Monster of Aramberri

Hello. When you said on the Talk:Monster of Aramberri page that "any currently know pliosaur exceeds 17 m" did you mean that any currently known pliosaur does exceed 17 m, or that no currently known pliosaur exceeds 17 m? Saruman IV (talk) 03:17, 27 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hey

I'm confused why my edit of why the tyrannosaurus specimen "sue" keeps getting undone when she weighs up to 9 tons minimum. I have many plausible and reliable resources. If it's a citing problem please help me with that because i'm unsure how they do it on wikipedia.

T-rex edit

That's exactly what I did. I cited the source and i put the exact information from that article into the t-rex article. Also they just changed the largest specimen (sue) length back to 40 when the museum which holds sue confirmed that she is 42 feet long.

Hey

I believe i know where i went wrong. I entered my new reference but i never deleted the reference that said that sue weighed 7.5 tons so maybe thats why people think that i'm changing the reference. If you could change the weight and the length of sue where it should be at which are 9 tons and 42 feet in length in would be greatly appreciated. Source which states sue's length: https://www.fieldmuseum.org/happening/exhibits/sue-t-rex Sources for sues weight: http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/tyrannosaurus-rex-weighed-tons-estimate/story?id=14738660

Megalodon

Hi,

The 14-18 m TL figure for C. megalodon in the wiki article is not referred in the corresponding source nor in any published paper. I dont say it's not true, I say that it s not written in the scientific litterature at all. I suggest to use maximum size of 18 m (published in Pimiento 2013), not 14-18 m, which is not a piblished figure. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Over there (talkcontribs) 07:11, 10 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Well some corrections,

Pimiento 2010 precisely uses "more than 16 m" using as reference Gottfried et al. 1996.

Gottfried et al. 1996 have not estimated a 12 m figure but a conservative max size of 16 m, a max size of 17 m, and hypothetical maximum size of 20.2 m.

Pimiento's figure of 18 m in the 2014 paper is based on her 2013 paper where she collected additionnal C.megalodon specimens from the Gatun Formation, one being estimated at 17.9 m. Using Shimada's method, not Gottfried's.

Hence, I dont understand why the 14 m figure is used here since it does not exist as a precise figure in modern publication about C. megalodon.

It appears then, based on the latest publications that the modern consensus of maximum size is 18 m, not 14-18 m.

None of the modern published methods suggest a maximum size figure of 14 m, nor in litterature, nor while applying them on teeth specimens from private collection.

So parcimony and respect of the published litterature suggests to me to not use that not referenced 14 m figure. Rather the latest by Pimiento.

14 m simply does not exist in the littetature as published figure. And it was very certainly not the maximum size for C. megalodon. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Over there (talkcontribs) 01:23, 11 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! It's Gug 01. I noticed that you made many positive edits to the article Homotherium venezuelensis, which I created. I want to thank you for that. Also, in the reference to fossilworks there is information documented in a way I cannot understand. Could you please take that information from the reference and add it to the Wikipedia article? Please do so if you can. Gug01 (talk) 22:46, 29 December 2014 (UTC) Gug 01[reply]

I did see your edit in which you added some information from the Spanish version of the article, and I thank you a lot for that. I appreciate that edit. However, in the fossilwork reference, there is a large paragraph titled "Average measurements (in mm)". That's the information I originally wanted you to put in the article. Of course, that isn't to say I don't appreciate your edits a lot, and I want to thank you again. Gug01 (talk) 22:54, 29 December 2014 (UTC) Gug 01[reply]

Hi Rextron, I see you are a Spanish speaker. At the moment I am tackling the paleontology articles and main focus is South American fossils. Adding cats, species, refs and images where I can. Still a lot to do, but imho the section needs enhancement and further integration with other articles makes the reading more interesting. What are your experiences and activities? All the best, Tisquesusa (talk) 02:03, 5 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Great! Langstonia is a great article, I've been reading it, but saw now it was classed as "stub" which is ridiculous, so reclassed to B. Congrats on that one. The La Venta Lagerstätte is indeed very interesting and I have an article in preparation (to prepare for that I am doing all those edits), that I will share with you when it's finished, you'll see. For now, if you could throw a critical eye to two articles I have recently added, would be really appreciated. I don't translate from other Wikipedias, am starting from scratch with heavily referenced and complete articles, only using the Spanish wiki as a guideline or access to sources. The two I've added recently are Eastern Hills, Bogotá, which is in the process of FA review, and the Bogotá Formation of which I hope they will publish soon on the various other fossil fauna they've discovered in addition to Etayoa with the Muisca name bacatensis. I really think that Etayo and Villarroel and probably others deserve a page too. I've added Thomas van der Hammen a while ago. Cool to work with you and nice to see there are more Colombian geology/paleontology writers around. Saludos, Tisquesusa (talk) 03:45, 5 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  5. Arcabuco Formation
  6. Colombitherium

Cladogram consistency

Information icon Hello. I have noticed that you often edit without using an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This helps your fellow editors use their time more productively, rather than spending it unnecessarily scrutinizing and verifying your work. Even a short summary is better than no summary, and summaries are particularly important for large, complex, or potentially controversial edits. To help yourself remember, you may wish to check the "prompt me when entering a blank edit summary" box in your preferences.
Specifically, you recently reverted this edit without giving an edit summary. With this edit you contravene the result of the discussion, which was to remove the cladogram on the grounds of it failing a multitude of requirements. Should you disagree, you are welcome to explain why the application of rules should differ between aurochs (Bos primigenius) and Bos. Please maintain policy consistency and remove the cladogram until a new consensus is established. 89.206.112.10 (talk) 07:12, 21 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
