Germanicus (disambiguation) → Germanicus (cognomen) – Move this page to a new page with the (cognomen) disambiguator, but leave behind not a redirect but a stripped-down version of this page containing only the "Other" section (if the closer pings me then I'll do that). • Oppose, Germanicus Mantica and Germanicus of Smyrna aren't cognomen. A DAB is needed. If you want a separate cognomen article, then maybe that could be done, but the DAB article would still be needed.--Bob not snob (talk) 09:27, 23 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
    • @Bob not snob: I agree. To be clear, my proposal retains a disambiguation page for entries not suitable for the cognomen article, like the ones you suggest (so in fact more than just the Other section - sorry). Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 08:11, 27 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
      • @Shhhnotsoloud:, some of the Romans should still be listed here. I don't think a move discussion is the right procedure. If you think Germanicus (cognomen) is a valid article, you can simply create it. The DAB has to remain anyway, and probably will list many of the Romans in the cognomen article.--Bob not snob (talk) 06:53, 28 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment: why do we need an article about the cognomen? Its meaning is fairly transparent; only the Claudii used it regularly (and all of them are listed in their article), and while a number of later emperors used it now and then, it usually wasn't a regular or prominent part of their nomenclature: nobody's likely to be searching for them by using this name. To the extent that someone might want a list of all Romans (or other persons) who had the name, the disambiguation page seems to serve that purpose better than splitting off the Romans into their own page. If this cognomen really needs its own article—most cognomina don't have any—its creation probably shouldn't result in the elimination of this one. P Aculeius (talk) 14:06, 24 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Then what about "Germanicus (name)"? Obviously we can't use "Germanicus", since one of them is primary. But by using "cognomen" as a disambiguator, you exclude all of the non-Romans, whereas most of the Romans are either found under "Claudia gens" or are emperors rarely referred to by the name. "Germanicus (name)" would allow for all of the current contents. P Aculeius (talk) 13:36, 27 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
