It's a Mystery

Hope all is well. Been a while since we chatted, so I shall make up for it. I decided for Black History Month/Folklore editathon to write Cameron. Partially because also she links to Morris and Bean. It's a tough one. She wrote an autobiography and never mentioned her birth surname or her mother's name. Can you imagine? But...I also ran across a reference that I have no idea what is. Maybe it's a film, which I am guessing from the threads above? I ran it's name through the British Newspaper Archive (thank you WP Library for adding that), and newspapers.com, but I find nada. Any idea if it was a program that ran on television and/or how one could access it? I also have the issue that her obit doesn't mention her death date. I found it on ancestry.com, but it seems weird that in 2020 no obit ran. Possibly because her legal name and the name everyone knew her by were different? Any possibility you can find one? She died 15 March 2020. No worries if you have no clue, or don't have time. SusunW (talk) 21:17, 14 February 2023 (UTC)

Okay, I'm already back. Maybe the TV thing is this, but it says it ran in 1986 and the national archive link says 1983. But then this says she was featured on This Is Your Life (British TV series) in 1983, so maybe it was that? However, even if they aren't the same, the This is Your Life thingy is critical. The clipping says they brought over her mom. Surely they wouldn't have introduced her mom on the show without saying her name? So...how do I find that? SusunW (talk) 21:45, 14 February 2023 (UTC)
Hi SusunW, nice to get a message from you! As usual you have both found an amazing woman and uncovered an interesting research wormhole. So you are saying she doesn't mention her mum's name in her autobiography!? How odd. I'm probably following some of the same paths, but bear with me...
  • Mother's name - hmm don't find it online. Strange also that Keep the Faith is the only obit online.
  • This is Your Life (there's a small mention of her at www.bigredbook.info/a_charitable_life.html, edit- bigredbook appears to be blacklisted so I'll paste it here just sok you can check it for research purposes) is definitely separate to the national archive program, since the former is made by ITV (TV network) and the latter by the government. It might be the thing in the link you found, hard to say. Maybe chat to or email the national archives to see if they can provide a bit more info? Good luck with it, the article seems to be coming along nicely overall :) Funny to see Gresham Road and Canterbury Crescent mentioned again! Mujinga (talk) 08:28, 15 February 2023 (UTC)
I know, weird right? I must find that video. Not only was her mom on it, the red book link says "she was greeted via a live link by her son - a musician with the pop group, Hot Chocolate". From my searches, that is Chris, but he isn't even listed in our article on the band? SusunW (talk) 13:47, 15 February 2023 (UTC)
I sent an e-mail to the dude who has the big red book cite. Asked him if he can provide a link or just tell me who her mom was. As for chatting with the National Archive, that's a racket. I backed into every link on that thread. No reference to the producer. In the chat I asked who produced it and the response was you can request a copy of the full record for £8.40 per page or hire an independent researcher. I said seriously? You are an archive and I am not asking for a transcript, just a complete citation showing the producer. Response, we have too many records to properly cite each one. o.0 You can't make this stuff up. SusunW (talk) 15:45, 15 February 2023 (UTC)
Golly SusunW I would have hoped for a less robotic response from the National Archives! Oh well - not sure what else to suggest. As for finding the video, that might be hard since it's just everyday TV from some time ago. On Hot Chocolate, perhaps he was a session musician? I am enjoying the bizarre links you are finding, it's all connected! Btw I actually just published Villa Road, which I took photos of the same day as Gresham Road - it was a different scene in the same time, more oxbridge white marxists than black community activists, but there must have been connections, not least because of Olive Morris and there were apparently british black panthers living there too... Mujinga (talk) 17:18, 15 February 2023 (UTC)
Hmm there's 'Gloria Cameron - Intro Sequence to COI Documentary "A Woman's Place" 1984' on https://vimeo.com/135938804 Mujinga (talk) 17:20, 15 February 2023 (UTC)
Oh wow! Thank you! Apparently Chris wrote, sang, and played keyboards for Hot Chocolate from 1982 to 1985 before becoming a producer for George Michael. I added a "former members" name to the article on the group. And yes, context is everything for women's bios. They link together in really weird ways. Reading about the whole trial now in her book. Figure I need context before I can even begin to look for secondary sources. SusunW (talk) 17:53, 15 February 2023 (UTC)
Good ninja edit but i enjoyed sand as well! Your research has inspired me to devote some time to the lattice of names of mediaeval noblewomen, which always gets complicated Mujinga (talk) 18:29, 15 February 2023 (UTC)
LOL. Good luck with her. I hope your research journey is easier than this one. ;) I am hopeful that continued digging will peel the onion that is Cameron's life. SusunW (talk) 18:53, 15 February 2023 (UTC)
SusunW "Lettice (or Letitia) Cary (c. 1612–1647), née Morison (or Moryson) and later Viscountess Falkland"  Done Mujinga (talk) 16:05, 16 February 2023 (UTC)

