User talk:Govvy/Archive1

Welcome to Wikipedia!

Hello Govvy/Archive1, welcome to Wikipedia!

Here are some tips:

If you feel a change is needed, feel free to make it yourself! Wikipedia is a wiki, so anyone (yourself included) can edit any article by following the Edit this page link. Wikipedia convention is to be bold and not be afraid of making mistakes. If you're not sure how editing works, have a look at How to edit a page, or try out the Sandbox to test your editing skills.

If, for some reason, you are unable to fix a problem yourself, feel free to ask someone else to do it. Wikipedia has a vibrant community of contributors who have a wide range of skills and specialties, and many of them would be glad to help. As well as the wiki community pages there are IRC Channels, where you are more than welcome to ask for assistance.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask me on my talk page. Thanks and happy editing, Alphax τεχ 06:20, 1 February 2006 (UTC)

Image:Formular one genesis.jpg listed for deletion

An image or media file that you uploaded or altered, Image:Formular one genesis.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion. Please look there to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. Deletion of your own images

For some of the images you have uploaded, you have indicated on the talk pages that you want to delete them. You can do this by adding {{db-author}} to the image and an admin will come along and delete it pretty soon. Note that it should not be used for anything that you didn't submit yourself. --86.129.138.39 21:50, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

Fair use rationale

Hi, I've replied to your question on my talk page. Combination 23:18, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

Because some players had the leaving dates, and some didn't - it looked messy. Plus, for players who were at Tottenham more than once (fore example Jürgen Klinsmann), it looked even messier. Also, the full Tottenham data should be in their individual articles, so it is not that important to have them copied into the Tottenham article too. Finally, the section is about the most notable Tottenham players, and the dates are not important themselves, but are only used to sort the players from each other. Poulsen 17:59, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

Well, that is hard for me to know when you don't say so, isn't it? If you think that including the leaving dates are crucial, then I suggest you gather all the information needed before inserting it, so it doesn't look half-finished. But you have to figure something out with the likes of Klinsmann and Sheringham, as it looks weird as it was, with years all over the place. And nothing of your work has been lost, it is all still in the article history of the Tottenham article. Poulsen 21:54, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

How is the information about her nude modelling not suitable for Wikipedia? I mean do you not realize there are pornstar and Playboy Playmate sections? So this information is perfectly suitable. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by CelticJobber (talkcontribs) 23:34, 31 December 2006 (UTC).

Thanks

Thanks for cleaning Tom Howard up, it looks better now. The only problem I notice is: the big space gap in the career section (I believe it's because of the picture on the right). I'm no expert on pictures, so I wouldn't know how to fix that. RobJ1981 21:54, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

K.C. James & Idol Stevens

I keep adding them because it doesnt mean they are really inactive because of McCool's injury. Its just like saying that Scotty 2 Hotty or Funaki are inactive because they haven't appeared for 4-5 weeks. ---Belevsquad 02:12, 23 January 2007 (UTC)

James+Stevens are inactive (no TV time or anything is certainly not active), Scotty and Funaki are as well: I checked (and unless I'm wrong) haven't teamed for quite a few months either. Inactive teams shouldn't be listed with the regular teams, period. RobJ1981 17:30, 26 January 2007 (UTC)

Fred Sampson

OWW isn't a reliable reference: it's a glorified fansite that lists many indy wrestlers, dispite how notable they are. TV.com is somewhat reliable I suppose: but they list many people as well, even if they aren't notable or not. But the TV.com link didn't even work: I tried it. It said page not found. The article is better suited for a wrestling wiki. Wikipedia isn't the guide to every wrestler. RobJ1981 22:20, 27 January 2007 (UTC)

AfD Nomination: Fred Sampson

We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the nomination (also see What Wikipedia is not and Deletion policy). Your opinions on why the topic of the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome: participate in the discussion by editing Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Fred Sampson. Add four tildes like this ~~~~ to sign your comments. You can also edit the article Fred Sampson during the discussion, but do not remove the "Articles for Deletion" template (the box at the top of the article), this will not end the deletion debate. Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. Jayden54Bot 21:35, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

