This is a list of redirects that have been proposed for deletion or other action on December 29, 2023.

Vertebral

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was retarget to Vertebra. Jay 💬 23:06, 5 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Seems like an unhelpful partial-title match, given Vertebra and the list of articles and redirects that start with "Vertebral". Delete to allow search results to better help our readers find what they are looking for. Steel1943 (talk) 23:06, 29 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete per nom. Alternatively, retarget to spine and mark as redrect from adjectives per its wiktionary entry --Lenticel (talk) 00:06, 30 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    • @Lenticel: Spine is a disambiguation page, the article about the human spine is at Vertebral column (i.e. the current target) so your retargetting suggestion is effectively keep. Thryduulf (talk) 21:57, 31 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget to Vertebra as R from adjective as another retarget suggestion. 176.33.241.125 (talk) 19:04, 30 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • I'm also fine with this retarget --Lenticel (talk) 00:01, 1 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Sacral and coccygeal vertebraeVertebral column  (talk · links · history · stats)     [ Closure: keep/retarget/delete ]

Between the current target, Vertebra, Sacrum, and Coccyx, there are just too many possible options where this redirect could target. Delete per WP:XY. Steel1943 (talk) 22:55, 29 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Delete per WP:RDAB due to the lack of space between the title and the disambiguator. The title with the correct spacing, Spine (anatomy), is a redirect that targets the same page as the nominated redirect. Steel1943 (talk) 22:45, 29 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Walker Elementary SchoolPrimary school  (talk · links · history · stats)     [ Closure: keep/retarget/delete ]

Since this was WP:BLARred for not having any blue links on the DAB page, it seems that reverting back to its previous state is not an option, but if there are no valid targets with this name then this redirect should be deleted as it is not mentioned at the current target. TartarTorte 22:11, 29 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete the current target doesn't make sense at all, and if it was reverted to a previous version it would qualify for speedy deletion under WP:CSD#G14. Hut 8.5 20:08, 4 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Recreated redirect which was previously discussed for deletion, at Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2023 September 18#WikiProject Celts, same redirect created by same editor. And per Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2016 August 6#All cross-namespace redirects of the following type which was for similar cross-namespace redirects. Cross-namespace redirects to a Wikipedia page are to be deleted. DankJae 17:58, 29 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was retarget to Lagos. (non-admin closure) Toadette (Merry Christmas, and a happy new year) 18:15, 5 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It redirects to Everyday Life (Coldplay album). It should redirect to Lagos instead as a potential typo for Èkó. (CC) Tbhotch 17:28, 29 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Retarget to Lagos as an {{R avoided double redirect}} of Èkó. Both the song (which has a redirect from Èko (song), linked at the Eko dab page and at Lagos) and the city have the same two diacritics and none of the other entries on the dab page have a diacritic only on the E (two entries have a different diacritic only on the o, but that's not relevant to this redirect). I see no reason why the place would be primary for the correct spelling but the song primary for the misspelling. Thryduulf (talk) 21:06, 29 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was delete. Jay 💬 05:30, 8 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • RobearRobert  (talk · links · history · stats)     [ Closure: keep/retarget/delete ]

Robear, or anyone that goes by this name, is mentioned at the target. Could be a case of knowing someone who goes by this nickname and redirecting it there, but there is nothing to indicate that this would be a necessary redirect to have. Utopes (talk / cont) 01:41, 15 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Weak keep: It is a phonetic spelling of the French prononunciation of the name. For example, Robert Desnos's article the IPA notes it would be pronounced in what is essentially this way. I think this is close enough to row-BEAR to allow for plausabilitiy to the French spelling. TartarTorte 14:11, 15 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Weak delete: this would be an very uncommon way in which to think to spell this, and so is unlikely to be of help. Redirects are cheap, but I think this is pushing the idea further than it should be. If we had the concept of unlinkable redirects (i.e. they only appear in searches, but appear as redlinks), I would care less. —Quondum 18:06, 15 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete per User:J947. There's barely anything for a DAB as of now, and I don't like the two mentions as retarget possibilities. I think leaving it to the search engine is best here. Skarmory (talk • contribs) 06:04, 30 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was retarget to Strike (attack). -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (they|xe|she) 00:51, 12 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