So I finished her version of the trial, but here's the next weird thing, I find nothing, nada, zip, zilch about it in any British or Jamaican papers, google scholar, or books. Not even in the Black Cultural Archives. (I even tried switching google to google.co.uk). It is as if after receiving all those accolades through 1987, after the trial happened until she published her book, there was nothing. I can't publish the article with only her side and I wonder if part of the problem is that her legal name was different? But, that said, the press would've called her Gloria, even if (especially if?) it was negative press, so I am baffled on where to look now. SusunW (talk) 17:17, 16 February 2023 (UTC)

SusunW hmm yeah maybe she was using another name, but it's weird you haven't found it yet .. I also do think it's odd that she had by all accounts a notable life, appeared on This is your life etc etc and then only had an obituary in one place!? I tried to find online archives for The Voice (British newspaper) but didn't get anywhere. Obviously there's systematic bias going on because of her race and gender, but it does seem unusual that everything dries up in more recent times. I can only wish you luck in your endeavours! As a last thought, perhaps asking for help over at WIR might throw up some more leads? Mujinga (talk) 21:32, 16 February 2023 (UTC)
I know her legal name was Florence Tina Cameron, but I don't find anything under that. I couldn't even find her MBE except in Jamaican papers. The obit called her Florence Gloria. I'm gonna try one other editor and then I'll throw it to WiR. If I could even figure out the name of the case, that might help, but I don't know how British proceedings are typically titled and every search I can think of comes up nil. I do appreciate you and your help. SusunW (talk) 22:12, 16 February 2023 (UTC)
SusunW unless the legal case set a precedent (unlikely) it'll be hard to find. If it did, it will be on https://www.bailii.org/. My knowledge here is shaky, I think cases would usually be "Last name v Last name" so "Cameron v somebody", unless it's an action by the state on her behalf (I don't even know what the case was here), then it would be "R v somebody", R being Regina as in Queen. On the MBE that is weird, since I couldn't find it either. Were you using the Gazette? I couldn't find anything for 1980 under Florence or Cameron here or here, maybe it's one year over. In any case, well done Barbara Cameron on her recent MBE though. Mujinga (talk) 09:54, 17 February 2023 (UTC)
I think it was an action by the Lambeth Council against her, but maybe it was the council against her volunteer organization. Therein lies the issue. I don't even know how to begin to search for it. She was covered a lot until she wasn't. Her organizations were not usually called by name in any press and there was no coverage that I could find in The Times, The Guardian, etc. The Evening Standard was the only major paper that ever mentioned her in the UK. Thank goodness for The Gleaner, which covers Jamaica and the Caribbean – it a real boon to have access to it (thank you WP library). And yes, I tried the official Gazette and found absolutely nothing. But there's photos of her receiving the MBE and numerous articles noted it, so I know she got it. I've asked Lajmmoore, UK Wikimedian of the year, and a researcher with access to networks that might be helpful. We'll see what happens. (The article on Barbara Cameron and coverage on Gloria Cameron shows exactly the opposite of what that camp on here that maintains an MBE isn't a big deal. For England possibly not, but it still means a lot in those places that were colonized and rarely, if ever, recognized.) SusunW (talk) 14:00, 17 February 2023 (UTC)
Tah-dah! I searched "Southwark Crown Court," "Valerie Pearlman" 1 February-28 February 1989. Had to weed through a lot, but found what I need![1], [2] ... and they did list her as Florence. SusunW (talk) 17:52, 18 February 2023 (UTC)
Aha SusunW great sleuthing that draft is really coming along! Also good job on Theodora Kroeber, I saw it on the mainpage the other day :) Mujinga (talk) 11:35, 19 February 2023 (UTC)
Thanks. The Kroeber article was a fun collaboration with Vanamonde. He did the parts I struggle with and I did the parts he struggles with, so it was a lovely joint effort. SusunW (talk) 13:37, 19 February 2023 (UTC)

Accents in sorting

Hi there, Mujinga, and thanks for taking an interest in Åse Frøyshov. I realize you are a highly experienced editor but perhaps you don't have much experience with Scandinavian articles. Unless there have been recent changes in ordering, when using Defaultsort it is usual to replace accented letters by the basic English alphabet equivalent, especially when the accented letter is at the beginning of one of the names of a person. This is because English speakers usually expect names to be listed according to the English alphabet rather than under Unicode. Please excuse me for replacing your edit. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 10:52, 1 March 2023 (UTC)

Ipigott thanks for doing that, adding the Å got caught up in the edit I wanted to make which was sorting out the double DEFAULTSORT confusion. Keep those articles about Scandinavian women coming! Mujinga (talk) 11:06, 1 March 2023 (UTC)

Hi Mujinga, hope all is well with you. As you've commented on a few FACs on my police shooting articles, I thought you might be interested in this one. I've put it up for peer review here in the hope of getting a few people to read it through and spot any issues before I take it to FAC. If you have time to read it and offer any thoughts, I'd be keen to hear them. No pressure if you're busy or not interested, though. Best, HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 12:07, 19 March 2023 (UTC)

