On this WikiProject Stub sorting subpage, you can propose new stub types (please read the procedures beforehand!), as well as the reorganization and subdivision of existing stub types. You can also discuss anything else related to stubs on the talk page.
Proposing new stub types – procedure
Important: If you wish to propose the creation of a stub ARTICLE you've come to the wrong place. If you don't have a username yourself, please go to WP:AFC for proposing a new article. If you already have a username, you can create the article yourself. If you don't know how, add {{Helpme}} to your user talk page to request help from other editors. This page only deals with stub TEMPLATES and CATEGORIES; we cannot help you with creating articles.
Proposing new stub types | ||
If you wish to propose a new stub category and template, please follow these procedures:
DO NOT place a proposal here for any stub type which has already been created and is being discussed at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion. The proposal page is only for stub types that have not yet been created, and it is better to keep any discussion of such stub types in one place rather than splitting it between different pages. Wikipedia:Categories for discussion is the correct page for proposals to delete a stub type. ^ Good number means about 60 articles or more, or 30 or more if it is the primary stub type of a WikiProject, though this figure may vary from case to case. |
"Speedy creation"
A stub type may be proposed for "speedy creation" if it meets one of the following criteria:
- S1 - the creation of a category for which an approved upmerged template already exists and is now in use on more than 60 articles.
- S2 - the creation of an upmerged national-level template for a subject in which other such national-level templates currently exist (e.g., X-bio-stub, X-hist-stub, or X-geo-stub, where X is the name of an internationally widely recognised country) or other instances where a clearly established pattern of similar subtypes exists. The proposed topic may not be controversial in scope. Many templates qualifying for S2 are listed at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/To do/To create.
List speedy creation proposals in the same proposal listings as normal stub proposals below.

Please check how many articles qualify for a stub type before proposing it.
NEW PROPOSALS
Ukraine military stubs
I was sorting Ukraine stubs lately and noticed several military-related templates that seem redundant, all uperged to Category:Ukraine stubs. I can't find any reference to these being proposed, but I'm certainly willing to give them a chance.
- Ukraine-mil-stub (22 articles)
- Ukrainian-navy-stub (0 articles)
- Ukraine-minesweeper-stub (1 article)
- UGF-stub (23 articles) - Ukrainian Ground Forces
- USG-stub (0 articles) - Ukrainian Sea Guard
- UAF-stub (2 articles) - Ukrainian Air Force
I propose Category:Ukrainian military stubs to contain {{Ukraine-mil-stub}}, as well as an upmerged {{Ukraine-mil-unit-stub}} (which would be assigned to all the articles currently wearing Ukrainian-navy-stub, Ukraine-minesweeper-stub, UGF-stub, USG-stub, and UAF-stub, after which I would propose those unused templates for deletion). - Support. If you look at this Petcan result, there are some 200 articles that could be tagged as stub. --Fadesga (talk) 01:40, 22 September 2023 (UTC)
Several stub templates + categories to pull from Category:Japanese dam stubs
I've done some preliminary analysis leading up to this request, which appears in two sections of Category talk:Japanese dam stubs: "Stub sorting - sub-categories - some statistics" and "Stub sorting - sub-categories - using PetScan". I propose creating the following stub templates+categories with the prospective article populations listed below.
- {{Tōhoku region dam stubs}} (241 articles); Tōhoku region is a group of six prefectures on Honshu island. Stub cat would go into Category:Tōhoku region and the source stub category
- {{Kantō region dam stubs}} (136 articles); Kantō region is a group of seven prefectures, including Tokyo, on Honshu island. Stub cat would go into Category:Kantō region and the source stub category
- {{Chūbu region dam stubs}} (344 articles); Chūbu region is a group of nine prefectures on Honshu island. Stub cat would go into Category:Chūbu region and the source stub category
- {{Kansai region dam stubs}} (170 articles); Kansai region is a group of six to ten (?) prefectures on Honshu island. Stub cat would go into Category:Kansai region and the source stub category
- {{Chūgoku region dam stubs}} (200 articles); Chūgoku region is a group of five prefectures on Honshu island. Stub cat would go into Category:Chūgoku region and the source stub category
- {{Shikoku dam stubs}} (149 articles); Shikoku is the smallest of the four main islands of Japan and has four prefectures. Stub cat would go into Category:Shikoku region and the source stub category
- {{Hokkaido dam stubs}} (168 articles); Hokkaido is the second largest island of Japan and has a single prefecture. Stub cat would go into Category:Dams in Hokkaido and the source stub category
- {{Kyushu dam stubs}} (~220 articles); Kyushu is the third largest of Japans five islands and has seven prefectures. Stub cat would go into Category:Kyushu region and the source stub category
The numbers are not 100% aligned between the PetScan results and the original stub cat article count, but they are within a dozen or so articles of each other. Creation and re-stubbing along these lines would effectively de-populate Category:Japanese dam stubs with its ~1,600 stubs into sub-cats of between about 140 and 350 articles each. Thanks for your review and approval. --User:Ceyockey (talk to me) 20:15, 16 September 2023 (UTC)
- Strong support. The Category:Japanese dam stubs is a very large category indeed. --Fadesga (talk) 22:25, 16 September 2023 (UTC)
- Support Seems reasonable.★Trekker (talk) 00:29, 19 September 2023 (UTC)
Alismatales stubs
Hi there. The Category:Alismatales is very large, with over 100 existing stubs (not yet assigned to a subcategory), in turn part of over 200 stub-category articles. So I propose the creation of Category:Alismatales stubs. Best, --Fadesga (talk) 19:26, 16 September 2023 (UTC)
