feedbake about a possible "on hold" situation and not cancelled game. This game is very well known in the portuguese comunity. Psychedelic2004 (talk) 19:44, 15 January 2017 (UTC)

@Psychedelic2004, You need to provide references that show it meets the notability guidelines. You say it is well known but is it being written about in WP:reliable sources? If not, it does not belong here. The proposed deletion template gives 7 days to improve the article to escape deletion. noq (talk) 00:02, 16 January 2017 (UTC)
@noq, i´ve just added some more references and i will be waiting for answer from Biodroid Entertainment Psychedelic2004 (talk) 03:35, 16 January 2017 (UTC)
@Psychedelic2004, Still not enough. You need WP:significant coverage in WP:reliable sources. The linkedin sources are all not reliable, the n4g.com just refers to the dualshockers one so only a single source. The Dualshockers one reads like a publicity interview and without further coverage would not be enough on its own. Soundcloud is not significant coverage and neither are the eurogamer.pt snippets about the soundtrack and what reads like a press release. noq (talk) 17:44, 16 January 2017 (UTC)

New Page Review - newsletter No.2

Hello Noq,
A HUGE backlog

We now have 819 New Page Reviewers!
Most of us requested the user right at PERM, expressing a wish to be able to do something about the huge backlog, but the chart on the right does not demonstrate any changes to the pre-user-right levels of October.

Hitting 17,000 soon

The backlog is still steadily growing at a rate of 150 a day or 4,650 a month. Only 20 reviews a day by each reviewer over the next few days would bring the backlog down to a managable level and the daily input can then be processed by each reviewer doing only 2 or 3 reviews a day - that's about 5 minutes work!
It didn't work in time to relax for the Xmas/New Year holidays. Let's see if we can achieve our goal before Easter, otherwise by Thanksgiving it will be closer to 70,000.

Second set of eyes

Remember that we are the only guardians of quality of new articles, we alone have to ensure that pages are being correctly tagged by non-Reviewer patrollers and that new authors are not being bitten.

Abuse

This is even more important and extra vigilance is required considering Orangemoody, and

  1. this very recent case of paid advertising by a Reviewer resulting in a community ban.
  2. this case in January of paid advertising by a Reviewer, also resulting in a community ban.
  3. This Reviewer is indefinitely blocked for sockpuppetry.

Coordinator election

Kudpung is stepping down after 6 years as unofficial coordinator of New Page Patrolling/Reviewing. There is enough work for two people and two coords are now required. Details are at NPR Coordinators; nominate someone or nominate yourself. Date for the actual suffrage will be published later.

Still a MASSIVE backlog

We now have 819 New Page Reviewers but despite numerous appeals for help, the backlog has NOT been significantly reduced.
If you asked for the New Page Reviewer right, please consider investing a bit of time - every little helps preventing spam and trash entering the mainspace and Google when the 'NO_INDEX' tags expire.

Hi Noq and thank you for your feedback. I wanted to update you that I am still adding content to the page and will continue updating it over the next several days, I have also added new citations. I was hoping you could tell me what I need to add to the page so it will not be removed and what could be done to satisfy your requirement. Thank you for keeping Wikipedia a credible entity. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rachel123s (talkcontribs) 11:31, 16 March 2017 (UTC)

@user:Rachel123s, please read WP:NCORP for details of notability criteria for companies. The references you currently have do not provide WP:significant coverage of the company itself but at most only reference they were involved in a project - unless you can find some WP:reliable sources that talk directly about the company rather than covering its customers then the article will unfortunately be removed. My own searches on google are not finding anything significant. noq (talk) 11:38, 16 March 2017 (UTC)

New Page Review - Newsletter No.4

Hello Noq,

Since rolling out the right in November, just 6 months ago, we now have 819 reviewers, but the backlog is still mysteriously growing fast. If every reviewer did just 55 reviews, the 22,000 backlog would be gone, in a flash, schwoop, just like that!

But do remember: Rather than speed, quality and depth of patrolling and the use of correct CSD criteria are essential to good reviewing. Do not over-tag. Make use of the message feature to let the creator know about your maintenance tags. See the tutorial again HERE. Get help HERE.

All users who registered an account before Saturday, 28 October 2017, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Wednesday, 1 November 2017 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. New Page Reviewer Newsletter

Hello Noq, thank you for your efforts reviewing new pages!

Backlog update:

  • The new page backlog is currently at 12713 pages. Please consider reviewing even just a few pages each day! If everyone helps out, it will really put a dent in the backlog.
  • Currently the backlog stretches back to March and some pages in the backlog have passed the 90 day Google index point. Please consider reviewing some of them!

Outreach and Invitations:

  • If you know other editors with a good understanding of Wikipedia policy, invite them to join NPP by dropping the invitation template on their talk page with: {{subst:NPR invite}}. Adding more qualified reviewers will help with keeping the backlog manageable.

New Year New Page Review Drive

  • A backlog drive is planned for the start of the year, beginning on January 1st and running until the end of the month. Unique prizes will be given in tiers for both the total number of reviews made, as well as the longest 'streak' maintained.
  • Note: quality reviewing is extremely important, please do not sacrifice quality for quantity.

General project update:

  • ACTRIAL has resulted in a significant increase in the quality of new submissions, with noticeably fewer CSD, PROD, and BLPPROD candidates in the new page feed. However, the majority of the backlog still dates back to before ACTRIAL started, so consider reviewing articles from the middle or back of the backlog.
  • The NPP Browser can help you quickly find articles with topics that you prefer to review from within the backlog.

New Years new page backlog drive

Hello Noq, thank you for your efforts reviewing new pages!

Announcing the NPP New Year Backlog Drive!

We have done amazing work so far in December to reduce the New Pages Feed backlog by over 3000 articles! Now is the time to capitalise on our momentum and help eliminate the backlog!

The backlog drive will begin on January 1st and run until January 29th. Prize tiers and other info can be found HERE.

Awards will be given in tiers in two categories:

  • The total number of reviews completed for the month.
  • The minimum weekly total maintained for all four weeks of the backlog drive.

NOTE: It is extremely important that we focus on quality reviewing. Despite our goal of reducing the backlog as much as possible, please do not rush while reviewing.

