  • "with restrictions on African Americans participation in civic life" should be either "with restrictions on African Americans' participation in civic life" or "with restrictions on African American participation in civic life" normally I'd just correct, but it's kinda a style choice between the two and figured I'd leave it up to the main editor
    • Changed to the first recommendation.
  • "and the death of an African American man by beating." suggest "and the beating todeath of an African American man."
    • Changed to suggestion.
• Philadelphia in the early 1800s:
  • Suggestion only, not required, but perhaps change "grew as homes to both African Americans" to "grew as residences to both African Americans" to avoid the slight confusion possible with the fact that "home" can have two meanings - the "place" as well as "building" where folks live
    • Changed to "residences".
  • "had debuted a minstrel show featuring blackface actors playing Zip Coon at the Arch Street Theatre to much fanfare" - I'm going to assume that this particular role of Zip Coon was very racist and protrayed Blacks in a bad light? If so, we should probably explain this as the linked article isn't very helpful in determining this.

    • Reworded. Not sure how I missed the repetition there, but I deleted the repeated part from the second sentence.
• Aftermath:
  • "Damages ranged between $4,000 and $6,000." this is for the entire riot? Seems a bit low - can we get estimates for what this means in "current" money? Also, this reads a bit awkward - perhaps "Estimates for the damage done during the riot range from $4000 to $6000 " then give conversion?
    • Rephrased sentence, added inflation.
  • "(published in Annapolis, Maryland)" what does this bit do in helping us understand the riot? Otherwise it just seems like unnecessary verbiage
    • I included that to show the national coverage, but I suppose that's already captured in the name of the newspaper itself, so I removed it.
• I randomly googled three phrases and only turned up Wikipedia mirrors. Earwig's tool shows no sign of copyright violation.
