WikiProject Saw January Newsletter

The WikiProject Saw Newsletter
Issue III - January 2008

Happy New Year, everyone!

Not much of a newsletter for today...I just wanted to report that OfficialSaw.com's website has undergone a massive renovation and has added character profiles and trap descriptions and the like. Why am I telling you this? Because it appears that our Wikipedia articles have been used for the site! (Check out the House of Jigsaw history section for one example). So feel proud, knowing that the articles that you have worked on have garnered notice from the folks at LionsGate...

There is no need to have separate sections for manga and anime only transformations simply because the differences between the manga and the anime have already been noted in the sections above, not to mention the Dragon Ball (manga) and Dragon Ball (anime)/Dragon Ball Z/Dragon Ball GT articles already linked in the page. Besides, it cannot be said that Toriyama's depiction of the subject is different than Toei's depiction as they do indeed share similarities. Listing both depictions in a single section does not give it an "In-Universe" look, and should not be an issue regardless since Policy forbids us from making references as to what is and isn’t considered Canon because of the delicacy of the issue. All of that can be straightened out in the Dragon Ball articles I listed above.-- bulletproof 3:16 23:41, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, About your recent comments

Just read your comments on Goku's talk page. I know you are upset and frustrated, but this is not the solution. I know you worked pretty hard on this project and especially on Goku. We can still work out this issue. Please reconsider. UzEE!! 22:14, 3 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Honestly Majin, you can't let a dude like him to get to you like this. Just shrug it off and move on. -- bulletproof 3:16 23:40, 3 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
In reply to your response in UzEE's talk page, I think that if you really feel the need for a wikibreak, I suggest you take it. UzEE and I can keep an eye on the pages while you're gone. -- bulletproof 3:16 07:32, 4 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ditto. I agree with you on the policy thing. It kinda pi**es me off too. But whats worse is that we cant do anything about it. Everyday I revert tons of good edits because of the policies that are otherwise worth keeping. We get huge doses of Cruft daily, and its sad that sometimes it comes from within the project. But then I think about is that we are trying for a common goal, so lets just move on and try to reach a consensus or negotiate on the matter. I think after all you have done for the project, you deserve a break. Go ahead and relax yourself for a couple of days. Hopefully things would still be as they are. With the revision of WP:FICT and the proposed change to WP:EPISODE, there might be a few changes.  UzEE  21:23, 4 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please use more edit summaries or you may be reverted

I have noticed that you often edit without an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This is considered an important guideline in Wikipedia. Even a short summary is better than no summary. An edit summary is even more important if you delete any text; otherwise, people may think you're being sneaky. Also, mentioning one change but not another one can be misleading to someone who finds the other one more important; add "and misc." to cover the other change(s). Thanks! Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 22:20, 19 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the warning Sesshomarou. :D --VorangorTheDemon (talk) 11:42, 20 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sure. What exactly is jumbled in the opening paragraph? Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 15:00, 20 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

When did Vegeta and Bulma marry?

Someone keeps adding that in the Vegeta article without sources. Thoughts? Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 23:54, 27 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, what chapter was that in? It would be good to cite in both Vegeta and Bulma. If you know, would you like to do the honours? Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 16:59, 28 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for making those inclusions to Vegeta. I left a response back here. Since we're also using Steven J. Simmons' names (like Yamucha), I'd like to change "Pu'ar" to "Pu-erh", per the Japanese-language English subtitled DB/DBZ anime from the DVDs. Thoughts? Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 04:35, 31 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I saw your reply back on Goku. Now I'd like to see an answer on your talk page concerning the Pu'ar Vs. Pu-erh case. Thoughts? Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 05:32, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I really haven't decided on it yet. But I will say that I am totally for the manga names, and I think that Pu'ar is the manga name, so I think I'll go with that. Was Pu-erh the Simmons' spelling? --VorangorTheDemon (talk) 05:36, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh dear, I'm an idiot, you already said that Pu-erh is he Simmons' spelling. I just figure if we use the manga as our primary source, we should use the manga names to be consistent.--VorangorTheDemon (talk) 05:40, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) - Yes, "Pu'ar" is the Viz manga name but I'm 100% sure that Simmons' used the other variant (pun on Pu-erh tea). I might still be able to take screenshots for proof. Or look for a video on YouTube confirming, but the latter will be more challenging. Which do you prefer? Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 05:42, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It just doesn't make sense (to me) that we use a manga spelling for one name but a Simmons' spelling for another. Can't we just go along with Simmons on this one? Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 05:44, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
LOL, now you edit conflicted me, we're even. On the subject, it actually doesn't matter to me, but I also want consistency with name spellings. If you want to use the Simmons spellings than I say go for it. And you seem to know what you're talking about. If Pu-erh is the actual spelling of the tea, then it'll make the article more reliable, same with Yamuca, stuff like that. --VorangorTheDemon (talk) 05:54, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Kayla. I'll get the job done! {^_^} Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 06:12, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I just wanted to say that I am pretty sure "Pu'ar " is the way they write it in the manga (Viz manga ). Just incase you weren't sure on that ^.^ - Prede (talk) 03:27, 3 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, we mentioned that ;) Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 03:38, 3 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Kayla, think you could help us find an answer to this? What name do Funi's English subs for the Japanese DBZ/GT anime give for "Uub"? If you're unsure, could you ask on Daizenshuu ex? Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 05:14, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Do you have an answer? You can also reply here. Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 19:25, 17 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

From the Members

Welcome to the fourth issue of the WikiProject Saw's newsletter! Use this newsletter as a mechanism to inform yourselves about progress at the project and please be inspired to take more active roles in what we do.

Another year, and another Saw. The penultimate(?) entry to the series, Saw V, will becoming out in less than two weeks.