The NPP backlog at the end of the drive with the number of unreviewed articles by creation date. Red is older than 90 days, orange is between 90 and 30 days old, and green is younger than 30 days.

Backlog update:

  • The new page backlog is currently at 3819 unreviewed articles, with a further 6660 unreviewed redirects.
  • We are very close to eliminating the backlog completely; please help by reviewing a few extra articles each day!

New Year Backlog Drive results:

  • We made massive progress during the recent four weeks of the NPP Backlog Drive, during which the backlog reduced by nearly six thousand articles and the length of the backlog by almost 3 months!

General project update:

  • ACTRIAL will end it's initial phase on the 14th of March. Our goal is to reduce the backlog significantly below the 90 day index point by the 14th of March. Please consider helping with this goal by reviewing a few additional pages a day.
  • Reviewing redirects is an important and necessary part of New Page Patrol. Please read the guideline on appropriate redirects for advice on reviewing redirects. Inappropriate redirects can be re-targeted or nominated for deletion at RfD.

You wrote "Pita is not Pide." I agree but you left what can be summarized as "Pide is Pita" and deleted my addition that can be summarized as "Pide is also Pizza". Pide is pizza in Turkey, and in much of Turkic areas in towards Central Asia (Ref. the theory that Marco Polo brought it from those areas). It also seems to be accepted in English to mean the same, just check the references. I urge you to restore it, and consider to refrain from deletions in future unless you can prove the text wrong. Hello Noq, thank you for your work reviewing New Pages!

ACTRIAL:

  • ACTRIAL's six month experiment restricting new page creation to (auto)confirmed users ended on 14 March. As expected, a greatly increased number of unsuitable articles and candidates for deletion are showing up in the feed again, and the backlog has since increased already by ~30%. Please consider reviewing a few extra articles each day.

Paid editing

  • Now that ACTRIAL is inoperative pending discussion, please be sure to look for tell-tale signs of undisclosed paid editing. Contact the creator if appropriate, and submit the issue to WP:COIN if necessary.

Subject-specific notability guidelines

Nominate competent users for Autopatrolled

  • While patrolling articles, if you find an editor that is particularly competent at creating quality new articles, and that user has created more than 25 articles (rather than stubs), consider nominating them for the 'Autopatrolled' user right HERE.

News

  • The next issue Wikipedia's newspaper The Signpost has now been published after a long delay. There are some articles in it, including ACTRIAL wrap-up that will be of special interest to New Page Reviewers. Don't hesitate to contribute to the comments sections. The Signpost is one of the best ways to stay up date with news and new developments - please consider subscribing to it. All editors of Wikipedia and associated projects are welcome to submit articles on any topic for consideration by the The Signpost's editorial team for the next issue.

NPR Newsletter No.11 25 May 2018

Hello Noq, thank you for your work reviewing New Pages!

ACTRIAL:

  • WP:ACREQ has been implemented. The flow at the feed has dropped back to the levels during the trial. However, the backlog is on the rise again so please consider reviewing a few extra articles each day; a backlog approaching 5,000 is still far too high. An effort is also needed to ensure that older unsuitable older pages at the back of the queue do not get automatically indexed for Google.

Deletion tags

  • Do bear in mind that articles in the feed showing the trash can icon may have been tagged by inexperienced or non NPR rights holders. They require your further verification.

Backlog drive:

  • A backlog drive will take place from 10 through 20 June. Check out our talk page at WT:NPR for more details. NOTE: It is extremely important that we focus on quality reviewing. Despite our goal of reducing the backlog as much as possible, please do not rush while reviewing.

Editathons

  • There will be a large increase in the number of editathons in June. Please be gentle with new pages that obviously come from good faith participants, especially articles from developing economies and ones about female subjects. Consider using the 'move to draft' tool rather than bluntly tagging articles that may have potential but which cannot yet reside in mainspace.

Paid editing - new policy

  • Now that ACTRIAL is ACREQ, please be sure to look for tell-tale signs of undisclosed paid editing. Contact the creator if appropriate, and submit the issue to WP:COIN if necessary. There is a new global WMF policy that requires paid editors to connect to their adverts.

Subject-specific notability guidelines

  • The box at the right contains each of the subject-specific notability guidelines, please review any that are relevant BEFORE nominating an article for deletion.
  • Reviewers are requested to familiarise themselves with the new version of the notability guidelines for organisations and companies.

Not English

  • A common issue: Pages not in English or poor, unattributed machine translations should not reside in main space even if they are stubs. Please ensure you are familiar with WP:NPPNE. Check in Google for the language and content, tag as required, then move to draft if they do have potential.

News

  • Development is underway by the WMF on upgrades to the New Pages Feed, in particular ORES features that will help to identify COPYVIOs, and more granular options for selecting articles to review.
  • The next issue of The Signpost has been published. The newspaper is one of the best ways to stay up to date with news and new developments. between our newsletters.

Those who review 100, 250, 500, or 1000 pages will also receive tiered awards: 100 review coin, 250 review coin, 500 review coin, 1000 review certificate.
  • Please do not be hasty, take your time and fully review each page. It is extremely important that we focus on quality reviewing.

Hello, Editorialadvisoryaccount, welcome to Wikipedia and thank you for your contributions. Your editing pattern indicates that you may be using multiple accounts or coordinating editing with people outside Wikipedia, such as Jasleen Ahluwalia (talk · contribs). Our policy on multiple accounts usually does not allow this, and users who use multiple accounts may be blocked from editing. If you operate multiple accounts directly or with the help of another person, please disclose these connections. You appear to have started editing immediately after some socks of this account were blocked. So far, you have mostly removed speedy tags on an article created by one of those socks. Please do not do so again or you may fall foul of the 3 revert rule and get blocked yourself. noq (talk) 09:38, 14 July 2018 (UTC)Thanks for patrolling new editers

I Editorialadvisoryaccount am a genuine account and I am not in anyway linked to any other user, I am happy to verify this in any manner that wikipedia wishes.

