Witty lama is gracing the fair city of Melbourne with his presence and like the generous hosts we are, naturally we should oblige him with a Meetup.

If you managed to find this page, you are welcome to attend. Bring parents, children, friends and wingpeople as required.

When and Where

Date: it looks like the most convenient time for a majority of people is Sunday 10th Feb

Time: Shall we say 3pm

Location: Computerbank in North Melbourne.

Computerbank is fine for a Sunday! I will contact them to make sure. pfctdayelise (talk) 12:21, 4 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I support Computerbank. It has wireless connectivity and restaurents/bars are not too far away. --Bduke (talk) 21:25, 4 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Is Computerbank confirmed? Hope to see you all there. --Bduke (talk) 01:21, 9 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, confirmed. Sorry for the very late notice. :) pfctdayelise (talk) 01:47, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Possible dates

If you intend to come, please say which dates do and don't suit you. We should aim to finalise the date around the end of January.

  • Any (and all) of these dates/times are good with me. Witty Lama 23:34, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • I will be overseas until Feb 13th Alex Bakharev (talk) 09:47, 20 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • I should right for either of the weekend dates but coming up and into town during weekday peak hour traffic is not really feasible for me. Sarah 00:43, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sunday 10th Feb

(Probably mid afternoon to evening.)

  • Yes. pfctdayelise (talk) 13:22, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Fine with me. --bainer (talk) 16:13, 18 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Prolly. Sarah 00:40, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Ooooo. This is like my first edit in agesssss.... Phgao (talk) 08:42, 24 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • I'll say yes. --Michael Billington (talk) 03:07, 25 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • probably OK for me. --Bduke (talk) 21:51, 25 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • This looks like the boat to be in =]. My first Meet, how exciting! Deon555 (talk) 13:01, 26 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Yup. John Vandenberg (talk) 01:53, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Using Skype

This is on the same day as the Brisbane meetup, so maybe we should somehow connect on Skype at some point, if we can find a place to connect. Video teleconferencing would be a plus. It would probably be in the mid afternoon. - Zero1328 Talk? 08:35, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Venue

Add possibilities that you know of here.

  • Computerbank in North Melbourne were great hosts last time and likely happy to do it again. I think we could not do it on Saturday at Computerbank though.
  • Picnic in one of Melbourne's fine parks.
  • The courtyard at fandangos (Nth Melbourne) on Errol st for weekends. Check availability first. aliasd·U·T 08:02, 19 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I would love to have a picnic, and I suppose we just pray about the weather. :) pfctdayelise (talk) 13:22, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It looks like we have the most people down for Sunday. Personally I like the computerbank idea, seeing as it's fairly close to the train line-- and they're apparently good hosts. That way we can't get rained out anyway. :) --Michael Billington (talk) 01:15, 27 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm definitely with Mike here.. I'd rather the geekiness of a computer joint than a park anyway :-) Deon555 (talk) 12:53, 27 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Agenda

Add items as needed.

  1. Witty lama's update from the Sydey meetup the previous week.
  2. Obligatory Melbourne vs Sydney debate
  3. Wikimedia Australia progress update
  4. Introduction to the Dictionary of Sydney

Comments

I'm based in Launceston, but I will happen to be in Melbourne on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd of February, it would be really great if you could bring forward the Meetup to that weekend. Any time Saturday afternoon/evening or anytime Sunday, any place, would suit this Launcestonian :o) --Martintg (talk) 00:16, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think these dates have been chosen specifically because they coincide with Witty lama's trip to Melbourne, so unfortunately there probably isn't a great deal of room for tweaking the dates. Sarah 00:37, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough. Hopefully I'll be able to catch up at some later date. --Martintg (talk) 00:55, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Martin, Saturday the 2nd is Open Day at LCA! I'm going to be hosting a table for Wikimedia. Come and say hi and check out other geek toys. :) --pfctdayelise (talk) 11:54, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, will do. Martintg (talk) 07:32, 22 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I should be at the LCA open day as well, I might run into you there. :] --Michael Billington (talk) 03:06, 25 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
There is a group of us Brisbaners waiting on IRC for the Melbourne crew. :) — E talk 05:34, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
By the time we got on you'd all gone home. Oh well :) --Michael Billington (talk) 12:17, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ah well, thats how things roll. We didn't spend enough time at the Pancake Manor to actually turn up to Gloria Jeans when you guys were starting, instead 3/4 of us were on our way home at 3pm your time - we just had nothing to do. Also, do you have any photos that you can show? We slightly forgot to take some of us! — E talk 12:24, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sarah grabbed some shots before we started disappearing just at the end, and I believe after I (and Greg) left, they took some more. So they should be coming soon, I imagine! Deon555 (talk) 12:40, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi all, I'm new to Melbourne and hope to come along to a meet-up soon. This past Sunday I went to the cricket instead. :-) Colin MacLaurin (talk) 02:50, 12 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
