A tag has been placed on File:Lee Cruce.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image page for a missing or corrupt image or an empty image description page for a Commons-hosted image.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. @Gerda Arendt: I appreciate the kind words Gerda, but I think I'll stick around. I'm having some maddening health and health insurance issues, which I explain in detail at my Commons talk. I'll get through it though. Take care, and have a good Xmas & New Year. INeverCry 21:42, 16 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

And may your holidays be merry and bright . . . . Cheers. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 16:19, 22 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Dirtlawyer1: I wish you and yours the very same. I hope you'll have a successful RFA 2 in 2016 as well, if you decide to go for it again. You deserve it, and the admin tools definitely make editing here better in many ways. I always got a lot of good feeling from protecting the community from trolls, socks, and vandals, and cleaning up spam and other garbage. I ended up with about 350,000 log actions as an admin between here and Commons, and I enjoyed about 99.99% of it. Resigning after being taken to Arb here, and being de-sysopped on Commons take up most of the other .01%... INeverCry 22:14, 22 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Good grief -- 350,000 actions?? You were committed! I'm undecided on whether to go through RfA 2; we'll see what 2016 brings. My primary goals are to advance another dozen targeted articles to GA, and at least one more to FA. Hopefully we will see more of you in the new year. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 22:32, 22 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, the 350k log actions makes me one the top ten most active admins in WMF history. I also did 10,000 checks as a checkuser, which is up there at the top too. I had to do something so people wouldn't notice my measly 1 GA, 2 DYKs, and 1 FP on Commons... INeverCry 22:51, 22 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Commons unblock

Hi. I've been unblocked some time ago and I noticed that you've blocked me on Commons. I'm not aware of anything wrong I did on Commons that would lead to me blocked. I would like it if you or another Admin unblocked my Commons account since I would like to have my username changed to something else and so that I can upload some files that I created. Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dy11111 (talkcontribs) 20:32, 7 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I'm no longer an admin on Commons, so I can't unblock you myself. I've commented at your Commons talk. A current Commons admin will review your unblock request when they have time. INeverCry 21:34, 7 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Typefaces

Hi, INC. I want to use a Gothic or Blackletter typeface for one phrase in an article I'm planning, but I'm having trouble working out how to do it. The best I can manage is this:

.

Unhappily it suffers, at least on my monitor, from having the last word raised slightly above the others. I can see no reason for this. Any ideas on how to fix it, or alternative ways of producing a similar script? --Antiquary (talk) 15:46, 10 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Antiquary: Here it is straight and even:

<math>\mathfrak{The}\,\mathfrak{Wardour}\,\mathfrak{Manuscript} .</math>

INeverCry 17:53, 10 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Bonzer! I knew you'd have the answer. --Antiquary (talk) 20:17, 10 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
It comes from many hours spent fucking around with how my name displayed at the top of my userpage, how much of a shadow my signature had, and other important things like that. INeverCry 02:41, 11 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I suppose there's no way of getting another Blackletter font, is there? The brand of Fraktur above is close to what I want, but just a bit too clean. Something more florid like Old English would suit me better. Here's the context. --Antiquary (talk) 09:20, 11 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
You could have it a little different, like 𝕿𝖍𝖊 𝖂𝖆𝖗𝖉𝖔𝖚𝖗 𝕸𝖆𝖓𝖚𝖘𝖈𝖗𝖎𝖕𝖙 ({{SMP|de-Latf|𝕿𝖍𝖊 𝖂𝖆𝖗𝖉𝖔𝖚𝖗 𝕸𝖆𝖓𝖚𝖘𝖈𝖗𝖎𝖕𝖙}}); otherwise you have <span style></span> and unicode fonts, but these tend to display differently, or even as a plain Aerial font, in various browsers. You could create a .png or .svg of the title in Old English, but rendering in different browsers would probably be an issue too. There may be another way, but I don't know of it. INeverCry 18:20, 11 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I see the problem – your example doesn't come out on my browser. Different editions of Ivanhoe use different fonts, whatever the printer had handy I suppose, so WP's Fraktur comes within the acceptable range. --Antiquary (talk) 09:49, 12 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Your safest bet is either the Fraktur or a .jpg image of a title page with a font you prefer. The .jpg would probably be the safest; I doubt there are any browsers still in use that can't display a .jpg (and if there are, the users deserve to be in the dark). As for Fraktur, it works in Opera, which is promising, because Opera isn't very good with fonts, etc (though it does render my 2nd example properly as well). INeverCry 18:09, 12 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
No, jpg is no use to me if I understand you aright. The problem is that my Blackletter phrase has to come in the body of the text itself, thus:
Sir Arthur Wardour later appeared in the fictional Laurence Templeton’s Introduction (or “Dedicatory Epistle”) to Scott’s Ivanhoe. There Templeton, the ostensible author of the novel, tells us he has based “his” story of Ivanhoe on a medieval manuscript owned by Sir Arthur, who guards it jealously while being unable to read a syllable of it, and who insists on Templeton referring to it in pompous Blackletter type as As the novel progresses Templeton several times refers back to this manuscript.
So Fraktur it is. --Antiquary (talk) 09:17, 13 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
"An emphatic mode of printing"... My Oxford World's Classics edition of Ivanhoe gives the title in an Old English script that isn't all that different from the Fraktur in the lower case, but the capital letters are more elaborate. Fraktur gives the general idea well enough though. INeverCry 18:04, 13 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Gerald Durrell