Further-more I do understand the need for you to patrol new editors but in this case threatening a new users with what is a baseless accusation is not helpful and works against encouraging new users like me to start editing on wikipedia - something that this platform needs and requires to ensure the unbiased integrity of wikipedia

This Article shows significant media coverage and is in my view it should not be deleted, I would like the opportunity to develop this article further. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Editorialadvisoryaccount (talkcontribs) 11:26, 14 July 2018 (UTC)

Please read the deletion review that is linked in the deletion notice. This has already been discussed and found to not be significant coverage. instead of repeatedly removing the speedy delete notice - which just attracts an administrators attention to it so they can decide whether it qualifies for speedy deletion - you can put your concerns on the articles talk page so the reviewing administrator can see them and take them into account. As explained on your own talk page, your editing history starts immediately after the user who recreated the article was blocked and continues in the same manner as them - this does make it look like you are the other editor trying to avoid the sanctions put in place. noq (talk) 11:56, 14 July 2018 (UTC)

Chart of the New Pages Patrol backlog for the past 6 months. (Purge)

Hello Noq, thank you for your work reviewing New Pages!

June backlog drive

Overall the June backlog drive was a success, reducing the last 3,000 or so to below 500. However, as expected, 90% of the patrolling was done by less than 10% of reviewers.
Since the drive closed, the backlog has begun to rise sharply again and is back up to nearly 1,400 already. Please help reduce this total and keep it from raising further by reviewing some articles each day.

New technology, new rules
  • New features are shortly going to be added to the Special:NewPagesFeed which include a list of drafts for review, OTRS flags for COPYVIO, and more granular filter preferences. More details can be found at this page.
  • Probationary permissions: Now that PERM has been configured to allow expiry dates to all minor user rights, new NPR flag holders may sometimes be limited in the first instance to 6 months during which their work will be assessed for both quality and quantity of their reviews. This will allow admins to accord the right in borderline cases rather than make a flat out rejection.
  • Current reviewers who have had the flag for longer than 6 months but have not used the permissions since they were granted will have the flag removed, but may still request to have it granted again in the future, subject to the same probationary period, if they wish to become an active reviewer.
Editathons
  • Editathons will continue through August. Please be gentle with new pages that obviously come from good faith participants, especially articles from developing economies and ones about female subjects. Consider using the 'move to draft' tool rather than bluntly tagging articles that may have potential but which cannot yet reside in mainspace.
The Signpost
  • The next issue of the monthly magazine will be out soon. The newspaper is an excellent way to stay up to date with news and new developments between our newsletters. If you have special messages to be published, or if you would like to submit an article (one about NPR perhaps?), don't hesitate to contact the editorial team here.

Speedy deletion declined: Old Georgians' Hockey Club

Hello Noq. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Old Georgians' Hockey Club, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Playing in a notable league indicates importance/significance (WP:CCSI#TEAM). Thank you. SoWhy 13:57, 31 July 2018 (UTC)

NPR Newsletter No.13 18 September 2018

Hello Noq, thank you for your work reviewing New Pages!

The New Page Feed currently has 2700 unreviewed articles, up from just 500 at the start of July. For a while we were falling behind by an average of about 40 articles per day, but we have stabilised more recently. Please review some articles from the back of the queue if you can (Sort by: 'Oldest' at Special:NewPagesFeed), as we are very close to having articles older than one month.

Project news
As part of this project, the feed will have some larger updates to functionality next month. Specifically, ORES predictions will be built in, which will automatically flag articles for potential issues such as vandalism or spam. Copyright violation detection will also be added to the new page feed. See the projects's talk page for more info.
Other
Moving to Draft and Page Mover
  • Some unsuitable new articles can be best reviewed by moving them to the draft space, but reviewers need to do this carefully and sparingly. It is most useful for topics that look like they might have promise, but where the article as written would be unlikely to survive AfD. If the article can be easily fixed, or if the only issue is a lack of sourcing that is easily accessible, tagging or adding sources yourself is preferable. If sources do not appear to be available and the topic does not appear to be notable, tagging for deletion is preferable (PROD/AfD/CSD as appropriate). See additional guidance at WP:DRAFTIFY.
  • If the user moves the draft back to mainspace, or recreates it in mainspace, please do not re-draftify the article (although swapping it to maintain the page history may be advisable in the case of copy-paste moves). AfC is optional except for editors with a clear conflict of interest.
  • Articles that have been created in contravention of our paid-editing-requirements or written from a blatant NPOV perspective, or by authors with a clear COI might also be draftified at discretion.
  • The best tool for draftification is User:Evad37/MoveToDraft.js(info). Kindly adapt the text in the dialogue-pop-up as necessary (the default can also be changed like this). Note that if you do not have the Page Mover userright, the redirect from main will be automatically tagged as CSD R2, but in some cases it might be better to make this a redirect to a different page instead.
  • The Page Mover userright can be useful for New Page Reviewers; occasionally page swapping is needed during NPR activities, and it helps avoid excessive R2 nominations which must be processed by admins. Note that the Page Mover userright has higher requirements than the NPR userright, and is generally given to users active at Requested Moves. Only reviewers who are very experienced and are also very active reviewers are likely to be granted it solely for NPP activities.
List of other useful scripts for New Page Reviewing

  • Twinkle provides a lot of the same functionality as the page curation tools, and some reviewers prefer to use the Twinkle tools for some/all tasks. It can be activated simply in the gadgets section of 'preferences'. There are also a lot of options available at the Twinkle preferences panel after you install the gadget.
  • In terms of other gadgets for NPR, HotCat is worth turning on. It allows you to easily add, remove, and change categories on a page, with name suggestions.
  • MoreMenu also adds a bunch of very useful links for diagnosing and fixing page issues.
  • User:Equazcion/ScriptInstaller.js(info): Installing scripts doesn't have to be complicated. Go to your common.js and copy importScript( 'User:Equazcion/ScriptInstaller.js' ); into an empty line, now you can install all other scripts with the click of a button from the script page! (Note you need to be at the ".js" page for the script for the install button to appear, not the information page)
  • User:TheJosh/Scripts/NewPagePatrol.js(info): Creates a scrolling new pages list at the left side of the page. You can change the number of pages shown by adding the following to the next line on your common.js page (immediately after the line importing this script): npp_num_pages=20; (Recommended 20, but you can use any number from 1 to 50).
  • User:Primefac/revdel.js(info): Is requesting revdel complicated and time consuming? This script helps simplify the process. Just have the Copyvio source URL and go to the history page and collect your diff IDs and you can drop them into the script Popups and it will create a revdel request for you.
  • User:Lourdes/PageCuration.js(info): Creates a "Page Curation" link to Special:NewPagesFeed up near your sandbox link.
  • User:Writ Keeper/Scripts/deletionFinder.js: Creates links next to the title of each page which show up if it has been previously deleted or nominated for deletion.
  • User:Evad37/rater.js(info): A fantastic tool for adding WikiProject templates to article talk pages. If you add: rater_autostartNamespaces = 0; to the next line on your common.js, the prompt will pop up automatically if a page has no Wikiproject templates on the talk page (note: this can be a bit annoying if you review redirects or dab pages commonly).

