The result of the discussion was retarget to American Series. (non-admin closure) CycloneYoris talk! 23:55, 12 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Potentially confusing redirect. In addition to Cash's American Recordings (album), it could also target American Series, The American series of The Three Investigators (which probably needs to be deleted by the way), Americana series, America 500 Years, etc. Thoughts? TNstingray (talk) 23:24, 5 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Retarget to American Series, certainly the current target is unacceptable. I'm surprised that that article doesn't even have a hatnote, let alone a corresponding disambiguation page since it seems like a very generic term; so I'm not opposed to making some kind of disambiguation page (but perhaps just a hatnote or two at American Series would suffice). Android 14

The result of the discussion was retarget to Android version history#Android 14. I am BOLDly closing this as an involved editor. Android 14 has officially been announced, so much of the discussion is now moot. (non-admin closure) (non-admin closure) InfiniteNexus (talk) 23:19, 8 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I'm nominating this redirect for deletion. I don't see any logical cause that the page should be redirected to Super Android 13 - it makes sense if it were 2021 and it were a redirect for Android 13, but I don't see how someone would look up Android 14, wishing to see this article. I think we should delete this redirect for now, or at least retarget to Android 13 (as in, the OS). Herbfur (He/Him) (talk) 02:55, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I'd like to modify my initial position to Retarget to Android version history, rather than delete. I think this should be the new status quo. The new Android operating system is much more well-known than Dragon Ball (considering it's the most used operating system on earth), so readers will more likely try to look up future versions of Android while looking for information on the operating system. The fact that the current versions of Android all are listed under their own names and not under disambiguation pages or redirects backs up this logic. Herbfur (He/Him) (talk) 03:14, 30 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Retarget to Android (operating system) Android 14 is upcoming Android mobile operating system version. So, I think it needs to retarget. Hajoon0102 💬 10:04, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
WP:CRYSTAL. While Hajoon did not create this redirect, I should note that several of their redirects have been nominated in the past for violating CRYSTAL. InfiniteNexus (talk) 19:01, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Move to Android 14 (Dragon Ball) then retarget to Android (operating system) Android version history. I suggest the same for Android 15, 16, 17 and 19 and 20, and the Android 18 and 21 articles (and similar for Android 25, but with a different disambiguator) if/when these are announced as operating system versions. Some of the recent edits could be moved if an article is to be created for the operating system. Peter James (talk) 13:03, 29 January 2023 (UTC) (edited comment to suggest different redirect target. Peter James (talk) 19:56, 29 January 2023 (UTC))[reply]
@Peter James: This isn't necessary nor advisable per WP:ONEOTHER. A hatnote linking to the Dragon Ball Z character will suffice. I previously brought this up at Talk:Android 13#Future disambiguation, though no one responded. InfiniteNexus (talk) 19:01, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That's about whether a disambiguation page should be created, and I agree it would be unnecessary. There can be a primary topic and another topic with a disambiguated title, it's just that in this case the other topic is currently a redirect to another topic. Any incoming links would be better targeting the redirect, not bypassing it, so if the content is ever restructured or the article is restored it still links to the correct place. It also avoids having a page with unrelated content in its history such as Android 13 has. Peter James (talk) 19:16, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It may only mention DAB pages, but the same concept applies to redirects. If there are only two topics to which a given title might refer, and one is the primary topic, then a disambiguation page is not needed—it is sufficient to use a hatnote on the primary topic article, pointing to the other article. (bolding my own). Now let me check how many incoming links there are to "Android 14" ... oh, zero. It is unlikely that anyone will be looking for the Dragon Ball Z character in the foreseeable future, the only reason why it hasn't been nominated for deletion until now is because of the non-trivial history. InfiniteNexus (talk) 19:30, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That assumes the other topic has a standalone article. Also the Dragon Ball character is mentioned in three other articles, including one containing a link that pointed to the redirect until recently. Peter James (talk) 19:56, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget to Android version history Deleting the redirect is pointless because when Android 14 alpha becomes available in a few months, that's most likely when a separate article for the OS will be made. The reason why it currently points to the film is that it focuses on the DBZ characters Android 13 and 14. I believe the de facto method has been to keep the redirects as is until the OS alpha is released. I'm pinging InfiniteNexus as they have seen these issues in the past. – The Grid (talk) 17:34, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep and do not retarget – As we have done in the past, this redirect should point to its original subject (as it has since 2006) until the Android 14 operating system version is formally announced, and then the redirect should be expanded into an article, with a hatnote to Dragon Ball Z: Super Android 13!