First page of results are all the dictionary definition; I doubt the use that's common in Wikipedia parlance is the one that most readers will be searching for. Not really sure what the best target is, though; maybe Strike (attack), or just a soft redirect to wiktionary? Skarmory (talk • contribs) 16:29, 14 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Weak retarget to Strike (attack), which seems to be the most common use of the word, though it isn't mentioned in that article. By soft redirecting to Wiktionary, one would have to assume that most readers searching for "socking" are interested in the word rather than the action, so I oppose that option. Dunno why I hadn't done a careful search before creating the redirect. Dsuke1998AEOS (talk) 18:29, 14 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment if this is not kept, the new target should have a hatnote to the current target as while it may or may not be primary it is definitely something that people will be searching for on Wikipedia. Thryduulf (talk) 22:58, 14 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget to Sock (disambiguation) as {{R from related}} / {{R from verb}} -- the ing form of the verb sock -- 65.92.247.90 (talk) 05:15, 15 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Relisting comment: Several new targets have been proposed...
Please add new comments below this notice. Thanks, CycloneYoris talk! 01:50, 22 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Retarget to Strike (attack). The suffix -ing makes it unambiguous that the title refers to the verb, making most of the entries listed at Sock (disambiguation) (which are nouns) unhelpful to anyone following a link or searching. TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 21:13, 22 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    • However the use of a sock would be the verb sock using the noun sock, so would be on the disambiguation page (where assaulting and internet socks appear) -- 65.92.247.66 (talk) 23:17, 22 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Weak retarget to Strike (attack) as the primary topic, as seen from dictionary listings and Google searches. If need be, we can put a hatnote at the top of the retargeted article to direct readers to the sockpuppet sense.  LunaEatsTuna (💬)— 18:38, 24 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget to the DAB which seems the best compromise especially since on Wikipedia it normally means the account. Crouch, Swale (talk) 19:17, 24 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.
Relisting comment: Retarget to Strike (attack) or Sock (disambiguation)? Notified of this discussion at the talk pages of the two proposed targets.

  • Retarget to Strike as the primary usage per Dsuke and Luna. Oppose retargeting the dab per Techno, as the -ing prefix makes it not applicable to any of the entries of the dab, except for Strike. Socking as a verb for sockpuppet may or may not be a Wikipedia-specific usage, which a hatnote per Thryduulf and Luna, can help in any way. Jay 💬 06:36, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Don't see any reason why this specific date deserves its own redirect. The event has not become notable for its MDY year date and has its own notable name. Esolo5002 (talk) 03:06, 29 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Keep Plausible search term. "January 6" is common shorthand for the event, and as the years go by, some readers may well add the year to their search. Cullen328 (talk) 03:16, 29 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Keep, per Cullen. Feoffer (talk) 05:45, 29 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Keep. Agree with Cullen; if you search "January 6", why not search the more specific "January 6, 2021". Same as July 4, 1776. --Engineerchange (talk) 16:44, 29 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep: I can't see anything else that is nearly as relevant that happened on this date, and the attack is generally referred to the date specified whereas I could not find anything else referred to by that date commonly. TartarTorte 18:18, 29 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

As a search term, this redirect targeting its current target seems to be kind of unclear and vague. However, this redirect is either a {{R with history}} or {{R from merge}}, and was an article during 2004–05 before becoming a redirect. Steel1943 (talk) 20:31, 14 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Move without redirect. The pre-redirect content was an unsourced essay, but as content was merged it needs to be retained for attribution history. The current title is indeed not great, and while Types of strike would accurately represent the original content and be a meaningful redirect to strike (attack) it would be ambiguous with (at least) Industrial action#Types. Types of hand strike I think solves that issue, but it isn't great (e.g. Hand strike is a red link) so I'm more than open to better suggestions. Thryduulf (talk) 00:29, 22 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was restored original target: Zoosadism and retargeted this redirect there. (non-admin closure) CycloneYoris talk! 09:10, 8 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Page no longer contains content about this incident. Briefly mentioned in Cruelty_to_animals, so if it is kept retarget there, but my inclination is to delete. Rusalkii (talk) 02:03, 21 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment this originally targetted Zoosadism, until that article was culled (for being "unfocused") then blanked and redirected by SparklyNights citing a lack of reliable sources (both without discussion I've been able to find). However, while the the pre-cull version was not great, it did consist of material relevant to the subject supported by a long list of sources that appear reliable. I suggest reverting the Zoosadism article and retargetting this redirect back to it (and any others that were similarly pointed there), without prejudice to AfD. For one, this phrase is not mentioned at the target article. These may be the specs of the device, but added onto that it's unclear how the "(vayu)" disambiguator does anything to help clarify the redirect target. It should be noted that "vayu" isn't at the target article either. The string of letters and numbers of "M2102J20SG" feels pretty unique, to the point where I don't think there would need to be anything that comes after it (if kept as a redirect).
