User:Guido den Broeder wishes to add information to the Vereniging Basisinkomen page, but since he is the treasurer he has a conflict of interest. Within WikiProject Companies I am trying to establish guidelines for all Lists of companies by country, the implementation of which would hopefully ensure a minimum quality standard and level of consistency across all of these related but currently disparate articles. The ultimate goal is the improvement of these articles to Featured List status. As a WikiProject that currently has one of these lists within your scope, I would really appreciate your feedback! Recently an additional class has become available for assessment. The C-class. (see Wikipedia talk:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/Assessment).
This class would cover the gap, perceived by many between start class and B class articles.
Addition to projects is voluntary.
What would this mean for us.

• B-class requirements are becoming stricter; ie more emphasis on accuracy, comprehensiveness, references and style.
• All current B and start class articles need to be re-evaluated as the C-class will contain several of those. (but we can take out time for that I think as there is no pressing urgency).

As you may have heard, we at the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial Team recently made some changes to the assessment scale, including the addition of a new level. The new description is available at WP:ASSESS.

• The new C-Class represents articles that are beyond the basic Start-Class, but which need additional references or cleanup to meet the standards for B-Class.
• The criteria for B-Class have been tightened up with the addition of a rubric, and are now more in line with the stricter standards already used at some projects.
• A-Class article reviews will now need more than one person, as described here.

Each WikiProject should already have a new C-Class category at Category:C-Class_articles. If your project elects not to use the new level, you can simply delete your WikiProject's C-Class category and clarify any amendments on your project's assessment/discussion pages. The bot is already finding and listing C-Class articles.

Hello all...

An image used in the Amersfoort article, specifically Image:Amersfoortse Kei.jpg, has a little bit of a licensing issue. The image was uploaded back when the rules around image uploading were less restrictive. It is presumed that the uploader was willing to license the picture under the GFDL license but was not clear in that regard. As such, the image, while not at risk of deletion, is likely not clearly licensed to allow for free use in any future use of this article. If anyone has an image that can replace this, or can go take one and upload it, it would be best.

I think this is a good way for our improvement drive. However we have to come to deal with the (by now) multiple priority lists.

In my view the expanded Vital Article list is not very reliable (look e.g, at the Olympics section that features about 90% US athletes), nor stable. It is currently undergoing non-reviewed rapid expansion from about 2,000 to its newly formed aim of 10,000. So I would be very hesitant to take that list as guiding. I think the 1000 article Wikipedia:Vital articles is more essential (and it does not fully copy Core topics.....). Arnoutf (talk) 15:05, 2 November 2008 (UTC)

None of the articles on the expanded list are among the 1,000 vital articles, so in my opinion Wikipedia:Vital articles is not very useful for this particular project. Perhaps a realistic subgoal for the articles above is improving them to B-class quality. – Ilse@ 15:21, 2 November 2008 (UTC)

Yup you are right. Yet the expanded list is not very satisficing to me as it is not (yet) well monitored and with a quick reading seems to present an American view of the world (both Gouda and Edam cheese but not Amsterdam, Polders or the Rhine rivers (which are in the 3rd list you quote).

Nevertheless I think these kind of priorities should be a standing improvement drive motivation. My approach would be to take the "Core-topic and List of articles every Wikipedia should have" articles and focus on these first. I think that one article per month (Collaboration of the month) with a set goal (e.g. from C-class to B-class) is more useful than the current Article Improvement Drive with one article of each assessment class. Recently I done alot of work on New Netherland, which is considered to be in the scope of the Netherlands project. Random and unwieldy, I believe it is begnning to take form, be better referenced, and cover the scope of story the provinical colony. Anyone who knows the correct area of Oost Gelre? The Dutch and English versions of Wikipedia say it's 83.34 km², the German version says 110,19 km². According to www.oostgelre.nl ([1]) the German version seems to be right Inteloutside2 (talk) 13:24, 4 January 2009 (UTC)

There is a current discussion over at Talk:United Kingdom over who stood alongside Britain in 1940 against the Axis. There is a dispute over the need of the word "unoccupied" in the sentence: At one stage in 1940, amid the Battle of Britain, it was the only unoccupied nation in Europe fighting the Axis. At issue is whether the forces of occupied nations such as Poland, Norway, the Netherlands, etc. should be acknowledged, or whether Britain was the only nation in Europe fighting the Axis at that point in time. It is stated in Hezbollah that the organisation is a proscribed terrorist organisation in Holland. Unfortunately the link is to a dead page on the foreign ministry site and the Dutch Wikipedia doesn't give a reference though confirms that Hezbollah is listed in the Netherlands. I've tried looking at the English pages on that site and those for the justice and interior ministries and anti-terrorism agency, but have been unsucessful. Googling for "lijst van terroristische organisaties" seems to come up with EU-related pages. I have, however, found this Dutch document[2]. Could a Dutch speaker please confirm by belief that the minister says that Hezbollah is proscribed in Holland and that the Dutch list hasn't been abolished in favour of the EU one? The letter you dug up is a rather relevant document as it contains the report of answers of the Minister of Foreign Affairs (cf Secretary of State in the US) to questions from the Dutch parliament on this issue.