#Cast per WP:ONEOTHER. Linking to Android (operating system) or Android version history now would be premature and WP:CRYSTAL, as the OS version hasn't even been announced yet, and as neither article mentions "Android 14" this wouldn't be helpful to readers. As for the nom's comment, I don't see any logical cause that the page should be redirected to Super Android 13 [...] I don't see how someone would look up Android 14, wishing to see this article, we can see from the page history that the article was redirectified back in 2006 and has a substantial non-trivial page history, so deletion would be harmful per WP:RFD#HARMFUL and WP:RFD#K1. Secondly, "Android 14" is mentioned at the current target, in the Cast section, making this a plausible search term and an invalid reason for deletion per WP:RFD#D8. InfiniteNexus (talk) 19:01, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The operating system is the primary topic, it's mentioned in the Android version history article, and WP:CRYSTAL is a reason it would be unsuitable for an article now, but a redirect would be useful. Peter James (talk) 19:56, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Umm, you can't possibly determine that when Android 14 hasn't even been released yet. InfiniteNexus (talk) 18:03, 30 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@InfiniteNexus:It has been announced and a preview release is already available. The WordsmithTalk to me 19:18, 8 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • I'm challenging our status quo because I think it's illogical and actually less useful than redirecting to the android version history article. Readers might accidentally look up a version of Android that doesn't exist (this literally happened to me while I was reviewing this redirect), so directing them to more information on the operating system would be most useful. I've modified my initial position to support retargeting, rather than deletion. Herbfur (He/Him) (talk) 03:14, 30 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I think the issue is there's no separate article for the Dragonball item and at the same time the Android version does not justify a separate article yet. Looking ahead:
This is perhaps a very unique situation than the other items. – The Grid (talk) 15:47, 30 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
We shouldn't be usurping 17-year-old redirects for a product that hasn't even been announced yet. As I wrote at Talk:Android 13#Future disambiguation, only the DBZ characters who have their own articles need to be disambiguated. The others that are just redirects can just be usurped after the OS version has been announced. InfiniteNexus (talk) 18:03, 30 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep: It seems clear to me that this discussion is just a few months to soon. We should wait a bit on this for Android 14 to at least be announced. Even then, the redirect should not be deleted as proposed. When the time is right, this can target the operating system. (Additionally, we likely should have a redirect called "Android 14 (Dragon Ball)" to point to the Dragon Ball Z: Super Android 13! article in the future.) --Super Goku V (talk) 02:47, 1 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment Why does this redirect to "Dragon Ball Z: Super Android 13!"? Android 13 seems like the title that would redirect there and not Android 14. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 14:53, 2 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Dragon Ball Z: Super Android 13! is a movie in the Dragon Ball series which contains characters named Android 13, Android 14, and Android 15. Android 14 started off as a brief article regarding the character in the movie, which was then was redirected multiple times to various list and articles connected to the Dragon Ball series. It ended up being a redirect to the movie from January 2011 to April 2022 with an interruption in October 2019. For the rest of the details, the first attempt made to point it to an article connected to the Google Operating System was made in April, but the user self-reverted weeks later. Another occurrence happened in August. Since December there has been over 50 edits to this redirect, with at least one user repeatedly attempting to force this redirect to become an article about the OS. --Super Goku V (talk) 18:57, 2 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Retarget to Android version history as Android 14 is already announced, has a release timeline and is available in a preview version [1]. WP:CRYSTAL doesn't really apply, as it is virtually certain to happen and will become the primary topic people are looking for when searching for Android 14. • Comment: I think there are two options. Option 1 is to disambiguate and put all of these World Cups. Option 2 is to keep it because the majority of people are searching for the FIFA World Cup. InterstellarGamer12321 (talk | contribs) 18:34, 5 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep - not sure how WP:XY applies here as the nom's argument seems to be that this is ambiguous but I think this is so far and away the primary topic to not be an issue. If there are any articles that this is ambiguous with (like Portugal at the Archery World Cup etc) they can be added as hatnotes. If there are a few such articles (I couldn't find any but I didn't try very hard) then a disambiguation page would be acceptable but not my first preference.