GA

Thanks. Also how does it work for others who significantly contributed? I think B also did a lot of work on the article to improve the quality and I think they should get credit too, but I don't know the rules. CT55555(talk) 17:40, 28 April 2023 (UTC)

Nice one! It's hard for them to get "official" credit I think. You could cutnpaste the message the bot left on your talkpage and put it on B's? I think that's a nice way of appreciating their work. Mujinga (talk) 17:50, 28 April 2023 (UTC)
Hi, as I explained during the GA process and on CT55555's talk page after I was pinged, I do not feel I significantly contributed to this article and I would prefer to not be credited for this GA. This was not an article I reviewed and revised thoroughly. Thank you, Beccaynr (talk) 21:33, 28 April 2023 (UTC)

Sources for Phoolan Devi

Hello, I saw your comment that you were waiting for a review on Phoolan Devi. This is an interesting article, and I thought about opening a review, but I don't have access to all the sources. Particularly the book India's bandit queen which the article relies on heavily. Do you know if there's full text online somewhere? If not, I'm sure someone else will get around to it eventually. Thanks! Larataguera (talk) 21:47, 3 May 2023 (UTC)

Hi @Larataguera:, yes it's in the GA nominations queue with lots of other articles. I have most of the sources in pdf, or could possibly send over relevant extracts. Can I check which you are referring to, is it the Mala Sen book? Cheers, Mujinga (talk) 21:55, 3 May 2023 (UTC)

On 6 May 2023, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Helene Lecher, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Helene Lecher's presentation at the Women at the Hague conference, which Mary Heaton Vorse described as the "most moving speech of all the Congress", urged for peace? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Helene Lecher. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Helene Lecher), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Photos!!!!!

So, GRuban (and me) have been corresponding with Gloria Cameron's son, trying to get freely licensed photos of her. Turns out he is a photographer, took lots of photos in the 70s and 80s and said "I may be able to help you with some photographs for the period covering some of the projects you mention that relate to my mother, such as the buildings in Canterbury Cres and Gresham road (Abeng Centre) and general images of Brixton and community projects / events at that time". Balance person, he also said he would make contact with Gerlin Bean's daughter and see about photos of her. Fingers crossed. This could be a really helpful contact for us. Wow SusunW that's great news! Please ask about Olive Morris pretty please :) Mujinga (talk) 18:28, 16 May 2023 (UTC)
I actually went to the talk pages on Morris and Bean and copied all the locations, names, etc that we had tried to find photos of without success. He's not in the country right now, but said he'll go through his black and whites from the period and see what he can help us with, when he returns in the summer. I think it's the most promising lead we've found to get photos of the windrush generation :) SusunW (talk) 18:43, 16 May 2023 (UTC)

Hi -- I've appreciated your reviews of a few articles of mine, and I know you're interested in the Women in Red/Women in Green initiatives, so I thought I'd ask if you'd be willing to take a look at Daisy Bacon. It's at PR at the moment and has had a helpful review from Aoba47. I would like to take it to FAC, but have never nominated a biography of anyone born in the last 1,000 years, so would really appreciate another set of eyes on it before I pull the trigger. Hi -- ChristieBot's been getting occasional pings from your user talk page posts. I had a look and it seems as though you've been posting the same GA messages that ChristieBot posts, e.g. here. A guide to article creation starts here and you are correct in thinking that you need to be autoconfirmed nowadays to be able to create articles, which means being "at least 4 days old and have made at least 10 edits". Question from Underratedman (06:08, 4 October 2023)

"Hello sir, why didn't the article I edited change?" --Underratedman (talk) 06:08, 4 October 2023 (UTC)

@Underratedman it's always a good idea to tell me what specific edit and page you are talking about, do you mean this edit at Blockchain? I see you made an edit with the summary "I have added a new source article that is related to the dead link" and just one mintue later it was reverted with the edit summary "Reverted 1 edit by Underratedman (talk): Crypto blogs are not usable sources" by MrOllie - since they linked your username you probably would have got a notification about that. How to proceed? Perhaps discuss it with MrOllie on their talkpage at User_talk:MrOllie if you need more info. I can see these things not by magic but by checking Blockchain: Revision history through the "View history" tab which is present at the top of every single wikipedia page. Cheers and good luck! Mujinga (talk) 09:46, 4 October 2023 (UTC)
okay thankyou sir Underratedman (talk) 11:37, 4 October 2023 (UTC)
@Underratedman you are welcome, you don't need to call me "sir" by the way, we are all just volunteers here Mujinga (talk) 13:07, 4 October 2023 (UTC)

Question from Agrim Lamsal (14:56, 7 October 2023)

Hello Maam I am agrim from nepal. I wanted to ask how can i add a articlee. --Agrim Lamsal (talk) 14:56, 7 October 2023 (UTC)

Hi @Agrim Lamsal - wow Nepal, a country I'd love to visit one day! You might be better off doing small edits to existing articles to begin with, but I'd also suggest giving Help:Your first article a read. Happy editing! Mujinga (talk) 22:54, 7 October 2023 (UTC)

Question from Boochgone2 (22:24, 7 October 2023)

