Check this out

User:Kemmsy joined few days ago and the first was here, inputing to Chris Ifediora. Puff & image here. As if not to mention the other disruptive edits, the editor on their talk page here issued for the removal of the "paid tag" on the article. Here comes User:Sonnie Nwosu Abuja relatively new with maybe a day or two after Kemmsy. This user edited the same article adding almost the same context -related words here. Plus that, they have created/submitted a draft Draft:OCI Foundation here which happens to be that of "Ifediora". Now, the sock there is that when User:JarrahTree welcomed Sonnie Nwosu Abuja, and after two discussions, the editor affirmed a relpy here with "we" and here again (it shows there is sock..ing). After my warning to them because of their edits to "Ifediora", they replied here with the same response exactly as Kemmsy and was repeated here again. Thanks! — Safari ScribeEdits! Talk! 11:46, 15 April 2024 (UTC)

Note that I tend to welcome in WP:AGF even apparent problem editors on the basis that a welcome comment has least a cooling effect on some, but in this case it looks like a circus... JarrahTree 11:50, 15 April 2024 (UTC)

Looks like User talk:FeldmarschallGneisenau is a sock of Urabura: Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Urabura/Archive

They were previously SPI'd, but was too soon to say. The overlap in pages edited is suspicious now. Some of them are very niche.

Zenomonoz (talk) 11:33, 14 April 2024 (UTC)

Another piece of evidence since the SPI: FeldmarschallGneisenau was edit-warring to keep the phrase "prime minister" in the lede of Donald Tusk without capitalization [1]. This formatting appears to have been originally introduced by Urabura's sockpuppet HetmanWL. [2]. NicolausPrime (talk) 11:41, 14 April 2024 (UTC)
I forgot to explicitly add these two now-blocked accounts to the list of sockpuppets during the SPI investigation: User:Shqian User:Retois. This comment made me suspicious: [3]. NicolausPrime (talk) 11:48, 14 April 2024 (UTC)
Even more obvious is that they decided to return to my talk page to troll there.[4]. I never interacted with FeldmarschallGneisenau before but I have interacted with Galehautt who left personal attacks due to the same article that got them indeffed.[5]. Mellk (talk) 11:51, 14 April 2024 (UTC)
More evidence: FeldmarschallGneisenau is now edit-warring in Czech Republic, reinserting changes to the infobox [6] that have been previously placed there by HetmanWL [7]. NicolausPrime (talk) 23:58, 16 April 2024 (UTC)
Even more evidence: FeldmarschallGneisenau edited Serbia to make it not be Central Europe [8], which was what HetmanWL attempted earlier but was reverted [9]. NicolausPrime (talk) 03:27, 17 April 2024 (UTC)
I don't even know who Urabura is or where from. I'm autistic about country pages. There's nothing more I can add.FeldmarschallGneisenau (talk) 11:51, 17 April 2024 (UTC)

Please see Draft:Articles for deletion/Wrightspeed X1

This appears to be an attempt to create an AfD for Wrightspeed X1 which the editor has attempted before in several ways, at least one of which you have reverted. I was considering moving it to the correct place. There is some merit in the (potential) nomination because of lack of sourcing, but the topic appears to me to have notability. Your thoughts would be welcome. 🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦 07:41, 18 April 2024 (UTC)

I've deleted the AfD, removed the tag, and blocked a wider IP range than last January, and this time for 3 months. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.--Bbb23 (talk) 12:55, 18 April 2024 (UTC)
Good call. I think it is a borderline qualifier for an article but I have no strong feelings about it. if someone feels strongly then they may create a fully formed deletion discussion, or ask for help in doing so. 🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦 12:59, 18 April 2024 (UTC)

Template:European Coach of the Year

There is no such thing as European Coach of the Year, so the template is false in a way, 100% rubbish hoax. Surely that's covered by WP:G3? Govvy (talk) 20:16, 17 April 2024 (UTC)

I'm not going to delete the template as a hoax when it's transcluded in so many pages. Work it out at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/European Football Coach of the Year.--Bbb23 (talk) 20:28, 17 April 2024 (UTC)
Hiya Bbb, I've removed the template from those pages, is it viable for G3 now? Govvy (talk) 19:44, 18 April 2024 (UTC)

