The result of the discussion was: renamed. (non-admin closure) SSTflyer 03:29, 29 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: The "Champions" part of the name should be in lower case, to match similar categories such as Category:World Boxing Association champions, etc. Mac Dreamstate (talk) 15:20, 21 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: No reason to have a sub-category for one weight class, when they can all be lumped into the same one. Mac Dreamstate (talk) 15:24, 21 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Rename -- correct capitalisation. Peterkingiron (talk) 18:00, 21 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: It is unclear what is exactly energy resource facilities and how it is different from the energy infrastructure. The energy resource facilities tree is used only for the United States as a part of subcategory for the energy infrastructure while all other countries energy categories use only the energy infrastructure tree. It is unclear why we need a different categorization tree for the United States. There was similar discussion back in 2012 which was closed as keep. Since then, the overall country-specific categories tree has been developed. Beagel (talk) 09:59, 21 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Huh, "resource" to me suggested extraction (drilling, mining, refining, smelting) but not power generation and distribution grids. RevelationDirect (talk) 23:26, 22 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge but Neutral on New Name In practice, I think these categories should be combined because there is not a clear distinction. Per the comments above, I'm neutral on whether is a merge, reverse merge or a new name entirely. RevelationDirect (talk) 23:26, 22 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge Seems OK; the rest of the world seems to use "Infrastructure" as does America for other types of infrastructure (see Category:Infrastructure in the United States and Category:Infrastructure in California) Hugo999 (talk) 03:46, 23 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge all as nominated. "Energy resource facilities" aren't clearly defined and even in the U.S. won't be WP:COMMONNAME for these. Rather subdivide by more specific types of infrastructure if there's enough content. --PanchoS (talk) 18:16, 27 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Lincoln conspirators

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: rename Category:Lincoln conspirators to Category:Lincoln assassination conspirators. A majority in number and argument clearly wanted a rename. As far as a merge goes, that part is tricky, since the discussion pivoted from an upmerge to merging Category:People associated with the assassination of Abraham Lincoln into the renamed category. Opinion on that seems roughly split, and it would require a purge of what seems like most of the category. Therefore, I find no consensus to merge at this time. That being said, this closure is without prejudice against a new discussion regarding the deletion of Category:People associated with the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. -- Tavix (talk) 18:26, 29 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: Suggestion on my UserTalk Page from User:Americus55 relating to Category:People associated with the assassination of Abraham Lincoln which I recently created.--TommyBoy (talk) 04:31, 21 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure about that category either but such a merge would include a large purging as it includes a doctor in the ford Theater audience who tried to help and many other non-conspirators. RevelationDirect (talk) 20:02, 21 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
That is exactly my point, merging Category:People associated with the assassination of Abraham Lincoln to Category:Lincoln assassination conspirators would not make sense in this case, because that category also includes other people connected to the assassination of Abraham Lincoln such as witnesses and investigators.--TommyBoy (talk) 20:55, 21 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge both to Category:Lincoln assassination conspirators per Peterkingiron; "people associated with" could mean people not "responsible" for the assassination; Charles Leale, the doctor who treated Lincoln for gunshot is certainly "associated with" the assassination; indeed, he is probably only notable on that score. But, he was not a conspirator, nor was Secretary Stanton, the Vice President, some body guards we have articles on (Henry Rathbone and Ward Hill Lamon), again probably only notable for their "association" with the assassination. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 18:07, 22 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Like I said in response to User:Peterkingiron's comments, merging Category:People associated with the assassination of Abraham Lincoln to Category:Lincoln assassination conspirators would not make sense in this case, because that category also includes other people connected to the assassination of Abraham Lincoln such as witnesses and investigators.--TommyBoy (talk) 01:46, 23 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
If my suggestion is followed, the category will clearly need purging. My problem with "associated with" categories is that there is no limitation on how closely, so that editors are liable to add anyone remotely connected. Peterkingiron (talk) 12:39, 24 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I created Category:People associated with the assassination of Abraham Lincoln using the pre-existing Category:People associated with the assassination of John F. Kennedy as a model since that category and its subcategories include articles on the victims, suspects, witnesses, investigators, medical personnel, and other people closely connected to the assassination. Prior to my creation of Category:People associated with the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, Category:Lincoln conspirators and most of the articles in the newly-created category were previously included in Category:Assassination of Abraham Lincoln which I subsequently designated as a parent category of Category:People associated with the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. The reason I brought this newly-created category to the attention of the Categories for Discussion page was a suggestion from User:Americus55 to delete the pre-existing Category:Lincoln conspirators and then merge the articles from that category into Category:People associated with the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, or failing that, I would also be in favor of renaming Category:Lincoln conspirators to Category:Lincoln assassination conspirators while leaving Category:People associated with the assassination of Abraham Lincoln intact as a parent category thereof.