Wait! Please read the school article guidelines before posting. Elementary/primary schools and middle schools must clearly show why they are important, and must satisfy the criteria for organisations. The usual answer here is that you need more reliable sources to demonstrate the school is notable and to support the claims made in the article.

Could I ask someone to have a quick look over on User:Danjel/Rose Bay Secondary College, a draft that I've been working on to replace the stub at Rose Bay Secondary College.

I worked closely with RBSC for quite a few years until earlier this year, so I want to be careful that I haven't tripped over any WP:COI issues. I'm also trying not to include any information that will require references that I simply don't have.

If suggestions could be made at User talk:Danjel/Rose Bay Secondary College, I'd appreciate it. Cheers. I'm cross posting this from WP:EIA. -danjel (talk to me) 06:15, 26 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know if this is the right section, and it's a small issue. But this page is no longer a stub but is categorized as such on the talkpage. Since I'm not in this project I didn't want to mess with it.

Is there a general consensus about whether we should go about listing out every single achievement and award won by the school? This has been a problem among quite a few Singapore schools, where opinions differ (quite greatly I might add) about whether those things should be included wholly or simply summarised (perhaps highlighting some notable achievements or the like). An example would right now be Temasek Secondary School, where a discussion is currently going on.

Also, I think Temasek Secondary School is no longer a Stub and should be reclassified into Start/something higher. Would someone kindly take a look at it and provide comments as well? Thanks. AngelSL (talk) 09:13, 2 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Would someone please take a look at the edit history of The Ensworth School? There seems to be an edit war between ObeseCows and E1958. Without checking on the contribs of individual users, the article is neutral and well referenced, even if in places it goes a bit OTT on detail. There may be a possible question of copyright on the inclusion of the full text of the school songs, and there may be a question of the list of names per WP:LISTPEOPLE of headmasters who may not be notable in their own right. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 04:55, 24 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The problem is that a historic school has changed names. It is of course Wikipedia policy (or at least a guideline) that we use the current building name, in this case Central Elementary School. I have used names for buildings in articles I have written only to have the articles moved. So I knew the current name for this building was the best.

The problem is that the elementary school currently occupying the building was in another location for 82 years. Longer if you go by what the school was called for 25 to 50 years before that (I'm having trouble pinning down accurate sources for the construction date). The other location has been vacant for seven years.

A Wikipedia article on this school would surely mention the history of the "school" during those 82 years and of course the 25-50 years the school existed before that. But the building the school now occupies is what makes it notable. An elementary school is not notable enough for Wikipedia. A historic elementary school is, though it is the building that is historic. The elementary school's previous building might be, but I thought it was just too far gone to save, unlike the historic building where the school is now.

I tried explaining this to another editor who wanted to help me with the article, but this editor is so confused he/she can't make productive contributions. I end up having to revert most of them. The last time, I got no repsonse from this person, and so far he/she hasn't said anything. But the last edit summary had incorrect information in it, and it is clear from that and the editor's talk page comment (not the article talk page) that he/she just doesn't understand. While it is all clear to me, I do have the knowledge of what is going on with these buildings. The article is inadequate if it doesn't explain the situation to this person's satisfaction.— Vchimpanzee · talk · contributions · 20:22, 2 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This is an elementary school. I don't think they're notable, but I'd like some additional opinions. There's a lot of sources, but they don't seem like significant coverage to me because they seem to be mainly lists of kids winning awards and that doesn't seem to set them apart from most elementary schools. Thanks. Mdtemp (talk) 19:21, 4 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I think a well-intentioned, fairly new editor may be heading for conflict which might be avoided with a little judicious advice. I ran across some colloquy between the new editor, who is the recent major contributor to the article and a couple of other editors whom I know to be patient, fair, decent and diligent regarding the effort to improve the encyclopedia. I wonder if an early intervention from here might keep things from escalating. See [1] and this section. It's the school article guidelines that the editor doesn't seem to grasp. The editor didn't take the advice of the good doctor, but they might hear it from this project, since a misunderstanding of the project guidelines are the fundamental issue. If I were to step in, however, I believe I would be perceived as yet another "WikiNazi" piling on, as I am not involved in the project. May wiser heads prevail. Such as the Spirit acronym we have adopted, the addition of a boys volleyball team, and the addition of solar panels this past summer. Is there a way someone can check to make sure what I have added is appropriate because I thought it was ok but I am second guessing that maybe some of it is not needed.Michaels365 (talk) 04:28, 26 February 2016 (UTC)Michaels365[reply]