Hi are my reference in keeping with Wikipedia guidelines, and adequate to publish my article? --Boochgone2 (talk) 22:24, 7 October 2023 (UTC)

@Boochgone2 no i wouldn't say the draft in your sandbox is yet in wikipedia style - I'd advise giving Help:Your first article a read, good luck! Mujinga (talk) 22:52, 7 October 2023 (UTC)

Question from Cathaloreilly (15:14, 9 October 2023)

hi Muiinga, i wish to add myself to the page 'irish rap' with the following link information

http://www.breezysaysnetwork.com/cathal-o-reilly-potential/

thanks, cathal --Cathaloreilly (talk) 15:14, 9 October 2023 (UTC)

@Cathaloreilly hi and welcome to wikipedia! writing an article about yourself is strongly discouraged- please give Wikipedia:Autobiography a read. The problem is we all have a tendency to inflate our achievements; much better to leave it until someone else makes it then feel free to point out any errors. Question from Acerdujardin (10:41, 10 October 2023)

hello, can I edit and help on art pages? --Acerdujardin (talk) 10:41, 10 October 2023 (UTC)

@Acerdujardin you can edit wherever you like and I'd advise checking the helpful link Knitsey put on your talkpage here - User talk:Acerdujardin. It is worth remembering also that anyone can edit your edits in turn! Welcome to wikipedia. Mujinga (talk) 13:05, 10 October 2023 (UTC)

Question from FANNederland (15:04, 12 October 2023)

Hi Mujinga, I have been asked to create a simple Wikipedia page about the Female Autism Network of the Netherlands, an organisation that I work with, because we often get enquiries from people in other countries about the FANN is and what it does. The organisation is non-profit and receives no funding, it works with clinicians to improve medical care and support for autistic women, and creates materials (like books and factsheets) to support that goal. Obviously, our website is in Dutch ;-) so we understand that. It will just be a short description with references. What is the best way to start a new page? --FANNederland (talk) 15:04, 12 October 2023 (UTC)

Hartelijk welkom @FANNederland - you can check Help:Your first article but please also read Wikipedia:Conflict of interest since it's hard (but not impossible) to write about things you are involved with. Your group sounds great by the way! Mujinga (talk) 21:40, 12 October 2023 (UTC)

Question from Finewine123 (20:43, 12 October 2023)

Hello Mujinga,

I am interested in creating my first Wikipedia pages. Do you have any recommendations?

Thank you. --Finewine123 (talk) 20:43, 12 October 2023 (UTC)

Hi @Finewine123 I would actually recommend to start more slowly, add to some pages about things you are interested in, whether that be archery, polar bears or chamber music. Have fun! Mujinga (talk) 21:37, 12 October 2023 (UTC)
Hi @Mujinga How many edits or how long would you wait before attempting to create an article? Finewine123 (talk) 15:30, 13 October 2023 (UTC)
There's really no fast rules here, but at the same time I was suggesting some smaller edits first while you find your feet in a confusing new system. But whatever works, you can certainly give Help:Your first article a read. And I'll drop some more links on your talkpage (where we are now is my talkpage in wikiparlance) Mujinga (talk) 17:28, 13 October 2023 (UTC)

@Sosdos dunno who that is Mujinga (talk) 07:09, 18 October 2023 (UTC)
he is a world renowned chemist, biologist, general, rower. he has had many towns, cities, and kingdoms named after him. he is truly the best person the world has ever had the pleasure of having. Sosdos (talk) 14:59, 18 October 2023 (UTC)

Thony was a remarkable man. He truly inspired many to do what they want to do. I want to publish a full article about him, but I don't know how. What must I do? Sosdos (talk) 16:15, 18 October 2023 (UTC)
Give Help:Your first article a read and feel free to ask here if you have any specific questions. Good luck! Mujinga (talk) 18:18, 18 October 2023 (UTC)

Question from RattusMori (03:12, 19 October 2023)

How much context and description should photo captions have ideally? --RattusMori (talk) 03:12, 19 October 2023 (UTC)

@RattusMori hi and welcome to wikipedia! that's an excellent question about captions, I wouldn't sweat it too much but give WP:CAPTION a read and that should provide answers. wikipedia has a manual of style and that page covers captions. cheers and happy editing! Mujinga (talk) 09:53, 19 October 2023 (UTC)

Question from Celtiberi (20:24, 21 October 2023)

Hi, how do I create new content? I have created a script for piano called Pianoscript. I would like to create a page for it. Thanks --Celtiberi (talk) 20:24, 21 October 2023 (UTC)

@Celtiberi Hello and nice name! You can give Help:Your first article a read, but honestly if it's for a script you made, better to leave it to others .. as you'll quickly see, wikipedia frowns on promotional articles - that's covered on WP:PROMOTION. Cheers, Mujinga (talk) 21:58, 21 October 2023 (UTC)

Hello, my article was declined twice and I don't know why can you please help? --Yousefghusein (talk) 08:17, 1 November 2023 (UTC)

Question from Brandon as Top Tech (12:19, 2 November 2023)