Sebastian Larsson

Hello. I reverted your edit of Sebastian Larsson. According to official policy, the stats in the infobox are domestic league only. Also, there seems to be a consensus that whenever a loan is immediately followed by a permanent transfer to the same club, we regard the move as a single continuous spell. --Badmotorfinger 12:49, 2 February 2007 (UTC)

Spurs article

Hi, I just noticed your revert to the Spurs article (you beat me by a half-second or so). I wanted to remind you that semi-protection is really only supposed to be used as a last resort, when vandalism is at the point where we have no choice but to protect (for example, 10x/day for several days). If you look at the requests at WP:RFP you'll see what it takes to get a page semi-protected. Regards, howcheng {chat} 18:08, 8 February 2007 (UTC)

Location of Barnet

Hi Govvy - FWIW, Barnet, though still occasionally referred to as "Barnet, hertfordshire", is not in Herts. It was, until it became part of Greater london in the mid-1960s, but is no longer officially regarded as being in Herts (check the article on Barnet). Similarly, your comment about "Enfield, Middlesex", see the articles on Enfield and Middlesex - he latter of which clarifies the point nicely when it says: By 1965 urban London had further expanded and almost all of the original area was incorporated into Greater London. Middlesex is still used informally as an area name. As to your edit summary's "do your homework please", i was born in barnet and my father was involved in local administration at the time of the changeover to the GLC, so I do know a bit about what I'm talking about. Grutness...wha? 23:39, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

The match at No Way Out is not notable, and now the last paragraph looks better and more encyclopedic after I fixed all the spelling and grammar errors. Just because it's a PPV match doesn't make it notable to his overall career. Can you imagine if we included every PPV match Shawn Michaels has been in to his article? It would be incredibly long and tedious. Hope this helps explain. Cheers, Bmg916 Speak to Me 19:08, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

User talk:Damon88 and "The Dominator"

Welcome to Wikipedia. We invite everyone to contribute constructively to our encyclopedia. However, talk pages are meant to be a record of a discussion; deleting or editing legitimate comments is considered bad practice, even if you meant well. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Bmg916 Speak to Me 20:05, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

While I don't think Damon88 should have said what he did to you about having nothing to say to you, the ECW announcers do not refer to the move as the Dominator. I'm also pretty sure the next guy who does a fireman's carry slam won't refer to it as the "F-U" as John Cena does. Just because a move is renamed once doesn't mean it's always renamed. For example, Sting uses the Sharpshooter, but when he uses it, it's called the "Scorpion Deathlock". Just because one guy in a promotion uses it, doesn't mean it automatically goes by the same name when another guy uses it, even within the same promotion. Another example, Booker T's Rock Bottom maneuver was referred to as the Book End, even in WWE. Bmg916 Speak to Me 20:05, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

Well, if they refer to it as that, then so be it. But do you understand my point about how just because a move is called one thing, it's not ALWAYS necessarily called that? Bmg916 Speak to Me 20:15, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

Re Dominator

The reason i dont want the dominator name is beacuse its not lashleys main finisher anymore he just uses it occasionally these days and if you put a name to the finisher then it has to be first and i dont think it should beacuse then his main finisher the running powerslam or spear wont look as the main finisher thats why but if you dont like it well do what you want then im just letting it going by your way so i can stay clean but i dont agree with you. English

There is no such thing as "universal English". WP policy says both primary English spelling (American and British) are acceptable, so changing the spelling just because you like it is not acceptable. TJ Spyke 10:56, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

It doesn't matter what you think the policy should be, the fact is that OFFICIAL policy lets both be used. It also says that just switching for no reason isn't acceptable. TJ Spyke 21:58, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

