Soultaker (1990)

Please note that this is not a review for the film's GA nomination but rather some helpful advice from one user to another. That being said, there are still some things that need to be worked on in order to solidify the film's GA status if it's accepted. I've been looking around and have found plenty of sources that can be added here. Also, if possible, Variety magazine's review of the film should be given a little more detail than noting that it also spoke positively on the film (what did they say?). I can work with you more closely on getting this all up to snuff so that it will for sure be confirmed as GA. Just let me know on my talk page if you have any questions.--Paleface Jack (talk) 17:11, 12 November 2018 (UTC)

Hello GamerPro64, Just got your message about the possible collaboration on Soultaker. I've found that there are a lot of sources on the film in Google Books. I will list some here. If you need me to expand a specific section I would be willing to do that. Here are the sources I found:

--Paleface Jack (talk) 18:14, 12 November 2018 (UTC)

Got your reply. The sources I included were more for the reception section. I sort of had an idea of what we can add. We could add a short background on the main cast/crew (what they did before and after). If we can find it, some interviews with the cast or special effects supervisor would be nice although I wasn't able to find any at the moment. We'll just take what we can and go from there.--Paleface Jack (talk) 17:09, 13 November 2018 (UTC)

DYK for Soultaker (film)

On 10 January 2019, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Soultaker (film), which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that screenwriter and actress Vivian Schilling was inspired to write Soultaker by a car accident in which she had been involved? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Soultaker (film). You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Soultaker (film)), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Re:Johnny Mnemonic

Hey Gamer! I do have a passing familiarity with this game, but unfortunately it doesn't extend to the plot—I just see the game around when I'm digging for sources. I was about to recommend looking on YouTube for a longplay, but it seems that you beat me to it, because there's nothing there. It also seems like you've already got a great start on the development and reception sections, which is all I'd really be able to help with. If you need more reviews, though, I can offer this one:

  • Snyder, Frank; Chapman, Ted; Kaiafas, Tasos (August 1995). "Hey, That's Not Keanu Reeves!". Computer Game Review. Archived from the original on December 21, 1996. {{cite web}}: Unknown parameter |deadurl= ignored (|url-status= suggested) (help)

Let me know if you'd like me to dig for development-related sources as well. As for the plot, I did notice some long videos on YouTube about the Johnny Mnemonic game (like this), which might delve into the plot. Walkthroughs could also help—I've had to rely on those here and there recently for Traitors Gate and Hollywood Monsters. One great thing about plot sections is that you don't always have to source everything with citations, since the game itself can serve as the source. It's definitely not my preference, but I still do it when there's no other option. Happy editing! JimmyBlackwing (talk) 13:46, 12 July 2019 (UTC)

"Closed"?

Sorry for the slip-up. I wasn't aware it was closed. Is there anywhere I can go to check that stuff going forward? I checked the page history and it hadn't been edited to indicate that it had been closed since that back-and-forth in April. I see now that your edit summary said "closing" but your actual edit (which was all I had read to that point) said The way I see it I will be closing this Supp nom as Promoted due to all these articles being Good Articles (emphasis added), let alone that I pointed out that you weren't allowed make such a close only a few hours later. Hijiri 88 (やや) 23:16, 29 July 2019 (UTC)

"You weren't allowed"? Look, I get you have issues with the articles. And you are free to take them to GAR if they fail the criteria. But there was consensus to promote at that point. Do not tell me that I am not allowed to close reviews. GamerPro64 23:38, 29 July 2019 (UTC)
I have issues with the articles as everyone who has read them with an understanding of our copyright policy does. And I did take one of them to GAR (despite having explained why I shouldn't have to). "Consensus" among tendentious editors who do not understand our copyright policy cannot overrule the copyright policy itself. Hijiri 88 (やや) 23:46, 29 July 2019 (UTC)
Anyway, do you know of a "Featured Topic reassessment" process or something that can be pursued now that Black Panther has been delisted and Captain Marvel has apparently missed the deadline for being nominated that a bunch of the editors of those articles have always told me was in place? Caligari

Hey GamerPro. Thanks again for doing the peer review of The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. Do you know whether you as the reviewer need to formally close it via the instructions here? Or can anyone do it, including myself? Sorry to be a pest, I have another article I want to put up for a peer review in anticipation of a forthcoming FA nomination, and I can't nominate another article for PR until this one closes. lol — Hunter Kahn 12:28, 18 August 2019 (UTC)

I think it would be much quicker if you close it yourself. I usually close down my PRs once they stop being active. GamerPro64 14:20, 18 August 2019 (UTC)

Hello! I have expanded the article a bit and added more reliable indepth references, along with a game cover and release date (main one was already in the article but not in infobox+ Switch release). Thanks for creating it! Jovanmilic97 (talk) 12:29, 7 September 2019 (UTC)

Hello there! Future proposal for a GA article?