Hello, I am interested in adding a post. My name is Brandon I am the 2 time RVIA Top Tech Challenge winner. The RVIA is the Recreational Vehicle Industry Association. https://www.rvia.org/news-insights/undisputed-top-tech-champion-brandon-galbreath-returns-defend-his-title There are many articles about this found on the internet. I was hoping to get them into Wiki. Please help me with this if you can. Thank you Brandon --Brandon as Top Tech (talk) 12:19, 2 November 2023 (UTC)

@Brandon as Top Tech that would be a bad idea - please read Wikipedia:Conflict of interest Mujinga (talk) 15:25, 2 November 2023 (UTC)
Thank you for your fast response. I appreciate and respect the COI issue. I was hoping you could, or you know someone who could create and edit a post about the RVIA and their Top Tech Challenge. At best I would hope to provide some first-hand knowledge to the creator, editor, or publisher. I so much enjoy being a part of the RV industry and community that I am hoping to generate more appreciation for it. It seams like a great idea to get it posted on Wikipedia. There are many articles about the competition and the participants. What the tasks were that made up the competition. I thought it would be a worthwhile addition to the culture of the knowledge base of this community. By no means did I intend to write, edit, or publish this myself. I do not see myself as a writer. I am looking for some guidance on how to get such a historical record into the Wikipedia database. Are you able to point me in the right direction, or assist in some way? Thank you for your help, I am sure together we can make the difference. Brandon as Top Tech (talk) 23:29, 2 November 2023 (UTC)
Ah I see, thanks for the clarification, I thought you meant to write the article about yourself but you'd like to provide info for others to do so - that's a much better idea! On wikipedia we have various projects for people to gather around shared interests - perhaps if you left a message at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Automobiles or Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Technology you might encounter someone interested to help. More generally you can be pointed in the right direction by asking a question at Wikipedia:Teahouse. Good luck! Mujinga (talk) 23:44, 2 November 2023 (UTC)
I am impressed by your rapid response. It shows you really care about your responsibilities. Thank you for the professionalism.
I really am new to this entire process. I am sorry I left you with a misunderstanding from my first question. Could you provide me with more guidance on how to approach the group? And what is Teahouse? Thank you! 97.67.244.129 (talk) 23:49, 2 November 2023 (UTC)
@Brandon as Top Tech Sure no worries it's fine to be new and good you ask if you are confused. I'll break it down a bit more. I was suggesting that if you follow the link to either Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Automobiles or Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Technology (which you do by clicking the blue link), you would land on a page where people discuss wikipedia editing on Automobiles and Technology, repectively. If you made a post there by clicking on "New section" then writing a similar query to the one you wrote to me (or copypasting it!) then saving it, someone might be interested to write the article. Alternastively if you click on Wikipedia:Teahouse that takes you to the virtual Teahouse where fellow volunteers can give you more advice if you ask a question in the same manner. Hope that makes sense now! Mujinga (talk) 23:54, 2 November 2023 (UTC)
Very much so. Thank you. 97.67.244.129 (talk) 23:56, 2 November 2023 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of Squatting in Kazakhstan

The article Squatting in Kazakhstan you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:Squatting in Kazakhstan for comments about the article, and Talk:Squatting in Kazakhstan/GA1 for the nomination. Well done! If the article has never appeared on the Main Page as a "Did you know" item, and has not appeared within the last year either as "Today's featured article", or as a bold link under "In the news" or in the "On this day" prose section, you can nominate it within the next seven days to appear at DYK. Bolded names with dates listed at the bottom of the "On this day" column do not affect DYK eligibility. Question from Bharatgarv20171 on User:Bharatgarv20171 (10:00, 3 November 2023)

I am not able to find published article in search bar of wikipedia, how to improve it ? --Bharatgarv20171 (talk) 10:00, 3 November 2023 (UTC)

@Bharatgarv20171 you have published an article on your own user page - User:Bharatgarv20171. Since your username is Bharatgarv20171 and you are writing about Bharatgarv.com, I think it's fair to assume you have a major conflict of interest. Also, for an article to be published on wikipedia it needs to be cited to reliable sources. I will put some useful links on your user talkpage, but do not be surprised if you are swiftly blocked for promotion. Mujinga (talk) 10:23, 3 November 2023 (UTC)

Question from Sharmakalpesh (05:54, 8 November 2023)

Hello,

I am a new user on wikipedia. I came on this site after visiting this link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Indian_writers

I am a writer and recently https://www.creativepool.com (A creative networking company headquartered in London, England, United Kingdom) has added me to "Top 25 Most Influencing, Inspiring and Talented Writers List". Source: https://creativepool.com/top-25/writers#. My question is that, "May I have your permission to edit and include my name with source link on this page containing List of Indian Writers: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Indian_writers.

I am new to wikipedia and need your kind cooperation, coordination and support.

