I created the 2010 Bilecik train collision article yesterday. It's not been widely reported in English language sources, but is likely to be widely reported in Turkish language sources. Are there any members of this WikiProject who are able to expand the article? Mjroots (talk) 07:09, 4 January 2010 (UTC)

Certain important figures of Turkish cultural history appear in Wikipedia. But their names are usually distorted. Nasrudin for Nasrettin Hoca, Rumi instead of Mevlana, Mahmud al-Kashgari instead of Kaşgarlı Mahmut etc. Same is true for Great Seljuk Empire. Seeing that these non Turkish names are strictly kept, I tried to add Turkish versions in parathesis with the use of Lang-tr template. But even these names in parenthesis were immediately cleared out on the ground that these articles have nothing to do with Turkish. It seems somebody has these names in his or her watchlist. So, all I could do is to create some redirects. There is also a problem with the name İstanbul. Whenever there is a reference to the history of İstanbul, somebody immediatelly changes it to Constantinople. Even the name İstanbul in an article created by me has been moved to Constantinople. (eg. Treaty of Constantinople (1533)) I think the usage of proper Turkish names in Wikipedia should be discussed. (In my opinion proper names must not be translated.) I agree to this point, there are references to Istanbul as Constantinople even in some articles dating early 20th century. I think the specific names should be used considering their date and historical facts. yigit

Hi guys, a Bulgarian contributor has written an article about the Battle of Kardzhali of 1912, when the city became part of the Kingdom of Bulgaria. As we were unable to find any western or Turkish sources, the article relies mostly on Bulgarian descriptions of the skirmishes and the progress of the battle. It would be great if anybody can add Turkish references to the article, to ensure its neutral point of view. A couple of us have reviewed the article and we don't think it's POV in its description, but you never know.

Perhaps what is written about Matild Manukyan is common knowledge in Turkey and perhaps the references given in the article back it up. I am ignorant of Turkey and cannot read Turkish. Still, I worry that it might just be a smear by somebody who doesn't like her descendants. Even if the woman is dead, claims of the kind appearing in that article really require fine-grained sourcing, I think. Morenoodles (talk) 08:42, 8 February 2010 (UTC)

There seems to be an edit war going on this article.Talk:Caucasus_Campaign#removal_destruction_.26_effect_on_Ottoman_side_by_Armenian_nationalists It seems to be the aim is to removal all the references to the Destruction and Death inflicted on the Ottoman side is constantly removed from the article. These WP:POV edits makes the article claim all the destruction was on Armenians property and life. For the interested users. The description for Image:Van1 20 modified.jpg mentions "Berg Çadır Dağı", which in the TR wikipedia is called Artos. But Artos has a different meaning here, so should it be Artos (mountains) or Çadır Dağı? -- Jokes Free4Me (talk) 14:33, 28 February 2010 (UTC)

The article has been created in 2008 and the main emphasis has been given on DNA data. However the people of modern Turkey and Azerbaijan has been compared with ancient Xiongnu people who were thought to be the reference. This comparation shows a weak correlation. But the basis for this comparasion is not clear. The relation between Xiongnu people and early Turks is debatable. A DNA analysis based on the Oghuz people of the 8th cetury or even Turkic people of 6th century may be more reliable.

On the other hand the article doesn’t explain why Turkish is spoken in Turkey and Azerbaijan. Elite dominance theory is cited where the minority language is imposed on the majority. But this theory is irrevelant; because there is no indication of imposed language in the history and even the author notes that it is illogical to be able to change the entire language of a sedentary population. The article HIH Prince Konstantin V Mustafaev has been tagged for speedy deletion. The person claims to be part of the House of Osman of the Ottoman Empire. I cannot immediately verify the claims. The descendants don't know that we are writing translated information on Wikipedia, None of them claims anything. It's facts which were released by Turkish Archive and now we finishing last articles for translation.

The WikiProject Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons (UBLPs) aims to reduce the number of unreferenced biographical articles to under 30,000 by June 1, primarily by enabling WikiProjects to easily identify UBLP articles in their project's scope. There were over 52,000 unreferenced BLPs in January 2010 and this has been reduced to 32,665 as of May 16. A bot is now running daily to compile a list of all articles that are in both Category:All unreferenced BLPs and have been tagged by a WikiProject. Note that the bot does NOT place unreferenced tags or assign articles to projects - this has been done by others previously - it just compiles a list.

I am new to editing in Wikipedia and have only recently created an account. I intend to correct the many mistakes about the republic of Turkey.