Chart of the New Pages Patrol backlog for the past 6 months.

Hello Noq, thank you for your work reviewing New Pages!

Backlog

As of 21 October 2018, there are 3650 unreviewed articles and the backlog now stretches back 51 days.

Community Wishlist Proposal
Project updates
  • ORES predictions are now built-in to the feed. These automatically predict the class of an article as well as whether it may be spam, vandalism, or an attack page, and can be filtered by these criteria now allowing reviewers to better target articles that they prefer to review.
  • There are now tools being tested to automatically detect copyright violations in the feed. This detector may not be accurate all the time, though, so it shouldn't be relied on 100% and will only start working on new revisions to pages, not older pages in the backlog.

Speedy deletion declined: McColl Center for Art + Innovation

Hello Noq. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of McColl Center for Art + Innovation, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Subject might be important/significant (see also Google News/Books hits for this subject) / use WP:PROD or WP:AFD instead to allow other editors to participate in this decision. Thank you. SoWhy 15:42, 30 October 2018 (UTC)

Jamshedpur edit

I just wanna explain my edit.I belong to Jamshedpur and since childhood I have known about my city..And Jamshedji's spelling..All the local books published here about him and In fact the TISCO company also uses the same spelling as I do..So I just wanna Know on what grounds you reverted my edit.. Thank you. Hrishika10 (talk) 19:12, 6 November 2018 (UTC)

@User:Hrishika10 I reverted to the spelling used in the linked article Jamsetji Tata - There are lots of different spellings for words originating in languages that use non western alphabets, if this is incorrect as you claim and not just a spelling variation, then you can raise the issue on Talk:Jamsetji Tata and request a move of that article to your preferred spelling. Until then, we should retain the current spelling. noq (talk) 19:20, 6 November 2018 (UTC)

Hello Noq,

Community Wishlist Survey – NPP needs you – Vote NOW
  • Community Wishlist Voting takes place 16 to 30 November for the Page Curation and New Pages Feed improvements, and other software requests. The NPP community is hoping for a good turnout in support of the requests to Santa for the tools we need. This is very important as we have been asking the Foundation for these upgrades for 4 years.
If this proposal does not make it into the top ten, it is likely that the tools will be given no support at all for the foreseeable future. So please put in a vote today.
We are counting on significant support not only from our own ranks, but from everyone who is concerned with maintaining a Wikipedia that is free of vandalism, promotion, flagrant financial exploitation and other pollution.
With all 650 reviewers voting for these urgently needed improvements, our requests would be unlikely to fail. See also The Signpost Special report: 'NPP: This could be heaven or this could be hell for new users – and for the reviewers', and if you are not sure what the wish list is all about, take a sneak peek at an article in this month's upcoming issue of The Signpost which unfortunately due to staff holidays and an impending US holiday will probably not be published until after voting has closed.

ArbCom 2018 election voter message

Hello, Noq. Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 3 December. All users who registered an account before Sunday, 28 October 2018, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Thursday, 1 November 2018 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2018 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 19 November 2018 (UTC)

NPR Newsletter No.16 15 December 2018

Hello Noq,

Reviewer of the Year

This year's award for the Reviewer of the Year goes to Onel5969. Around on Wikipedia since 2011, their staggering number of 26,554 reviews over the past twelve months makes them, together with an additional total of 275,285 edits, one of Wikipedia's most prolific users.

Thanks are also extended for their work to JTtheOG (15,059 reviews), Boleyn (12,760 reviews), Cwmhiraeth (9,001 reviews), Semmendinger (8,440 reviews), PRehse (8,092 reviews), Arthistorian1977 (5,306 reviews), Abishe (4,153 reviews), Barkeep49 (4,016 reviews), and Elmidae (3,615 reviews).
Cwmhiraeth, Semmendinger, Barkeep49, and Elmidae have been New Page Reviewers for less than a year — Barkeep49 for only seven months, while Boleyn, with an edit count of 250,000 since she joined Wikipedia in 2008, has been a bastion of New Page Patrol for many years.

See also the list of top 100 reviewers.

Less good news, and an appeal for some help

The backlog is now approaching 5,000, and still rising. There are around 640 holders of the NPR flag, most of whom appear to be inactive. The 10% of the reviewers who do 90% of the work could do with some support especially as some of them are now taking a well deserved break.

Really good news - NPR wins the Community Wishlist Survey 2019

At #1 position, the Community Wishlist poll closed on 3 December with a resounding success for NPP, reminding the WMF and the volunteer communities just how critical NPP is to maintaining a clean encyclopedia and the need for improved tools to do it. A big 'thank you' to everyone who supported the NPP proposals. See the results.

Training video

Due to a number of changes having been made to the feed since this three-minute video was created, we have been asked by the WMF for feedback on the video with a view to getting it brought up to date to reflect the new features of the system. Please leave your comments here, particularly mentioning how helpful you find it for new reviewers.

