The following discussion is an archived debate of the proposed deletion of the miscellany page below. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page (such as the page's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this page.

The result of the debate was Delete (WP:SNOW). Consensus is already clear, and there can only be one outcome here. It's nice to receive a barnstar, and it's nice to give one, but they have no official status and no standards apply; furthermore Wikipedia is not a competition. --kingboyk 21:55, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia:List of Wikipedians by number of total stars

Barnstars are given to thank a user; they are not in any way an "award" or entitlement. Having the most barnstars should not be something to recognize somebody for. PTO 21:37, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep, harmless. Crotalus horridus (TALKCONTRIBS) 22:40, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Userfy, pointless. >Radiant< 23:22, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Userify but I'd be willing to see it deleted. The list is a bad idea for many reasons, but if someone wants it in their userspace to keep track of relative bragging rights for the 11 users listed, be my guest. -- Scientizzle 23:31, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a collection of shiny things. The creator was thinking of a magpie's nest and seems to have made this instead. Picaroon 23:55, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete Per what Wikipedia is not. Useless. ~ UBeR 00:04, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Userfy if you absolutely must. If that happens, though, I am going to MfD it again the instant someone starts using it in a debate. -Amarkov moo! 01:23, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete - To me, the great thing about barnstars is anyone can give them to anyone as a thanks or whatever. This is turning wiki into an MMORPG which it is not. Greeves (talk contribs) 02:57, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete as wikipedia is a competition. OK, that may not be a direct part of WP:NOT, but it should be.--Jayron32|talk|contribs 05:08, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete Barnstars are for giving and receiving, not for competition. --Samuel Wantman 07:22, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • 'Delete Hateful and offensive competition, the number of barnstars a user has is based on the quality of their edits, barnstars arent't just given to become "top of the competition".Tellyaddict 16:30, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete pointless and impossible to upkeep --Maelwys 19:39, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Userfy. Not a good idea overall. We are not competing. Herostratus 22:49, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete - I've seen people give stars to themselves, and worse, the stars are often given by POV pushers to each other. This is like back in 10th grade when people would rate their classmates based on how cool they are. Pointless to say the least. Part Deux 00:09, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete this isn't what barnstars is about. --`/aksha 00:55, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete - it's a good way to track who has the most barnstars, and thus who wins. However, I'm not given barnstars at a rate acceptable to me, so this page hurts my feelings and makes me feel unpopular. GracenotesT § 04:30, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete, bad idea. Quarl (talk) 2007-03-21 05:45Z
  • Keep, because I'm in the top 10! Userfy. Pointless, but I don't think it's exactly problematic either. --tjstrf talk 05:54, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete Stars are nice, but we don't want them to be competitive. Tyrenius
  • Delete Ranking people in this way only encourages the wrong sort of attitude. /Blaxthos 15:10, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete. A bad idea, and how would one maintain this list? I believe some people delete their barnstars or hide them anyway... Grandmasterka 20:32, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete there are so many users with awards; this page would be hard to maintain. Acalamari 20:35, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