We would encourage all members to get more involved and if you are wondering what with, please ask. CyberGhostface 18:17, 29 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Pages Needing Cleanup
  • List of traps in the Saw film series: This article should be improved if it is to survive deletion. Look for more below.
Monthly Collaboration
  • Perhaps for the remainder of this month (and the next couple of ones) we can work on Saw V's article. I have a feeling once the film comes out the page will be filled to the brim with information, a lot of which could be trimmed. The other film articles could use some work as well.
Newsletter Challange
  • Important Right now the biggest challenge is to save List of traps in the Saw film series from deletion. There are two things that can be done. First you can go to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of traps in the Saw film series (3rd nomination) and voice your argument as to why it should be kept. Important: read over Wikipedia:Arguments to avoid in deletion discussions. Saying stuff like "Saw rules, it should be kept" will not help at all. Just as important: improving the article so it has a fighting chance. I.E. Focus less on plot of the films but more "real world" information...I.E. the traps' impact on popular culture, reception they may have received, cited comparisions and allusions to actual devices (just pulling comparisions out of thin air would be original research.
  • Try to make the character articles more encyclopedic by making them less in-universe. See Jigsaw and Amanda's articles for guidance. Also see Jason Voorhees, which is a featured article. (Obviously there is more information on Jason available than the Saw characters, but it is worth looking at to see what's considered the best of the best.) Because of the nature of the series, poorly written articles could be considered 'deletion-bait' and 'cruft'...the better written the articles, the less likely this would happen.
  • Some of the plot articles seem to be overtly long. Without bowdlerizing them, maybe we could try to make them a bit shorter and concise.
  • Try to invite more members to this project. If you know any Saw fans who are good with computers, invite them to Wikipedia. The more the merrier.

WikiProject Saw September 2009 Newsletter

The WikiProject Saw Newsletter
Issue V - September 2009
Member news
  • The project has currently 31 members, a mere 2 member growth over last year :( encourage new members!
From the Members

Welcome to the fifth issue of the WikiProject Saw's newsletter! Use this newsletter as a mechanism to inform yourselves about progress at the project and please be inspired to take more active roles in what we do.

It happens once a year... the Friday before Halloween... yes, the sixth Saw is less than a month away from release. Seeing as there is already a director and writers attached (See Here), VI will most likely not be the final entry to the series. Saw VI will be released in theaters on October 23rd.

Also, a Saw first, a video game is coming to join the Saw family. Not based on any movie in particular, the game has an original story set between the first and second Saw films. The game will release alongside Saw VI in October.

We would encourage all members to get more involved and if you are wondering what with, please ask either user CyberGhostface or user GroundZ3R0 002, they are more than happy to direct your help into any part of Saw that needs it.

Article News
  • The Saw (video game) article has reached a 'C' class on the quality scale for all Wikiprojects that has it in their scope. A new high for upcoming Saw products and upcoming video games in general.
  • Saw VI has received an official plot synopsis which has been incorporated in the article.
  • The amount of articles in the scope Wikiproject Saw has greatly increased from roughly 23 (active) articles to 40, almost double in one year!
Pages Needing Cleanup
  • Seeing as how we lost List of traps in the Saw film series, we must form together to prevent the other articles getting the same treatment.
  • All real-life actors or directors associated with Saw (James Wan, Tim Palen, Tobin Bell) could use an overhaul to avoid "in-universe" writing perspectives.
  • Saw VI could always use formatting updates and touch-ups to grammar, punctuation, etc.
Monthly Collaboration
  • Not a big surprise, we need to focus on getting the Saw VI article up to par with the rest of the articles. Obviously because it has not been released, it won't be possible to make it as good as the other film articles, but it could still be improved. Try to make its article in the same format (Plot, Cast, Production, Promotion, etc.) as the other films for a start.
Newsletter Challenge
  • Update all Saw articles to include updated information referencing other Saw articles. For example, update the Saw (2004 film) article section on the Saw game for updated release and info.
  • Create an "Impact In Popular Culture" section on Saw articles, seeing as how it is the highest grossing horror franchise in history (before and after inflation).
  • As noted above, the Saw Wikiproject has only grown by two members in an entire calendar year. So, invite new members, show them the ways, and let them know how they can help.
  • The Saw Wikiproject has encountered a drought as far as updates and new information goes. Keep adding new Saw articles as they go along, give new information, and keep the page going in general.

Saw

Hello there, I noticed you are a member of the Saw task force, and therefore have foreknowledge of the Saw series, making you an editor with qualifications to review an article under the scope of Saw. I hope am I not bothering your editing, but I would like to bring to your attention that List of Saw media is currently being reviewed for a possible featured list status, but there is currently a major backlog in the amount of articles waiting to be reviewed. I would like to encourage you to participate in the discussion, found here, if you are interested. If you believe I am disrupting your editing or that my message was an attempt to sway your opinions per WP:Canvas, please let me know so I may fix my methods of bringing this conversation to editors attention, I am simply trying to prevent a backlog on the WP:FLC page. Happy edits, GroundZ3R0 002 (talk) 05:41, 22 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of List of minor characters in the Hannibal series

The article List of minor characters in the Hannibal series has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

This is not a true list (none of the characters have articles even) and is an essay about a non-notable subject / WP:OR from several movies and books (e.g.,Hannibal (novel)).

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Disney/Quasimodo listed at Redirects for discussion

An editor has asked for a discussion to address the redirect Disney/Quasimodo. Since you had some involvement with the Disney/Quasimodo redirect, you might want to participate in the redirect discussion if you have not already done so. Steel1943 (talk) 21:27, 26 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
