I have sent you a note about a page you started

Hello, Amitchell125. Thank you for your work on Saint James the Less, Pockthorpe. Storye book, while examining this page as a part of our page curation process, had the following comments:

Thank you for this useful article. I have reviewed it and found no issues.

I have added WikiProjects and templates to the talk page. I have added references and a Commons category to the article, plus the Churches in Norwich template. I have updated links clarifying the relationship between the former church and the current puppet company. I have re-jigged the Commons category and Wikidata page in the same way. I have also provided a photo and more details in the infobox.

I see that others have added more links so that you can expand this article - I look forward to seeing more information here. There is plenty to find in the existing references and links. Good luck.

@Storye book: many thanks for all this! Regards, Amitchell125 (talk) 20:10, 8 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You are welcome. Storye book (talk) 06:32, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your additional edits on Saint James the Less. You now have 1337 characters; you only need to add another 163 characters for the article to be eligible for DYK. Worth a try? Storye book (talk) 10:18, 10 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Storye book: I'm still busy wading through information for the article, please feel free to nominate it for a DYK once the article is a bit more substantial. Amitchell125 (talk) 10:30, 10 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
OK, but in case I forget, please let me know when you feel that the article is ready. The Commons category has some nice pictures of internal features, e.g. the war memorial. If you can think of a hook which can use one of the nice pictures, you will get extra hits when the hook appears on WP main page. Storye book (talk) 10:42, 10 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Re the mooted DYK entry: the article was started on 8 Jan, so if you want a DYK entry, we need to initiate it within a week of that date. Due to possible dateline confusions, i would suggest 6 days, I.e. 14 Jan, as our deadline. You don't need the ideal/perfect hook by then - the important thing is to meet the deadline; the DYK nomination details, such as the hook, can be adjusted after that. Hope that helps. Storye book (talk) 11:33, 11 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Storye book: The article is much improved now, so please feel free to go ahead (DYK is not my area of expertise, so if possible could you handle it?). Amitchell125 (talk) 11:40, 11 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
OK, will do. Probably later today or tomorrow. I'll let you know. Storye book (talk) 11:59, 11 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have added some bits and pieces to the article in an attempt to work up some material for a DYK hook. Really, we need some more pictures.
I have spoken to one of the staff at Norwich St Mary, who says that a lot, if not all, of the original pictures from the rood screen are there (but we need a citation for that. Was it ever mentioned in the local paper?).
I think(?) I have sorted out in my mind that the original font is at St Mary's, and that there is a copy at Norwich St Julian. And I think that the citations bear that out.
If you check the Commons category, you will see that I have attempted to crop out one of the seated-figure pinnacles from two of the exterior pictures of Norwich St James - but they are too blurry to be of any use at DYK, or even on the article.
So - is there any chance that you could get a closer picture of at least one of the pinnacles? And would it be possible for you to take pictures of the whole rood screen (if it is in one piece) and/or of more of the saints pictured on it?
I could use the font in a hook if you can confirm that I've got my facts right - and I could use the rood screen if we can get a citation that it is in Norwich St Mary at the moment. Green tickY the article uses this, p. 76 I think all this is worth the effort, because you have some interesting stuff there. I hope my request is not a nuisance to you. Storye book (talk) 17:37, 11 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the above, no nuisance at all. It's true when you say that all ten panels from St James are at SMM, I'll find a citation for that, (done, see above) or I'll get a group shot of the panels sorted. The screen that they came from no longer exists, but I can sort out images of them.
You are also correct in saying that original font is at SMM, I'll check the text makes this clear. Green tickY checked The St Julian's font is definitely not a copy though, it's just similar. The tower issue is a bit trickier, give me 24 hours! Amitchell125 (talk) 20:00, 11 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you - that's brilliant. The seated-person pinnacles are not on the tower. According to our Commons photos, one is on the gable end of the roof, i.e. at the south-west corner of the roof. See my cropped pix, and compare their source photos. Thankfully, they are a lot nearer to the ground than the tower's castellations, so I'm hoping you might get a bit of detail of the pinnacles. It would be lovely to see whether they are bishops or whatever, sitting on their cathedra - which would explain why they are sitting. I should add that we can only see one of the seated-person pinnacles in the Commons photos that we have. I am assuming that the second one is at the other end of the building, on the south-east corner of the roof - but who knows. Storye book (talk) 10:58, 12 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, Gottit. There are (or were?) three, over the south-west porch. See this pic. Storye book (talk) 11:05, 12 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
... and a fourth one on the lower part of the roof, halfway along the north side here. It follows that there may be a matching fifth one halfway along the south side of the building, but I can't find a picture which is clear enough - and those B/W pix appear to have been taken in the 30s. Tantalising ... Oh dear - this picture shows two missing from the porch. So we are now down to 1 definite and 3 possibles ... Nope - I found some more recent pix. I now think there's only one left, on the porch. I'm hoping that you will prove me wrong. Storye book (talk) 11:12, 12 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question

Hello, colleague. I would like to ask you whether it is allowed to ask reviewers to review my nominated article, or is this prohibited? With respect. Smpad (talk) 15:59, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Smpad: Hello, thanks for your message. It is not prohibited to ask for help in this way, but I think most people nominate their article and then wait, sometimes for months, for a reviewer.
I'm concentrating on other articles at the moment, but I am happy to review your article when I get enough time, perhaps in a couple of weeks. Getting an article to GA is a great way to improve the Wikipedia skills of new editor, and good editors are always needed. Good luck! Amitchell125 (talk) 16:33, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your answer! Okay, I will wait. But if you might be interested in Middle Eastern merchants, I will be very glad if you look at my article Petik and Sanos :) Although I made it good on the Ukrainian and Russian wikis, this is my first experience on the English wiki. DYK for St James the Less, Pockthorpe

On 8 February 2024, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article St James the Less, Pockthorpe, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the church of St James the Less, Pockthorpe, now the home of the Norwich Puppet Theatre, once contained a rood screen with portraits of saints painted in 1479? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/St James the Less, Pockthorpe. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, St James the Less, Pockthorpe), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Thank you today for Felix of Burgundy, introduced (in 2022): "This article is about the first bishop of the East Angles. Now largely forgotten, he was a key figure who introduced Christianity to the Anglo-Saxon kingdom of East Anglia." - Thank you also for the steady flow of GAs. I'll turn to your FAC (if I may, - others have expressed that they don't want my comments) as soon as I got Péter Eötvös a bit better referenced. Help there is most welcome, of course. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:59, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
