missing verifiable source, and unclear if this is actually PD in the EU. If proof of copyright status cannot be produced, then this should be deleted FASTILY 08:28, 27 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete many people are under the impression that EU copyright expires 70 years after creation, rather than publication, or that early publications can be safely assumed to exist. Regardless, there's URAA to consider... buidhe 08:16, 28 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment: There is a non-free image (File:Hermann Julius Hoefle mug shot 1961.jpg) being used for primary identification purposes in Hermann Höfle;so, if it’s possible to convert this to non-free (which seems suspect at the moment per WP:NFCC#10a), there’s no need for two non-free images to be used for primary identification reasons. At the same time, if this file is truly PD, then there would be no justification for keeping the non-free one per WP:FREER simply to have two identifying images of Hoefle.
One kind of strange thing about this file is this edit made to the file’s page when the uploader was asked to provide a source. It’s seem a bit unusual for the file to have been removed from its source website just a few weeks after being uploaded to Wikipedia and no link for the source was ever provided which might even permit a search for some archived version to help verify WP:NFCC#4.
It looks like the same image can be seen here and here so maybe there’s a way to figure out the provenance of this one through them. — Marchjuly (talk) 11:37, 28 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment. If the copyright originally belonged to the SS/Nazi German government, it's possible that the image is public domain in the United States; see Wikipedia:Public domain#German World War II images for details. Wikiacc () 20:56, 29 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
    • Yes, but there would need to be some evidence that Alien Property Custodian ever held this image. buidhe 16:43, 2 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
      • Correct. Wikiacc () 03:38, 3 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
