Request for an article from the journal "Psychopathology" at Karger about the ancient Ptolemaic ruler Cleopatra VII of Egypt

  • Orland, Ralph M.; Orland, Frank J.; Orland, Phyllis T.M. (1990). "Psychiatric Assessment of Cleopatra – A Challenging Evaluation". Psychopathology. 23 (3): 169–175. doi:10.1159/000284655.

Hello! For anyone who might be able to help me in accessing the article cited above, I'm lodging this request per a suggestion made by one of the FAC reviewers of Death of Cleopatra. You can find the FAC page here. I don't have access to Karger.com, so it is currently hindering the FA candidacy of my article. "Death of Cleopatra" already cites a decent variety of reliable sources, but the reviewer has expressed concerns that there simply aren't enough and that further input from other sources would help to verify other claims and provide greater balance to the article. Any help with this would be enormously appreciated.

Not sure what makes you think this is available on HathiTrust. They have digitized it, yes, but HathiTrust does not usually provide fulltext access to in-copyright works (unless the rightsholder explicitely agreed); Worldcat does not distinguish between fulltext/limited access. — Pajz (talk) 19:58, 27 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
AFAIK, students of a certain set of universities can access the full books, even when it is unavailable for the broader populace.WBGconverse 04:43, 28 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
They can't access full books of all material (been there), hence my question. They can access some of the material if it is considered out-of-print and meets some additional criteria. I infer from your response that you don't know if this book qualifies. Well, I suppose you can wait for someone from a partner institution to check the status of this particular book. It remains doubtful if someone can legally provide you with the entire book, though. There's no real reason why the restriction "We cannot perform full book scans requests due to copyright" wouldn't apply here; the rightsholder didn't make the material available, so the (U.S.) user would have to abide by the requirements of the fair use defense. — Pajz (talk) 06:21, 28 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Asked for help at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Michigan. There's a copy in the UMich library.LeadSongDog come howl! 14:40, 2 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
LeadSongDog, thanks, though I suppose the problem is not so much finding someone with access to a copy of the book as it is scanning the entire volume of 102 pages (Winged Blades of Godric seems to request the entire volume). That would obviously be at odds with the general rule here that "[w]e cannot perform full book scans requests due to copyright". — Pajz (talk) 06:00, 4 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
For most article development, simply scanning the contents and index is half the battle. Editors such as WBG can assess those and request a second scan of a few useful pages for material of particular interest. LeadSongDog come howl! 14:35, 4 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
LeadSongDog, well, if he wants that, he can request it (I wouldn't mind supplying it). I just meant to point out a practical issue with the request as it stands. — Pajz (talk) 19:44, 4 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

{{resolved}}

For Chinese alligator; I primarily would like to know what it says about the alligator's association with the Chinese dragon. Of course, viewing the whole text would be ideal but it's really the Chinese dragon association that I need to know more about to add to the article, as the current section is quite short and only cites one source.

@MrLinkinPark333: When I search for "dragon" on Google Books (I've already used some other pages in the book unrelated to "dragon" which are available for preview as sources in the article), it also brings up 10 pages, but every single one of them says "No preview available for this page". Vmavanti, as to #3, the volume has no annual index, and the individual issues, too, do not include a detailed table of contents (e.g., they don't mention reviews). Unfortunately, I do not have the time to search the entire volume. Regarding #2, there is a sentence in an untitled, as far as I can see, editorial section in the June issue, page 24, that says: "Teddy Norman's crooning on the icky “One Love" is pure dross, but thrush Chris Adams’ saucy innocence on “I’m a Big Girl Now’ (2 parts) is winning; she and McKinley address a tragic postwar shortage in “Have You Got Any Gum Chum?”". As best as I can tell, no other page 24 of any 1988 issue contains any mention of the song title. I'm not sure what the point of this reference is anyway; the fact that "Have Ya Got Any Gum, Chum?" comes from the phrase "Got Any Gum, Chum?" appears entirely trivial and the less obvious remainder of the sentence is already sourced. — Pajz (talk) 15:04, 28 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Proceedings of the International Association of Engineering Geology re the 1556 Shaanxi earthquake.

Does anyone have access to the Proceedings of the 5th International Congress of the International Association of Engineering Geology? It has been cited in various places (including our own 1556 Shaanxi earthquake) for the 1556 Shaanxi (Huaxian) earthquake having 830,000 fatalities, but I began to doubt, and am unable to verify. Item has an ISBN of 90-6191-664-X. It might be available at the IAEG home page, but only to members.