If I've read the info correctly, I believe you placed a photo of Gerald Durrell in that article's infobox, saying that it is fair use. A complaint has been raised on the Talk:Gerald Durrell page about the usage, allegedly from the widow of the photographer who wants credit, which wikipedia doesn't usually give. Would you like to check it and out and see what you think? - DavidWBrooks (talk) 16:49, 30 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@DavidWBrooks: She sounds legit to me, so I've added a note to the source field indicating the author. Others might require OTRS confirmation of the account's identity and the copyright holder info, but I'll leave that to OTRS members or admins. As far as I know, the image conforms to fair use policy, and I've uploaded 100+ of these here and another 100+ at ru.wiki with no issues. I wouldn't be at all upset to see it deleted though. The use of the image at List of people from Jharkhand has no rationale, and wasn't done by me. INeverCry 18:47, 30 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Trollope redux

Thanks for the link to the new Miss Mackenzie article. I haven't read the novel, so I can't add anything of substance to the article. I've done some minor tweaks to it: removed contractions, of which MOS disapproves; fixed one typo; and added an EL to the University of Adelaide's HTML version, which is a bit more user-friendly than the archive.org version.

An article on The Bertrams could well make GA; there's a lot of interesting material in it. First, it gives a view of Trollope's earlier opinions on religious subjects, which had changed significantly by the time he wrote The Vicar of Bullhampton; see Picton (2007), which I cited in the Vicar article. Sources suggest that there's also a certain amount of autobiography: as I recall, they said that Trollope wasn't happy about his own prolonged engagement; in the novel, Caroline Waddington's insistence on a long engagement to George Bertram is productive of much unhappiness; and, if I'm remembering correctly, Bertram and Harcourt-née-Waddington's marriage takes place on Anthony and Rose's wedding day.

Unfortunately, it's been years since I've read the book—I had to sneak a look at the plot summary that I wrote in December 2011 just to get the characters' names. My Wikitime's been sadly limited of late, and it's all being used for some other projects that're very slowly moving forward. If you can do a decent article on Bertrams, it'd be better than a really terrific article that I never get around to writing. If you really want to dig into the subject and try for a GA, I'd definitely consider reviewing it (or at least giving it a pre-review looking-over, as you asked me to do for George Crabbe). — Ammodramus (talk) 19:15, 15 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Trollope also shows his distaste for long engagements in The Claverings, when Florence Burton puts Harry Clavering off and almost loses him to Julia Brabazon. I only really enjoy writing short articles without much of the critical reception stuff. Critics generally drive me nuts. And in the time it takes to write a GA, I could be reading another novel... Mistaken block on commons?

Can you please explain why I am blocked on commons? I don't know how to appeal blocks on there, but I've never vandalized. Today an IP (who is currently blocked on English wikipedia, see here:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/72.64.2.99 has been harassing me and User:Widr on our talk pages, presumably because they didn't like the edits I made to Eric Stuart today. Every edit I've made on commons has been actually reverting vandalism, I promise. Check the history. Sro23 (talk) 02:29, 16 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like the IP played his game well enough. I've done the rangeblock on Commons that Elockid did here for the IP, and I've unblocked you and hid the block log entry so as not to dirty your name. My apologies. INeverCry 05:37, 16 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Russian?

