The result of the discussion was retarget to Somerset (disambiguation). plicit 23:45, 14 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Retarget to Somerset (disambiguation) - There are several entries on the dab page for municipalities called Somerset, many of which are probably considered towns. estar8806 (talk) 23:33, 7 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Retarget per nom. The current target is a county, not a town, so the redirect is inaccurate as it stands. - Presidentman talk · contribs (Talkback) 23:36, 7 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget per nom and Presidentman. Optionally, we could anchor the redirect to § Places, but not a big deal. Askarion 03:39, 8 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget to Somerset (disambiguation) per above. InterstellarGamer12321 (talk | contribs) 10:31, 9 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment - given this exact phrase it seems plausible that someone searching this is actually looking for Somerton, Somerset or Taunton ("(County) Town of Somerset"). I think it would be better to disambiguate separately from the existing page for this reason. A7V2 (talk) 01:29, 10 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Reatarget to Somerset (disambiguation) given the likes of the Town of Somerset division in Wisconsin. Crouch, Swale (talk) 16:31, 10 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget to the disambig. Somerset, Maryland, Somerset, Massachusetts, Somerset, New York (where the exact phrase is bolded at the start of the second paragraph), Somerset, Vermont and Somerset (town), Wisconsin are all legally towns, and it seems plausible that at least some of the other places are informally known as towns too. The first page of Google results features the Somersets in Massachusetts, Maryland and Wisconsin and Taunton (as county town of Somerset, England) while the second page adds the settlement in New York and a page about market towns in the South Somerset district. There is clearly no primary topic. Thryduulf (talk) 19:42, 14 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete per nom, not only is there is no particular affinity between Kent and Greek, this doesn't appear to be the Greek for "Kent" (c.f. el:Κεντ), rather it seems that it's a Hellenisation of the Roman name for Kent (based on the history section of the Greek Wikipedia article about Cornwall). Redirect to Omarosa Manigault Newman or (realistically) Delete - The quote may have been regarding Pence, but it was from Omarosa. However, I'm not convinced that it's a sufficiently notable quote to warrant a redirect, so deletion may be the better option. estar8806 (talk) 23:24, 7 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

As an Aussie, it’d be pretty funny if Scummo and Liar from the Shire redirected to Scott Morrison (but Scomo does though), our former PM, but this is Wikipedia, not a joke book and totally fails WP:NPOV. Fork99 (talk) 13:55, 8 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete - Per nom, I am not particularly swayed by a cameo quote from Michael Cohen, Urban Dictionary, an opinion article from the Miami Times, and the Times uses it only in the WP:HEADLINE. PackMecEng (talk) 13:38, 8 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete - Per nom, while yes I saw a lot of Google search results for Trump when searching this term, it also came up with Joe Biden, Obama, etc. If Wikipedia was a joke book, you would make this a dab page and list every single US president. Fork99 (talk) 13:51, 8 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Plus, if you knew the nickname, and you were gonna type it into Wikipedia, 100% you should know their actual name and use that instead. Fork99 (talk) 14:05, 8 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per nom, PackMecEng, and Fork99. I was able to find two sources calling Bush Jr. that term as well (1 2). In short, it's too vague to apply to just one president and not neutral enough to fight for. Askarion 14:03, 8 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Initially I was thinking of just ignoring it, but now I'm increasingly doubting its potential usefulness. This recently created redirect has zero incoming links (unlike titles like WikiProject Football, WikiProject Military history or WikiProject Biography, which have each tens of incoming links but are still red links), and its pageviews are quite low (other than the initial spike, most of the other hits were probably mine).

Eventually a line needs to be drawn between those cross-namespace redirects that are worth retaining (e.g. the "MOS:" shortcuts), and those that aren't (for example, a mainspace redirect to an archived talk page like Wikipedia/Archive 25). This redirect fits squarely into the latter camp. Dsuke1998AEOS (talk) 18:21, 7 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

why do we have a portal link that redirects to userspace? lettherebedarklight晚安 17:38, 7 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was delete. No history of content-merged found in the redirect's history signed, Rosguill talk 16:41, 14 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Though Ryan's World did have a Combo Panda section when the redirect was created, that article no longer mentions Combo Panda at all. Redirects that lead to articles containing nothing at all about the redirect's particular subject are unhelpful for readers. If mentions of Combo Panda were removed for a good reason, then the redirect should be deleted. – MrPersonHumanGuy (talk) 13:05, 7 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The creation of this {{R from misspelling}} disrupted existing intentional redlinks to Sean O'Hara (the Australian gymnast). jlwoodwa (talk) 12:40, 7 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment Meets WP:RFD#KEEP #2: ...redirecting a frequent misspelling to a correct spelling... What would you suggest happen? Is there evidence that the gymnast is notable enough to have a standalone article created? They're linked from events in 2014, which they didnt seem to medal, nor was it the Olympics.—Bagumba (talk) 15:45, 7 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The redirect could be deleted, or a stub could be written if there's enough information, or it could be replaced with a disambiguation page, or there could be a hatnote on the target. Depending on which option is taken, existing links could be deleted, or a disambiguation added to keep them red (despite the fact that there's no other Sean O'Hara to be ambiguous with), or left unchanged. I don't see an obvious choice here – that's why I brought it to RfD. Also, this misspelling might not be frequent. jlwoodwa (talk) 17:46, 7 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'd recommend to follow the red link guideline. WP:REDLINK:

Add red links to articles to indicate that a page will be created soon or that an article should be created for the topic because the subject is notable and verifiable.

If the gymnast isn't notable, the point seems moot about deleting the redirect, and the gymnast links can be deleted. —Bagumba (talk) 07:34, 8 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep for now: If and when the other person’s article is created, then we could decide whether hatnoting or removing the redirect is necessary. Agree with removing the redlinks. Fork99 (talk) 14:12, 8 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep for now per WP:RFD#K2 and remove the redlinks. InterstellarGamer12321 (talk | contribs) 10:22, 9 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep for now we can always change things once there is evidence that the gymnast is notable.--65.93.194.183 (talk) 23:28, 10 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep reasonable typo. Fix the "intentional redlinks" to add a parenthetical disambiguator. Any "intentional redlinks" are always at risk of pointing to the wrong topic if they do not use a parenthetical disambiguator, since there will likely be other topics that can be created at the undisambiguated title -- 67.70.25.80 (talk) 00:51, 11 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