--TommyBoy (talk) 02:50, 25 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • In principle, support -- They were brought on to Big Brother because they were already notable, and being a contestant was merely one performance in a career. The problem is that this is liable to be followed up by a nom for Category:Big Brother (UK) contestants, where many of the people are notable (if at all) for being contestants. A few have gone on to other things; but if we deleted that, we would be left with a lot of orphaned articles. This also applies to a few of the "celebrity" contestants were in fact not such, but put in to see what would happen. Peterkingiron (talk) 14:33, 18 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • I've had a look at the parent category as well, and the (potential) problem that Peterkingiron is mentioning does not really occur there, people in the parent category are also notable for more than just having been in Big Brother. So both the nominated category and the parent category may be deleted. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:37, 23 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep we routinely categorise reality TV contestants by which shows they were contestants on. For many of them it is defining. For many, it is what began their careers or kick-started their comebacks. Jim Michael (talk) 15:43, 12 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
These are celebrities, so an appearance on any TV show is merely one performance in their career, which is why it is non-defining and fails WP:PERFCAT. --Rob Sinden (talk) 15:59, 12 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Most of them are low-level celebs, rather than people who are properly famous. Some of them are of such low notability that they don't have their own articles - even after living in the CBB House. As I said, in some cases it is defining - because it launched their careers or comebacks. In some cases, it's what they're best known for. For years we have categorised reality TV contestants by which show(s) they participated on - whether they were celebs at the time or not. I don't see why this type of cat would not be valid for celebs, whilst being valid for non-celebs. Jim Michael (talk) 17:03, 12 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete Sure, these aren't "A list" celebrities going on this or Dancing with the Stars. It's people trying to restart their careers. Nonetheless, the whole point of these shows is that they are already (vaguely) remembered by the TV audience. That's makes this a performance category, not something that defines these people. RevelationDirect (talk) 10:43, 13 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete - A single performance does not become a defining characteristic for a celebrity for purposes of categorization.- MrX 11:44, 13 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Some of them aren't known by the large majority of people because CBB's definition of celebrity includes little-known models (such as Casey Batchelor), bit-part actors, (former) partners of celebs (such as Grant Bovey), people known only/primarily for appearing on reality shows (such as Stephen Bear) and people who are 'famous for being famous'. In some cases it is defining and/or the thing they're best known for - as is the case with Jade Goody. Jim Michael (talk) 13:31, 13 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete as PERFCAT. If they really are celebs, they will have an article anyway. Non-celeb contestants may need a category, because they will probably be notable for nothing else, though I would question whether such people should have articles at all. • As I've said, not all of them are proper celebs. Calling Casey Batchelor and Grant Bovey celebs is ridiculous. She's 'known' for doing a bit of glamour modelling. He's 'known' for formerly being married to Anthea Turner. Some celebrity reality TV contestants, such as Stephen Bear, are known only for appearing on reality TV shows. Stephanie Pratt has a successful career and high profile merely for appearing on reality shows. Jim Michael (talk) 09:49, 16 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Procedural keep per Lugnuts. This requires a renomination including child categories. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:37, 20 August 2016 (UTC) struck since relisting with child categories also solves the problem Marcocapelle (talk) 06:21, 21 August 2016 (UTC) [reply]

  • Delete per PERFCAT. anemoneprojectors 09:03, 22 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
None of these BB cats are within the scope of PERFCAT, because they're not performing roles. They're not acting roles, singing roles etc. They live in a house. Jim Michael (talk) 09:46, 22 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete performer by performance, we don't have these sorts of categories. I disagree with Jim Michael's comment above; these don't define them in exactly the performer by performance manner; if these were celebrities before, their appearance on the show is no more meaningful than being a guest (as themselves) on a talk show, game show, or such. We don't have Category:The Tonight Show guests, Category:Celebrity Jeopardy! contestants, etc. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 18:12, 22 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
It's much more meaningful than being interviewed on a talk show or being a contestant on a episode or two of a game show. They live in a house for weeks. Many of them aren't proper celebs. Jim Michael (talk) 08:49, 23 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • If living in a house with strangers for a couple of weeks defines them as people, the biography doesn't meet WP:GNG and ought to be deleted, or redirected per WP:BLP1E. Either way this category would be empty. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 21:12, 29 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: merge. (non-admin closure) Marcocapelle (talk) 03:59, 29 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Per WP:OVERLAPCAT, WP:SMALLCAT and WP:COMMONNAME
Operation Grapes of Wrath was an Israeli offensive against Hezbollah to discourage rocket attacks during the South Lebanon conflict (1985–2000). The only article in this category is that main article and it's not clear what else would go in this subcategory versus staying in the parent category, Category:South Lebanon conflict (1985–2000). Finally, I think the name of this operations (versus the novel of the same name) is too obscure to aid navigation for readers. - RevelationDirect (talk) 01:43, 21 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Note: The notified Dimadick as the apparent category creator and I added this discussion to WikiProject Lebanon. – RevelationDirect (talk) 01:43, 21 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Upmerge per nom When created (under a different name) this category was supposed to cover articles about a war in 1996. Since there is currently only a single article about the war as Operation Grapes of Wrath, there is little chance for expansion. Dimadick (talk) 11:45, 21 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Upmerge per nom. "Grapes of Wrath" is ultimately a Biblical allusion. However a one-article category is a waste of space. Peterkingiron (talk) 18:11, 21 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