Have a great day everyday,

Regards Kalpesh Sharma --Sharmakalpesh (talk) 05:54, 8 November 2023 (UTC)

Hi @Sharmakalpesh, no that link would not be enough to justify adding yourself to List of Indian writers. I would suggest giving Wikipedia:Wikipedia is not about YOU a read. Better to leave it to others to add your name, when you are in have significant coverage in reliable sources. Lots of other pages you can edit! Mujinga (talk) 08:07, 8 November 2023 (UTC)
I got your point. I think you are correct. Thank you so much for this explanation and kind cooperation. 2402:A00:404:874E:11F6:54FB:3A97:1859 (talk) 08:40, 8 November 2023 (UTC)

User page image

Hi Mujinga. I have just noticed your user page image. Very classy. I was camping and walking in that area 12 months ago, a great part of the world. Gog the Mild (talk) 20:20, 9 November 2023 (UTC)

@Gog the Mild oh wow lucky you! i love the northwest highlands and this bit around assynt is just so overwhelmingly beautiful Mujinga (talk) 18:31, 10 November 2023 (UTC)
October last year for six days and the first four were wall to wall sunshine. We camped and got right into some of the wild country. It was great. And I ticked off five summits. Gog the Mild (talk) 18:35, 10 November 2023 (UTC)
Amazing! I was going to ask if it rained haha. I was there in May doing the NC500 and had all sorts of weather, then returned in September and it was stunning. Managed both times to avoid the mozzies. I can't put my finger on exactly what it is but I feel very at home up there. Mujinga (talk) 18:41, 10 November 2023 (UTC)
I have friends who live in Fort William and they are forever quipping "Don't like the weather? Just wait an hour." We were back just south of Ullapool this late September and got three days of wind and rain followed by two of glorious sun. Did you do the whole 500? Lucky you. This September? Wow. I don't get that far north very often. Although there is a trip to Torridon planned for 16-21 December. Gog the Mild (talk) 19:06, 10 November 2023 (UTC)
The NC500 was awe-inspiring, but prob does get quite busy in the summer months. I was first thinking about cycling it and then having done it as a roadtrip, I wouldn't recommend it to cycle, the roads just aren't quite up to it. Torridon sounds lovely and as our pretty much uncited article says "is widely acknowledged as having some of the most dramatic mountain scenery in the whole of the British Isles" :) Yup this September was a good time actually it really cheered me up. The temperature was just turning, the sea was still OK for swimming and the deer were mating so there were stags all over the place in Applecross! Mujinga (talk) 19:15, 10 November 2023 (UTC)
Torridon does indeed have what is probably the most epic scenery in the UK. It is a pity that Wikipedia does not allow me to send you some pictures. And vice versa, I imagine that you got some snaps to drool over on the 500. Gog the Mild (talk) 22:54, 13 November 2023 (UTC)
Oh cool I'll have to check out Torridon, you mentioning it was the first time I'd heard of it. I'm not much of a photographer but I did get some decent shots on my tour, it would be hard not to! Feel free to email me if you like :) Mujinga (talk) 11:07, 14 November 2023 (UTC)

Huh just noticed my replies to your email got bounced back. Not sure why, but instead of mourning, I'll compile a gallery of nice pix from the Highlands that I've found on commons -

Hi @Ephraimheller, I presume you are talking about the page Ephraim Heller? You could probably get that deleted per Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons#Relatively unknown subjects. I would suggest going to the Wikipedia:Teahouse and asking your question there, other volunteers will be able to help you. Good luck! Mujinga (talk) 00:42, 18 November 2023 (UTC)

Promotion of Phoolan Devi

Congratulations, Mujinga! The article you nominated, Phoolan Devi, has been promoted to featured status, recognizing it as one of the best articles on Wikipedia. The nomination discussion has been archived.
This is a rare accomplishment and you should be proud. If you would like, you may nominate it to appear on the Main page as Today's featured article. Keep up the great work! Cheers, David Fuchs (talk) via FACBot (talk) 00:05, 19 November 2023 (UTC)

Question from Willow63 on Douglas Strachan (07:32, 19 November 2023)

Hello Why is some of the text I have added showing in red once published Willow63 --Willow63 (talk) 07:32, 19 November 2023 (UTC)

@Willow63 hi and welcome to wikipedia - regarding your edit to Douglas Strachan, the text is showing in red because we don't (yet) have a wikipedia article for Finnart St Paul's Church. If we did, it would be in blue, like the Forth Bridge. Even though the church is present at List of listed buildings in Greenock I'd advise finding a citation to back your edit to Douglas Strachan, since otherwise it might well get deleted by another user. Mujinga (talk) 10:35, 19 November 2023 (UTC)
I have a link, and also a watercolour painting of his design for the same window. Here is the link. https://www.lylekirk.org/finnart%20st%20pauls/index.htm Willow63 (talk) 15:47, 19 November 2023 (UTC)
@Willow63 it's the sort of thing where I don't doubt you are telling the truth but you need a reliable source to prove it for wikipedia notability standards. why? well someone else could for the sake of argument just be making it all up. i'd say this canmore link does the job of proving it though Mujinga (talk) 19:08, 19 November 2023 (UTC)
but that's the website of the Finnart St Paul's Church! Why would they be making it up! Willow63 (talk) 20:25, 19 November 2023 (UTC)
you honestly would not believe the scams people try to pull on wikipedia! Mujinga (talk) 22:43, 21 November 2023 (UTC)

