Presidents

I think we should create a list of University of Texas at Austin presidents first, then we can focus on individual bios. Thoughts? jareha (comments) 04:27, 15 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Removed the following from to-do, as it was a bit clunky there.

Sounds good. Rebelguys2 and I were trying to add academics to the List of University of Texas at Austin people page, to counterbalance the large previous emphasis on entertainers and sports stars. All of these folks qualify, but I agree that we should make the list first, then work on individual bios. Glad that we have this project now, so I don't have to make a note on 10 billion talk pages! — Scm83x talk 06:18, 15 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'd noticed these additions — great work there. As for your last point: it's exactly the reason this WikiProject was created. jareha (comments) 07:04, 15 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I've began work on this page at User:Rebelguys2/temp. I'd like to find some photos to scan in for each of these guys; I know the PCL has a lot of UT history resources. I'm still out of town, though, so it'll have to wait another day or two before I flesh out the intro paragraphs, find the photos, and post it up on the main namespace. — Rebelguys2 talk 06:45, 19 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ongoing edit wars

The Vince Young article seems to have stabilized. If the Wonderlic edit war returns, we can add it back to the to-do list. jareha (comments) 05:26, 15 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

School of Law

I just started the article University of Texas School of Law and I have begun the long process of dabbing all of those links from [[University of Texas]] School of Law to [[University of Texas School of Law]]. As you can imagine, this is a difficult task, so if you have sometime and AWB, give it a try. I'm doing it by creating a list using a Google search for "Texas law school". What do you all think of the article? Maybe we can get it to DYK on the Main Page? Hook 'em Horns! — Scm83x hook 'em 07:34, 9 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Great article. Using my supreme Google-fu, I've also gone through a number of articles with improper references to the School of Law and made the appropriate changes. jareha (comments) 23:56, 10 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The Drag

What about creating an article about Guadalupe Street with a section on The Drag? If a couple of us think such would be first: notable and second: a good idea, I'll have an article started today. jareha (comments) 23:56, 10 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I hope one of us has pictures somewhere that we could offer up for the article! Sounds good, but do you start it at Guadalupe Street or The Drag? — Scm83x hook 'em 00:03, 11 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Guadalupe Street, with The Drag at Guadalupe Street#The Drag. Hopefully I'll find Creative Commons-licensed photos on Flickr. If not, I'm sure we can whip something up. :) jareha (comments) 00:31, 11 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I think "The Drag" is what makes Quadalupe Street notable. Therefore, although I see Jareha's point about making the article on the overall street, it might be better to focus on just The Drag. Would else would we say about the rest of the street that would be notable? BTW, a specific Google Search ("the drag"+guadalupe) gets 24,000 hits. Enough to be notable in my book. Johntex\talk 00:37, 11 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'd place the article at Guadalupe Street for no other reason that that's the official street name. Guadalupe has enough content to stand on its own:
  • Quite a few notable buildings are located along Guadalupe (e.g. the Austin Public Library).
    • On this note, Guadalupe used to be Asylum Avenue, back before the Texas State Lunatic Asylum was renamed Austin State Hospital in 1925.
  • Also, something I haven't seen on Wikipedia, which could go in the article: a mention of the failed 2000 light rail plan, which would've traversed a good portion of Guadalupe.
jareha (comments) 00:52, 11 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I personally wouldn't think a street was notable just for having some (possibly) notbable buildings on it, but you sold me with the light-rail plan. We need a new article for DYK! Johntex\talk 01:13, 11 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yea, the latest DYK just left the main page, so we need a new one soon. We have to live up to this quote: "Seems to be part of a "Get as Many UTexas People in Wikipedia as You Can" campaign." ;-) — Scm83x hook 'em 01:21, 11 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Exactly - the unofficial motto of the Burnt Orange Brigade. Johntex\talk 01:29, 11 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