I've had a belated look at this one. I don't think the SPIRIT acronym is appropriate for Wikipedia (see WP:WPSCH/AG#WNTI, mission statements) but the other info looks ok - the solar panels could do with a references. I've removed the SPIRIT info. Tacyarg (talk) 12:15, 2 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Colors field in school-related infoboxes

Neither {{Infobox school}} nor {{Infobox school district}} give guidance about the ordering to be used with the colors/colours/school_colors/school_colours fields. Presumably one lists school colors from top to bottom (viz., caps/helmets, jerseys, shorts/pants, footwear). What about foreground (i.e., lettering, lettering border (if any)) versus background? Varsity versus junior varsity? Perhaps the description should be explicit (e.g. "      Black with white lettering and royal blue highlights")? Feel free to update the template descriptions. Thanks in advance. -- DanielPenfield (talk) 04:33, 6 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

One lists whatever colors are reported by reliable independent sources. Generally there are only two. The field on question is not for a visual description of a uniform, but for the official school colors. In the US, those colors are reported to the state athletic sanctioning body and they would be the best source. We generally do not include any Information on sub varsity teams.John from Idegon (talk) 04:50, 6 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the quick response, but...
Your statement My response
One lists whatever colors are reported by reliable independent sources. Could you provide an example? Template:Infobox_school#U.S._school_example does not cite any sources for school colors. Also, Cuba-Rushford High School cited on Template:Infobox school does not cite any sources for school colors. Neither do other high-profile US high schools that I can think of (e.g., New Trier High School, Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, The Bronx High School of Science, Boston Latin School, Los Angeles High School, Central High School (Philadelphia))
In the US, those colors are reported to the state athletic sanctioning body and they would be the best source. Can you give an example showing where/how they're reported so that others can properly cite articles? For Cuba-Rushford High School cited on Template:Infobox school, [2] produces results, but [3] produces no results and [4] produces results with only "blue" or "silver" in other school/school district names.
-- DanielPenfield (talk) 05:37, 6 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
You are considerably over complicating this. Sources do not have to be cited to exist. Some articles have crap content. The one thing we do not do is look at the color of their uniforms and describe them. I am not at all clear on what your chart is supposed to show. Again, most state sanctioning organizations have the school colors in their school directories. Perhaps another editor might have a more specific source for New York. Also, most schools list their school colors somewhere on their websites. Suboptimal, but usable if nothing else exists. Without any actual source, just leave it out. John from Idegon (talk) 07:28, 6 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
BTW, school colors extend well beyond the athletic field. As an example, the leather folder that holds my high school diploma is purple with gold lettering, my alma mater's official colors. If the school has a student uniform, generally the colors are reflected somewhere in it. Caps & gowns, official letterhead, sometimes even the colors of structures, all these things can and often do reflect the school's colors. John from Idegon (talk) 07:39, 6 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
If you want an example check out Central Catholic High School (Bloomington, Illinois). I cited the school's strategic plan as the source for the school colors. Presumably this is acceptable as non-controversial self-published information per WP:ABOUTSELF. The most reliable source about a school's colors is the school itself so I don't see why independent sources would be required. EyeTripleE (talk) 20:13, 6 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Do we include or omit a short-term scandalous story about the acting head? Please have a look at the article history, and visit Talk:Cambridge International School, Cambridge if you'd like to add a view. Thanks and best wishes DBaK (talk) 11:30, 16 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I would think probably not. As an encyclopedia we should be writing about the school and not about what its staff or pupils do that is not directly concerned with the school itself. The only connections in this case are that a school was the man's workplace and a child was involved. The offense did not take place at the school and the child was not one of its pupils. On the talk page for this article there is a discussion about the section listing previous head teachers that would benefit from a second opinion. Would anyone be willing to take a look? More general suggestions for improvement gratefully received as well, of course! If there is a question of insufficient citations, it would be appreciated if the cn tag was used, rather than deleting text. Most of the history section comes from a book that was written on the history of the school, so I haven't repeated the same citation on every sentence. Rhanbury (talk) 12:47, 3 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Almost all of the history section has now been deleted because the main source was historical research contained in a book that the school paid for, hence was deemed a non-independent source, however well supported the individual facts were by original historical documents. See discussion on the talk page. Other sections have also been deleted, for various reasons. The article is now rather thin for a school of this age and academic ranking. As a conflicted editor (the Headmistress is my wife) I have agreed not to touch the article directly. If any non-conflicted editor would be willing to add some additional material, I would be pleased to help in any way appropriate, from providing citations through to writing draft copy. Hi, Nolan Perry, this is an article that you will have to write yourself because no one will be interested in contributing to it as it will be promotional and difficult to meet Wikipedia's notability requirements. It does not come under the tutelage of WikiProject Schools, it comes under Wikipedia:WikiProject Business and is subject to the more rigorous requirements of notability at WP:CORP. You will almost certainly need to make a balanced article that also includes the accusations of the organisation being a scam. Please note however, that if you are connected in any way whatsoever with NSHS as for example, a member, student, scholarship awardee, employee, adminstrator or shareholder, or even related to such people (parent, sibling) you may neither create nor edit a Wikipedia article about it. Looking at those lists, Tacyarg, it seems as if every one who can instruct someone gets a mention. Even adverts for driving schools. How do I get them there? Also, how do I fix the Contents box to accommodate the new articles? And can sections within the Contents box be collapsed? Athletics doesn't need all that room. Also how do I add something to the infobox? And did I do the reference correctly?JKWS13 (talk) 21:20, 12 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The text you added on the talk page would need to be rewritten in your own words. We don't copy copyrighted material into Wikipedia. See WP:CV
You could insert a history section with this markup: ==History<ref>https://www.lexrich5.org/Domain/290</ref>== That will be added to the contents box and includes the reference.
I'll clean up some of the formatting of athletics. Gab4gab (talk) 10:52, 13 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Draft:Rustam School

