A renumbering happened between the 1927 and 1928 maps. The State Highway Department was reorganized in mid-1927, so it was probably then.

  • Bankhead Highway (SR-8), across the state via Anniston - Talladega - Birmingham - Jasper
  • Dixie Overland Highway (SR-26), across the state from Columbus via Montgomery - Selma to Meridian
  • Jackson Highway (SR-5), Tennessee via Florence - Russellville - Vernon to Mississippi
  • Bee Line Highway (SR-7), Tennessee via Athens - Decatur - Birmingham - Montgomery - Troy - Dothan
  • Florida Short Route (SR-1), Tennessee via Huntsville - Guntersville - Gadsden - Anniston - Talladega - Dadeville - Opelika to Columbus
  • SR-1 (Florida Short Route), Phenix City to TN
    • Became SR-1, SR-11, SR-21, SR-1. In 1931, SR-1 was shifted back onto this route, the old one was renumbered as SR-37. In 1957, part of SR-1 became new SR-21, SR-38
  • SR-2, Livingston to GA
  • SR-3 (Lee Highway), MS to TN
    • Became SR-2 (the western portion became part of SR-20 later and was changed back to SR-2 later)
  • SR-4, Montgomery to Heflin
  • SR-5 (Jackson Highway), Mississippi to Tennessee
    • Became SR-34, SR-5, SR-13, SR-19, SR-18 (SR-34 and this portion of SR-5 now part of SR-13, this portion of SR-13 and SR-19 now part of SR-17)
  • SR-6 (Craft Highway, AKA part of the Jefferson Davis Highway), Selma to Mobile
  • SR-7 (Bee Line Highway), FL to TN
  • SR-8 (Bankhead Highway), Guin to Georgia
    • Became SR-4, SR-48, SR-11, SR-4 (This portion of SR-48 is now SR-34 and this portion of SR-11 is now SR-21)
  • SR-9, Loxley to Montgomery
    • Became SR-3, SR-12, SR-9 (one portion of SR-12 and one portion of SR-9 became part of SR-15 and one portion of SR-3 became part of SR-59
  • SR-10 (Old Spanish Trail), Mississippi to Georgia
    • Became SR-12, SR-16 (or originally all SR-16? part of SR-12 not built until 1928 this portion of SR-12 became SR-16 later)
  • SR-11, Banks to Georgia
  • SR-12, Linden to Luverne
  • SR-13, Camden to Bay Minette
  • SR-14, Seale to Dothan
  • SR-15, Montgomery to Georgia
  • SR-16, Union Springs to Georgia

It doesn't look like the Brandon Highway - Montgomery, Greenville, Camden, Livingston, Meridian, MS - had a single number.