Hello! Voting in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 11 December 2023. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

Question from Gustavmahler1904 (21:33, 29 November 2023)

Hello, sorry to bother.. I have been blocked, I haven’t understood why it happened, I suppose because I recently used a VPN and I haven’t realized I was still logged in. Could you help me out to get unblocked? I tried to do a couple of procedures, but they haven’t worked as I am not allowed to post anything… Thank you very much. Have a nice day --Gustavmahler1904 (talk) 21:33, 29 November 2023 (UTC)

Hi @Gustavmahler1904 I don't think you got blocked - I don't see any notifications regarding that. I think you just tried to edit whilst using a VPN which is not permitted by wikipedia guidelines, but absolutely ok, I accidentally do that sometimes and you get a BIG WARNING. Try editing after logging out from the VPN and you should be good. If you were blocked you'd have messages on your talkpage advising you how to proceed. Good luck and feel free to come back if you need more assistance getting going again Mujinga (talk) 12:40, 30 November 2023 (UTC)

Question from SpacedFarmer (16:13, 30 November 2023)

Hi, how do I add WP:TWINK, thanks in advance --SpacedFarmer (talk) 16:13, 30 November 2023 (UTC)

@SpacedFarmer as you can read at WP:TWINK, "If your account is very new, you will not be able to use Twinkle. You need to be autoconfirmed (at least four days old and have ten edits) to enable the Twinkle gadget." When you meet those requirements you'll be able to use it, but unless you have previous experience I would suggest taking it nice and slow to begin with. Happy editing! Question from Idrit2002 (23:37, 1 December 2023)

Hello! I would like to ask you about creating a Wikipedia page. I created a personal page (only for educational purposes) in the sandbox section. When I publish it, does it become public to other people in the internet immediately or in few days? I would be grateful if you give me some information about how does this work because I will have to create a Wikipedia page for a person soon. That is why I have to know how much do I have to wait for the page to be public or if there is any other specification. Thank you in advance! --Idrit2002 (talk) 23:37, 1 December 2023 (UTC)

Hi, how does it work? SpacedFarmer (talk) 09:49, 2 December 2023 (UTC)
Hi @SpacedFarmer how does what work? Mujinga (talk) 11:55, 2 December 2023 (UTC)
I know we already "met" above, but I've put some hopefully helpful links at your talkpage, here - User talk:SpacedFarmer Mujinga (talk) 11:58, 2 December 2023 (UTC)
Hi @Idrit2002 I would suggest reading through the copious amounts of help pages available to you via Help:Contents, for example Help:Introduction. That's great you are experimenting in your sandbox, if you want to write about Idrit Halili and your username is Idrit2002 I do wonder if you want to write about yourself? I wouldn't say that's the best idea and would advise also reading Wikipedia:Conflict of interest. Good luck and happy editing! Mujinga (talk) 12:01, 2 December 2023 (UTC)

Question from Sfar13 (02:11, 4 December 2023)

I would like to lock a page . Someone who is a supporter of the subject of the article keeps changing it so that it loses it objective tone. --Sfar13 (talk) 02:11, 4 December 2023 (UTC)

Hi @Sfar13 wikipedia is collaborative so people will always make changes to articles. Protection can be made by admins (I'm not an admin) in the case of persistent vandalism but without specific examples they won't do that. Since you are still finding your feet here, I would advise you to hear the rationale of the other editors on the talkpage for whatever article you are talking about. If you provide more specifics I could help further. Cheers, Mujinga (talk) 10:06, 4 December 2023 (UTC)

Comments on FA nomination of Education

Hello Mujinga, I wanted to let you know that I have nominated the article Education for featured article status. So far, there has not been much response from reviewers. I was wondering whether you are inclined to have a look at it. I saw that you brought several education-related articles to GA status. So if you have the time, your expertise in this field would be appreciated. The nomination page can be found at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Education/archive1. @SusunW I'm in a good mood today! I just got a "new" refurbished office chair. After weeks of googling features and bargains, I went to an actual shop and simply bought the one that felt best to sit on. Mujinga (talk) 18:07, 5 December 2023 (UTC)
I learned that lesson years ago, from a bad chair experience. My boss actually ordered me to go to an office furniture store and find a chair that worked for me. Then she bought it as an office expense. I was completely surprised how "individual" comfort is. Probably sat in over 30 chairs to find 2 options. When I retired, they gave me "my" chair and it lived with us in 3 countries before finally falling apart. I replaced it only after going to a shop and sitting in a bunch of chairs. Congratulations on your "new" equipment. May it help you to be comfortable so that you can write! SusunW (talk) 18:20, 5 December 2023 (UTC)