Decline g-11 speedy

Hello. Why did you decline this speedy request [10]. The sources are promotional and promote the trailer. The filter for this article said it was Spam and I agree. What is your opinion? ---Steve Quinn (talk) 00:17, 20 April 2024 (UTC)

What matters is the language of the article, which was not promotional. Sourcing is irrelevant.--Bbb23 (talk) 00:21, 20 April 2024 (UTC)
I don't want to disagree but - where in our guidelines, policies or essays might it say sourcing is irrelevant when it comes to potentially promotional content? Or, what are you basing that assertion on? ---Steve Quinn (talk) 00:43, 20 April 2024 (UTC)

About Draft:Protests to Japan's New Immigration Bill 2023

@Lebenton and Bbb23: @Bbb23: Could you possibly specify which "entity, person, product, or idea" your CSD G11 tag on this draft refers to? @Lebenton: this draft is quite frankly a huge mess. A "WP:BEFORE" for "Protests to Japan's New Immigration Bill 2023" yields only that draft. Presumably the "New Immigration Bill" you refer to is a 2023 Bill (law) of the Japanese National Diet. Could you possibly link that particular bill? Shirt58 (talk) 🦘 11:34, 19 April 2024 (UTC)

  • As far as I can see the law doesn't even have an article, and isn't even mentioned in Immigration to Japan which this article mostly duplicates. Black Kite (talk) 11:53, 19 April 2024 (UTC)
Shirt58, it looks like a poorly written advertisement for the downtrodden.--Bbb23 (talk) 13:35, 19 April 2024 (UTC)
@Lebenton, Bbb23, Black Kite, and Deb: To be honest here, my initial (emotional, not rational) response to this is: "I don't know what to write about this." On further reflection... please see the "VTEC just kicked in, yo!" meme and replace "VTEC" with "CBT". Sort of.--Shirt58 (talk) 🦘 09:48, 20 April 2024 (UTC)
The subject of the article (if that's what you're asking) seems to be "protests". Deb (talk) 10:17, 20 April 2024 (UTC)

I noticed Brosscreater when they removed the AfD, but then, as now, I was reluctant to block without technical confirmation, mainly because I don't believe any of the socks has ever used the mobile platform for editing. Do me a favor and file a report at WP:SPI requesting CU. FYI, the Shah article created by Bross is almost identical to the one created by the recent sock. Given DP's current tendency to use proxies, it interesting that the current suspect's edits to John Burgess (actor) came immediately after those of 149.88.108.4 and 149.88.108.8, both proxies/VPN belonging to Datacamp. They fall in the 149.88.96.0/20 range, a subset of which, 149.88.96.0/22, is currently blocked. Am I the only one tempted to hard-block the full /20 range? Favonian (talk) 16:53, 21 April 2024 (UTC)

Who's Darnell? BTW, as long as you're here. A couple of comments about SPI and one comment about your signature. First, SPI is very structured, so we don't generally create subsections that aren't part of the normal structure. Second, unlike other administrative noticeboards, it is not required to notify the suspected socks of the report; it's not prohibited, but more often than not it's better not to do so. As for your sig, every time I see it I find it off-putting. Admittedly, I'm not a big fan of customized sigs and yours, AFAIK, is not a violation of the rather lenient guideline we have for sigs - it's the the bolding of your username with the apostrophes and all - makes me think of an article rather than a username. Thanks for the barnstar.--Bbb23 (talk) 13:46, 21 April 2024 (UTC)
Whoops, typed the wrong name. Thanks for the notice! I'm relatively new to SPIs and will be more careful next time. As for my signature, I do plan to change it to something... less custom in the future. Thank you for your great work! '''[[User:CanonNi]]''' (talk|contribs) 01:03, 22 April 2024 (UTC)