Hello GamerPro64! If you're wondering who I am, I am the editor who reviewed one of your GA nominations, Soultaker, last year.

I know that you are a fairly experienced editor, what with the many articles that you have been able to bring to GA and FA status. And though you're more of a video game person, you also have a love for campy/cult following esque movies. I wanted to ask of you that when the time comes, and I'm able to gather all the information needed, you would potentially be the GA reviewer for a film article I am currently still working on? It is titled Roar for more context, and if you wanted to take a look-see.

Kind regards, NowIsntItTime(chats)(doings) 13:51, 6 September 2019 (UTC)

Sure I can review it. Been hearing about Roar lately. Definitely a project worth looking at. GamerPro64 14:00, 6 September 2019 (UTC)

The Guidance Barnstar
Thank you for reviewing Roar for GA! This means a lot to me. Hope to work with you again on an article! -NowIsntItTime(chats)(doings) 00:57, 2 October 2019 (UTC)

Hi Gamer. Since you recently reviewed this article for GA status, I'm letting you know as a courtesy that I've prodded File:Roar original soundtrack.jpg for deletion because its current use doesn't comply with WP:NFCCP or WP:FILMSCORE.

In addition, there doesn't appear to be any mention of any of the images used in the article in the GA review and maybe they were discussed somewhere else, but there are three other non-free images being used in the article besides the album cover. The non-free poster art used in the main infobox is almost certainly OK, but the other two (the screenshot in the filming section and the 2015 re-release poster) might be borderline/questionable per WP:NFCC#8 (WP:NFC#CS) and may require further discussion at WP:FFD if someone disputes their non-free use rationales. The re-release poster is not being used in the main infobox as its corresponding rationale claims and screenshots are not typically used to "illustrate" filming locations just to show them per WP:FILMNFI unless the screenshot itself is the subject of sourced critical commentary. I realize you didn't upload these files and add their corresponding rationales, but am just letting you know about possible issues with them once again only as a courtesy since you carried out the GA review. -- Marchjuly (talk) 02:27, 2 October 2019 (UTC)

Hello! I am the uploader of a few of the images. If you want, you are free to come and discuss the images on my talk page. Right now I'm absolutely fine with letting File:Roar original soundtrack.jpg be deleted. But I'd like to see if I can potentially fix the problems with the 2015 re-release poster (which I did not upload) and the image taken during filming. -NowIsntItTime(chats)(doings) 06:03, 2 October 2019 (UTC)

Re:Daikatana

Hey! I'd say it's going to need a revamp; the article is thin and in sorry shape right now. Daikatana is a subject that will easily, if taken up to FA-level comprehensiveness, require 200–400 citations. Because of the period when it released (before the dot-com crash hollowed out the game journalism startup economy), the game's outsize fame and controversy during development, on top of its enduring legacy, it's quite simply one of the most-covered games of all time. Since you worked on the article for Ion Storm's Anachronox, you have a ballpark idea of how large this could be—but Daikatana is a few orders of magnitude more daunting. I also worked on Anachronox as a sourcing assistant to Zeality when he wrote the bulk of that article, and Daikatana still scares me as a subject.

In terms of how to approach the structure of the article, there are a few long-form sources that can provide much of the framework (although not the meat) for the game's development, release and promotional campaign. These are what you might call the "central pillars" of Daikatana coverage, at least in my somewhat limited understanding:

  • Masters of Doom – per the index, Daikatana is broadly covered around pages 236–286
  • Keighley, Geoff (June 2, 2000). "Knee Deep in a Dream: The Story of Daikatana". GameSpot. Archived from the original on April 29, 2001. – very famous and extremely detailed article (publication date visible on this page)
  • Biederman, Christine (January 14, 1999). "Stormy weather". Dallas Observer. Archived from the original on October 3, 2012. – another extremely detailed article, and at the time one of the most controversial reports ever written about a game

In terms of arranging the article, it's tough to say. Daikatana is sort of a unique entity and may require some innovative structuring to cover properly. Darkwarriorblake's work on Vampire: The Masquerade – Redemption and Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines could be a starting point, although there will certainly be differences. Daikatana's story is much more simplistic, for example, and its promotional campaign will probably require its own section (outside the release section) given its vast representation in the sources. Anachronox could be another reference point for structure, but it's again a bit of a different animal.