In The Gambler (Prokofiev), I'd like to know what the second image (round) shows, - looking like a memorial plaque. - In general: many of the articles on Russian opera list the premiere cast, and it would be nice to know if singers have a Russian article. I have no way of knowing, because the Russian Wikipedia doesn't follow that pattern. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:11, 9 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Gerda Arendt: The image shows the back of a 100 ruble coin commemorating the 1st performance of The Gambler at the Bolshoi Theatre , Moscow, in June, 2001. It just says Bolshoi Theater at top and The Gambler at bottom. The Russian Wikipedia category for operatic singers is Категория:Оперные певцы и певицы. If you want to see if a certain singer has an article at ru.wiki, you could look at Category:Opera singers here, find the article, and then check it for ru.wiki interwiki. lNeverCry 21:39, 9 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, very helpful. I am asking about singers who don't have an article in English because if they have one in Russian we could write ill|ru|name in English|name in Russian, to help translations, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:06, 10 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
They may not all have articles though: from what I'm seeing in Russian, Olga Guryakova (Ольга Гурякова) played Polina, but no ru.wiki article... You should switch to something easy like Olympic Hockey or Association Football... lNeverCry 10:03, 10 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Asian 10,000 Challenge invite

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 04:51, 20 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi

Excuse me if I have not written to you but I was in France, I did a lot of good pictures (I think). Hello, a hug.--LivioAndronico (talk) 21:30, 27 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi old friend. I wish I had a nice and peaceful county to vacation in. Here we can go to Canada, where it's freezing cold, or down to Mexico, where cities like Juarez or Tijuana are full of drug cartel people. But wherever I go, there I am anyways. I'll look forward to your photo work. A hug and a handshake. Ciao. lNeverCry 03:35, 28 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Europe 10,000 Challenge invite

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 09:05, 6 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open!

Hello, INeverCry. Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.

This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2016 election, please review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 22:08, 21 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Downgrading of Lady Constance Malleson to Start class from B/C rating

Hello! Thank you for taking the time to assess the Lady Constance Malleson page. I'm hoping to get more direction about your assessment. Based on your evaluation you downgraded the page from a C because it has a one sentence lead. This is my first time seeing something like this happen, so I'm hoping you can expand on the comment. In particular, how the rest of the page and its quality was factored in. Is the short lead the only issue keeping it from a higher quality rating?

The Start assessment criteria for the pages within Women's History Project state that Start articles are "quite incomplete". I don't believe that statement reflects the current version of the Malleson page. There is definitely room for improvement, as rightly noted on the talk page, but it's far from incomplete compared to the stub version of the page. Any additional input you can provide would be appreciated. Thank you! --Dnllnd (talk) 19:08, 27 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Please accept my apologies - I see now that I should have responded on the Project talk page. --Dnllnd (talk) 19:14, 27 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I've responded. My assessments are a product of the way articles were rated in 2009 to 2013, which is when I was active here. I'm actually surprised they haven't phased the whole thing out yet. lNeverCry 09:45, 28 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Commons deletion request

Hi. I just deleted a userpage you tagged with U5; could you in return action this deletion request for the photo in it? I'm not sure of an appropriate Commons speedy criterion, but I think it ought to be gone quickly. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 23:13, 8 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

You've done fine with the DR. Scope deletions for personal images aren't done speedily unless it's an uploader request. I resigned as an admin anyways, so I couldn't delete this if I wanted to. lNeverCry 23:23, 8 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

New Page Reviewer

Hello INeverCry. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers" user group, allowing you to review new pages and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or in some cases, tag them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is a vital function for policing the quality of the encylopedia, if you have not already done so, you must read the new tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the various deletion criteria. If you need more help or wish to discuss the process, please join or start a thread at page reviewer talk.

  • Be nice to new users - they are often not aware of doing anything wrong.
  • You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted - be formal and polite in your approach to them too, even if they are not.
  • Don't review a page if you are not sure what to do. Just leave it for another reviewer.
  • Remember that quality is quintessential to good patrolling. Take your time to patrol each article, there is no rush. Use the message feature and offer basic advice.

