  • Propose deleting Category:Sunil Chhetri (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
  • Propose deleting Category:Luis Suárez (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
Nominator's rationale: Unnecessary eponymous parent categories each containing only one other list/article. StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 19:23, 30 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Propose deleting Category:Ronald Arthur Hopwood (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
Nominator's rationale: WP:OCEPON, WP:SMALLCAT. An eponymous category is not needed if only populated with a couple of relatives. StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 19:05, 30 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. I do not see what is wrong with categorising relatives together, if they are notable enough to all have articles about them. Would it be more acceptable if the category were renamed after the father of the family, e.g. Category:John Turner Hopwood family? .Storye book (talk) 19:17, 30 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
There may be precedent for a move to Category:Hopwood family under the tree for Category:English families. StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 19:42, 30 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. Can I do that now, or should I wait for consensus here? Storye book (talk) 20:07, 30 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Please wait until a consensus is reached. Thanks. StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 00:06, 31 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Propose renaming Category:20th-century American Roman Catholic religious sisters to Category:20th-century American Roman Catholic sisters
Nominator's rationale: Parity with similar categories: we do not use "religious monks" or "religious nuns", and the extra adjective is unnecessary at this node in the tree. Elizium23 (talk) 18:16, 30 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Sports venues in Cleburne, Texas

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: merge / keep.
Nominator's rationale: Merge both up to Buildings and structures in Johnson County, Texas per WP:SMALLCAT. Category:Cleburne, Texas page does not exist. –iAidan721 (talk) 14:39, 30 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support sport venues (2 articles) to merge to Category:Buildings and structures in Cleburne, Texas; oppose buildings and structures (5 articles + a subcategory). Marcocapelle (talk) 15:25, 30 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. Read WP:SMALLCAT again...it says not to have small categories "with no potential for growth." As long as the city is standing, there is always potential for more venues and the category's growth. Tom Danson (talk) 01:17, 31 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Reading WP:SMALLCAT that strictly reduces the guideline to a dead letter. Of course every hamlet can grow to a city of millions of people, but not within reasonable amount of time for editing purposes of Wikipedia. Marcocapelle (talk) 17:03, 31 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep the second one, Merge sports venues into it. And there is now a Category:Cleburne, Texas, currently with 9 pages as well as 2 sub-cats. – Fayenatic London 21:41, 6 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge 1st, Keep 2nd — growth potential is relative. We expect some indication that there is actual growth, such as census data.

The result of the discussion was: No action required. Seems to be working there now. See e.g. (random article on Seediq language Wikipedia) https://trv.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chad. – Fayenatic London 18:49, 6 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry to bother you, I'm not very experienced. My problem is how to change the word for "category" in the Seediq Wikipedia. Right now, category is translated "keelgan," but that's a typo. It should be kleegan. This typo appears on almost every page in the Seediq Wikipedia, as the pages are categorized by dialect, but none of us in the Seediq Wikipedia editing community seems to know how to fix it. I've found the same typo in the https://translatewiki.net/, and have fixed it there. Thanks very much. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Shidailun73 (talk • contribs)

  • Propose deleting Category:Out-of-place artifacts (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
Nominator's rationale: There is no commonly attested to inclusion criteria for this category. What makes an artifact "out of place"? More than a few of these artifacts are not artifacts at all (being hoaxes). Some are not "out of place". So what purpose does this category serve other than to WP:POVPUSH that such phenomena of "out of place artifacts" exists beyond the armchair speculations of vaguely WP:PROFRINGE factions? jps (talk) 06:11, 22 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. I see it more as serving a (useful) WP:EVALFRINGE purpose, as described in the parent article out-of-place artifact. Basically (almost?) all of these are fringe theories, yes, but notable ones, and "out-of-place artifact" is a notable category of woo. – Joe (talk) 08:35, 22 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
How do we decide the inclusion criteria for this category? What reliable source has ever identified something as an out-of-place artifact? All of the reliable sources actually describing the concept of out-of-place artifacts in our article on the subject identify the description as being either a misnomer or completely arbitrary. jps (talk) 15:18, 22 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per WP:OCASSOC since the category is apparently about being associated with a fringe theory. Marcocapelle (talk) 14:48, 23 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete — per well developed category guidelines. Why have the guidelines without rigorous enforcement? WP:EVALFRINGE is an article content guideline, not a category guideline. There are no category citations to evaluate.

  • Propose deleting Category:1860s in sports in New York (state)
  • Propose deleting Category:1867 in American sports by state
Nominator's rationale: One article. Merge to 1867 in New York (state) and 1867 in American sports. –Aidan721 (talk) 18:10, 22 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support — unnecessary triple intersection with no room for growth. Heck, could be the beginning of removal of the whole useless series divided by state, when there simply aren't that many states. There are even sparsely populated subcategories years in the future.