As for delegating work on the article, I'm more than happy to keep adding hard-to-find sources on the talk page. I think we'll need two or more experienced editors on mainspace writing duty because of the size of the subject. The gameplay and plot will be relatively straightforward to cover, I think—both are fairly simplistic. It's really everything else that's going to be a headache. JimmyBlackwing (talk) 23:59, 23 October 2019 (UTC)

  • Oh, an aside: this cache of Daikatana-related magazine scans will be crucial to covering the game properly as well. Quite a few longish articles in there, although nothing as individually comprehensive as the three sources I listed above. JimmyBlackwing (talk) 00:01, 24 October 2019 (UTC)
  • Sounds good. Let me know if you have any source-finding requests in particular. Beyond that, I'll just add sources to the talk page as I find them. JimmyBlackwing (talk) 00:13, 24 October 2019 (UTC)

Daikatana update

Hi. I've finally finished as much as I can do of the expansions and tidying up of Daikatana. There wasn't really that much real info from the sources I could find and assure were legitimate. It was an extremely depressing read going through all those sources and finding info for the current sections. I've got a lot of things going on in real life at the moment, this is as much as I can commit to. I hope it helps. the PC Gamer Ion Storm history and Divine's insider retrospective on the Dallas branch (used in the sections I've expanded/rewritten) can be used in other sections for the sales, reception and legacy. --ProtoDrake (talk) 12:18, 22 November 2019 (UTC)

Squirm Article Suggestions

Hello GamerPro64, Please note that this is not a review of your GA nomination of the film Squirm, merely a suggestion on some additional information. I have looked around for some additional sources and have come up with some that have good information that you might want to check out if you are interested. John Kenneth Muir does a pretty good review/analysis of the film in his book Horror Films of the 1970s Al Taylor and Susan Roy's Making a Monster: The Creation of Screen Characters by the Great Makeup Artists is a somewhat obscure book that has plenty of information if one is able to find it. There are plenty of other literary sources that I may have overlooked but even without these additions, the article is fine. Anyways, hope this all helps and happy editing. --Paleface Jack (talk) 17:54, 9 December 2019 (UTC)

Thanks Jack. I would love to use the Horror Films of the 1970s book but the Squirm section gets cut off when the actual review takes place. Meanwhile I will definitely look at the Making a Monster book. GamerPro64 17:58, 9 December 2019 (UTC)

Find more: Unreviewed featured articles

Here is a template listing FAs (and dates) with talk page notifications that a Featured article review is needed. According to the FAR instructions, after waiting five to seven days to see if anyone engages to address the issues, anyone can bring an article to FAR, subject to a) no more than one nomination every two weeks; and b) no more than four nominations on the page at one time, unless permission for more is given by a FAR coordinator. Just wanted to say nice work on your edits to this article this past October. It's always good to see someone else adding in content from reliable sources.--Martin IIIa (talk) 21:33, 29 January 2020 (UTC)

Thanks. Been trying to get that article into a more ship shape status. So its good to see people appreciating the work. GamerPro64 04:08, 30 January 2020 (UTC)

Thanks

Saw your notification at WT:FAC. If people aren't noticing, that means you're doing a fantastic job. I've noticed, btw ... it came up just last week, I was thinking of writing some list articles and peeked in at how they were handled at FT. I was happy. - Dank (push to talk) 13:35, 1 February 2020 (UTC)

Featured Topic delegate resignation

After doing it for more than 6 years, I feel that it is time for me to resign as a delegate from Featured Topics. The fact that Spy-cicle has now been added as a delegate is the main reason, since I didn't want to leave with it just being you, and I did as much work as I could one last time to try to reduce the backlog. I apologize for not being that active with this since last year except for a few major points of activity where I reduced the backlog all at once, but I'm more busy now with other things, and simply can't devote the time to it that I once had. That, and the topic that I had helped to get promoted, Wikipedia:Featured topics/Key video games, was demoted last year, with no real expectation of it being repromoted any time soon in the future, so my relationship with FTC has waned considerably since then. So it's been fun the past 6 years, and I wish you all the best.-- 01:05, 9 February 2020 (UTC)