I can briefly summarise the letter by the Dutch minister of October 08 (very rough translation)

Q1: Do you know Hezbollah is not on the EU list Ans1: Yes I do, the message is however only partially correct. The Netherlands DO consider Hezbollah a terrorist organisation. There is however no Dutch list, where Hezbollah is placed on.

Q2: Why is Hezbollah on the Dutch and UK list of terrorist organisations. Ans2: The AIVD (Dutch secret service) reported in 2004 that Hezbollah External Security Organisation is engaged in terrorism, and also that this branch, togehter with all other branches is a single organisation. Therefore the Netherlands considers all of Hezbollah a single organisation (which means the political branch is also part of the terrorist organisation - My remark Arnoutf). The Netherlands have stressed this point to the EU but it has not been taken up. The UK position is different. They classify the executive and military branch of Hezbollah on their list, but not the political branch (translation interpretation: While the Dutch do not distinguish between the branches).

Q3: What will you do to get Hezbollah on the EU list Ans3: In the light of new dialogue in Lebanon and everything like that an EU consensus is unlikely at this moment (very much summarised translation)

Q4: Can you state which organisation are on the EU list. Ans4: Yes that list is regularly published online and is freely available to all.

Summarised: There is no Dutch "list". However the Netherlands deviate from the EU in naming the whole Hezbollah organisation a terrorist organisation. (The British name executive and military terrorist). Reading from the tone of the letter you found, there seems no big movement to change that status quo. So I guess it is still valid.

I'm doing a rewrite of Kiliaen van Rensselaer (merchant) (see work space) and am running into (what I find to be) odd naming conventions. One of the people to be mentioned in the article is "Wolfert van Bijler Wijnandsz", but this person is referred to only as "van Bijler" after a full-name introduction in the source text. What is the "Wijnandsz" part? Also, Kiliaen's first wife is referred to as "Hillegond van Bijler Jansdr." when introduced in the source, but then only referred to as "van Bijler" later on. I've seen Jandsdr. elsewhere. What does it mean?

One more thing: I'd like to include a pronunciation guide in all articles related to the name "Rensselaer". Here in Rensselaer County (my home), and at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (my alma mater), we pronounce "Rensselaer" as either RENS-lur or Rens-uh-LEER. Can anyone confirm if this is indeed how it's pronounced in Dutch and whether or not the pronunciation may have changed since Kiliaen van Rensselaers's time? Hello Wadester, that's an impressive article you're starting/rewriting! A Dutchman probably better known with you in America then here in Holland. Makes interesting reading. For the Dutch (archaic) naming conventions: Wijnandsz is short for Wijnandszoon, which means "son of Wijnand", in other words: Wolfert van Bijler had a father named Wijnand. Correspondingly Jansdr is short for Jansdochter, "daughter of Jan", Hillegond's father was named Jan.