Alternately, is there anyone interested in researching some articles in Chinese? ♦ J. Johnson (JJ) (talk) 00:40, 29 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

For anyone else working on this request, I think it might be in the 6th conference proceedings, not the 5th. The reference in 1556 Shaanxi earthquake cites the proceedings from 1990, which would be the 6th conference. The 5th was in 1986. I checked the table of contents for all three volumes of the 5th just in case, and I couldn't find anything about Shaanxi. Unfortunately, these are the only proceedings I have access to. I have a source that states the 5th congress, volume 4, with 1990 when the Proceedings were published of the Congress held October 1986 in Buenos Aires. Also, ISBN 90-6191-664-X may be invalid; see also ISBN 978-906191664-2. ♦ J. Johnson (JJ) (talk) 22:16, 5 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Citations without titles for Wikiproject Jazz

Vmavanti, regarding #3, I checked the tables of contents of all 1985 issues (bound in two volumes, ~ 15cm thick) and could not find anything. There were non-descriptive titles, which I did not have time to investigate further, the whole endeavour already took 10-15 minutes. On a more general note, I do not intend to act on similar requests going forward; the cost-benefit ratio just doesn't seem right. Not to criticise you--I understand you can only work from what is provided in the articles--just a bit of general feedback on this type of requests. Best, — Pajz (talk) 19:14, 9 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
OK, then I apologize. I guess I'm not clear enough on how this process works. Thank you to everyone who has helped. If there's a thorny problem with an article, trying to find something like a citation without a title, one that is especially obscure or in a foreign language, to whom can I request help?

Vmavanti, well, there's nothing to apologise for, really, and I also believe this is the proper page for such requests. I'm just pointing out some practical difficulties with them. You can't really know that before you hold the volume in your hands. Sometimes there is an annual table of contents (the likelier the more journal-esque the periodical), which helps locate articles where you only know the author. Sometimes there are few issues and the issues have tables of contents that are very clear, which may also enable one to retrieve the article rather quickly. I'm just saying that there are also instances where that is not the case, and I think it makes sense in these cases to indicate that it's too difficult instead of either leaving the request here untouched (so someone else will have the same experience) or spending an extraordinary amount of time on it. Just my two cents. — Pajz (talk) 22:22, 18 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Vmavanti, according to this Down Beat index, the first one may be "Concert Review: Intercollegiate Jazz Review: Fairfield University, Fairfield, CT". I don't know if Current Research in Jazz is a reliable source. BlackcurrantTea (talk) 12:50, 20 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The title of the Down Beat article is "Strictly Ad Lib". Joe Brazil and Chuck Metcalf have been updated accordingly. --Worldbruce (talk) 02:34, 22 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
As an aside, in case you have to deal with this again, it's likely that many music articles simply bear the titles of the album or person they are discussing. So if a person asks, "What's the title of that review of Kind of Blue? it will sometimes simply be "Kind of Blue". Or "Miles Davis: Kind of Blue".

Pages for James Wharton

{{resolved}}

Hello. I'm looking for Chapter VII: James Wharton "The Moroccan Prince" from the following book:

  • Fleischer, Nat (1938). Black dynamite: the story of the Negro in the prize ring from 1782 to 1938 Volume 1. C. J. O'Brien, Inc. pp. 54–63. {{cite book}}: Cite has empty unknown parameter: |1= (help)

However, I am also looking for pages 107 and 112 from:

  • Smith, Kevin (2003). Black Genesis: The History of the Black Prizefighter 1760-1870. iUniverse. pp. 107, 112. ISBN 0595288847.

This is for User:MrLinkinPark333/James Wharton (boxer). Google Books only has a snippet view for Black Dynamite and not the entire chapter. The two pages for Black Genesis are more of a priority than Black Dynamite. Thank you. MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 23:14, 10 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@MrLinkinPark333: sent Dynamite. --Worldbruce (talk) 02:13, 22 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Zigzig20s: The interface is unusual. There's a grabber at the bottom of the text window that allows one to resize it to show a full page, and a navigator on the right that lets one choose which page is shown. There's also a light blue download button above the text window. It allows one to download the whole 164-page issue as a searchable pdf. --Worldbruce (talk) 01:46, 14 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Chinese alligator book

For Chinese alligator. Could someone kindly see if the book supports the claims Once mating groups have gathered male Chinese alligators impregnate one female per season and it has also been theorized that these choruses do not serve any purpose? If it does support the claims, what page number(s) is the information located on so that it can be added to the article for verifiability? It is on Google Books but unfortunately it doesn't allow for a preview and after doing some searching, the full text of the book doesn't appear to be online, or at least not behind a paywall. The Voice/Florida Catholic (newsletter of the Catholic diocese of Miami): Primum Regnum Dei recipient lists

{{done}} Hi, I'm trying to determine whether Jim Towey, a Florida politician, was a recipient of the Catholic archdiocese of Miami's Primum Regnum Dei award, granted in honour of the late Archbishop Coleman Carroll. (According to various non-reliable sources, he received the 'Archbishop John Carroll' award or the 'Regnum Dei' award from the archdiocese, neither of which appears to have ever been given to anyone else.) I'd also like to track down when and where he received the papal cross.

