Cypress Park

Yes. Whispertome, this tragic murder of a child occurred in Cypress Park, now about 24 years ago and resulted in a sensational national news story. And yes, I am quite certain the circumstances surrounding this event were NOT as depicted in newspaper articles or other news media. Living in this neighborhood I have heard multiple and conflicting accounts of what occurred, and if you know anything about gangs and the inner-city, getting people to come forward with the truth is usually next to impossible. But of course the media jumped on this. "Child killed in gang shootout!" It's this fixation with the cheap and sensational that I expect Wikipedia to be above.

What I find truly offensive and inappropriate in your persistent posting of this is:

1) While this 24-year-old shooting is tragic, it is HARDLY definitive of Cypress Park -- an economically struggling but wonderful neighborhood which you are harming by perpetuating a non-neutral and sensational association with gangs and violence which happens to fall into the "if it bleeds it leads" school of journalism.

This is a notable event with some cloudy details that did occur in this neighborhood, but it is NOT the defining event for the neighborhood that you present it to be, and I would argue it not appropriate for this page where people want an overview of the neighborhood, not a biased association implying that the neighborhood is bad or high crime or gang ridden, etc. At best, this should be a small footnote way at the bottom of the page.

2) You continually place your paragraph about the "sensational gang murder" at the top of the article right after the description of Cypress Park as a neighborhood in Los angeles and the table of contents.

This placement clearly implies this is of primary importance and is somehow highly definitive of Cypress Park. You think this should be the first thing someone reads if they want information on Cypress Park, and if so, how is that not biased? I do not believe writing about the most awful and sensational event that ever happened in an economically distressed, but gentrifying inner-city neighborhood serves the interests of neutrality, the residents of Cypress Park, or the Wikipedia community.

Cypress Park is a 100 year-old neighborhood of over 15,000 residents and should not be defined in Wikipedia by a small handful of violent incidents...And as you can see by other people repeatedly deleting your posts, I am not alone in my views. Re your article on "Gulfton"

I am trying to copy edit your article, and have a question about content. In the introductory section you state: "After its transition, Gulfton gained…" but the reader does not know what transition is meant. Can you give a clue? (E.g., "after its transition around 19xx from xx to xx" ... or whatever). Best regards, --Remotelysensed (talk) 15:27, 4 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I removed the street address again of the Atlanta Store Support Center. You seem to feel strongly about stating that it is outside of Atlanta's political boundaries, which is fine, but the address is a bit much - especially in the second sentence to the article. I'm sure someone researching The Home Depot isn't interested in actual street addresses. Perhaps it belongs elsewhere in the article. Don't you think? -Sme3 (talk) 01:59, 6 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Juju (singer)

A tag has been placed on Juju (singer) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about about a person, organization (band, club, company, etc.) or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Honolulu, Hawaii

In common usage, Honolulu, Hawaii is taken to mean the urban area along the southeastern shore of Oahu, approximately from east of Pearl Harbor to the general vicinity of Koko Head; what you're calling Honolulu CDP. Note that article is a redirect to Honolulu, and states right in that article's second sentence that the word refers to the area on the southeastern shore. While it is true that the City & County of Honolulu does encompass the entire island, the term is generally never used that way. "Oahu" refers to the entire island. The post office only uses the southeastern area for what it refers to as "Honolulu", other parts of the island have their own names. For example, the mailing address for Pearlridge Center in the area north of Pearl Harbor is Aiea, Hawaii [1], and when locals would refer to the location of Pearlridge, they'd say "Aiea", not "Honolulu". The term "Honolulu CDP" is not in common use (in fact, I can't recall hearing anyone refer to anything as a CDP outside of Wikipedia), and I feel it is sufficient to refer to the location of Hawaiian Airlines' headquarters as "Honolulu, Hawaii". If the airline were headquartered on another part of the island (say, Kaneohe, Hawaii), then it would be listed as such. -- Hawaiian717 (talk) 16:51, 21 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The government organization is "City and County of Honolulu", not "Honolulu City and County". Honolulu is indeed used to refer to the municipal/county government (for example, Honolulu Police Department covers the entire island, and there is just one mayor and one city council), but when referring to physical location it only refers to the CDP. -- Hawaiian717 (talk) 17:42, 21 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading File:Silva.PNG. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. Management districts

The idea of "management districts" sounded to me to be something on the level of school districts. We don't list school districts here; is this some sort of minor civil division? MCDs always get listed, even in the rare cases that they're within cities — see all the townships of {{Marion County, Indiana}} for an example. However, for the sake of consistency with other county templates, we shouldn't list other types of government agencies any more than we should list school districts. At any rate, no I didn't realise that they have the authority to levy taxes: you didn't provide a link for such districts, so I had no way to know what they were.

