  • YorubansYoruba people  (links · history · stats)     [ Closure: keep/retarget/delete ]

This is a hoax. There's nothing called "Yorubans". the denonym for Yoruba is "Yoruba". You can't find "Yoruban" anywhere as an alternative spelling for Yoruba. Jamie Tubers (talk) 20:38, 8 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep as an {{R from incorrect name}} per nom's reasoning. Steel1943 (talk) 20:39, 8 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment - I created this redirect as it's a misnomer I've heard people use. I think it's reasonable to assume that someone interested in Yoruba people might type in "Yorubans" when looking for that article. I did it specifically because many people do not know the correct nomenclature. Best, - CorbieV 21:01, 8 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Per Steel1943 and nom, I've been bold and added the {{Redr|from incorrect name}} template. Though since I haven't used this particular template before, I'd appreciate someone glancing to make sure I did so correctly. Thanks! - CorbieV 21:19, 8 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep with the incorrect name template. Yoruban, the singular, has been here since 2005. The word, misconception that it is, nevertheless can be found all over and is a mistake we may as well anticipate. Compare Mayan, Mayans, as well as Mandinkan language. —Largo Plazo (talk) 01:00, 9 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep per Steel -- 70.51.44.60 (talk) 03:27, 9 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep per above, but should it target the Yoruba dab page? Yoruban points there. I've boldly changed the redr template to the {{R from incorrect name}} template - CorbieVreccan did it right, but I think it's preferable to place the singular rcats when there is only one. Is this a joke? Piracy could make certain trading "high risk", but this phrase seems like a very obscure synonym for piracy itself, if not altogether made up. As far as I can tell from the few sources found, this film was slated to start filming in early 2011 directed by one Van Fisher,[1] but either never started filming or wasn't finished.[2] I include in the discussion the redirect A Pure LIfe (film). -- Sam Sailor Talk! 08:41, 8 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Note - I have tagged and added A Pure LIfe (film) to this nomination. Ivanvector 🍁 (talk) 14:46, 8 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per above, I have nothing further to add about this specific film. As a background though: Captain Assassin! created hundreds of WP:CRYSTAL film redirects in May-June 2013, usually redirecting to a director or actor "tied" to the film. The problem with this is that the rumor mill with films is huge, and just because a director signs on to a script, it doesn't mean that the film is going to be made (and if it does, it could be years or even decades later). These been appearing pretty frequently lately at RFD (I've nominated a bunch, Steel1943 among others have also nominated a few: you can see a bunch of examples at Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2015 September 11). -- Tavix (talk) 15:54, 8 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was retarget to Continent#Subcontinents. --BDD (talk) 13:57, 15 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

A subcontinent is just a term for a localized landmass in any continent. I don't understand why this redirect is pointing to a specific subcontinent in Asia; it's misleading. I understand that "Indian Subcontinent" is sometimes referred to as "The Subcontinent". However, The Subcontinent is already redirected to the article. Per WP:DIFFCAPS, "The Subcontinent" is not the same as "Subcontinent", with a very different and generalized meaning. Jamie Tubers (talk) 02:39, 8 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Strong delete People searching for this term would already know what the Indian subcontinent is, but want to find info on a generic term. - Champion (talk) (contribs) (Formerly TheChampionMan1234) 03:49, 8 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget to Continent#Subcontinents, where they can someone can "find info on a generic term." -- Tavix (talk) 03:52, 8 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • COMMENT: This is a good option as well. I don't mind a retarget to this link.--Jamie Tubers (talk) 13:55, 8 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment: all of the links in the searchlink you provided explicitly stated "Indian Subcontinent", not "Subcontinent". And btw, what comes on in searches doesn't rule out what a primary topic is. A good example, is a search for Federal Capital Territory, which brings up only the Nigerian FCT (in exact words in fact), but it doesn't make Nigerian FCT the primary topic of the term, which can also be a generic term for many capital territories. see WP:NWFCTM.--Jamie Tubers (talk) 14:30, 8 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment: Except that Nigeria's capital territory is the only modern day territory with the exact name. Which is why Nigeria's federal territory is bound to hog up Google search. Australia's federal territory's name was changed while Pakistan's was moved to Rawalpindi. Nonethelss it still is a general term, unlike "subcontinent". Filpro (talk) 01:18, 9 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget to the generic term at Continent#Subcontinents per Tavix. This looks like a general term to me, and a reader looking for what a subcontinent is will be disappointed with an article on the Indian one, or possibly misled into believing that it is the only one. Ivanvector 🍁 (talk) 15:52, 8 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget to Continent#Subcontinents seems best. Just Chilling (talk) 18:06, 8 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget to Indian subcontinent. See Talk:Subcontinent. First the article was put listed for speedy deletion by you for hoax and now you think it's misleading? Keep it where it was. Subcontinent is not a generalised word and it is rarely used if it all. However when it is used, it almost always refers to the Indian subcontinent. Nearly all reputable dictionaries use the Indian subcontinent as the only example since it's the only place on Earth that completely fits the criteria for one and also the general definition for subcontinent itself is defined by the Indian subcontinent. (geographical boundaries such as the Himalayas and the Indian Ocean as well as being on a separate tectonic plate from Eurasia)
Regardless, the News, books, TV, and media in general all use subcontinent in context of the one the article is currently redirected to. Changing the name would be even more misleading. A general definition can be included at both the continent article and Indian subcontinent but that's about it. Filpro (talk) 01:17, 9 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget to Continent which indicates subcontinents. Not all of use speak ye olde British English -- 70.51.44.60 (talk) 03:40, 9 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Disambiguation page? Another option would be to turn it into a disambiguation page as I think this (Draft:Subcontinent (set index)) AFC submission was trying to do. At it appears to be a fairly split opinion on what to redirect to Indian subcontinent, Continent#Subcontinents or Continent and no one so far wants to go back to it as its own article. A disambiguation page lets the reader choose what they were looking for. KylieTastic (talk) 16:09, 10 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • I would oppose a disambiguation page, as that's what Continent#Subcontinent does: it explains what a subcontinent is and lists the various entities that have been referred to as a "subcontinent" (including India). -- Tavix (talk) 16:19, 10 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • I'm not sure if a hatnote is necessary, seeing that Indian subcontinent is described in the prose of the section. -- Tavix (talk) 02:29, 14 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