Query

Hello, Bbb23,

I realize you are no longer a checkuser but I just came across an incident that I think might be a compromised account. User:NE Ent has been an editor for 18 years but they basically retired in 2023 except for some editing over the last few days. Today, they created a draft and moved it to Wikipedia:SAE J2807 with am edit summary, "Move to mainspace". The only editors I've come across who think moving drafts to the Wikipedia/project namespace is "main space" are very new editors who are not familiar with the project. That leads me to wonder whether this account is compromised. Do you know any functionaries who are active who can check out this very old and established editor account? It just doesn't seem like a mistake a longtime editor would make. Thanks for any help or advice you can offer. Liz Read! Talk! 01:48, 22 April 2024 (UTC)

News to me

…been away for a bit but it’s news to me that non admins can officially decline a G5. I knew about contesting, so I guess thanks for your “attempt” to inform me. :) GRINCHIDICAE🎄 19:21, 20 April 2024 (UTC)

Heh. How are you? The practical reason that a non-admin can decline a G5 is because assuming the article is deleted, anyone (within reason and depending on the article) can ask that it be restored. It's sort of like taking responsibility for an edit that was reverted solely because of it being a sock edit (I do mass reverts all the time) and restoring it. Based on the edit summary of the editor declining the G5 I got the impression they thought it was a viable article. Whether you agree with them or not, they are an experienced editor, so... Thanks for reading my long-winded explanation.--Bbb23 (talk) 22:18, 20 April 2024 (UTC)
I honestly feel bad that I made you go through that explanation. I was intentionally being a shit stirrer for old time sake. I appreciate you though. I get the concept.
I’m on the struggle bus with my kid (lots of health problems) and probably wrongly took it out with my sassy response. I hope you’re doing well, though. (But also I think “decline” should be reserved for admin use only.) GRINCHIDICAE🎄 19:00, 22 April 2024 (UTC)

Hello

Follow up on User_talk:Bbb23/Archive_61#Wikipedia:Sockpuppet_investigations/UniBrill/Archive and User_talk:Bbb23/Archive_61#New_Simon_Ekpa-org. You feel like admin-deleting Prime Minister of Biafra and Who is the Prime Minister of Biafra?. I've been agf-ing that this user is maybe not a sock, but it's harder now. Possibly related: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Democratic Republic of the Yoruba. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 07:02, 20 April 2024 (UTC)

Ha! I'd been watching this user a while ago trying to decide if they were a sock, but at that time, they'd only edited Simon Ekpa a little and nothing that I found smoking gun-like, so I let it alone and stopped watching them ("watching" users on Wikipedia is a pain in the butt, something I've complained about for years). Anyway, they are now blocked and tagged, and all their creations deleted per G5 - thanks! --Bbb23 (talk) 13:10, 20 April 2024 (UTC)

I've never started a SPI, but I'm considering doing so on this editor [12]. Any wisdom? Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 12:14, 24 April 2024 (UTC)
If you wish to allege that Fugabus is part of Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/UniBrill, it's been done once before, in October 2023, and the CU found the account to be unrelated. A lot of time has passed since then, and it's possible that the technical data now might reveal something useful that wasn't apparent last year. If you do go ahead, you should note the history in the case and that you are still filing because of the behavioral similarities, which you would of course have to list with diffs.--Bbb23 (talk) 15:35, 24 April 2024 (UTC)
Ah, didn't know about the previous one. Seems less worth the effort then. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 16:10, 24 April 2024 (UTC)

You are completely right, I should not have told the IP to add a source on a disambiguation page. That seems to be my go-to move when I find unverified content in articles, but you are correct that those types of pages are exceptions regarding WP:V. Draft:ENCRYPTED MESSAGE

I saw you deleted it under G1. However, it was really an encrypted message, not gibberish. It can be cracked quite easily. Maybe it should have been left as a stale draft and deleted in 6 months. 14 novembre (talk) 🇮🇹 16:08, 30 April 2024 (UTC)

