Talk:Ferdowsi

Tajik script

The Persian language is pluricentric. It has 3 standardized vernacular versions and it uses 2 different scripts: Perso-Arabic in Iran and Afghanistan and Cyrillic in Tajikistan. Since the Tajik language is the same as the Persian language, and since the Tajik people share the same language and culture as the Persians, the Cyrillic spelling of the name should be mentioned in the article. Ferdowsi is considered a national poet of Tajikistan (or at least of the Tajik people). I do not understand why there is so much objection to the Cyrillic spelling. This is not a question of "Wikipedia consensus", since Wikipedia is not a democracy and is not meant to be democracy. It's about factual accuracy. The same goes to the word "firdows", which - without any doubt - is Arabic. It was adopted from Arabic into Persian after the Islamic conquest and the word is even used in the Quran. The ultimate origin of the word is Old Iranian. But it has no direct continuation from Old Iranian to modern Persian. It was transferred from Old Iranian to Aramaic and Hebrew, then entered Arabic (possible via Greek), and was adopted from Arabic into New Persian. The evolution is comparable to the modern Persian word "chopan" / "shepherd" which has a Middle Persian root, but in its modern form is an adopted word from Turkish. The original Persian word is "shabban", containing the original Indo-European "shab" (Engl. "sheep", Germ. "Schaf") and the Persian suffix "-ban" ("keeper of"). It was adopted by Turks and changed to "chopan", then it was re-adopted by modern Persian. --Lysozym (talk) 01:14, 21 February 2017 (UTC)Кирилица не имеет не какое отношение к персидоязычниками Бухарского эмирата то есть таджикам!Это писменност принимали в 20 веке -большевики -враги таджикского народа-и имел политический цель ради ослабление культура иранско-таджикскогопроисхождение и усилиение пантюркизма и пряма за 74 лет правление добились этого![reply]

Revert statue picture back please

Who changed the picture of Ferdosi? The old one was much better. A little taste in aesthetics goes a long way...Otherwise, thanks for the wonderful article.

I've improved the reference section. Still not perfect, but now the formatting is consistent and complies with wiki policy.--Esprit15d • talkcontribs 13:46, 31 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
