WP:NFCC violation -- copyrighted non-free book cover is being used to illustrate a living person in a biography article infobox as a headshot. This kind of image should only be used on a book article, and not a biographical article infobox. As this is a living person, it is quite possible to produce a new free image unencumbered by non-free copyright restrictions 70.51.202.113 (talk) 06:06, 23 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

• Oppose. Book cover is a book cover. Book covers are not replaceable by design, especially the best-sellers such as this. Our article "about the author" is in fact devoted entirely to that book, and has already been proposed for renaming under the book title during the AfD. This submission in as an attempt to get the upper hand in that debate by a logged out user (most likely partial to the outcome). See also, exceptions at WP:NFC#UUI.   • Per WP:NFC#UUI The following is a non-exhaustive list of examples where non-free content may not be used outside of the noted exceptions. Pictures of people still alive, groups still active, and buildings still standing; provided that taking a new free picture as a replacement (which is almost always considered possible) would serve the same encyclopedic purpose as the non-free image. This includes non-free promotional images. So, the book cover is unacceptable use, and specifically listed as being prohibited. The use of the book cover to illustrate the biographical infobox is an invalid use of the book cover. If the article is renamed to be about the book the image can be reuploaded, but as it is currently, it is not an acceptable image to use. Violations of copyright are a much greater problem than whatever happens about notability and content at AfD. AfD is not dealing with the legality of the situation, since the text of the article does not appear to be a copyright violation, while the use of this image contravenes our legal guidance given by NFCC -- 70.51.202.113 (talk) 04:34, 24 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

• Struck out what's completely irrelevant. I said, this is a cover of a best-seller. It includes fair use rationales for non-free book covers and other book art as required by WP:NFC and WP:FURG. The book art image is inserted into a relevant article. Non-free media information and use rationale for a non-free book cover just added to file description. • Please do not modify other people's comments. You are clearly in error, as other people have pointed out the same thing on your talk page. It is unacceptable use of fair-use image. It clearly violates NFCC No free equivalent. Non-free content is used only where no free equivalent is available, or could be created, that would serve the same encyclopedic purpose.

Per the discussion at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions/Archive/2015/September#File:Godhra Train Burning Image.jpg. While there's doubt over whether the PD status applies to reports made to state legislatures, there's also the opinion that report itself makes use of this image (along with others) as fair use. I'd left a note for the uploader and at Talk:Godhra train burning to see if anyone wanted to change this to a fair use image, but haven't heard anything on that. —SpacemanSpiff 19:26, 23 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

• Use common sense, and don't waste the time of the community. We have an image https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Korean_diaspora.png of a map and an image https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Korean_diaspora.png of a list. And instead of renaming the first one File:Korean_diaspora_map.png and the other File:Korean_diaspora_list.png or anything like that, User:Stefan2's proposal is to delete one of them.