Draft:Adeel_Abbas

Hello Noq, You have placed notability, primary sources and third-party tags on the article & yu asked to discus about it. I have a question, all the references posted on the article are from verified national newspapers and not from self created blogs, if all the links are from wiki verified newspapers of Pakistan, (But in Urdu Language) how to make improvement in it? Also removed biography category from the aarticle

The references provided all seem to be by him and not about him. Articles he wrote himself cannot be used to establish WP:notability. noq (talk) 10:34, 14 February 2019 (UTC)

dear sir you are right but kindly pay some attention to the following details: All the links are from top news channels of pakistan with their links on wikipedia pages. its truth that articles are written by the subject but are not published automatically by the subject but manually published by the independent news pages after filtering and verification. But i think you have not seen the pages where the news pages mentioned about the subject. The introduction by the newspaper is not posted by the subject himself but posted about him by the news channel. for example reference no 1 link: http://blogs.dunyanews.tv/author/adeel-abbas/ is created by the website manually & it says about the subject with picture: "ADEEL ABBAS Adeel Abbas, is a social media activist and blogger from Bhakkar, Punjab. He works for the youth education and career using social media. He can be reached [email protected]"

than reference no 3 link: https://urdu.arynews.tv/blogs/archives/author/adeel-abbas is a page created by the news & its in urdu which says: عدیل عباس پنجاب کے شہر بھکر سے تعلق رکھنے والے عدیل عباس بلاگر اور سوشل میڈیا ایکٹیوسٹ ہیں اور ایک پیج کے ذریعے نوکریوں کے حصول میں مدد فراہم کرتے ہیں Its translation is " Adeel Abbas From city of bhakkar in punjab is a blogger and social media activist & helps youth in career related issues"

Than reference number 7 link is https://www.express.pk/story/901649/ which gives the complete details about the subject By 2nd Biggest Pakistan's News paper & channel it is also in urdu it says "عدیل عباس بلاگر سوشل میڈیا ایکٹیوسٹ ہیں اور نوجوانوں کی تعلیم اور کیریئر کے معاملات پر کام کرتے ہیں۔ ان کا تعلق پنجاب کے شہر بھکر سے ہے۔ ان سے ای میل ایڈریس [email protected] پر رابطہ کیا جاسکتا ہے۔" Its translation is " Adeel abbas is a blogger and social media activist & works for youth education and career using social media. He is from city of Bhakkar in Punjab & you can contact him at email id:

Sir are these mentions from Top News Channels Of Pakistan Are Useless for a person? Is this data not Verifiyable by wikipedia & if a person has written on top media in pakistan with valid links & references does it all not counts for him? I hope you will consider these things. Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by 43.245.9.27 (talk) 16:31, 14 February 2019 (UTC)

The by-lines that just give one line about the author of a piece are not WP:significant coverage. Please read WP:ANYBIO for notability criteria. Just because someone has written some articles does not make them notable.noq (talk) 16:38, 14 February 2019 (UTC)

Ok Sorry I Thought i will have to remove it from here. Sorry About That & I Am Working On Furnishing New References.I Hope You Will Take Care Of It & Will Guide mE Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by 43.245.9.27 (talk) 16:40, 18 February 2019 (UTC)

Response to Proposed deletion of List of Nepalese poets

Hello, noq

Thank you for your concern about the article List of Nepalese poets.

Yes, this article seems a duplicate of List of Nepali poets at this moment, but it is not.

Because, List of Nepali poets consists of poets who write in Nepali language who may either be of Nepali nationality or any other.

Where as, List of Nepalese poets consists of poets of Nepali nationality who write in any of 123 languages spoken and/or written in Nepal or, even in other languages (eg. English). However, it have to be extended yet.

In conclusion, List of Nepali poets refers to - poets who write in Nepali language For example; Rajendra Bhandari, Kamala Sankrityayan, Iman Xin Chemjong are Nepali language writers/poets form India and List of Nepalese poets refers to - poets with Nepali nationality who write in any languages spoken in Nepal For example; Ganesh Lal Shrestha, Siddhidas Mahaju are Nepali poets who write in Nepalbhasha.

In other example, these lists are like List of Spanish-language authors and List of Spanish women writers

More poets who write in other languages to be included. It takes time.

Hope, this clarify your concern.

Thus, this article should not be deleted.

NPR Newsletter No.17

Hello Noq,

News
  • The WMF has announced that Google Translate is now available for translating articles through the content translation tool. This may result in an increase in machine translated articles in the New Pages Feed. Feel free to use the {{rough translation}} tag and gently remind (or inform) editors that translations from other language Wikipedia pages still require attribution per WP:TFOLWP.
Discussions of interest
  • Two elements of CSD G6 have been split into their own criteria: R4 for redirects in the "File:" namespace with the same name as a file or redirect at Wikimedia Commons (Discussion), and G14 for disambiguation pages which disambiguate zero pages, or have "(disambiguation)" in the title but disambiguate a single page (Discussion).
  • {{db-blankdraft}} was merged into G13 (Discussion)
  • A discussion recently closed with no consensus on whether to create a subject-specific notability guideline for theatrical plays.
  • There is an ongoing discussion on a proposal to create subject-specific notability guidelines for chemicals and organism taxa.
Reminders
  • NPR is not a binary keep / delete process. In many cases a redirect may be appropriate. The deletion policy and its associated guideline clearly emphasise that not all unsuitable articles must be deleted. Redirects are not contentious. See a classic example of the templates to use. More templates are listed at the R template index. Reviewers who are not aware, do please take this into consideration before PROD, CSD, and especially AfD because not even all admins are aware of such policies, and many NAC do not have a full knowledge of them.
NPP Tools Report
  • Superlinks – allows you to check an article's history, logs, talk page, NPP flowchart (on unpatrolled pages) and more without navigating away from the article itself.
  • copyvio-check – automatically checks the copyvio percentage of new pages in the background and displays this info with a link to the report in the 'info' panel of the Page curation toolbar.
  • The NPP flowchart now has clickable hyperlinks.