For the pronunciation, Rensselaer is an obsolete spelling (only still used in names). The letter e was formerly used to indicate a long vowel-pronunciation of the preceding vowel, i.e. Rensselaer would in current Dutch spelling be written as Rensselaar and it is pronounced accordingly: Rens-uhl-ARE. I'm confused by the naming conventions of this project, especially in light of WP:UE. The project doesn't seem to be using any particular convention at all, with some articles using English translations and some preferring the original Dutch. In the field of government, for instance, why Rijkswaterstaat, when its parent department is Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management and its subsidiaries are Water board (The Netherlands)? In the arts and education, why Rijksmonument (Netherlands) and Rijksmuseum, and Nederlands Scheepvaartmuseum — but Naturalis (with a bolded in-article lead preferencing the full English name), Leiden University, and National Museum of Ethnology? The Rijksmonument article is at that title because that is what they are. "State monument" is a translation, but that is not what they are called. The Rijksmuseum also is its proper name. Many Dutch buildings which have articles on the English Wikipedia are likely to be listed as Rijksmonuments. The challenge is to find a reliable reference for the listing, and add the articles to Category:Rijksmonuments and the List of Rijksmonuments. Any members willing to assist in this? Just recently, another national map has been added to the info box of Dutch municipalities. But they already have suitable locator maps. In my view above arguments show beyond reasonable doubt that (a) There is no larger Wikipedia consensus that pin maps are to be used on all municipalities. • Two maps in an infobox is too much; especially since the information is largely duplicated.
• The current maps are smaller, and provide a location in the Netherlands, as well as the shape of the municipalities. Therefore these maps are preferable (my take on infoboxes is that they can only be informative if they provide at first glance all the information, and should therefore preferably have a maximum size of 1 screen). Disagree. It is pretty important to have a national locator of the actual city within a country. The United States is the biggest culprit of failing to comply with this because of bias, most people around the world have no idea where maps of counties actually are within America. The reason why those global cities don't is that they are such huge cities that they form conurbations and major urban districts which are better shown as city provinces on a national map rather than a dot like London. Small municipalities and towns differ in this respect. As for using two maps one for municipality regionally and national locator of a town or city itself is pretty standard on here. This might not be the case for the municipal maps but the very localised maps of villages which don't show where it actually is in the netherlands are in desperate need of a national locator. If you disgaree and ar elikely to revert me I cannot be bothered to edit and try to improve the articles about villages and towns like Blerick which didn't have any maps at all. • First, the existing municipal locator maps provide enough surroundings to be able to locate it within national context (IMO). As for Blerick, it is an unincorporated place, so obviously it will never have a municipal locator map. Second, national locator maps are not standard use at all. Especially in larger countries, only the regional or provincial map is shown. Third, our biggest concern is that it is overlapping info and makes the boxes so huge, especially since national maps are often so large in themselves. This clutters the info and makes the "at-a-glance" stats ineffective. You're wrong in this respect. If you browse articles about towns in any country in the world the vast majority use national pin maps. The more Angophone countries however, particularly if larger tend to use regional maps. Netherlands is a relatively small country so using a national map is fine, particularly if it about a village which has no other map or the village map is very localised and not very good for identifying where in the Netherlands it is. I have no objection to only using the municipal maps in articles about municipalities as they do give some indcator of national location. However for towns and villages which either have no map or have alocalised village locator which does little to help the reader where it actually is then I would say failure to use the pin map would be inappropriate. I still would not exactly describe a regional municpal map and a pin map as "overkill" you obviously haven't seen some articles where they use three maps, that is overkill Himalayan 10:37, 30 September 2009 (UTC)

Greetings. For our image of the Dutch flag at Wikipedia, we use the document "NEN 3055:1958 - Kleuren voor textielgoederen - Vlaggekleuren - Rood en blauw" for the colors. I also found that there is a similar document called "NEN 3203:1958 - Kleuren voor textielgoederen - Vlaggekleuren - Oranje" that is available to the public for 21,60 Euro (the first doc is available at that price). I'm wondering if anybody that speaks Dutch could comment on the origin of the name of a local creek called the Poesten Kill. Kill is obviously old Dutch for creek, but I have conflicting evidence regarding the first part of the name. One of the sources states that Poesten means "frothy", "foamy", or "bubbly" in old Dutch. (The other source says it comes from the name of a local farmer, which is probably more likely.) The article nl:Senegambia (17e eeuw) seems notable (though not totally sure what to call it in English). It's short, but somehow the way it's written makes it nigh-incomprehensible in GoogleTranslate. If any Dutch speaker wants to take a stab at it, it may be worth having on en.wiki. I have had two battles regarding links from the English language Wikipedia to articles in the Dutch language Wikipedia. In both cases, other editors have attempted to revoke the links that I placed in the list of winners of the Elfstedentocht to the Dutch articles where, in my judgement, there would never be an English language article. Do members of this group have any comments?

FYI - A massive discussion is taking place at a Request for comment (RfC) Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Biographies of living people. About 50k of articles are currently unreferenced and therefore in danger of deletion, some of those are on Dutch subjects. I have added the proper template on the main page to have a bot generate the cleanup list after some days (hopefully). The cleanup link in the title above (now a redlink) will then point to a list of unreferenced articles with the WikiProject Netherlands template on its talk page. Please revise articles on the list, when possible,

1. review them for contentious unsourced information pr WP:BLP concerns
2. add references (you may e.g. lift references from the Dutch page, if that page exists)
3. remove the {{BLP unsourced}} template from the article.

A while back, somebody depopulated the Category:Dutch knights, removing baseball players Sidney Ponson, Calvin Maduro, and Gene Kingsale, all of whom have received the Order of Orange-Nassau, in the grade Knight. The edit summary said "A decoration is not a knighthood." Soon afterward, the Category:Dutch knights was deleted for being empty.
