Unwanted a tags in your edits.

Hi Dpfoc, I've seen, that you introduced text strings like <a class="ktg6us7 8hf8vdu7" href="#"> into your test article (eg. here). We see that happening for some time now, but haven't yet found the reason for this to happen. As we already investigated, that those strings don't come from our software, we expect an erroneous browser extension to be the cause. To make us able to find the reason for those nasty text additions, it would be great, if you could let us know, which browser you use (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, Opera, ...) and if you know how to look that up, the list of enabled extensions! Thanks, Hoo man (talk) 15:07, 18 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there and thanks very much for the message. I have seen these strings and want to genuinely apologise for them as I did not add these intentionally as clearly they look terrible and detract from user experience. I have gone back and manually removed them so I hope they are gone now. In terms of my browser, I am using the latest version of Chrome. I have disabled the extension listed below and I think the problem has stopped now so think (but am not sure) that this may have been the offending extension. Again, I apologise for the inconvenience caused on this.

Thank you, that's a very detailed reply :) We're going to check that back and probably file a report to the tool programmer(s). - Hoo man (talk) 15:39, 18 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Hoo Man - you seem to be quite the expert on matters Wikipedia. I was wondering if you have a spare moment, could you have a look at an article that I've tried to submit on an Irish company called Blue Insurances. You can see it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Dpfoc/sandbox I would just like to get some feedback if I am on the right track. I have read a lot of the WP literature but some feedback from an expert would be really great. My main query is why is there 2 articles there (pretty much duplicates of eachother) when as far as I'm aware I only created one! If you don't have time, that's no issue, I'll keep reading and see if I can get there in the end but if you get a moment, I'd really appreciate it!

Welcome to Wikipedia. I saw how you edited or created Search engine optimization, and I noticed that the username you have chosen, "Dpfoc", seems to imply that you are editing on behalf of a group, company or website. Please note that Wikipedia does not allow usernames that are promotional or appear to be shared by multiple people. Please take a moment to create a new account or request a username change that represents only yourself as an individual. You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and remember that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. Thank you. NTox · talk 17:43, 18 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

^ This is no big deal, but if in fact your username represents a website you should change it at WP:CHU. Don't hesitate to contact me here if you have any questions, and thanks for editing. NTox · talk 17:45, 18 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, thanks very much for this advice. I have changed my name to eddiejodriscoll84 now and will go back and re-do the edit as I do think it adds value to the piece. If I am still in breach of any WP protocol, please do let me know and I will ensure to endeavour to adhere to it. Thanks very much. Eddiejodriscoll84

Hi. Please don't add links to your own site.

Thanks,

Thanks for this feedback. I have read the WP policies on conflict of interest and feel that I have adhered to them. I feel that the SEO article not referencing the Google Penguin update is actually quite poor from the user's perspective as it is not an overstatement to say this was Google's most substantial update in many years but in the WP article on SEO, it's not mentioned. I simply wanted to add a note on this and use, what I hope you will agree, is a very useful article on Penguin here http://www.dpfoc.com/ireland/google-penguin-update.php to reference my note. If I were adding crap to WP in order to get a link, I would understand the removal of my note on Penguin. Bt, I honestly believe that WP is worse now having removed my note than it was while the note was there. The conflict of interest guidelines have been adhered to, I am contributing genuinely and meaningfully to the knowledge base of WP so I would ask that you reconsider the removal of my most recent updates. Two comments:
  • I thought we already had an article on Google Penguin -- why not just link to it instead of your own site?
  • If you think your site meets our Reliable Sources criteria, then leave a note on the article talk page suggesting others consider adding it. Adding it yourself is a conflict of interest. If others agree, they'll use it. Editors will see and read your talk page comment, especially on a heavily watched and edited article like that.
In any event, please don't add any more links to your own site to our actual articles.

Hi, my personal view is that the link to the DPFOC Penguin resource enhances the experience of the WP user and to remove this because of the COR policy seems to defeat the purpose of the policy ie to enhance user experience. Nonetheless, I have linked the SEO article to the Penguin article on WP. I really hope you don't undo this as for the SEO article not to directly reference the biggest update that took place in the world of SEO in many years would frankly be daft.