As far as bits outside Houston — I didn't remove East Aldine; it's now in the unincorporated communities section. SB and Gpoint I removed because they have names that indicate Houston neighborhoods. If they're partially outside Houston, they really should be reworked into non-neighborhood articles, because that's what these two look like.

Finally, I'm not sure what you mean by "Harris County, Texas's template needs to function as a "city" template for unincorporated areas." Could you explain? Nyttend (talk) 18:44, 23 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Amami Airport / Amami-Oshima Airport

Hi, I was just wondering what your reason was for moving "Amami Airport" to "Amami-Oshima Airport". The Japanese name is Amami Airport (although it is given incorrectly in the infobox) and moreover three of the four external English links that give a name for the airport refer to it as Amami Airport. "Amami Aiport" also gets many more Google hits than does "Amami-Oshima Airport." So, I'd like to switch it back, but I wanted to check with you first and see if there was some compelling reason not to do so. (And yes, I realize you moved the article more than a year ago, but I've just recently started working on some related articles and I noticed the inconsistency in the article title.) --Shiquasa (talk) 15:18, 25 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Make Love & Peace

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Make Love & Peace, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

Unnotable manga series. Fails WP:BK and WP:N.

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. -- Collectonian (talk · contribs) 03:05, 27 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I notice you removed an entire list of notable folks from the Great Barrington entry. I can't speak to the entire list, but I can speak to the entry I added for a financier who built a well-known home there, and who was well-documented in that entry for living in Great Barrington. You recently removed a ref to Chris' Cunard Page from the article on Braemar (ship), with an edit summary of "can't be used as a source". Could you elaborate as to why the website in question can't be used? As far as I can see it's in keeping with Wikipedia's reliabile source guidelines and could therefore be used as a source (as a side note, the same website is used as a source on numerous other articles on Cunard ships, so if there's a problem with the source then those articles should also be dealt with). — Kjet (talk · contribs) 10:39, 9 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have performed a web search with the contents of China Eastern flight 583, and it appears to be very similar to another Wikipedia page: China Eastern Flight 583. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case. If you are intentionally moving or duplicating content, please be sure you have followed the procedure at Wikipedia:Splitting by acknowledging the duplication of material in edit summary to preserve attribution history.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. Dallas Public Library Databases

DPL gives free access over web with library card to tons of databases, such as ReferenceUSA and Morningstar (business info) and InfoTrac/Newsbank. Check Obama article on my user subpage for example. Anyway I would like to share this with wikiproject DFW but need help figuring out where to post. I can help trace down CITEs for articles for the DFW project. The dpl provided databases are a great 3rd party source for improving article quality and verifyability. Please reply back on my talk and delete this so I don't have to watch this page. My talk has has only you as visitor :) Spectre9 (talk) 22:13, 15 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Airliners.net information

The information is verifiable. The information is in the public Terms of Service for Airliners.Net. I don't know how much more factual you can get. There are hundreds of threads on A.Net, numerous ones (some are locked by A.Net moderators) that if read, will verify the infomation. Dfwaviator (talk) 20:23, 16 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

SomeOne I'd like to know

Wow! 100,000 edits. Found you in an old (2004) talk about naming Belgian towns. Just wanted to say hi to a real veteran. --Buster7 (talk) 12:56, 22 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

LAUSD

  • Please write something on this (L.A's mayor getting schooled) on the mayor's and LAUSD's articles. Ucla90024 (talk) 16:12, 24 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
    • Thanks. Maybe better explanation of the "Partnership for Los Angeles Schools" program is needed. Also shouldn't the program be mentioned in the LAUSD article under "Assembly Bill 1381" since the program was setup after the bill was ruled unconstitutional. Saudi Airline Building

Sorry for delay, i'll try to get it done as soon as possible i just need a permission from security guards.  A M M A R  18:27, 26 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Its some kind of useless aviation security, today the national guard handle the security of the building together with the company security staff, don't worry i'll see what we can do .  A M M A R  22:42, 26 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