Spurs

The list of books is good, but to get to featured status, and often (but not always) to get to good article status, inline citations[1] showing what information came from what book are required. For example, the phrase In 1990, a slump in the property market left chairman Irving Scholar on the verge of bankruptcy, leaving him with no option but to sell the club is one which would need to be backed up with an inline citation. I was told you deleted this article, I was just interested in what it looked like before it was deleted. Regards Govvy 22:41, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

Before I deleted it, it had been blanked; the content before the blanking was:

This is name of person If you are reading this you probably already know I will take over the universe

(with the name of someone in the place where I put "name of person" above).
Prior to that, there was another article with the same title, which was deleted by someone else (under WP:PROD, with the reason "Non notable wrestling promotion, no third party sources, fails WP:CORP"); that one was a real article. If you want to take a look, I can temporarily undelete it (or you could request at Wikipedia:Deletion review#Content review). --cesarb 00:08, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

Bryan Danielson

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! We welcome and appreciate your contributions, such as Bryan Danielson, but we regretfully cannot accept original research. Please find and add a reliable citation to your recent edit so we can verify your work. Uncited information may be removed at any time. Thanks for your efforts, and happy editing! Burntsauce 16:09, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

Removal of WP:BLP violations is not vandalism, and if you restore them you can be blocked. Burntsauce 16:10, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
Please read WP:BLP, then read it three more times before we carry on this conversation. Burntsauce 16:18, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
If you're not going to bother reading our policies, and instead resort to personal attacks, please don't messaging me at all. I've warned you regarding WP:BLP violations and that is that. Burntsauce 16:23, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

Your warning is unfounded. Any informative explanation you may have or may have had doesn't seem to have come across to me. I reverted what I saw as vandalism yet you failed to view my action as thus, that is why I found you insulting. Your actions as thus reminds me of a sockpuppet. That is why I said that. At any time you shouldn't remove large amounts of information from bio's even if it is wrong. This will to anyone look like vandalism unless the information removed was vandalism. Seeing otherwise and putting so forth as otherwise isn't in spec with any WP or any explanation of the current one Bryan Danielson. Who as it happens I have read his bio, have seen him wrestle in all the brands stated and I view all the information as correct. Govvy 16:32, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

Govvy, you are absolutely wrong in this. I will block if you continue to push this agenda. "At any time you shouldn't remove large amounts of information from bios even if it is wrong" is incorrect. The correct answer is "At any time you MUST remove large amounts of information from bios if it is wrong." Period. Wikipedia is not Myspace, we don't need shoddy crap. --Jimbo Wales 01:48, 12 May 2007 (UTC)
What you are referring to is original research and grossly violates our WP:BLP code. Burntsauce 16:36, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
You wrote: At any time you shouldn't remove large amounts of information from bio's even if it is wrong. That is incorrect, and it disturbs me greatly that you think so. Burntsauce 16:46, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

AIV

If you want to report a vandal on this page, you have to say who s/he is. If you are continuing a previous conversation, bear in mind that we do not all watch this page all of the time.--Anthony.bradbury 17:18, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for making a report about Burntsauce (talk · contribs · block log) on Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism. Reporting and removing vandalism is vital to the functioning of Wikipedia and all users are encouraged to revert, warn, and report vandalism. However, administrators are generally only able to block users if they have received a recent final warning (one that mentions that the user may be blocked) and they have recently vandalized after that warning was given. The reported user has not yet been blocked because it appears this has not occurred yet. If this user continues to vandalize even after their final warning, please report them to the AIV noticeboard again. Please also don't use WP:AIV to attempt to resolve content disputes. Thanks. - Alison 17:21, 4 April 2007 (UTC) (edit conflicted with Anthony. Sorry!)

