Re-establishment of British rule on the Falkland Islands

The result of the discussion was keep. I don't see consensus for adding a hatnote at the target, so I'm leaving that to the discretion of editors. (non-admin closure) Uanfala (talk) 11:08, 20 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Ambiguous. Could refer to the Falklands War, better off being retargeted to Falklands Crisis. --Nevéselbert 21:25, 12 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep In 1833, the British worried at American incursions into the Falkland Islands reasserted their rule over the Falkland Islands ousting an Argentine garrison. Anyone even vaguely familiar would see the events of 1833 as the natural redirect, not the events of 1770 which were concluded by a treaty that returned matters to the status quo. It has been a long standing stable redirect, that was altered without discussion by the proposer. WCMemail 22:09, 12 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep No need to change a long term stable redirect. - Nick Thorne talk 07:13, 13 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • This is a very difficult article to name. Each side has its own terminology (not all of which are redirects - I may go and create a few). Neutral sources tend to refer to these events using a verb phrase (Britain took control of the islands in 1833), often one that doesn't have a useful noun phrase. The longstanding consensus is - in the absence of a single WP:COMMONNAME - to use a descriptive phrase instead.
This redirect is from a previous article title that was used from June 2008 to December 2012, when the article was moved to the current name. Because it is a descriptive phrase basically invented by Wikipedians, it's a pretty unlikely search term. So the redirect's primary use is probably going to be to provide a target for links created in the period 2008-12, including those from external websites. Per WP:R#KEEP, this is an appropriate reason to retain the redirect, and per WP:EXTERNALROT it is better to retain the link to the specific article rather than create a dab page - this applies particularly given how few people are likely to actually type in "Re-establishment of..." looking for 1982. So I say keep. Kahastok talk 08:07, 13 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep per Kahastok. A hatnote pointing to other events can be added if desired. Thryduulf (talk) 10:00, 13 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep per Kahastok and hatnote per nom. ---- Patar knight - chat/contributions 10:03, 13 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Ambiguous. Could refer to the tubby North Korean leader or one of his lieutenants, e.g. President of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly. --Nevéselbert 20:17, 12 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Disambig. Could refer equally to North or South Korean presidents. Thryduulf (talk) 22:34, 12 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

This article was originally created to describe the Khari-bulbul as the national flower of Azerbaijan, but there is no evidence that the flower enjoys such a designation. As such, the existence of this redirect is misleading. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 13:35, 12 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete The Chinese Wikipedia article says that it refers to the Three Kingdoms era, and that there is no mention of 12 Tiger Generals in the history but that the author Chen Shou mentioned it in a statement. It could redirect to Five Tiger Generals which seems to be the more appropriate term, but that article isn't specific to Jiangdong. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 13:06, 13 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

With the exception of Doef, these are all mixed-transliteration redirects, caused by an apparent bug in Eubot that made it convert capital Ö/Ä/Ü to O/A/U even when it was converting lowercase ö/ä/ü to oe/ae/ue. The combination of these different methods in a single redirect results in very implausible spellings, and we've had a pretty good consensus to delete them unless there are special reasons to keep. Other Ovoerkhangai redirects, for example, have been recently deleted here and here.
A few of these do have page views above noise level. Narin teel, Ovoerkhangai has 53 hits in the new tool's DB because it used to be linked from the Teel dab page; I think that, rather than showing the plausibility of the spelling, this shows the harm of keeping these redirects as bad spellings are copied and perpetuated. Doef has 54 hits and Uruen has 24, but in both cases the users were probably looking for completely different targets and giving them search results would be better. (Uppercase DOEF points to 2,5-Dimethoxy-4-(2-fluoroethyl)amphetamine, but I'm not sure that's a good target for the lowercase version.) Ozguerluek Icimizde is at 18 hits, slightly above noise level; but the extra hits all go back to 2015, it's been at noise level for the last 20 months. The rest have received no page views or minimal page views (Aijaensuo Arena at 16 hits is the most popular, compared to a noise level of 10-12 hits); and as far as I could tell, none of these spellings have been independently used off-wiki. Sideways713 (talk) 11:43, 12 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete all. Only Doef and Uruen get any human use outside Wikipedia, Wikipedia mirrors and Wikipedia derivatives, but in both cases the uses are not related to the target article. "Doef" seems to be about Neil Doef, a former hockey player who suffered a spinal injury before he could play for a major team and who doesn't seem otherwise notable. He has a list entry at E.J. McGuire Award of Excellence, but there is no information other than that he won this award so a {{R from surname}} is significant overkill. Uruen is about Javier Uruen, who is a seemingly non-notable programmer/musical artist who gets one mention on Wikipedia in the 2009 table at List of FLOSS Weekly episodes but redirecting this to here would be even less useful that in the Doef case as it's a massively bigger list and the tables are collapsed by default. "Ozguer" on its own is a username used by one or more people on various sites, but never in combination with any of the names in the list above. Thryduulf (talk) 13:03, 12 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete all. The mapping of umlauted vowels to e-suffixed vowels is a convention from German orthography and has nothing to do with anglicizing Mongolian, Hungarian, or Turkish. "DÖF" is German but it's an acronym. Largoplazo (talk) 13:15, 12 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