Featured Topic delegate

I saw your message on WP:FAC. I would like to help out as a delegate for featured topics assisting in closing Featured Topic Candidates and Featured Topic Removal candidates, etc. Regards  Spy-cicle💥  Talk? 16:00, 1 February 2020 (UTC)

  • @Spy-cicle: All right. I'll add you to the list of delegates and you get started on helping with the backlog anytime. GamerPro64 21:37, 3 February 2020 (UTC)
Great thank you very much. I will do. I look forward to working with you on the project. Although, there are are a few featured topic removal candidates that are ready to be closed like Emirates Cup, Thatgamecompany, Seasons of Veronica Mars (and probably Red Dead Redemption) that I do not think I am eligible to close since I !voted in them. Regards  Spy-cicle💥  Talk? 16:33, 4 February 2020 (UTC)
I'll get around to closing those nominations then. GamerPro64 16:39, 4 February 2020 (UTC)
Great. On a separate note, thank you for assisting me in promoting/closing that Margaret FTC. Hopefully, I should be able to close the next one more seemlessly. Regards  Spy-cicle💥  Talk? 21:51, 4 February 2020 (UTC)

If additional delegates are needed I would be able to help. Not sure how much time I would be able to contribute, as my contributions ebb and flow. Let me know either way, no worries if you all have it covered. Kees08 (Talk) 16:45, 14 February 2020 (UTC)

Sorry for bothering you, but...

New Page Patrol needs experienced volunteers
  • New Page Patrol is currently struggling to keep up with the influx of new articles. We could use a few extra hands on deck if you think you can help.
  • Reviewing/patrolling a page doesn't take much time but it requires a good understanding of Wikipedia policies and guidelines; Wikipedia needs experienced users to perform this task and there are precious few with the appropriate skills. Even a couple reviews a day can make a huge difference.
  • If you would like to join the project and help out, please see the granting conditions and review our instructions page. You can apply for the user-right HERE. — Insertcleverphrasehere (or here)(click me!) 20:51, 1 March 2020 (UTC)

DYK for The Race Against Time

On 10 March 2020, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article The Race Against Time, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that copies of the video game The Race Against Time were recalled due to the unauthorized use of Jesse Owens's likeness on its packaging and advertising? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/The Race Against Time. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, The Race Against Time), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Squirm Article Suggestions

Hello Gamer, A while back you put up the article on the film Squirm for GA nomination. I just wanted to let you know that I have looked over the article and have noticed some more things that can be improved upon. The film's entry at the American Film Institute is extremely helpful and gives some more possible sources that can be added if you can find them. I would also suggest looking around on JSTOR for more sources as well just so that no small piece of information is left unaddressed. I did add the complete mentionings of the film from my copy of John Kenneth Muir's Horror Films of the 1970s, so you are good on that front. For legacy sections, I have always looked for possible influences films or any other subjects have had upon other works or people. I can try to look into that if it helps and I will get back to you on that. Anyways, like what you have done so far with the article, once it looks complete on my end I will be honored to review it. Until then happy editing!--Paleface Jack (talk) 16:02, 12 March 2020 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of Dun Darach

Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article Dun Darach you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. This process may take up to 0 days. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have during this period. Message delivered by Cognissonance, on behalf of Legobot -- Cognissonance (talk) 12:01, 17 April 2020 (UTC)

Re:Dun Darach

Hey! I can see why you're having difficulty here—it sounds like a very strange blend of mechanics that doesn't fall neatly into categories we recognize these days. Reading about it, I'm reminded a bit of Labyrinth: The Computer Game and Below the Root from around the same time. Those games combined sidescrolling gameplay with elements of exploration, puzzle-solving, item collection, (light) action and conversation. Sort of like a weird take on the King's Quest I style of adventure. Watching footage of Dun Darach, it also makes me think of The Bard's Tale, but in sidescrolling form and with much less action. That makes sense, because there was a lot of bleedover between adventures and role-playing games in this era (even some of the Zork games doubled as full-on RPGs). Also, based on the instructions, there seem to be elements of simulation worked in here, with roaming NPCs and a bit of an open/living world. Those are ideas that Lure of the Temptress and its Virtual Theatre engine played with a few years later. Hopefully some of that is useful in figuring out how to describe Dun Darach. It's certainly not a standard adventure title as we understand them now, but it's not completely out of the norm for its time. JimmyBlackwing (talk) 06:40, 12 March 2020 (UTC)

Excellent work on the GA! JimmyBlackwing (talk) 21:56, 17 April 2020 (UTC)
