  • Retarget to Konfyt. This was wrongly retargeted by a bot and should simply be corrected as 'R from alternate spelling' and 'R from move'. No reason to delete a plausible search term when it can simply be fixed. Just Chilling (talk) 22:54, 12 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Previous RfDs for this redirect and similar redirects:
  • MuricaMurcia  (links · history · stats)     [ Closure: keep/retarget/delete ]

There's no compelling reason for this redirect to the Spanish mid-sized city. There is, however, a fairly compelling alternate target: American patriotism. A web search for Murica returns millions of results (I know, I know) and scads of actual, mostly reputable news sources that use the term. It's almost always used as a way of referring to American patriotism. The prior redirect was to Stereotypes of Americans and had no reason to point there; this proposed target is much more in line, according to sources, with what a typical reader is expecting when they type in "Murica". Red Slash 02:11, 11 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep plausible typo. - TheChampionMan1234 02:23, 11 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget to 'Murica as an even more plausible typo. -- Tavix (talk) 02:29, 11 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete - However, I have a pretty hard time in figuring out what exactly it should link to. Clearly, this is a mocking term that's used both by some Americans as a kind of self-deprecation (akin to 'redneck', I suppose) and also as a negative comment on the downsides of how extreme nationalism among religious U.S. white conservatives gets. A plausible case can be made for linking it to 'Americanism (ideology)', 'American nationalism', 'American exceptionalism', 'American patriotism', and any number of articles, though. Perhaps it's best to just leave it as going to nothing? CoffeeWithMarkets (talk) 03:33, 11 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
    • Then that's the same problem with 'Murica and not just "Murica" -- 67.70.32.190 (talk) 04:44, 11 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget to 'Murica as a {{R from alternate spelling}} since it is sometimes spelled that way -- 67.70.32.190 (talk) 04:43, 11 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Retarget to 'Murica as an alternative spelling. --Rubbish computer 13:07, 11 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget to 'Murica with a hatnote to Murcia. It's a plausible misspelling but the proposed target is better. Ivanvector 🍁 (talk) 15:18, 11 August 2015 (UTC) struck per Si's comment below and my own further down[reply]
  • Yes. that would make sense if the article 'Murica existed, which on my system it does not, even though it shows as blue. Si Trew (talk) 21:14, 11 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Oh it does as a wiktiomary éink but I don't think that is helpful. Delete. You want to know a word, look in a dictionary. WP:NOTDIC, WP:RFD#D5 WP:RFD#D2 Si Trew (talk) 21:20, 11 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It's not confusing or nonsense because they're being directed to a place that covers the topic they've searched for. -- Tavix (talk) 21:39, 11 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
No, it goes to a place they are probably WP:ASTONISHed to arrive at. Si Trew (talk) 05:18, 12 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • But is it not better to redirect to an article rather than a soft redirect to Wiktionary? Alakzi (talk) 21:26, 11 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Do you have one in mind? -- Tavix (talk) 21:39, 11 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Well, Murcia. Alakzi (talk) 21:44, 11 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Or Mercia or Maurice or Morris or Moroccan. I mean, either it is or it isn't. I just think this is best left to the search engine, hence calling for deletion. Si Trew (talk) 05:18, 12 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps it's just me or WP:WORLDWIDE, but I have never heard the United States called Murica nor 'Murica (I lived in Texas for a couple of years, but that is hardly the United States). It is WP:ASTONISHing to me. Since 'Murica is just a soft redirect to Wiktionary, we would, in effect, have a cryptic double redirect were we to retarget there. Si Trew (talk) 05:27, 12 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget to 'Murica as an R from alt spelling. Not sure a hatnote to Murcia is needed. Sideways713 (talk) 11:16, 12 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep as {{R from misspelling}}. I'm going to go trout myself for not checking the target first. 'Murica is a wiktionary soft redirect; I assumed we actually had an article about the boisterous patriotic American stereotype. I sure we could have such an article but we don't, but we do have an actual article for which this is a plausible typo. It would also be a double redirect if it pointed to a soft redirect. Ivanvector 🍁 (talk) 15:53, 12 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It's not really a misspelling though, it's an {{R from abbreviation}} or {{R from slang}} or both. But since it's essentially a double redirect I still have my doubts that it should be anything. I realise I am in the minority: So was Hitler when he started. (Joke) Si Trew (talk) 23:32, 12 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
That's the strangest demonstration of Godwin's law I've seen in a while. I meant that it's a misspelling of Murcia. It is, of course, not a misspelling of "'Murica". Ivanvector 🍁 (talk) 17:24, 19 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep per Ivanvector. I was the nom of the previous RFD discussion; Ivanvector's comment basically sums up my thoughts. That, and per the Wiktionary entry wikt:America, it doesn't look like the version of this word without an apostrophe an the beginning is an acceptable alsmg version of "America". (This is a bit odd since merica is listed, but it is what it is, it seems.) Steel1943 (talk) 16:02, 12 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Big EarThe Big Ear  (links · history · stats)     [ Closure: keep/retarget/delete ]