What does say after it is "cracked"?--Bbb23 (talk) 16:10, 30 April 2024 (UTC)
It is an opinion on the functioning of Wikipedia. 14 novembre (talk) 🇮🇹 16:18, 30 April 2024 (UTC)
Um, doesn't it translate into actual words? In any event, the IP who created it is a vandal, and the draft is vandalism, even if it's not a G1.--Bbb23 (talk) 16:22, 30 April 2024 (UTC)
@Bbb23 Yes, I remember it could translate in real words. Anyway yes, I agree it has nothing to do with Wikipedia, I was just thinking that it didn't actually comply with that criterion. 14 novembre (talk) 🇮🇹 16:25, 30 April 2024 (UTC)
Do you mean that you're going by your memory so cannot now see the encrypted text? I don't know how to decrypt, but the text was included by the IP at the bottom of this page. Can you decrypt it? I'm just curious. Also, if you know of a website that will decrypt it, please let me know. I looked at several, but they were all too complicated and didn't work for me.--Bbb23 (talk) 16:34, 30 April 2024 (UTC)
There are apparently no websites which can successfully do it. Anyway the message says that "many blocks of different duration are wrong, and this is implictly accepted by the Wikipedia community due to the fact that unregistered contribution are welcome, implicitly accepting and encouraging block evasion". I personally don't agree with the IP, but anyway I think I've answered your question. 14 novembre (talk) 🇮🇹 16:43, 30 April 2024 (UTC)

the editor cabal looks similar to me. Could you explain how?--Bbb23 (talk) 21:43, 30 April 2024 (UTC)
Similar in there's an organization in the subject's background that continues to promote the subject after departing the organization, here the The American School in Switzerland (in the other article it began with the Abu Dhabi water authority per the COI statement on the main sock's userpage), and relatively closed set of editors promoting or trying to manufacture consensus on the related subject(s). There's more than one article of concern for the pending COIN discussion. But it looks like sock puppets for alumni to me. JFHJr () 00:07, 1 May 2024 (UTC)

Hi! I saw this cleanup. Given the existence of List of Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance candidates for the 2024 Indian general election, is the draft acting as a sock catcher? Yavarai/Michaellko

Just wondering about this one. I requested an admin RM of Vijay Pal (politician) to salted Vijay Pal yesterday, wrongly thinking that it had previously been about a film director. No, another admin said the last one was about a politician, but moved it anyway. You previously deleted that in 2018, " Mass deletion of pages added by कलमकार per G5".

The same new account Meetupinfo (autocreated 25 April) has in a batch of politician article creations yesterday recreated Anil Parashar (same mass G5 by you as Vijay Pal) at Anil Parashar (politician), and Vipul Dubey at Vipul Dubey (politician): that one was G5'd by User:Explicit as a sock of User:Syed amjad08. Topic focus of Meetupinfo is the same as both masters: Indian politics, and Yavarai was especially focused on Uttar Pradesh.

Prior to ENwiki autocreation, they were unusually busy with precocious edits at Wikidata (primary account, created 24 April), with 657 manual edits there so far. I started looking at their oldest edits, which were all for articles that were AFD'd then recreated, or other iffy creation history, and gave up when my head began to ache.

Logs will obviously be stale for User:Michaellko, but not for User:Syed amjad08 (last SPI March 2024). Do you think this is worth an SPI? And if so, then for which master? Thanks for any advice. Wikishovel (talk) 10:14, 2 May 2024 (UTC)

I made it easier for you, deciding that they are more like Michaellko than Syed amjad08, although Meetupinfo's English appears to be more limited. Pretty obvious sock, though, so if I've gotten the wrong master, I'm not all that fussed about it.--Bbb23 (talk) 13:35, 2 May 2024 (UTC)

Reverting Speedy Deletion of Sacks and Co.

Hello. I noticed that you reverted my wp:speedy recommendation for Sacks and Co. and I'd just like to understand why. The article has no inline citations as references. It is clearly promotional in that the only link is to the firm's website. Further, the article does not establish that the subjects meets wp:n. That is why I selected G11 and A7. If I am mistaken or unclear about this, please take a moment and let me know why. If you think it would be better suited for wp:prod, why would you not recommend that, rather than simply decline the edit? I look forward to your insight.Volcom95 (talk) 03:19, 6 May 2024 (UTC)

The G11 was completely misplaced, but, as I stated in my edit summary, the WP:A7 was "borderline". You're welcome to take it to AfD. As an aside, sources - or the absence of them - are largely irrelevant to A7 ("The criterion does not apply to any article that makes any credible claim of significance or importance even if the claim is not supported by a reliable source or does not qualify on Wikipedia's notability guidelines.").--Bbb23 (talk) 13:25, 6 May 2024 (UTC)

