Thank you today for UEFA Euro 2020 Final, introduced (in 2021): "This article is about the final of Euro 2020, the football tournament which took place a few months ago (even though it's 2021!). As someone from England, this was a tough one to write about - it was first major final that the team have reached in my lifetime, and with England holding the lead into the second half it looked for while like it might be our year. It wasn't to be though, the curse of the penalty shootout struck again! @Levivich: thank you very much, that's definitely appreciated and I'm glad you approve of the POTDs. I'm quite enjoying being back doing that at the moment, it's a fun way to learn about diverse topics I hadn't looked into before, and finding appropriate sources for the blurbs. I'm not surprised people are clicking, because the pics are quite noticeable. After like a couple weeks of daily "ooh, good pic", I had to go and look up who to thank :-) I particularly appreciate the variety, like Human genome, Hair Like Mine, Warthog, it shows off awesome breadth of the encyclopedia. @Theleekycauldron: tee hee, yes, always nice to see a familiar name when working through things like that... It seems a long time ago now that I wrote this one, but it's still very satisfying to know that my work on such an important topic is getting lots of views. I really need to find some time to develop another such topic at some point, I've had Kenya on my radar as a possibility... it's a lot more work than soccer finals but definitely more impactful! Thanks for clarifying matters. I wasn't aware of this bureaucratic jargon. Doesn't this specialized use of the words "area" and "district" need to be clarified, beyond the use of a link?. Rwood128 (talk) 00:00, 25 February 2023 (UTC)

@Rwood128: thanks for the message. To be honest I'm not sure there is a consistently-used term in reliable sources, which is probably also connected to the fact that these "areas" (or whatever other term you wish to use) are not really well-defined entities with consistent borders. And in the majority of cases, sources don't actually need to define what it is in the first place, they just use the name directly, e.g. "trapped inside Lakanal House in Camberwell, south London, on 3 July 2009". So using the term "area" probably isn't actually recommended by the London assembly or anyone else, but it certainly does exist in sources, for example: "Brunswick Park in the Camberwell area of London", "evening of November 28 in the Camberwell area of London". There are occasional references to it as a "district", for example [1], but personally I think "area" is a clearer term because it avoids any possible confusion with the Districts of England, for people outside London who aren't familiar with the fact that districts there are called boroughs. Note that this question was also discussed some time ago at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2012 September 27#Category:Districts of London, and reached the conclusion that "area" was the preferable term to use, across London. Quite a few articles still say "district" but I'd like to make them more consistent in using "area" throughout, if possible. Hope that makes some sense.
