Hello!

Hi Blofeld! Are you busy these days? Nothing heard from you....since november. Well, my semester exams are about to begin. So, please take care of this Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/Priyanka Chopra filmography/archive3. I may not look at it after 20th April. So, please look up to the nomination.—Prashant 08:42, 1 April 2014 (UTC)

You haven't even replied to my post. I guess you are not ignoring me. Why are you being so rude to me?—Prashant 10:54, 1 April 2014 (UTC)

Rude?? For a start I have a new email address and rarely check my old one. And I see nothing in your post here which warrants a reply. I'm usually pretty busy on here aren't I? So you've nommed it for FL and your exams are about to begin. What did you expect me to say?♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:02, 1 April 2014 (UTC)

If Prashant leaves Wiki (at least till his sem exams finish), who will take over his impending GA reviews? Kailash29792 (talk) 11:11, 1 April 2014 (UTC)

If he knew he was going to be busy why did he snap up reviews and nominate?♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:12, 1 April 2014 (UTC)

Well, I will finish GA review. Don't worry about them. But, FLC....My w=exam will take 15 days. Ill be here on 9th May after my exam ends.—Prashant 06:25, 2 April 2014 (UTC)

re;DYK for Amy Garnett

Hey, it's April Fools Day! Though I'm sure that anyone who watches rugby would understand the context given that hooker is a rugby position. It's those who don't watch rugby where the interesting responses will come from. The C of E God Save the Queen! (talk) 09:02, 1 April 2014 (UTC)

... that Andy deserves mentioning in the DYK stats and a medal, and that I believe that you would be perfect to handle it? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:07, 1 April 2014 (UTC)

LOL. Me give Pigsonthewing an award, and DYK at that?? Really??♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:09, 1 April 2014 (UTC)

Really ;) You are the most experienced DYK person by sheer number of DYK, and you can tell the ironic quality of a line such as "DYK ... that Ben Gunn, imprisoned 32 years for killing a friend when he was 14, earned a Master of Arts degree in peace and reconciliation?", written by an editor facing to be banned, - peace and reconciliation, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:38, 1 April 2014 (UTC)

I am, but I have nothing to do with DYK anymore!♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:00, 1 April 2014 (UTC)

Emma Thompson

Sorry I forgot to tell you but I finished the review for Emma Thompson yesterday. The GAR page is here. Seriously, this is getting embarrassing that my GAR's for you are so short! ;-D Don't worry, they're not all that short - my best reviews were Dorset and Greece, they're very long! The only problems I found with Emma Thompson were some minor copyediting issues, an unreferenced section and some references in the lead. Regards Jaguar 12:09, 2 April 2014 (UTC)

Sorry for coming back late as I've had a busy night. You'll be happy to know it passed speedily. To be fair it should have passed straight away if it weren't for those minor issues, but anyway well done on building a good article! I feel almost ashamed that the GAR was so short, try nominating something like this and I promise I will give a longer review LOL! ;-D Jaguar 20:41, 2 April 2014 (UTC)
Congratulations on another important GA! I have nominated it for DYK here, but I suspect you can suggest better alts? Thanks, Matty.007 09:00, 3 April 2014 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

The Original Barnstar
It can't have been easy to bring Emma Thompson to GA-status, so nice job! It's a nice complement to her seminal project, Sense and Sensibility. Keep up the great work! Ruby 2010/2013 21:23, 2 April 2014 (UTC)
@Ruby2010: Thanks, although User:Loeba deserves 80% of the credit (at least). That's a wonderful article on Sense and Sensibility BTW!!♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:05, 3 April 2014 (UTC)

Yup, I'll work on that tonight. Thinking the book should arrive any day now, which would be helpful for some of the rest of the article. --Rosiestep (talk) 13:40, 3 April 2014 (UTC)

Tephrosia apollinea

I don't know if you've seen those messages on my talk page but I'm just letting you know that Tephrosia apollinea speedily passed the GAN. Not only was it the world's fastest GA review but I think the speed on which it got promoted needs some recognition LOL! I also think it's one of Wikipedia's shortest GA's - there's a list of them someone but I can't find it. The comments can be found on its review page if you're interested! Great to see you working on Carole Lombard. Some time ago I started Book:Carole Lombard as a complete overview. Are those books normally included in articles? Agathoclea (talk) 18:24, 4 April 2014 (UTC)

