This is a community dedicated to improving Wikipedia's coverage of psychology, including theories, research, disorders and psychotherapy. Its broad goals are:

  1. To assess psychology-related articles and tag them appropriately when there are problems.
  2. To remove vandalism, original research and spam.
  3. To ensure that articles are based on independent reliable secondary sources.
  4. To represent scientific controversies and scientific consensus fairly, writing articles in a neutral style.
  5. To improve and review articles to Good Article and Featured Article quality.
  6. To create a friendly and supportive atmosphere for editors who want to contribute.
  7. To inform the community about issues that need discussion.

Participants are encouraged to be bold, particularly in enforcing Wikipedia's policies across the relevant articles.

Topic

Psychology is an academic and applied discipline that involves the scientific study of human and nonhuman animal mental functions and behaviors. In this field, a professional practitioner or researcher is called a psychologist. Psychologists are classified as social or behavioral scientists. Psychologists attempt to understand the role of mental functions in individual and social behavior, while also exploring underlying physiological and neurological processes.

Basic research in psychology includes perception, cognition, attention, emotion, motivation, brain functioning, personality, behavior, and interpersonal relationships. Some, especially depth psychologists, also consider the unconscious mind. Psychologists employ empirical methods to determine causal and correlational relationships between psychosocial variables. In addition, or in opposition, to employing empirical and deductive methods, clinical psychologists sometimes rely upon symbolic interpretation and other inductive techniques.

These are the articles that have been edited the most within the last five days. Last updated 28 March 2024 by HotArticlesBot.
We have two main ways of tracking high-activity pages. We track the pages with the most views over the previous month - the popular pages. This listing has 1000 entries, so it isn't included here, but you can follow the link (which is also in the tabs, at the top of most of the WikiProject pages). If anyone knows how to do a partial transclusion of a table, please do so, noting that the bot over-writes the page so it can't be edited with "include only" etc.
The other measure is articles which have had the most edits over the last few days - the hot articles. There are fewer of these entries, so they have been listed here.

Tasks

All tasks can be done by any user, whether or not they're a participant of the WikiProject, and regardless of their level of expertise in psychology (although we do ask that users get help if you want to make changes to a template but you're not sure how to). Priority tasks are:

  1. Welcome new users that are interested in psychology by putting {{subst:Psychology welcome}} ~~~~ on their talk page.
  2. Confirm that our Resources are up to date.
  3. Make the Psychology Barnstar less... early 2010s. Does the default one really need moving parts?
  4. Review the article guide to make sure none of it conflicts with the current MOS. It wasn't edited for a good while and may be out of date.

Priority tasks should generally be SMART, and if there are more than 3 to 5 tasks, they stop being priority tasks.

Extended task list

For a bot-generated list of discussion alerts, see the article alerts for WikiProject Psychology. Relatedly, see the deletion discussions about pages related to psychology and for pages related to behavioural science as they sometimes include articles that don't yet have our banner on it (and that therefore won't be in our article alerts).

Our stubs can be found in Category:Psychology stubs

Article requests are available for topics and psychologists (or anyone working in psychological fields). If you find an entry that isn't appropriate for an article, strike it off on that page, giving reasoning.

A list of articles needing cleanup associated with this project is available. See also the tool's wiki page and the index of WikiProjects.

For basically any other issue, see the clean up listing.

Assessment

Index · Statistics · Log

Like many other WikiProjects, we have an assessment project. Any Talk page with the {{WikiProject Psychology}} template on it gets assessed for quality and for its importance to our project. This section summarises statistics about psychology articles, based on the assessments.

The {{WikiProject Psychology}} template is also used to populate these:

To put it in general terms: I am interested in the etiological and maintaining factors in clinical disorders, especially anxiety-streamed ones, and to further that - the malleability of self-reported attitudes/personality traits and their role in therapy, self-help, dysfunction/optimal functioning.