Or are you proposing that we should include the same amount of coverage about every unnamed charcter in the film? (TW) undothank Tag: Undo Noq, not restricted to the continual reversions you are making to the Rambo (franchise) page, but addressing your statements and questions you have made when taking your actions, it is a matter of fact that many characters in many movies have names that might only be shown in the original screenplay. Most of the characters in Rambo and across the films in the franchise series have one name. Sylvester Stallone has a distinct writing style and approach to characterisation, which are all considered important to the plot and the film's intentions. The missionaries in Rambo IV all have names, Michael, Sarah, and Preacher were the only missionaries with scripted dialogue. The preacher's dialogue is obviously carefully considered as in the dialogue of the preacher are words from the Bible (1 Corinthians 1:27). This fact being what it is, it is a very weak argument that you are bringing to say that the character is not significant. talk It is generally observed and a practice that is widely accepted across Wikipedia listings that there are professionally cast characters of all rankings for movies that are listed therein. Not just in the case of the Rambo (franchise) but many movies. You have not been accused directly by me of trolling, however it is observed that you have taken a particular interest in the work I have been doing to assist and improve Wikipedia pages. Noting when you first started out on this platform under your guise as 'Now' it does beg the question as to why? Withepedia (talk) 02:11, 30 April 2019 (UTC):
Wikipedia does not general list all members of the cast of the vast majority of films, so your initial premise is wrong. Your persistent attempts to add a minor character into what is a short summary of the film is WP:UNDUE - please can you show a short summary of that film anywhere that goes into that level of detail? As for your denial of accussing me of trolling - see [1] where you did just that. As far as the accusation of my having a particular interest in you, a look at my contributions - there is a link on the left hand side to show those - will dispel that. A look at your contributions however show that they are almost exclusively promotional edits for one minor actor - The stage name of whom makes up part of your user name. That actor has also accused me of trolling on his twitter feed. I have noted that you have stated that you are not that person but you do seem to go out of your way to make it look like you are. noq (talk) 10:45, 30 April 2019 (UTC)
Long ago I met James With in person. You mention James With (James Wearing Smith) as being a minor actor, but I think he is more than just a bit part actor, which you declared previously. In the first attempt to document something about him on Wikipedia, which you marked for speedy deletion at that time many years ago, I did not know much about how to add information to Wikipedia. Choosing the user name was just inspired by my first attempt to add new information to Wikipedia about this actor. I am not saying it is coincidence that you then decide to delete my next attempt many years later, but it does draw some strange parallels. Your additions to Wikipedia appear very limited, particularly considering the huge amount of time you have recorded making deletions and changes to other people's work on Wikipedia. Withepedia (talk) 02:42, 3 May 2019 (UTC)
You are mistaken. I did not know anything about With until this latest article was created. The versions that were deleted 11 years ago, 8 years ago and 5 years ago wew all nominated by different people. And the recent discussion about the Wearing-Smith article just reinforces the previous one - he fails to meet WP:NACTOR. Your spending 11 years trying to create the article says more about you than about me. And please, Straw man arguments about not being vandalism when what was linked to was about notability and sourcing do not help. noq (talk) 09:44, 3 May 2019 (UTC)
Generally speaking, your history demonstrates a clear and present, one might add dangerous attitude-driven approach towards editing, with many multiple times stated by you as the reason for your decision to revert or delete amendments being declared as "vandalism". When the purpose of the volunteers helping to create a better source is undermined by the systematic claim that an amendment is vandalism, then the platform itself becomes vulnerable to diminishing in purpose, due to the heavy-handed authoritarian approach of a few, who use their time to address rather than to research and create more accurate information on Wikipedia. Draftifying articles

When you draftify an article, could you please make sure you don't select the option to leave a redirect? Such redirects are speedyable under WP:R2. GoldenRing (talk) 15:46, 7 May 2019 (UTC)

@GoldenRing: The script I use normally adds an WP:R2 tag automatically. Which one did it miss? noq (talk) 16:03, 7 May 2019 (UTC)
Sorry, I didn't realise you don't have the page mover right, which allows you to move pages without leaving a redirect. Would you like it? GoldenRing (talk) 18:02, 7 May 2019 (UTC)
@GoldenRing: If you are happy for me to have it. IT would save a bit of work for the admins. noq (talk) 08:56, 8 May 2019 (UTC)

Dear Mr. Noq, I had included a name in notable Kheras in the page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Khera The changes have been reverted by you. May I please know the reason ? Sincere Regards --Sunilkhera (talk) 09:24, 9 May 2019 (UTC) Sunil Khera

@Sunilkhera: As stated in the edit summary, there is no article associated with that name. Consensus on English Wikipedia is all entries in lists of notable people need to have their own article. Also, you appear to be writing about yourself which is a conflict of interest. Wikipedia is not meant to be a tool to advertise yourself. noq (talk) 09:28, 9 May 2019 (UTC)

Actually I am a junior lawyer working under Mr. Sunil Khera, advocate and want to include his name in the list. For this i have created an account in his name . kindly guide me how to do it. Raghav Sachdeva--Sunilkhera (talk) 09:32, 9 May 2019 (UTC)

@Sunilkhera:. I would very strongly suggest that you do not do that. As a lawyer, you should be aware of the concepts of WP:Conflict of interest. You should also make sure that you are aware of WP:PAID and the requirements that places on you. As I said previously, this is not the place to promote your employer. noq (talk) 09:36, 9 May 2019 (UTC)

Of course the linked articles provide information on this. I have read them, and even though I might be still learning, the attempts being made are not vandalism or ill-intended. They are made after careful research and reading. Withepedia (talk) 02:45, 3 May 2019 (UTC)

FYI-->noq, "James With" is credited twice in the official poster, once in the credits (on the 2nd line below the movie title "A Stranger in Paradise") following after actress Sonia Cooling, James With is credited as an actor, and then his name appears again (on the 3rd line) after the words "consulting producer" "James With" is written. James With is clearly both an accredited actor and accredited producer on A Stranger in Paradise. Withepedia (talk) 09:50, 7 May 2019 (UTC)Withepedia (talk) 09:59, 7 May 2019 (UTC)

NPR Newsletter No.18

Hello Noq,

WMF at work on NPP Improvements

Niharika Kohli, a product manager for the growth team, announced that work is underway in implementing improvements to New Page Patrol as part of the 2019 Community Wishlist and suggests all who are interested watch the project page on meta. Two requested improvements have already been completed. These are:

  • Allow filtering by no citations in page curation
  • Not having CSD and PRODs automatically marked as reviewed, reflecting current consensus among reviewers and current Twinkle functionality.
Reliable Sources for NPP

Rosguill has been compiling a list of reliable sources across countries and industries that can be used by new page patrollers to help judge whether an article topic is notable or not. At this point further discussion is needed about if and how this list should be used. Please consider joining the discussion about how this potentially valuable resource should be developed and used.

Backlog drive coming soon

Look for information on the an upcoming backlog drive in our next newsletter. If you'd like to help plan this drive, join in the discussion on the New Page Patrol talk page.