I don't know what to do with this. When I found it, somewhat had made it into an article that only had a Taxobox. I reverted it back to its original state as a redirect, but I don't see it in its target. I'm not sure what to do with it, so I've brought it here. Compassionate727 (talk) 15:50, 18 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Retarget both (because The Big Ear is also a redirect) to Ohio State University Radio Observatory, a SETI project known as the "Big Ear" and the original target of The Big Ear. The European Champion Club's Cup (both redirects' current target via double redirection) is a trophy with handles that look like ears; according to the article it has picked up nicknames which allude to this in several languages which are not English. It's therefore not useful to English readers to point it at the trophy, and the original target is better. The IP attempting to create an article here is a repeat vandal. • Delete: The redirects are 1:1 transcriptions of Nietzsche's name into Hebrew script ('Nietzsche', 'Friedrich Nietzsche', 'Nietzsche, Friedrich'), which isn't useful. The only relation here is a) Nietzsche is known for condemning antisemitism and b) Nietzsche is known for criticizing Christianity and Judaism. The result of the discussion was no consensus, default to keep. Even though the active pool of RfD participants have changed, we're still split between race stage and road bicycle racing#Stage races as the best target for this redirect. Deryck C. 13:04, 28 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Redirect to Road bicycle racing#Stage races. Seems to be the only thing specifically called that.Godsy(TALKCONT) 05:11, 2 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep Adequately explained at the target article, which says, "In bicycling and running events, a race with stages is known as a stage race." So it's just just bike races. --BDD (talk) 15:49, 3 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget per Godsy (along with Stage races and Stage race). To answer the nominator's question, yes, I think they're different. One is referring to a type of race ran in stages, and the other is talking about the stages themselves. Since a "stage race" is referring to the actual race type, let's take them to a section that talks about that. BTW: I just added a wiki-link from that section to race stage. -- Tavix (talk) 19:47, 5 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep per BDD. The term is most commonly used for bicycle racing these days (I'm biased) but certainly has uses in other sports: a yacht racing regatta can be made up of stages, an automobile rally race is often made up of special stages, and probably plenty of others which I'm not familiar with. A hot air balloon race would make a good stage race, probably, and events like The Amazing Race fit the definition of a stage race. Actually there's probably a case to be made for converting the target into a set index since it currently only really deals with road bicycle racing, but we could instead probably have a pretty decent article summarizing stage races in other sports. With history full of people using the Bible to sell something (books, sets of ideas, t-shirts, etc), even a disambiguation page would be a POV minefield anyways for what gets included and what is not included (What about intelligent design propaganda and anti-LGBT propaganda citing the Bible? Holocaust denial propaganda citing the Bible?). CoffeeWithMarkets (talk) 06:45, 22 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Delete as WP:RFD#D8 per the earlier RFD on November Yankee → New York. I'm not nominating the only two other redirects of this form (Victor CharlieViet Cong and Whiskey Hotel → White House) because they've both entered popular usage to refer to those specific targets. However, this NATO phonetic alphabet spelling is not widely used either for the U.S. state or anything else on MD (disambiguation). 58.176.246.42 (talk) 01:36, 18 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete per nom and Tavix, as well as my comment in the November Yankee discussion: if this redirect targets a location that goes by the initials "MD" ... for one, there will always be an WP:ASTONISH-ment factor for someone trying to look up an actual subject with this name ... and this redirect essentially assumes that the entire world is aware of the NATO phonetic alphabet, which isn't helpful since assuming no clue makes for a clearer encyclopedic experience. • Tony South (Paralympian)Tony South  (links · history · stats)     [ Closure: keep/retarget/delete ]

Tony South is the primary article, so the disambiguation appears unnecessary to me. If another "Tony South" arises in the future, the current article would be moved back to the redirect page. There is nothing in the history, so I can't see the purpose of it being there now. AtHomeIn神戸 (talk) 01:19, 18 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep. The redirect is the result of a page move occurring immediately before this nomination, so it's very likely readers will look for this article at the old title. Also, there's nothing wrong with the redirect; the person covered in the target article is indeed a Paralympian. Merely being "unnecessary" would not be sufficient reason to delete this. 209.211.131.181 (talk) 01:34, 18 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I found this, which looks like an old Usenet FAQ that became a university lecture, and seems to have been written by a scholar so may be somewhat reliable, but it doesn't help with finding a target. Delete, unlikely misspelling of "Kussmaul-Maier disease" Cyrej (talk) 14:54, 18 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep per WP:CHEAP. It's the unhyphenated version of a one letter typo, seems unlikely to cause any confusion. Compassionate727 (talk) 15:01, 18 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment I speedy-deleted this redirect. I must confess that I was disallowing it on the basis that the presence or absence of the hyphen makes no essential difference; I overlooked the one-letter typo. Kussmaul-Maier disease is, of course, correctly stated to be an alternative name for polyarteritis nodosa, so the redirect was correct in spirit if not quite correct in spelling. If the community would like a correct spelling, still with the redirect, inserted I have no objection. Obviously. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Anthony Bradbury (talkcontribs) 15:16, 18 August 2015‎ (UTC)[reply]
  • Clarification There are actually two typos - Kussmall, Meier - and the hyphen in the redirect, which is why I thought it unlikely people search for exactly that misspelling. However, seeing how this is turning out to be confusingly missable to many people here and considering WP:CHEAP, perhaps it should be kept. Cyrej (talk) 21:03, 18 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep per WP:RTYPO and WP:CHEAP - it's one typo per word, not counting the hyphenation which we normally keep alternatives for anyway. While two typos may be implausible, it's certainly not confusing with another target. Ivanvector 🍁 (talk) 21:10, 18 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