The diocesan newsletter (called The Voice prior to 1990, the Florida Catholic afterwards) seems to have published yearly lists of the recipients of both the PRD and the Papal Cross. I'm looking for any archived copies of the newsletter from between 1991 and 2003; so far, I've only been able to find ones published before 1991 or after 2009. I'd particularly like to see the April and September 2000 issues, as these are when two different sources say he was given the Papal Cross. Cheers, Genericusername57 (talk) 21:08, 20 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Edit: The worldcat oclc number is OCLC 318811493. Apparently, the

  • Marquette University libraries hold 1939-1994 on microfilm [88].Genericusername57 (talk) 22:47, 20 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Notre Dame has microfilm for all the issues I'm interested in: [89]. Genericusername57 (talk) 22:52, 20 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • The University of West Florida University Archives and West Florida History Center might have physical copies of some issues from the nineties [90]. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Genericusername57 (talkcontribs) 22:58, 20 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • The UF Smathers library of the University of Florida has non-circulating copies from 2004—unclear what the format is and whether they have other years [91] Genericusername57 (talk) 01:08, 21 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • The Jacksonville public library has copies from 2000 and 2003 [92]
  • The Barry University library has microfilm up to 1996, physical copies from 1998 on [93].

It seems also that the Florida Catholic had different editions for the different regions of Florida; I think that the Miami edition is most likely to bear fruit. Genericusername57 (talk) 01:37, 21 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I've found three different obituaries that mention people being awarded the medal on December 8, 1992; but it seems that more recently it's been given out in late September/early October. Someone else received one on October 4, 1998. Genericusername57 (talk) 02:41, 21 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Genericusername57: Our volunteers may surprise me, but I'm not aware of any of the regulars being in Florida or near the other libraries with holdings. Consider trying the The Florida Catholic's article search service. It's free if the search is easy (which it probably would be if he received the award). They'll quote you a price if it looks like it will take substantial research (which it probably would to prove a negative). --Worldbruce (talk) 17:52, 21 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, I put a request in there last week, and haven't heard anything back yet--so I thought I might as well ask here as well, even though it's a fairly long shot. If that request pans out, I'll take this one down. Cheers, Genericusername57 (talk) 12:18, 22 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The Florida Catholic archival staff sent me lists of Oct. 1998 PRD recipients and Nov. 2000 Pro Pontifice papal cross recipients. Towey wasn't on either, so I've asked them to take another look. Cheers, Genericusername57 (talk) 23:53, 23 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Another update: The Florida Catholic staff sent me a few dozen articles related to Towey. He received the St. Vincent de Paul award in 1999 and the papal cross in September 2000. I still haven't found anything about his receiving the Carroll/Regnum Dei/PRD, though. Cheers, Genericusername57 (talk) 00:39, 31 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Genericusername57: Are you still expecting some research from volunteers here at the Resource Exchange, or can you mark this {{resolved}}? --Worldbruce (talk) 19:29, 4 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

"I Have Forgiven Jesus"

{{Resolved}} I've recently improved "I Have Forgiven Jesus", a song by Morrissey. While I could access most sources through Sci-Hub and Google Books, I couldn't do it in some cases. So, for these cases, I'm asking for your help. The sources are three ProQuest-available articles; one The Times news; and some pages of Morrissey: The Pageant of His Bleeding Heart.

Thanks, Gabriel Yuji (talk) 22:52, 28 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Gabriel Yuji: #1 and #2 i can't help with due to my local library Proquest access. A note about #1 is that it's a disseration so I don't think you would need all of it. As for #3 (uncut album review), the only mention of I Have Forgiven Jesus is a three star rating at the bottom of the 2nd page with the track breakdown. No review of the track by itself. Morrissey's book on the other hand I can do. I'll see if I can get the Times article as well. --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 04:24, 29 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Gabriel Yuji: Okay, I checked the Times article. Very brief mention of I Have Forgiven Jesus as it was one of the competitors to reach #1 in the UK for Christmas 2004. Outside of the Times: as you can see in the Offical Charts Company, it debuted at #10 that week. Not sure if the brief mention is helpful for you. --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 04:39, 29 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Yes Sent. #last one. -Gazal world (talk) 15:38, 29 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Gabriel Yuji: Okay. I thought I'd give you a heads up as I presume that only a select amount of pages would talk about the song, and it'd be not useful to send the entire thing (just only the pages that mention the song). My opinion. --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 17:08, 29 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Gazal world: I received it. Thanks. @Gazal world: I see your point now. I'm fine with only the pages that mention the song. Gabriel Yuji (talk) 23:21, 30 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Gabriel Yuji: Doing dissertation extract(s) from #1. It would be helpful if you would strike the items you have received or no longer need, so that volunteers don't have to parse the entire discussion to-date to understand what you still need. --Worldbruce (talk) 23:55, 5 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Excerpt from Elementary Seismology of Richter's "Modified Mercalli scale of 1956"

{{resolved}} Also for Modified Mercalli intensity scale: I would like to get a copy of Conrad Richter's "Modified Mercalli scale of 1956", published in his 1958 text book Elementary Seismology. I know of a copy I could copy, but not for several weeks, so factor that in for how much trouble/time to spend on this. A link to a pdf of the text would be nice, and I thought I had one once, but can't find it now. Or even (but less likely) a pdf of just the scale itself. Note: this is not any "Modified Mercalli" scales such as done by Wood & Newmann (1931), Stover & Coffman (1993), or others; just Richter's 1956 scale, which I believe has not been published outside of the text.

Even if nothing can be found I would be interested in seeing what places have been searched. Thanks. ♦ J. Johnson (JJ) (talk) 23:58, 29 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