@Agathoclea: Yeah she's amazing, one of my favourite actresses. Not too familiar with Book: so I don't know. Article was already pretty good but just needed a bit of work for GA. Bringing Up Baby would already be at GA if it wasn't for the peer review!♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:44, 4 April 2014 (UTC)

Hey Dr.! I just finished reviewing Virginia House and have left my comments and suggestions at Talk:Virginia House/GA1. Question

First thanks for all your contributions to The Rocky Horror Picture Show. I only bother to stop by because I wanted to ask if you really felt that the mention of the tank and dummy from Revenge of Frankenstein should be in the lede? I don't want to just remove that much because I am uncertain.--Mark Miller (talk) 09:41, 5 April 2014 (UTC)

@Mark Miller: I think the lede should effectively summarize the article, so many filming locations and elements of production I think is necessary. However, I agree in part that it might seem odd to focus on that one feature. I'll probably replace it with some info about the costumes. Don't worry, I'll have something sorted in due course!♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:44, 5 April 2014 (UTC)

Tephrosia apollinea

There are too many sections and splits for such a small article and now it doesn't meet the GA criteria. There is also a citation needed tag! The article was far better when you nominated it! Jaguar 16:23, 9 April 2014 (UTC)

Oryx eat them. p.227 So do Uromastyx ornata [1], maybe. The Arabs call it called Dhafra.[2] In Israel they call it טפרוסיה נאה and it flowers from February to August.[3] In Canada it flowers in February and March [4], maybe. It is one of the dominant plants in the Succulent Shrublands of Sokotra.[5] Arabs use its leaves for medicinal purpose.[6] At least, they do in Abu Dhabi.[7] A study found that pseudosemiglabrin extracted from the aerial parts of T. apollinea exhibited dose-dependent antiproliferative effect on most of the tested cancer cell lines.[8] If your camel has ticks in its ears, you might try pouring in powdered bark mixed with water.[9] You probably knew all that. • I thought you would wish you hadn't. Camels bite and kick. Aymatth2 (talk) 18:41, 9 April 2014 (UTC)

Can you believe that the super experienced GA producing plant project still think it is start-C class? Compare it so Tephrosia socotrana for instance. Show me a better article on the Internet of this obscure species. I'd say 36 sources is pretty remarkable for such a topic even if they're almost entirely from tiny snippets. Five years ago all you'd have got is the database entries. It's sort of like expecting Abuwtiyuw to have the content you'd expect in King Tut or Giza or something.♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:03, 9 April 2014 (UTC)

You are not going to believe this: look at the viewing figures in the two days since it came off DYK! Matty.007 08:52, 21 April 2014 (UTC)

Quite a lot, although if you compare 15,000 with the 1 million or so people who hit the main page every day, not that many really.. Still, for DYK that's a lot and will probably be high on the record list of views?♦ Dr. Blofeld 08:54, 21 April 2014 (UTC)

High in the month, if memory serves me right it needs over 20,000 in the day(s) it was up, so the 15,000 or so here isn't enough. I was struck by the fact it got more views after coming off the main page, in the last four days, 2 have been DYK days, but the other 2 have had really high views for no obvious reason. Right now, 114/126 of the links on the article are dead and I am focusing on fixing them right now in hopes of getting it to Featured List status. In light of the school sites sometimes moving the pages around, I was wondering if it would be acceptable to use government sources instead on the school pages, as I don't see them being moved or going dead anytime soon. Would that be acceptable, or should I go ahead and format the same way as the other featured articles? Thanks! Kevin Rutherford (talk) 00:05, 19 April 2014 (UTC)

Question for you: in the UK, are "town hall" and "Council Offices" used interchangeably? This mentions an "iron plaque" depicting Noddy and Big Ears, but it doesn't show it. It hints that the plaque is an official form of recognition, meaning the town would most likely have sought permission first. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 11:31, 21 April 2014 (UTC)

Yes, they can refer to both, although in my town the county council offices are in a newer building. I'd imagine that they have permission to use the images.♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:35, 21 April 2014 (UTC)

With nice people like you (your edits on Nefyn & District Golf Club etc), I feel Wiki will improve. My article on the golf course was taken down from Wiki within minutes of it being created, without any discussion. Can we not change this horrible way of working, so that new editors are looked after positively, rather being whacked across the head with a golf club every time they press the Save button? Friendly farewell message