I could use your advice regarding a Wikipedia page that has been deleted for self-promotion. I am not related to the person of the article, but it is about an individual who has multiple notable articles online from credited institutions and universities. was curious to see how to reinstate the article and figure out what language was self promotion. --Mushmush101 (talk) 09:03, 21 January 2024 (UTC)

ah Magnolia677 just beat me to it :) Mujinga (talk) 12:37, 21 January 2024 (UTC)
Also here is a discussion that I pulled from another thread that we were talking to there's been assumptions of me creating a page but that is incorrect. Please help me rectify the situation.
I reverted your edit--twice--because the person you keep adding is not notable (ie. has no Wikipedia article). And your effort to created an article for Albert Alan was not successful. Please note WP:UNIGUIDE#Other sections and material states than inclusion is for those "meeting Wikipedia's notability standards" (ie. a Wikipedia article). I hope this addresses your concern. Magnolia677 (talk) 14:03, 21 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I never created the article for Albert Alan; that statement is false. Please check the IP address. Let's set aside assumptions and focus on a discussion style driven by data and first principles, adhering to Wikipedia's guidelines for maintaining a friendly tone. @admin
Are you suggesting that for someone to be considered notable, they must have a Wikipedia article? Being nominated as a success story by a reputable foundation for neurosurgeons or being one of the few who transitioned from homelessness to medical school doesn't qualify? He is notable at the University of Arizona and has also received a congressional award. Mushmush101 (talk) 14:10, 21 January 2024 (UTC) Mushmush101 (talk) 14:13, 21 January 2024 (UTC)
I was able to respond to Magnolia677 siding multiple articles and providing references to argue nobility. Please see below and tell me what I'm doing wrong.
Hello my dear @Magnolia677 I went ahead and updated the deletion, adding more notable articles for this individual. Below are some notable articles from the Arizona Daily Star, a reputable journal in Tucson, Arizona. They cite Albert Alan as the recipient of Tucson, Arizona's "40 Under 40 Most Influential" in the city and state. Additionally, the nonprofit Neurosurgery Research Education Foundation has declared Dr. Albert Alan a success story. Furthermore, the University of Arizona has published a piece on how Albert founded the Global Neurosurgical Alliance, which educates physicians and medical students worldwide on conducting scientific research. I have not cited other articles, but he has more, especially from the National Institutes of Health, as he is published in the NIH, a scientific peer-review system. Hopefully, these edits will remain, and please let us know. In your statement, you depicted that there were no articles and the individual was not notable. However, the references provided argue for his notability.

Question from Minephases (15:40, 31 January 2024)

Hi Mujinga. I'm lost about what to do with my edits being constantly reverted. The first time around, an anonymous user reverted my edit and I explained the changes in my Talk page when asked. I have not received a reply. The second time around, (the same article) I was advised to start a discussion in the Talk page of the article. And so I did. I posted my proposal and reasons for the proposal and got no reply. I replied to my own thread asking for insights or possible issues of my proposal and got no reply. I made a dummy edit just to call attention to my proposal in the Talk page and still no reply. Almost a week passed, in which other edits were made on the article and I thought it's about time to make my changes. My edit was reverted after 2 hours and again, by an anonymous user. I waited days for a meaningful discussion and somehow this user made me feel like my input is not even worth discussing with the lack of communication on their part. I apologize for this lengthy post but I am new to Wikipedia and now, I'm just lost. --Minephases (talk) 15:40, 31 January 2024 (UTC)

@Minephases Well you seem to be following the wikipedia style of being bold, then discussing if reverted. The problem is, sometimes people then don't discuss on the talkpage for whatever reason. We are all volunteers giving time for free, so I'd say don't be disheartened and carry on - try again to discuss, maybe ask other editors such as EmilySarah99 for more input. Perhaps there's a good reason you are being reverted, although without more context I don't see it, but if we assume good faith, the other editors must be preferring the photos the way they are. If it feels frustrating, you can always move to a different article to edit and return again in month. Hopefully the next time the collaboration will go better - I can't promise that, but it is nice when it happens. Mujinga (talk) 15:55, 31 January 2024 (UTC)
Thank you for the speedy response. I wrote on EmilySarah99's Talk page and it was there where I was advised to write on the article Talk page to discuss changes before making them/ask for a consensus. I have not received any feedback in the said Talk page and the reversion is being done by an anonymous user hence I can't reach out. Minephases (talk) 16:09, 31 January 2024 (UTC)
Yes I saw all that by checking your contributions, I meant you could ask EmilySarah99 for further input. Or simply wait a week and try again to start a debate. Mujinga (talk) 16:52, 31 January 2024 (UTC)

Question from PrattMandDo (17:50, 31 January 2024)

Hi: My friend Brian David Marshall asked me to look over his wikipedia for him to confirm accuracy. If I see somethings are off how do I suggest edits or make them? --PrattMandDo (talk) 17:50, 31 January 2024 (UTC)

@PrattMandDo I think the thing here is to remember most things added to wikipedia needs to be backed by a citation to signficant coverage in a reliable source. I'll pop some helpful links on your talkpage (User talk:PrattMandDo) now and would advise giving Wikipedia:Reliable sources a read. Good luck! Mujinga (talk) 19:58, 31 January 2024 (UTC)