Could you take a look at this SPI

Hello @Bbb23! You had previously blocked TechnicianGB so I was wondering if you could check this [13]? I have been monitoring for behavioral evidence close to a year now and it's obvious to me that they are all the same person. Would you mind taking a deeper look? Thank you! Sockpuppet advice

Hi Bbb23, I would appreciate your advice on how to proceed with this issue:

It looks to me as though User:Cirt – a user who you permanently blocked – has created another sock-puppet: user:Polygnotus.

This user came to my attention with two posts on September 25th, 2023: [14] and this [15], claiming NPOV violations while demonstrating a clear personal POV on the subjects by describing Landmark as a "weird cult." Having a history of less than 100 days active editing at that point, Polygnotus demonstrated a sophisticated grasp of WP procedures and practices which it is not plausible to have acquired in that time. Also an extensive and very detailed knowledge of the editing on these subjects over the past 20 years, and of the editors involved.

The editing pattern prior to coming to prominence last September looks like an attempt to game the system by artificially building an appearance of significant involvement. Around 3,100 of those edits were done in a six-week period between September 8th and October 22nd, 2022, and are almost all 0, 1 or 2 letter edits, done in bursts of one to five hours per day at a rate of 6 - 10 edits per minute(!).. [16] Then the account was largely inactive over the next 10 months, with just 18 edits in that time, followed by about 200 during August and early September 2023.

Since then, I have observed tendentious editing on the Landmark and Werner Erhard articles, including extensive edit-warring. For instance, this deletion was repeated several times without any constructive discussion or explanation: [17]

The phrasing and style are strongly reminiscent of Cirt, especially when aggressively confronting other contributors or resorting to wikilawyering. In any case, the editing pattern is not at all normal for a new editor, regardless of whether the sockmaster is Cirt or any of the other editors who have been editing negatively on these pages over the years.

What actions do you recommend? Nwlaw63 (talk) 15:48, 6 May 2024 (UTC)

If you think the user is a sock, file a report at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Cirt.--Bbb23 (talk) 16:00, 6 May 2024 (UTC)
thanks Nwlaw63 (talk) 16:35, 6 May 2024 (UTC)
Hm I remember Gilbertine goldmark (talk · contribs) who was also interested in boardgames and defending Landmark. Polygnotus (talk) 16:36, 6 May 2024 (UTC)

Teenagers who never do anything useful and just sign each other's guestbooks all day

Do we really need to be indeffing them for it, though? It seems harmless, and some of them may become productive editors. jp×g🗯️ 03:45, 7 May 2024 (UTC)

Sock

Hi Bbb23,

This user Jessephu edited an article on Ben Okri's book and left an edit summary saying, "edited #everybookitsreader". Probably was a new user. Here again, Olaasunbo edited that page I why same or almost edit summaries here and here. However, I don't think these same user has done bad with it or maybe didn't know the implication og shocking. I'll suggest giving them a warn or blocking the alternative. Regards. Safari ScribeEdits! Talk! 11:09, 7 May 2024 (UTC)

@SafariScribe@Bbb23 i am sorry about this, i was logged out y the network over here, hence the mistake. will take note. Jessephu (talk) 11:14, 7 May 2024 (UTC)
@Jessephu, the thing there is that you have to disclose all other accounts you've created and list them here so that Bbb23 will help analyse them and block them as well (it is his decision). You will be left with one account to avoid socking. Safari ScribeEdits! Talk! 11:17, 7 May 2024 (UTC)
Olaasunbo is a new account actually which does not belong to me , was taking the user on how to edit on Wikipedia Jessephu (talk) 11:21, 7 May 2024 (UTC)
I will leave Bbb23 to see that. I have no talk here. I will also advise, if it belongs to you, disclose that. Safari ScribeEdits! Talk! 11:26, 7 May 2024 (UTC)
@SafariScribe thanks for the advice tho I really appreciate Jessephu (talk) 11:29, 7 May 2024 (UTC)