The Malazgirt article in Wikipedia is definitely not NPOV as the Armenian author of the page has used the "Armenian Soviet Encyclopedia" as his/her references, this encyclopedia due to the emnity of Soviet and present day Armenia is highly suspect in it's information I have requested in the talk section of the page that a Turkish or internationally distributed encyclopedic reference be used. Also during the cold war at the time of the compilation of the encyclopedia the borders between Turkey and the U.S.S.R were effectively closed so the logic is how can then this encyclopedia be used as a factually corrent source of information if borders were closed preventing the free movement of both people & information?

The author of the page using the Armenian Soviet Encyclopedia claims "The Seljuks pillaged Manzikert itself, killed much of its population, and burned the city to the ground." which can be suspected of POV since another source that is not politically biased in the information it presents should have been used.

The author of the Malazgirt page also presents original research and claims by Robert Fisk about the supposed 'Yasilova Incident' given that the militaries involved being Turkey & the U.K have denied to talk or release statements regarding this alleged incident the sole party claiming that this incident ever occurred is Robert Fisk himself. The author of the Yasilova Incident page is also while using 6 references is in actuality using the single reference of the testimony of Robert Fisk as all references are reproductions of the same materials into different mediums (interview, book etc.).

On the following talk page Talk:Turkish_genocide which can be reached by typing the search criterion "Turkish genocide" I have indicated for someone who has the appropriate references to list the civilian losses of the Ottoman empire who are of Turkish descent during the period from the second balkan war right up to the Turkish war of independence.

I believe to not list the civilian losses experienced by the Ottoman empire during it's final years but to list claims by all others of the claimed civilian losses brought about by Ottoman military and para-militaries is a gross mis interpretation of history.

Can somebody please flesh that page out and list the civilian losses experienced by the Ottoman state during those years, the obvious one is civilian losses caused by foriegn powers but also civilian losses resulting from disease and hunger should also be listed. It would be a good idea to keep a watch over the above-mentioned articles and to those articles and categories related to these. Many edits made over these do not leave the impression of having been made in all serious, sound knowledge and good faith. Two category name change proposals were made recently and in none of these occasions, someone thought it useful to leave a note here to inform other users who might be interested. If moves and significant edits are made for Duchy of Głogów, it is normal that it should interest Poles primarily, if it is the case for the Republic of Texas, it is normal that Texans will play a key role in determining content and terminology. I'm crossposting this to both the Turkey and Football in hopes that someone from one or the other project will have knowledge to assist.

Two new short stubs have been added to the project. Turkish First Football League 1956–57 and Turkish First Football League 1957–58. These claim to be the first and second years of Football in Turkey. These appear to contradict the Süper Lig page and the 1959 Milli Lig page, both of which say that the league was formed in 1959. I do not personally have any information on whether there is a hoax in progress here, might the existing pages be incorrect, or what else might be responsible for the contradiction. I'm hoping that someone who actually knows what is going on here could assist in the handling of these two new pages. - TexasAndroid (talk) 13:05, 9 July 2010 (UTC)

Right now it appears that all districts are represented in the same article as the corresponding city for which the district is named. For starters, the geography really needs a size of the city versus the size of the district. If there is a large discrepancy, we really need to have an article for the district, separate from the city. Right now, the articles overlap. This is generally not desirable. An editor [2] put the verify tag here: Qeparo. I'm not sure why he put it there: he either suspects I falsified the source, or doubts that Halil Inalcik is a reliable source, I don't know. The Sûret is A Copy of the Fiscal Survey of the Sanjak of Albania in 1431 A.D. I have created together with Smallman12q a toolserver tool that shows a weekly-updated list of cleanup categories for WikiProjects, that can be used as a replacement for WolterBot and this WikiProject is among those that are already included (because it is a member of Category:WolterBot cleanup listing subscriptions). User:Takabeg is insisting that the Kurdish population [see Kurdish diaspora ] could be 40% as of 2010 and will be 50% of Turkey's population by 2025 using this source: http://www.wilsoncenter.org/subsites/ccpdc/pubs/kur/chap04.pdf The source states that in 1996 there was a 'fear expressed by the NSC was that Kurds would make up 40 pecent of the population by 2010, and 50 percent by 2025'. The source does not give that information; it merely uses another source: the Milliyet newspaper which reported this 'fear' [as it calls it] in December 18, 1996.Turco85 (Talk) 23:25, 11 November 2010 (UTC)

In this article it is exactly stated that "Anatolia remained multi-ethnic until the early 20th century (see the rise of nationalism under the Ottoman Empire). During World War I, the Armenian Genocide, the Greek genocide (especially in Pontus), and the Assyrian Genocide almost entirely eliminated the Armenian and Assyrian populations of Anatolia, as well as a large part of its ethnic Greek population."