RE: Shelton/Hogan

Thanks. However, an article needs to reach GA status before it can even be nominated for FA status. and Hogan needs a sourcing overhaul if it wants to reach FA status. Bmg916SpeakSign 15:01, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

Cool, for PPV results I recommend using this site, however to get the specific link to the specific PPV you have to break the frames, in order to do this, when in the right frame you have loaded the PPV you want (proper year and all), right click, then left click This Frame, then left click Show only this frame. Then in the URL bar will be the specific URL you want. Hope this helps. Bmg916SpeakSign 15:10, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
I do feel WWE.com is a reliable source, but we should try to use sources that are independent from WWE in order to avoid complaint from the BLP and ATT patrol. Bmg916SpeakSign 15:17, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
Yes, but we also need sources that are independent from the subject. PWH accomplishes this goal. Bmg916SpeakSign 15:26, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

Wrestler GA's

Your comment on my talkpage is a bit mystifying. Maybe if you told me what articles they are, and how could we improve it, then I could nominate them. If you told me in the first place the problems, then maybe I could of sorted them out. Neldav 14:39, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

In fact, it seems like you were talking about Gregory Helms. If you would like to specify any problems with the article, and why it would probably fail GA, please leave a note on my talkpage. I'm sorry about the above comment, I got a bit infuriated when I seen the note on my talkpage. Peace :) Neldav 14:46, 11 May 2007 (UTC)
Which ones? If you don't tell me, how am I meant to know? Neldav 16:58, 11 May 2007 (UTC)
Right so, Ric Flair, Shawn Michaels and Gregory Helms. If you tell me what is specificially wrong with these articles, maybe I can improve it, so it can be at GA status. I went and sourced Flair and Helms, and then I put them on the GA-candidate list. Neldav 17:04, 11 May 2007 (UTC)
Online World Of Wrestling can be considered a primary source. WWE.com results only go back to 2003, while Online World of Wrestling has thousands of results and profiles and WWE.com stays in kayfabe. Neldav 17:18, 11 May 2007 (UTC)
OK, but you can use other websites if you wanted to. It's not complusory for GA-status that you must use the official website for information is it? Neldav 17:24, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

Phil Theis

To be honest it's more a case of priorities. Is the article ever going to be much better than that? I don't think so, while you've got A.J. Styles that's completely unsourced. So honest question, which article do you really think you should be spending time on? Which article could become a GA or an FA? There's far too much time being spent trying to defend articles that are four sentences long and will never get much better, as your good friend Jimbo Wales said it's quality over quantity. One Night In Hackney303 11:17, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

Getting back to Phil Theis then...if the article is going to stay in that state, or with a couple of extra sentences added, do you really think it's worth keeping? Would it really be a good advert for the WikiProkect or for Wikipedia? I really don't think so, and I really don't think anything would be lost if it was deleted. Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/User:Govvy/Fred Sampson

Hi,

Your subpage was deleted pursuant to this debate; please do not repost the content. Best wishes, Xoloz 21:48, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

Unfortunately, I'm afraid you misunderstand what userpages are for: please read WP:OWN and WP:USER. Your userpage does not belong to you. It is part of the encyclopedia, and exists for the sake of work therein, at the discretion of the community. The community decided in this this debate that your user-subpage merited deletion. I deleted your page pursuant to that debate.
It is very true that the nominator of the your user-subpage for deletion should have notified you on 10 May, when the page was nominated. This failure is unfortunate, and might constitute grounds for restoring the page. However, it is still fundamental that you read and understand Wikipedia's guidelines regarding userpages: content therein does NOT belong to you. This misunderstanding of yours is one major reason the page was deleted. Best wishes, Xoloz 22:17, 15 May 2007 (UTC)
No reason to cry. :) It's not a crime to make mistakes -- I do it all the time. :) Wikipedia needs notability standards to make sure it remains an encyclopedia (as opposed to a database of everything that has ever existed.) Mr. Sampson does not meet those standards yet, and saving his article on a userpage to "wait for him to become famous" was not the right thing to do. Don't worry -- if he does become notable, the article can always be restored. In the meantime, there are plenty of things to write about. Best wishes, Xoloz 22:38, 15 May 2007 (UTC)