The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In case of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, the right can be revoked at any time by an administrator. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 11:38, 18 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

FP vs. FP

Hi there,

I see you're active on both Commons FPC and enwiki FPC. I see a few discussions on the talk page about the differences between them, but it seems to boil down to "more emphasis on encyclopedic value on enwiki". Those conversations are also several years old. Wondering how you personally approach them differently. Thanks. — Rhododendrites talk \\ 21:35, 15 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Rhododendrites: The differences are substantial. Wikipedia FPC is EV-based, has less participants, and the images aren't subjected to the level of artistic, or technical scrutiny Commons FPCs are. On Commons you have professional photographers like Colin and others who have an extensive knowledge of composition, exposure, post-processing, photographic technology, etc. My voting here is EV-based, though the image has to satisfy me visually to a certain extent. On Commons, I'm more strict and discerning. I want to see WOW! at Commons FPC.

My knowledge of digital photography is limited though, so I often wait to see what Colin and others say about an image before voting. My background is as a printer in a private photo lab in the 80s to early 2000s. I still think like a film photographer, and miss my Minolta XE7 and Mamiya RB67, along with the manual Noritsu machine I printed all my old work on; a printer with which I printed while looking through masks directly at the negative, usually 120/220 film, and judging how many stops of density to add or subtract by eye. I retired due to disability in 2002, when the 5,000$ price of the Nikon D1X was still keeping many photographers in film.

A lot of the time, though, I just vote according to how the image strikes me, and general knowledge of composition, exposure, etc. Colin's mastery of digital photography always amazes me, as does that of David Iliff and Diego Delso (Poco a poco). There's more of a wow factor on Commons. You'll often see FPCs that're of undeniable professional quality. Not that you don't get that here, just not nearly as much. I've been missing Adam Querden's restorations on both sites. I'll stop here, before I'm forced to build a moat around my wall of text... lNeverCry 03:26, 16 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

That makes sense. So I presume that, for two examples, you probably would not support the windmill I just nominated here if I had nominated it on Commons (it's rather straightforward), and probably wouldn't have supported W.carter's File:Eight windows wrapped in plastic.jpg if it were nominated here (heavier on the artistic/technical side than the encyclopedic side).
I feel semi-confident enough to weigh in on some VIs (and perhaps FPC here, since I find EV straightforward enough), but not on Commons FPC/QI at this point. I'm pretty new to thinking critically or technically about photos, but seem to have dived in in the past year. Growing up, I was never really exposed to photography as anything but a way to store family memories on 4x6 in an album. I'd fiddled with Photoshop on occasion since the mid-90s (not competently, and exclusively for graphics/animation), but didn't start taking pictures with any regularity until I managed a deal on a sweet 5MP Sony DSC-V1 floor model deal while working at an electronics store 10+ years ago. :) Appreciated the increased quality of recent phone cameras, but as I realized I enjoyed contributing images to Commons, QIC kicked my cell phone picture-taking butt, so I got a better camera last year and slowly learning. I wish that I had used film cameras more in the past, but realistically, I don't know if I'd have the patience to move in that direction beyond just trying it, sadly. — Rhododendrites talk \\ 17:30, 17 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Rhododendrites: It's all about doing what you enjoy and what comes naturally to you. Forcing things never works. Just make sure you go at your own pace and never hurry yourself. Hurrying and forcing yourself are a disease.

You might have a look at Flickr2Commons. This tool allows you to transfer hundreds and even thousands of free images from Flickr to Commons. I've transferred about 40,000 myself, and out of those so far I've gotten my 1 FP and some VIs. Or you can help sort through Category:Media needing categories, which contains well over 1 million images, some of which are real hidden gems. lNeverCry 21:18, 17 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds like good advice. I use Flickr2Commons from time to time. When I first discovered it I went a little nuts, uploading about a thousand images in short time. The USFWS Flickr streams are my favorite. Some of the big government entities seem to have quite a substantial WikiCommons fanbase, as it seems like even those which had just been uploaded were already on Commons. :) These days I find I have too many of my own images to work through to browse -- unless there's something in particular I'm looking for. — Rhododendrites talk \\ 17:33, 18 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Happy Holidays!
Just got back from work, and now I've got the best part of a week off. So, as this great festival of our shared religion approaches let me wish you a very happy Thomas Gray's 300th birthday. He came for all mankind. Thanks for mentioning your poetry audiotape collection, but I've built up a pretty substantial one of my own against the day when I'll need it, and there's no reason to think that'll be any time soon. As for homemade bread, you could always get a breadmaker yourself, though I warn you that if you do you won't be able to eat supermarket bread ever again. New Page Review - newsletter No.2

Hello INeverCry,
A HUGE backlog

We now have 813 New Page Reviewers!
Most of us requested the user right at PERM, expressing a wish to be able to do something about the huge backlog, but the chart on the right does not demonstrate any changes to the pre-user-right levels of October.