Hi there, friend. I'm a great admire of you, so before I leave Wikipedia, I wanted to tell you about a very good movie I've recently watched. It's called Dangerous from 1935 with Franchot Tone and Bette Davis. I'm not quite sure how notable the black-and-white movie is, so don't know if you've already seen it, but in case you haven't. All the best to you in the future, friend. :) Jonas Vinther (talk) 00:09, 23 April 2014 (UTC)

Farewell? Yes I've seen it, in fact I think I even saw that before The Little Foxes, Now, Voyager and The Letter. I'm a big fan of Bette Davis, arguably the best dramatic actress Hollywood has ever had.♦ Dr. Blofeld 08:46, 23 April 2014 (UTC)

Brick dust

Thanks. Dutch brick is a bit addictive - far more could be added. Brick-lined well is an adequate start, maybe. I am not sure how to deal with the third meaning. The right name is Stabilized earth block (SEB). There is a very US-oriented unsourced article on Compressed earth block (CEB). Usually the blocks are both compressed and stabilized to form CSEBs. One article is enough for all these blocks. Not sure if I have the interest or energy. Aymatth2 (talk) 19:38, 25 April 2014 (UTC)

@Aymatth2: As suspected the Dutch brick article is now a fine (and beautifully illustrated) article and reflects what is written in sources. I hope you don't mind but I redirected one into the brick-lined well which is in a better context. I don't think you really need the dab page so I put a hat note at the top and also redirected the dab page. Everything looks sorted now.♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:49, 25 April 2014 (UTC)

  • The World Bank award for the Dutch Brick machine, and the Chinese machines, are nothing to do with well-lining. They are for making ersatz bricks out of earth and concrete for building cheap houses. The meaning is much closer to Compressed earth block. I moved some content there for that reason. I will rearrange the redirects, There are three completely different meanings. Aymatth2 (talk) 23:30, 25 April 2014 (UTC)

That's better, and neater at the top now as well.. Dutch bond or Flemish bond should probably have it's own article too, it's currently a redirect. Quite important in architecture.♦ Dr. Blofeld 05:07, 26 April 2014 (UTC)

Eskimo

Eskimo (film) is all converted! Now I'm hungering for an Eskimo pie ice cream.... - Tim1965 (talk) 20:51, 25 April 2014 (UTC)

European films

Thanks. I appreciate all the work you've done over the years as well. Lord Cornwallis (talk) 23:32, 25 April 2014 (UTC)

A bit of mixture. I was studying dictators and cinema a couple of years ago so I have quite a few books on the era (I mean to do some Soviet articles next) and I use google books to fill in the rest. Thanks for the info on Wikimedia, thats very useful to know. I might use it when I come to some of the gaps in my existing sources. Lord Cornwallis (talk) 13:01, 26 April 2014 (UTC)

Sagan laureates

Added a bit to Mangala Sharma, and I created Ljiljana Raicevic. Just saw your note about Eliza Walker (physician); how'd I miss that? Added one (and resorted) the redlink group at RBN. --Rosiestep (talk) 16:06, 26 April 2014 (UTC)

You read my mind! Yes, it should have its own article. --Rosiestep (talk) 16:19, 26 April 2014 (UTC)

Salt Cathedral of Zipaquirá

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Stephen Thraves, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Famous Five and ITV (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

QRE Plaza

some 77,000 square feet (7,200 m2) of storage space? Are you sure? Should it not be "floor space"? The Banner talk 14:08, 30 April 2014 (UTC)

77,000 Gross floor area (GFA) yup. Thanks for pointing that out. I meant the same thing but storage space is misleading, agreed.♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:45, 30 April 2014 (UTC)

The other Le Mez

For a brief while in the late 1970s, the beloved actor J. Le Mez was eclipsed in public attention by an overweight carpet salesman of the same name. He was one of those accused with the politician Jeremy Thorpe of conspiracy to murder, in a cause célèbre that immediately preceded the arrival in power of Mrs Thatcher. A rather less appealing Le Mez, I'm bound to say. I've written up the whole tawdry tale as another in my "political scandal" series: the Thorpe affair, now at peer review. Any comments there would be welcome. Brianboulton (talk) 16:46, 30 April 2014 (UTC)

@Brianboulton: Excellent job. I'll try to look tomorrow or Friday.♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:17, 30 April 2014 (UTC)
