Do IPA symbols help you with word pronunciation? E.g.:dyʃɛn] / /duʊˈʃɛn/

Discussion

I'd combine this with a geolocation question and perhaps an educational attainment question. Learning IPA is common in some countries. WhatamIdoing (talk) 01:20, 6 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

We'll be able to do this in post-survey analysis. (Is it common in America? It's not common in Australia or, I think, in the UK.) --Anthonyhcole (talk · contribs · email) 01:35, 6 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
It's certainly not common in the US; a while ago, I asked around 250 people in my community, and not one of them could parse [ɪɾ̃ɚˈnæʃɨnəɫ] (local pronunciation of "international"), which is a shame, because the IPA is an excellent system.  — TORTOISEWRATH 04:25, 10 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