I'm currently working on Draft:Rustam School, which is a language school. Are there any special policies of language schools? BᴇʀʀᴇʟʏTalkContribs 13:52, 25 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Berrely: This is just a personal opinion, but given the current WP bureaucracy, I can't see this being accepted for main space whatever you do to it. It will be seen as just a Saturday School- and therefore not notable. A better bet would be to work it up in Fortismere School#Hosting the Rustam School as a section. It can be reached by a redirect. If the text becomes overly large then you have a stronger case for a stand alone article. And no, I don't know of any specific advice pages. Happy to talk.

Sekolah Global Indo-Asia

Advice about this one please. Hurst Lodge School was an independent school which merged with Hawley Place School, for which we do not have an article - there is a reference at Hawley, Hampshire#Amenities. The merged school was on the Hawley Place site and used the name HawleyHurst. This school apparently went into administration and closed in 2020 (unreferenced statement in Hurst Lodge article). The school has now re-opened, still on the Hawley Place site but now using the name Hurst Lodge. This needs to be acknowledged in the Hurst Lodge article somehow - text from the new school's website has already been added twice and reverted. Should the new school have a new article as it is a different site? The new iteration of Hurst Lodge has a different URN to its previous incarnation, but I'm not sure if it is the same as HawleyHurst's one. Thanks. Tacyarg (talk) 17:35, 27 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

School article are, generally, more about an organization than about a building. So I think in this case a new article Hurst Lodge School (established 2020) might be written. The existing article is about a different organization which presumably was notable and it's article should not replaced with coverage of the new organization re-using the same name. Thanks for this, now done. New article could do with some watchers as there have been what appear to be CoI issues on the previous school's article - copy/paste of text from the new school'a website. Tacyarg (talk) 18:01, 18 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The Durham Free School

I would like to suggest the creation of a page for Durham Free School (In Durham, UK). I feel it is notable as it was one of the first free schools opened in the area, and it demonstrated how poor the free schools concept was. There was significant coverage in the news, as a result of the school underperforming, being under-utilised, receiving poor education inspection reports (Ofsted) and ultimately having its funding withdrawn by the government, directly causing its closure.

GeekBurst. you don't need to ask. You are welcome to go ahead and create the page. Our WP:WPSCHOOLS project pages contain a wealth of information, and you can view some of our school Good Articles to see how a school article is put together. We would advise creating the article in your user space as a draft then submitting it to WP:AfC for review when ready. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 15:20, 10 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Your input is requested at Talk:Yeshivat Netiv Aryeh about the best way to go about portraying abuse allegations that were levelled at the dean. Thank you. Havradim leaf a message 11:01, 13 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Im trying to identify what should be done to this article to make it better as I cannot find any additional information to add. Cheers. PerryPerryD Talk To Me 14:37, 12 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Recently, there has been alot of media coverage about the violence at this school (see links). I think it is notable enough to include in the article but I'm not sure. Is it? If it is, should it be included in the history section or a new section?

RfC on Phillips Academy

I opened up a RfC in the talk page to reach a consensus on this issue. We'd greatly appreciate feedback from those more experienced in writing school articles. Thanks! GuyHimGuy (talk) 00:12, 1 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Can someone have a look over the history of this article. A lot of content has been removed from the page and while much of it is indeed trivial and promotional I feel that the article is now in need of expansion. I haven't personally worked on this article because I feel like I should get some help here first Pksois23 (talk) 13:45, 3 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