Hitting 17,000 soon

The backlog is still steadily growing at a rate of 150 a day or 4,650 a month. Only 20 reviews a day by each reviewer over the next few days would bring the backlog down to a managable level and the daily input can then be processed by each reviewer doing only 2 or 3 reviews a day - that's about 5 minutes work!
It didn't work in time to relax for the Xmas/New Year holidays. Let's see if we can achieve our goal before Easter, otherwise by Thanksgiving it will be closer to 70,000.

Second set of eyes

Remember that we are the only guardians of quality of new articles, we alone have to ensure that pages are being correctly tagged by non-Reviewer patrollers and that new authors are not being bitten.

Abuse

This is even more important and extra vigilance is required considering Orangemoody, and

  1. this very recent case of paid advertising by a Reviewer resulting in a community ban.
  2. this case in January of paid advertising by a Reviewer, also resulting in a community ban.
  3. This Reviewer is indefinitely blocked for sockpuppetry.

Coordinator election

Kudpung is stepping down after 6 years as unofficial coordinator of New Page Patrolling/Reviewing. There is enough work for two people and two coords are now required. Details are at NPR Coordinators; nominate someone or nominate yourself. Date for the actual suffrage will be published later.

Emmanuel Navon - previously deleted Talk page

Greetings @INeverCry:. I found the notability of the page Emmanuel Navon being discussed at WP:Teahouse#Notability and references. As I wish to post my remarks on Talk:Emmanuel Navon - that presently nonexistent page directs me to contact you as having deleted a previous version of it in 2013. Kindly advise me further, as I'm interested in obtaining more background on the matter. -- Cheers, Deborahjay (talk) 13:15, 9 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Deborahjay: My deletion was a speedy deletion via G11/G12, meaning the creator (someone connected to Navon or a paid promoter of some kind) copy and pasted promotional material from another site. The talk page automatically went with it. I doubt that 2013 deletion would have any bearing on the present article. I can't really give you more than that. I resigned my administrator right in July of 2013, so I can't look at the original version of the page I deleted. I did a lot of deletions though, and with a high degree of accuracy, so that G11/G12 deletion was almost certainly spot-on. lNeverCry 01:36, 10 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@INeverCry: Thanks for the explanation. A Teahouse respondent meanwhile created the Talk page as-is and I've added my response there. The subject has been more notably active in recent years, and the focus now is getting its main writer, an SPA contributor, to work according to WP:BLP. I've been giving some attention to a number of these recently since discovering the WP:BLP/Noticeboard, certainly as a learning process for myself. -- Deborahjay (talk) 07:35, 10 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

One Question

Hello. I am not a native speaker of English. I have a question: "If the person and his wife died. And their children are alive". Then what should we right in simple sentence? And what should we write, if the person died and his wife and children are alive. I writes in first case: "X is died in (year) and he has Y children.". Show me all possible sentences if possible. British Ultrafest article

HI. I havent logged into wikipedia for some time and there are number of page deletions suggested and or enacted including the British Ultrafest. I would like to recreate the page as it hosts occasional ultramarathons and multiday races still. These long distance running events are very few and far between on the ultradistance running calendar and the 6 day race was the last event of its kind in the last 30 years in the UK and more such events are in the pipeline including the recent (April 1st 2017) 24/12/6 hour races. The BUF is not a profit making company but a group of runners who provide an opportunity for runners around the world to come together and participate in serious running challenges. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Abichal (talkcontribs) 15:13, 20 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

New Page Review - Newsletter No.4

Hello INeverCry,

Since rolling out the right in November, just 6 months ago, we now have 813 reviewers, but the backlog is still mysteriously growing fast. If every reviewer did just 55 reviews, the 22,000 backlog would be gone, in a flash, schwoop, just like that!

But do remember: Rather than speed, quality and depth of patrolling and the use of correct CSD criteria are essential to good reviewing. Do not over-tag. Make use of the message feature to let the creator know about your maintenance tags. See the tutorial again HERE. Get help HERE.

Stay up to date with recent new page developments and have your say, read THIS PAGE.

