This is a list of redirects that have been proposed for deletion or other action on September 10, 2017.

Peirce Middle School

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was procedural close. I have (as editor action) disambiguated the page in the same manner as Pierce Middle School. The page is now outside the scope of RfD. WJBscribe (talk) 09:14, 25 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

There is more than once pierce middle school (with probably none of them being particularly notable), so having this redirect to one school district doesn't make much sense. menaechmi (talk) 22:04, 10 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep unless the other school has an article. Steel1943 (talk) 00:08, 11 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
    • Tavix's comment is enough for me to withdraw mine. Steel1943 (talk) 02:07, 11 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment: I'll start by noting that the redirect is "Peirce", not "Pierce". The middle school in South Redford School District is "Pierce", so this would have to be a typo redirect to the current target. That being said, Peirce is a real surname, and it's common enough that there are some middle schools named after a "Peirce". For example, there is a Peirce Middle School in Nantucket Public Schools and West Chester Area School District. -- Tavix (talk) 01:29, 11 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
This one was apparently originally an article on the one in West Chester, but was redirected to John D. Pierce Middle School (Michigan) in November [1], and then John D was redirected to the school district and a bot fixed the double redirect. menaechmi (talk) 13:15, 11 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget to West Chester Area School District as per the original target as it is still listed there. The Nantucket one goes by Cyrus Peirce Middle School. Add retargets here and hatnote for Pierce / South Redford and one for Peirce in Nantucket. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 16:58, 11 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget to West Chester Area School District and add hatnotes per Angus. -- Notecardforfree (talk) 21:27, 11 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget' to a disambiguation page. While the Nantucket one may be "Cyrus Peirce Middle School" it will be frequently known as "Peirce Middle School" anyway. The West Chester school has a full name too: "E. N. Peirce Middle school". I also established Pierce Middle School as a redirect for any with the name Pierce. WhisperToMe (talk) 03:18, 12 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Would it retarget Pierce Middle School then? That would be fine. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 16:19, 14 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Another one where there is no mention at the target. Given there are only about 2000 people, mostly Chinese and Buddhist, I'd be surprised if there are any practitioners of Hinduism on Christmas Island and I have no idea why anyone would even search for this term. It's actually misleading because these redirects get picked up by search engines Legacypac (talk) 18:37, 10 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Retarget to Wikipedia per my argument at RfD five years ago (to the day, in fact), or failing that keep. The term is used in TV Tropes pages to refer to Wikipedia, and it's plausible that someone reading a page with such a reference might come here to find out what it means. Note that the TV Tropes article also mentions this phrase, so keeping this would be preferable to deleting it. Unlikely search term. When this was an "article" (a term I use loosely), it was a not-so-clever way to refer to...well y'know. At the very least, the redirect, with its spacing issues, needs to be moved without retaining the original version. TheGracefulSlick (talk) 16:32, 10 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Delete. Weird capitalization makes this an unlikely search term. Given the vagueness of the expression, even the overcapitalization-corrected Mini-system redirect is suspect. • Keep. According to Emojipedia, the Unicode name is "Information Desk Person". Information desk redirects to help desk, so this one is fine. -- Tavix (talk) 22:29, 10 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
    • Per my comment above, no one knows what it means even if it has an official definition. The question should be whether it is visually unambiguous, which it isn't. Also, on a personal note, I'm glad I'm not the only person who thinks it means someone is being sassy according to Emojipedia TonyBallioni (talk) 01:09, 11 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
    • @Tavix: Seems different sites have different definitions. The emoji list at Unicode.org defines this emoji as "person tipping hand". Is either source more "official" than the other? IMO, I do not think so, especially considering that Unicode.org and Emojipedia.org are both ".org"s. Steel1943 (talk) 15:12, 11 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
      • I was wondering about that, because Emojipedia does list both. My assumption is that "information desk person" was the original definition, and it was changed to "person tipping hand" some time later (probably when they gendered it). Since "person tipping hand" has no logical target on Wikipedia, I think the "information desk person" definition would be the only one we can provide a target for. -- Tavix (talk) 16:03, 11 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment is there some way to limit Wikipedia from being Emojipedia, perhaps by notability in reliable sources? Are we obligated to provide a search result for every new emoji created? • Home stereo systemShelf stereo  (talk · links · history · stats)     [ Closure: keep/retarget/delete ]

Delete. This should be a redlink so the proper article gets created. This term almost never means shelf stereo (boombox); the "system" in it indicates it refers to a component stereo system a.k.a. rack stereo system, but these are also redlinks. We appear to somehow actually not yet have the article on the typical home stereo setup of the 1960s through 1990s. These systems are today an integral part of a home theater setup, but even Home theater is a disambiguation page and doesn't include anything pertaining to component/rack home stereo systems in particular. If we really do already have the right article under some name, then this should redirect to it, as should the other redlinks above. The article may really be missing, though. Even at articles like Preamplifier and Audio power amplifier (i.e., specific components of such systems), there's no indication of such an article, and people are writing awkward circumlocutions like "consumer electronics sound products" and "high-end stereo". Also, the Home entertainment system DAB, too, is also conspicuously lacking an entry on the concept, having one for home theaters, and one for computers used as replacements for home stereo systems, but not one for home stereo systems.  — SMcCandlish ¢ ≽ʌⱷ҅ʌ≼  01:15, 10 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
