The article Belarusian cuisine was created three years ago, on 1 January 2006, by User:Alies' Biely, who did not provide any sources for the content, although it looked like a straightforward cut and paste job. The content remained essentially unchanged over time, except for wikifying the format, adding pix, and making some substantive changes very recently. As of today, there is not a single reference in this fairly long article. When I started reading through the article, I came across terms that could not be verified (e.g., poliuka, kamy, pauguski). On the other hand, I did not see in the article names of standard Belarusian dishes that are listed on any Belarusian cooking web site (in English or Russian). This leads me to suspect the validity of the entire article. Any comments or suggestions from the food experts on what to do? --Zlerman (talk) 04:28, 4 January 2009 (UTC)

I would like the author of the Wheat Germ Oil entry to check whether it is correct to say that wheat germ oil contains the fatty acids with the percentage composition shown in the table. Many vegetable oils consist of mixtures of esters of fatty acids (triglycerides), with low concentrations of the acids themselves. Is this also the case with wheat germ oil, and is the listing of 'fatty acids' per se therefore an error ? I suspect that it is, and that the table is misleading and should be corrected. I suspect also that this type of error will be found in many Wikipedia entries on food oils and fats, and that a radical review of these entries should be made to remove such errors systematically. For example the entry on Olive Oil contains the following statement under 'Composition' - 'Olive oil is composed mainly of oleic acid and palmitic acid and other fatty acids', and a table claims that 80% of olive oil is oleic acid. These statements are absolutely incorrect; the latter is a garbalised version of the correct statement that in olive oil 'nearly 80% of the acid esterified is oleic acid' (Organic Chemistry, B.J. Stokes, 2nd ed., Edward Arnold, London, 1961, p277). The Wikipedia entry on Linseed Oil contains a table which includes a similar error. I have not checked other Wikipedia entries on food oils and fats, but it is likely that many of them contain errors of this kind, and the entire collection of entries is probably unreliable. Hi Jeremy - thank you for your comment. Unfortunately I am not qualified to undertake this task. I am a humble electrical engineer who happens to have done some research on the dielectric properties of oils, and therefore know something about the composition and chemistry of a limited range of substances. I feel that it is primarily the onus of individual authors to see to the accuracy of their writings - the responsibility for accuracy lies with them. The authority I have quoted is an antique A Level school text, studied by 16-18yr olds in the UK; that is the level of chemistry involved. I want to add a dietary/product information section to beer articles and brewery articles in regards to their beer range detailing such aspects as vegetarian and coeliac suitability etc. My proposal has faced some considerable opposition by those who consider the information irrelevant. I am trying to canvass opinion to gauge the strength of support my suggestion has. I have laid out my propsal here and would welcome any opinions: Dietary information section on beer/brewery articles

Hi all. I was writing to ask that some of the more experienced people go look at the MSG page again. A fellow new editor tried to insert a pretty balanced statement but was harshly attacked. Admittedly, him and I started defending pretty viciously too (me more than him). I have promised to back down and learn the rules. I must admit that from all this mud-slinging my reputation is pretty weak and I need to back off no matter what happens. I am not asking for anyone to agree with me, just to look over the health section of the article critically and see what you think. At this point the article still seems pretty incomplete. I am not advocating the position that it IS harmful or IS NOT harmful--just that there are two sides to the issue and both have research in peer-reviewed journals to back up their points. Unfortunately, right now it seems pretty one-sided--when we can get any health information included at all, it doesn't seem neutral at all. I'm not sure if an article needs to be reevaluated every time there is a content dispute. This request seems like a sideways way to try and get more people to join in on the debate, while biasing people by stating your side of things before they get to see the evidence for themselves. That seems a bit harsh. Asking for input isn't a bad thing. A request without the inclusion of the editor's own take might have been preferrable, but I don't see anything too unseemly here and I don't think we should jump on those seeking input. List of Chinese inventions and Fork have two different answers. The “List of Chinese inventions” states that the Chinese invented the fork. While on the “Fork” page, it states that the Japanese invented the fork. I am not able to verify the claim. Thanks, Marasama (talk) 23:14, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

Hi. This article was automatically tagged as part of the food and drink project - I believe this is incorrect. I'm guessign it was tagged because fo the 'Soy products' category but, in this case, I don't believe it's appropriate as the article is about a method of measuring protein content and not about an actual foodstuff. I've been bothered for a while about the separation of candy and confectionery. As far as I can tell from googling and the definition in dictionaries, the former is merely a more colloquial form of the latter. There are some pretty determined attempts to stress the uniqueness of the term "candy" in the wording of candy and in various merge discussions, but I don't see any support for it in the form of concrete evidence.

Sweets, sweetmeats and lollies (all terms that are more common outside of North America) are already redirected to confectionery, so I don't see why candy should be treated differently. Your thoughts?

Maybe we can merge those and have the candies article (now moved to list of candies) moved to candy. Obviously an article about candies would be good to have and people should be able to find this information. ChildofMidnight (talk) 17:06, 27 January 2009 (UTC)

Merging the information to confectionery sounds like the best solution. That would be the main article on candy/sweets/lollies/etc and would be the most NPOV-compatible solution. A listing of various types of confectionery would most be most appropriate at list of confectionery.

Will someone please do some research on this?? Root beer is NOT the same as sarsaparilla! The former is made with sassafras, whereas the latter is made with... you guessed it, sarsaparilla. They are completely different plants, and completely different beverages. Yet, there seems to be a great deal of confusion between the two... quite saddening, really. I was wondering if this project would be happy to have food-related videogames tagged with the project's template? Specifically Chocolatier (video game) and Cooking Mama, but also looking at games less directly related like BurgerTime (and clones), Pizza Frenzy and Fast Food Dizzy. It would be good to know one way or the other since food and drink has become a very large theme in the casual sector and there's potentially a lot of articles which would prompt the same question. This issue has been addressed when the tagging was done. The problem was that items that were not food were categorized as being food, such as video games, even those about food. Please just remove the tag. --Jeremy ( Blah blah...) 06:27, 13 February 2009 (UTC)

It seems to be rather short sided to put one person's negative opinion in the Bacon Explosion article when millions across the web have embraced and loved the recipe.

I believe what the above comment refers to is the opinion about the taste of the (frankly disgusting) Bacon Explosion, found at the bottom of the article from the unnamed, non-notable "Headless Blogger."