RE: AMR Headquarters Photograph

Yes, I could do that for you. The best angle, in my opinion is from the south. It showcases the CR Smith Aviation Museum, which has a glass front, with a roof in the shape of an aircraft wing. Behind the glass is a mint condition DC-3. I am by that way frequently. I will gladly shoot you a picture. You can email me at dfw.embalmer@gmail.com and let me know exactly what you are looking for. One of the funeral homes that I embalm for is right around the way from AA. My mom's brother retired from AA with 35 years in Tulsa at the maintenance base. Lupin III Good Article Reassessment

As a major contributor to Lupin III, I thought you'd want to know that that article is currently under going a Good Article Reassessment as part of the GA Sweeps. The article currently fails the good article criteria, as detailed at Talk:Lupin III/GA1. Its reassessment is on hold for seven days to allow time for the issues to be addressed. Thanks. -- Collectonian (talk · contribs) 02:13, 29 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • We should mention about the only mansion, Pyrenees Castle, is located in the City. It is Phil Spector's residence and where the muder took place. The castle is hidden by tall tree and I can't get a good picture. I only can get a picture at the gate. It was built by the developer when the city was formed. The tallest building is the headquarters building of the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works, which also should be mentioned. The glass building was the former western headquarters building of Sears, Roebuck and Company which included an adjacent retail store, now a Toys R Us store. You can see the castle if you go to Google maps. Ucla90024 (talk) 03:02, 30 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • I only got a piece of the castle or just the gate. News media had shown the gate and a shot from the air. Funny I was at the Alhambra city hall/police station that evening when he was arrested. News media were all there at the front waiting. I waited for a while and got tired and left. Ucla90024 (talk) 22:01, 4 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Also the gate said "high voltage". If you look at Google map, you'll see that at the gate, there's a long, long stairway to the mansion. The top gate can see part of the guest house, which is next to the water storage concrete tank. Ucla90024 (talk) 22:06, 4 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

photo requests

in response to photo request for Delta headquarters...this would be very easy for me to do. I've been a little confused as to the wikipedia rules on photos and such. anything I should keep in mind? Deelzbub —Preceding undated comment added 16:13, 1 July 2009 (UTC).[reply]

The Devil Wears Prada

Thanks for your cleanup work on that ... I wrote that one back when we weren't as strict about sourcing as we are now, and before WP:NOVEL existed and it was unclear what form these articles were supposed to take (and how much of our own unsourced analysis we could make). It's stayed on my watchlist since then, but I just haven't had the time to bring it into compliance with our current standards. Daniel Case (talk) 06:48, 4 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Whisper, would you mind looking at this discussion and commenting? Thanks, Crum375 (talk) 23:44, 4 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Your new navbox

Hi Whisper, thanks for your help. On another topic, would you mind changing the color of that navbox to the same light blue as {{Mayday NavBox}}? I find the orange a bit too distracting. Thanks, Crum375 (talk) 04:32, 5 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

In that case, I'll fix it, and if he or someone else don't like it, I can add a color parameter to it, so that each editor can select their own color. But the best solution IMO is to have all these navboxes have the same quiet, non-distracting color. Crum375 (talk) 04:43, 5 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I fixed a couple, but unfortunately they are done improperly, so each year has to be changed individually. The correct design should be to have only the specific annual data in each template, all going to a generic annual template with the common style differences from the main navbar template. This can still be done, and I can do it myself, but it's a lot of work and I prefer to have consensus on it first. Crum375 (talk) 04:59, 5 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
OK, if they want me to, I can do it myself. I can make the main generic template, and then a couple of example years using it. But I'd like to get their OK before starting. Crum375 (talk) 05:04, 5 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I did 1999, 2000 and 2001 as examples, using a new generic template, and they seem OK to me. As you can see, this way all the template details are controlled in one place, while the annual versions just have the specifics for that year. Crum375 (talk) 07:00, 5 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Aviation templates

Hi! I see that you have expanded the project that I have created last days and I'm so happy for this. You are the best! Happy editing! TouLouse (talk) 16:52, 5 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Nice templates! Just one slight problem - using bold to denote over 50 deaths also means that the article being viewed appears in bold. That article does not necessarily have 50+ deaths. What about using bold italics instead? Mjroots (talk) 18:46, 5 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Edit summaries

Don't forget to add an edit summary (see WP:ES) as it helps other editors assess what has been done to the article. Mjroots (talk) 18:48, 5 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That's good, just takes a bit of getting used to until it becomes second nature. Something like add template is fine. Mjroots (talk) 18:55, 5 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