Smit Trivedi

It meets all criteria and no need for deletion.Smithtrivedi (talk) 18:36, 25 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I disagree. I don't think the subject meets WP:GNG. But that's up to the reviewing administrator to decide. I'm just a regular editor like you, so I have no power to delete any page myself. lNeverCry 18:39, 25 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you! :-)

And now I don't care to work over here. Got tired of the squabbles re: infoboxes; some articles without them are hit over and over again with the idea that it should have an infobox. The arguments drag on & on and while they're going full-tilt, you're pulled away from what you were trying to do time and again. A huge waste of time and effort, so I just stopped doing text work.

Had hundreds of film posters and lobby cards archived and it came to the point where it was either do something with them or delete them. That's what I've been doing at Commons rather than just delete them. While I've uploaded a lot, there are still plenty more to go. Hope all's well with you too! We hope (talk) 01:35, 29 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@We hope: Wikipedia can be like that. Here's one of my own favorite squabbles (it went on on both their talks as well). Then you have my lynching at Arbcom over this unblock of Maleus that led to me resigning as an admin here. I like a squabble now and then though. That's why I had it out with the crappy Commons bureaucrats and their mindless steward servants. But I still manage to enjoy things somehow, though my health isn't wonderful. The computer takes my mind off of it a bit. As for the infobox thing, I added one to an FA once just for shits and giggles. You can imagine the great reaction... lNeverCry 05:41, 29 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Don't do that

You don't get to accuse someone of "neo-nazi/racist leanings" with no evidence. I've removed that vote. If it is reinstated without evidence, I will block you indefinitely. WTF. --Floquenbeam (talk) 21:06, 6 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Floquenbeam: He originally accepted as his nominator (in his first RFA) a known neo-nazi (Jonas Vinther) who primarily works on getting nazi articles to GA and FA. This concern was brought up during the first RFA. Now I bring it up, and you threaten to indef block a former admin with more than 1 million global edits without even asking me for any needed clarification? I see it as a valid concern. I used to be an admin, and I certainly wouldn't have accepted as my nominator a person like Vinther, who hid all his nazi regalia right after the failed RFA. But if you feel like bullying me just like Kww, Prodego, and Risker did to get me to resign my adminship in 2013, that's up to you. I would also point out that I used the word probable. I did so because of his acceptance of Vinther as his nominator. Your warning here and the removal of my vote is an over-reaction. There were several votes based on this concern in the first RFA; nothing was removed, and no 9-year trusted users threatened with an indef block. They weren't asked "what the fuck?" either, which isn't the way an admin should address anyone on this wiki. lNeverCry 21:22, 6 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
You kind of lose the moral high ground lecturing people about how they should and shouldn't address others, when you just called someone a probable neo-nazi/racist with no evidence. I don't know what you're taking about with people getting you desysopped in the past, but if you were still an admin, yes I'd consider trying to get the bit removed. Luckily you aren't. --Floquenbeam (talk) 21:34, 6 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Take a step back here guys. You are both veteran editors with a high quality contribution history. I think Floquenbeam has a point in regards to evidence but an immediate threat to block a veteran editor indefinitely without first acknowledging that there may be a reason for such a comment is way over the top. Also, I agree with INeverCry in regards to the usage of 'WTF' - it wasn't very civil. Thank you. -=Troop=- (talk) 21:45, 6 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Floquenbeam and Trooper1005: I'm simply repeating a concern that was voiced in the first RFA, but I get threatened with an indef block, even though I've never been blocked in almost 9 years of editing. How can I be threatened with a block for repeating a concern that was allowed to be used by several opposers in the first RFA? Is that fair treatment? Anyways, I'll stay away from that RFA and move on with the work I was doing. lNeverCry 21:51, 6 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

New Page Reviewer Newsletter

Hello INeverCry, thank you for your efforts reviewing new pages!

Backlog update:

  • The new page backlog is currently at 18,511 pages. We have worked hard to decrease from over 22,000, but more hard work is needed! Please consider reviewing even just a few pages a a day.
  • Some editors are committing to work specifically on patrolling new pages on 15 July. If you have not reviewed new pages in a while, this might be a good time to be involved. Please remember that quality of patrolling is more important than quantity, that the speedy deletion criteria should be followed strictly, and that ovetagging for minor issues should be avoided.

Technology update:

  • Several requests have been put into Phabractor to increase usability of the New Pages Feed and the Page Curation toolbar. For more details or to suggest improvements go to Wikipedia:Page Curation/Suggested improvements
  • The tutorial has been updated to include links to the following useful userscripts. If you were not aware of them, they could be useful in your efforts reviewing new pages:
