Megan Barton

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was delete. --BDD (talk) 18:25, 9 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I can't see a single result on my Google search for "megan barton" which pertains to Megan Barton-Hanson which refers to her exclusively as just that. Launchballer 13:37, 15 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • This Google search throws up some results. PC78 (talk) 17:14, 15 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
This one didn't, and I was fairly sure that was a comprehensive search because it didn't give me a 'page 2' option, implying that was all the search results available for "megan barton".--Launchballer 18:06, 15 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Keep WP:REDIRECTSARECHEAP. She isn't commonly referred to as 'Megan Barton' but many people will look her up without necessarily knowing her full, long name. No harm from having this and could potentially be helpful. Boleyn (talk) 19:12, 21 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.
Please add new comments below this notice. Thanks, BDD (talk) 20:02, 23 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete as non-notable first and middle name combo. Megan Barton Hanson and Megan Hanson are already there. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 01:27, 26 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was delete. MBisanz talk 18:12, 31 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

This redirect is pointed at a section that was deleted for being promotional. There is no remaining mention of VS Joy in the article. I would suggest deletion. signed, Rosguill talk 17:48, 23 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete the previous drafts and versions were all promotional. This could be revisited if Joy is added to the history as a major president of the organization. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 18:51, 23 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

No use history, I have a hard time seeing why anyone would ever try to search using this string and would suggest deletion. signed, Rosguill talk 17:43, 23 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete Is it possible that the author intended to create separate redirects for each of these? I can see 'Katerini City', 'City of Katerini', 'Saint Catherine, Greece' and 'St. Catherine, Greece' each being individually plausible search terms for Katerini - but all of them rolled up into one? Pointless. GirthSummit (blether) 18:05, 23 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per nom. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 19:01, 23 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per others. Girth Summit, you're correct. At WP:AFC/R, one can request multiple redirects at once, but if you make a little coding mistake, it ends up being a single redirect of this sort. Some people use scripts to create redirects, but I suppose someone could misconfigure a script so that it didn't realise that a bunch of comma-separated names are a bunch of separate items. ES engine

The result of the discussion was disambiguate. --BDD (talk) 18:22, 9 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Not mentioned in the target. An internet search's top results are about the Lexus ES, so I'd suggest either redirecting there or deletion. signed, Rosguill talk 17:30, 23 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

FYI, "ES" redirecting to JavaScript engine is a software concern (ES being short for ECMAScript). This has nothing to do with automobiles. So if "ES engine" can be used as a shorthand for both car engines and particular software, it should be a disambiguation page. -Pmffl (talk) 19:18, 23 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep (as disambiguation page): agree with Pmffl. What User:Rosguill and User:AngusWOOF said about the automobile stuff can't justify a deletion of the redirect page, instead, it's a reason to create a disambiguation page (but only if other ES engines' topics exist as articles or article sections. Otherwise the redirect page should stay)--Tomchen1989 (talk) 19:10, 27 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Although I side with User:Pmffl, well well Pmffl, I told you it's usually a good practice to mention all alternative names in the article to avoid confusion of the users that land on the page through redirection. After a lot of reasoning by me, Pmffl finally agreed to keep "ECMAScript engine" but still deleted all abbreviations mentioned in the article including "JS engine", "ES engine" and "(JS)". Now, exactly what I anticipated is happening here. Even with maybe just small "(JS)"/"(ES)" noted after "JavaScript"/"ECMAScript", User:Rosguill probably wouldn't be confused in the first place. So why so keen to delete them all? --Tomchen1989 (talk) 19:10, 27 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Tomchen1989, can you restore the abbreviations for JS and ES then if sourced? AngusWOOF (barksniff) 19:13, 27 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Done. Although I didn't explicitely add bolded "ES engine" and "JS Engine" into JavaScript engine article, people use "ES engine" and "JS Engine", Google search: "ES engine" "JavaScript". Meanwhile I do realise a disambiguation page fits well for ES engine: I find it's somewhat reasonable to call Lexus ES's engine "ES engine". But more importantly, I saw another article, V6 ESL engine, states this engine is also known as the "ES engine" and "L engine" (both in bold text), I have no idea why clearly alternative names mentioned in bold text in the lead paragraph do not redirect to V6 ESL engine, I'm redirecting L engine to V6 ESL engine and (it's complicated for "L engine" which should be a disambiguation page and I'm not doing it for now) transforming ES engine to a disambiguation page. I suppose all problems are solved and the discussion here can be closed now. --Tomchen1989 (talk) 09:06, 28 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Feel free to improve the disambiguation page of ES engine. I simply added "V6 ESL engine" and "Engine for Lexus ES" there but I actually don't know what's the relation between V6 ESL engine, Lexus ES's engine and V6 engine.--Tomchen1989 (talk) 09:20, 28 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Odd substitution of ⟨E⟩ with ⟨€⟩. –LaundryPizza03 (d) 02:35, 15 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep first two: "€uro" doesn't seem that odd to me and it gets plenty of hits on Google, and "€UR" looks valid too. Not so sure about "€C" for European Commission though, doesn't make much sense to me so maybe delete that one. PC78 (talk) 06:31, 15 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Question Do UK or ROI keyboards come with the € sign, or do they require extended-character input methods? Something like U$A would be quite implausible if $ weren't on any anglophone keyboards, and I'm tending to think the same of €uro and €UR unless it's easy to type € on some anglophone regions' keyboards. Nyttend (talk) 01:30, 26 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Nyttend: UK keyboards don't have a Euro key (and wouldn't because UK isn't in the Eurozone) but British and American keyboards article notes that the Euro symbol is available with an Alt or Option key press. I'm not sure there is an "ROI keyboard". Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 13:52, 27 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, thank you. I know the UK has never been a Eurozone country, but I figured Britons would type € more commonly than other anglophones, so I figured I might ask. And I didn't know if the ROI had its own keyboard layout, or if they just went with the UK's. Nyttend (talk) 21:41, 27 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know about ROI but my UK keyboard has the Euro symbol marked on the 4 key, it's typed by holding down the AltGr key. PC78 (talk) 21:49, 30 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Move Pi5 (toxin) over redirect. I oppose a move without redirect due to the redirect's history as "Pi5", including a previous RfD. Gyimhu, if you think PI5 should exist as a redirect, simply create it! There's no need to complicate things by tying its fate to an unrelated redirect. -- Tavix (talk) 02:53, 23 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
    • When I wrote RfD pi5 redirected to Phosphorus pentaiodide so I thought pi5 should be PI5. I didn't now about Pi5 (toxin). Tavix is right: I revoke nomination. Gyimhu (talk) 05:46, 23 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