You chose to move this to draft space a minute or so after I contested speedy deletion, which resulted in an article whose history makes it look like I wrote it, which I did not. Can you please get the history merged, and refrain from being so disruptive in the future? Phil Bridger (talk) 18:30, 21 May 2019 (UTC)

I'm sorry that I did not notice the timing of your edit. However, the article creator had said that it was a draft so moving it to draft namespace seemed appropriate. If I had spotted the timing of your edit I would have paused a while and if I had seen your subsequent edit I would not have moved it. There was no intention to be disruptive so please WP:AGF. noq (talk) 16:56, 22 May 2019 (UTC)

Economy of Asia

Hi, i see you have reverted my edits on Economy of Asia. I took the information from International Monetary Fund - ([1]) And also the other information on the article is also from the same place. New Page Review newsletter July-August 2019

Hello Noq,

WMF at work on NPP Improvements

More new features are being added to the feed, including the important red alert for previously deleted pages. This will only work if it is selected in your filters. Best is to 'select all'. Do take a moment to check out all the new features if you have not already done so. If anything is not working as it should, please let us know at NPR. There is now also a live queue of AfC submissions in the New Pages Feed. Feel free to review AfCs, but bear in mind that NPP is an official process and policy and is more important.

QUALITY of REVIEWING

Articles are still not always being checked thoroughly enough. If you are not sure what to do, leave the article for a more experienced reviewer. Please be on the alert for any incongruities in patrolling and help your colleagues where possible; report patrollers and autopatrolled article creators who are ostensibly undeclared paid editors. The displayed ORES alerts offer a greater 'at-a-glance' overview, but the new challenges in detecting unwanted new content and sub-standard reviewing do not necessarily make patrolling any easier, nevertheless the work may have a renewed interest factor of a different kind. A vibrant community of reviewers is always ready to help at NPR.

Backlog

The backlog is still far too high at between 7,000 and 8,000. Of around 700 user rights holders, 80% of the reviewing is being done by just TWO users. In the light of more and more subtle advertising and undeclared paid editing, New Page Reviewing is becoming more critical than ever.

Move to draft

NPR is triage, it is not a clean up clinic. This move feature is not limited to bios so you may have to slightly re-edit the text in the template before you save the move. Anything that is not fit for mainspace but which might have some promise can be draftified - particularly very poor English and machine and other low quality translations.

Notifying users

Remember to use the message feature if you are just tagging an article for maintenance rather than deletion. Otherwise articles are likely to remain perma-tagged. Many creators are SPA and have no intention of returning to Wikipedia. Use the feature too for leaving a friendly note note for the author of a first article you found well made or interesting. Many have told us they find such comments particularly welcoming and encouraging.

PERM

Admins are now taking advantage of the new time-limited user rights feature. If you have recently been accorded NPR, do check your user rights to see if this affects you. Depending on your user account preferences, you may receive automated notifications of your rights changes. Requests for permissions are not mini-RfAs. Helpful comments are welcome if absolutely necessary, but the bot does a lot of the work and the final decision is reserved for admins who do thorough research anyway.

Other news

School and academic holidays will begin soon in various places around the Western world. Be on the lookout for the usual increase in hoax, attack, and other junk pages.

Our next newsletter might be announcing details of a possible election for co-ordinators of NPR. If you think you have what it takes to micro manage NPR, take a look at New Page Review Coordinators - it's a job that requires a lot of time and dedication.

Draft: No Vacation

Hi, I noticed you moved the article No Vacation from article space to draftspace. You notified the author that you did so, but I don't see any evidence that the editor asked for this to occur. I'm not aware of existing guidelines regarding the unilateral moving of articles into draftspace - the editor is at least active, but I can imagine that, if this happened to an editor who was not currently active, it could end up being used as a sort of "pocket deletion" without consensus. I'm in agreement that the article is undersourced, but I am not sure this is the best way to handle that situation. Can you point me toward current documentation about moving to draftspace that motivates the action? Thanks. Chubbles (talk) 21:41, 5 July 2019 (UTC)

Ahir's relationship with Rajput Dynasty.

Here's the source which states Ahirs are descants of Yadavas. And are derived from Soomra Dynasty. https://books.google.co.in/books?id=4Cy_-FXW9BQC&pg=PA46&redir_esc=y#v=snippet&q=Descended%20from%20Yadava%20Sumra%20Dynasty&f=false

And here's the source for Soomra being Rajputs. https://www.britannica.com/topic/Sumra-family

And they are mentioned as Yaduvanshis in many books. One example here:- https://books.google.co.in/books?id=Nvl1SFI1T8QC&pg=PA52&redir_esc=y#v=onepage&q=Yaduvanshi%20Ahirs&f=false

And here's what Yaduvanshi means and how they are Rajputs. https://books.google.co.in/books?id=HLfUAAAAMAAJ&redir_esc=y

And last but not least:- Several Chandravanshi castes and communities in modern India, such as the Sainis of Punjab Province,[2] Yadav,[3] Ayar,[4] Chudasama,[5]Jadeja,[6] Bhatti Rajputs,[7] Jadaun,[7] and Ahir[8] claim descent from Yadu.

I didn't got reply from you on my talk page so I came over here to leave this here. Please if you may add Ahir back to Chandravanshi Section of Template Rajput or make a new section with heading Yaduvanshi if you still don't believe any connection between Chandravanshi and Yaduvanshi. Thanks. HinduKshatrana (talk) 18:16, 7 July 2019 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Druk Trowa

I would like a full and objective explanation on what is "important" enough to be included in Wikipedia. I understand that an article can be rejected for many reasons, of which we can all agree. Advertisement. Falsehoods. Bad/poor editing. No, or poor citations. But to reject an article simply because YOU do not believe that it has any relevance to the broader English speaking world? You take it upon yourself to make this determination?

Wikipedia is about expanding human knowledge for all of us. Yes, there needs to be gatekeepers to maintain some level of order. But to completely delete an article simply because YOU do do not see the relevance is the height of arrogance. Yes, Druk Trowa is a small magazine in a small country, in a corner of the world, that most people in the English speaking world are unaware of. But does that make this information totally irrelevant to human knowledge? It may not be useful knowledge to you, may not even be interesting to you. But why do you have the final say in whether this is useful or interesting to anyone else? Because its small? Because Bhutan is small? Bhutan is on the other side of the world and few on the western world have heard of it? That's a western-centric arrogance that perpetuates the idea that only things valuable or interesting to the western world, should be included in the English language version of Wikipedia.

Admittedly, Druk Trowa is a small news magazine that focuses on movies and entertainment in Bhutan. Only a small niche of the worlds readers would ever find that interesting. But lets apply that to a western example, a United States example.

The Chicago Tribune, a newspaper that we can all admit is one of the US's most important and noteworthy newspapers...only has a readership of 448,930. Even so, lets assume that the entire city of Chicago (population: 2,695,598) is aware of the Chicago Tribune. The Earth has 7.7 Billion persons. That would mean that the Chicago Tribune has only been ready by, is only known by approximately 0.00035007766 % of the population of the planet. But that that definition and criteria, I should mark the Chicago Tribune for deletion, simply because it is an insignificant newspaper, known by the tiniest fraction of a % of the worlds population. Should I do this? Would I be correct in doing this?

Is that what Wikipedia stands for? Simply erasing and deleting information, unless it is determined "valuable" by a certain level of the planets population? Is that what Wikipedia stands for? Is information to be included on the English language version of Wikipedia only if people in the "west" determine that is is "important enough" to be included? Is English wikipedia only for people in the west?

And don't even get me started on the noteworthiness of the "Kardashians" and the value to human knowledge that particular Wikipedia article brings to humanity....

Asia is as important to the world as the west. Asian newspapers and Asian media are as important to world knowledge as their better known western counterparts in the "west". Small countries deserve to have their knowledge shared the same as large countries.

Its arrogance to say that just because a magazine or a newspaper or a news source is located in a small country in Asia, it is less worthy of being cataloged for human knowledge as some medium size newspaper in the United States. That totally goes against the spirit of what Wikipedia is even about....

DZ-NYU-2020 (Daisy) Talk 20:34, 5 August 2019 (UTC)

I received your recent message re: Druk Trowa and the Wikipedia standards regarding media companies. I will fully review the standards and make sure that any new articles I create will be in full compliance with these standards. I will also proceed under the assumption that media (newspapers) in Asia have equal validity to their western counterparts and articles on them will be allowed, so long as they meet the same standards that are applied to western newspapers. Therefore, if a newspaper meets the Wikipedia standards in the relevant Asian country, then it should be allowed on the English version of Wikipedia. If it does not meet the standards in the relevant Asian country, then it should be excluded from the English language version of Wikipedia. I agree, that standards need to exist. Wikipedia is not Google. And the standards exist to to protect the integrity and relevance of the Wikipedia project. But standards should also be applied objectively and in a neutral manner with no bias in terms of geographic region. Cultural and geographic bias has no place in Wikipedia. But I will review the standards and make sure that if I do write an article on a newspaper in Asia, that it fully meets the Wikipedia requirements, regardless of whether that newspaper is relatively unknown in the wider English speaking world.

Speedy deletion nomination of Pontiac Continuing Education Centre

Information icon Hello Noq. Thanks for patrolling new pages – it's a very important task! I'm just letting you know, however, that you shouldn't tag pages as lacking context (CSD A1), content (CSD A3),or significance (CSD A7) moments after they are created, as you did at Pontiac Continuing Education Centre. It's best to wait at least 10–15 minutes for more content to be added if the page is very short, and the articles should not be marked as patrolled. Tagging such pages in a very short space of time may drive away well-meaning contributors, which is not good for Wikipedia. Attack pages (G10), blatant nonsense (G1), copyright violations (G12) and pure vandalism/blatant hoaxes (G3) should of course be tagged and deleted immediately. Thanks..

New Page Review newsletter September-October 2019

Hello Noq,

Backlog

Instead of reaching a magic 300 as it once did last year, the backlog approaching 6,000 is still far too high. An effort is also needed to ensure that older unsuitable older pages at the back of the queue do not get automatically indexed for Google.

Coordinator

A proposal is taking place here to confirm a nominated user as Coordinator of NPR.

This month's refresher course

Why I Hate Speedy Deleters, a 2008 essay by long since retired Ballonman, is still as valid today. Those of us who patrol large numbers of new pages can be forgiven for making the occasional mistake while others can learn from their 'beginner' errors. Worth reading.

Deletion tags

Do bear in mind that articles in the feed showing the trash can icon (you will need to have 'Nominated for deletion' enabled for this in your filters) may have been tagged by inexperienced or non NPR rights holders using Twinkle. They require your further verification.

Paid editing

Please be sure to look for the tell-tale signs of undisclosed paid editing. Contact the creator if appropriate, and submit the issue to WP:COIN if necessary. WMF policy requires paid editors to connect to their adverts.

Subject-specific notability guidelines' (SNG). Alternatives to deletion
  • Reviewers are requested to familiarise themselves once more with notability guidelines for organisations and companies.
  • Blank-and-Redirect is a solution anchored in policy. Please consider this alternative before PRODing or CSD. Note however, that users will often revert or usurp redirects to re-create deleted articles. Do regularly patrol the redirects in the feed.
Not English
  • A common issue: Pages not in English or poor, unattributed machine translations should not reside in main space even if they are stubs. Please ensure you are familiar with WP:NPPNE. Check in Google for the language and content, and if they do have potential, tag as required, then move to draft. Modify the text of the template as appropriate before sending it.
Tools

Regular reviewers will appreciate the most recent enhancements to the New Pages Feed and features in the Curation tool, and there are still more to come. Due to the wealth of information now displayed by ORES, reviewers are strongly encouraged to use the system now rather than Twinkle; it will also correctly populate the logs.

Stub sorting, by SD0001: A new script is available for adding/removing stub tags. See User:SD0001/StubSorter.js, It features a simple HotCat-style dynamic search field. Many of the reviewers who are using it are finding it an improvement upon other available tools.

Assessment: The script at User:Evad37/rater makes the addition of Wikiproject templates extremely easy. New page creators rarely do this. Reviewers are not obliged to make these edits but they only take a few seconds. They can use the Curation message system to let the creator know what they have done.

DannyS712 bot III is now patrolling certain categories of uncontroversial redirects. Curious? Check out its patrol log.
