Suisei Hoshii

Suisei Hoshii (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View log · Stats)
(Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs) · FENS · JSTOR · TWL)

I did a Google search for the subject's name in quotes and for the word "Atlantis" - no results. I then did another one for subject and "Jorei" - no results, which is surprising given that he's supposed to be "the highest priest of the Atlantis Society", whatever that is. The only hits I got were when I searched as before with the word UFO, when two Japanese-language hits came up, and also I got a couple pages of results (nothing looking very compelling) when I searched 'photograph "Suisei Hoshii"' I think the subject MIGHT scrape notability based on their animation awards/film work, but it's tough to be sure. Perhaps The Polar Bear Story or the subject's production company are more notable than the actual subject himself? The page as it stands seems to be very promotional but seems JUST not quite totally promotional enough for a speedy, there is definitely content here to imply notability although it is hard for me to confirm. Perhaps Japanese language sources will be more helpful? However, as it stands, I find myself leaning fractionally more towards delete than keep, mainly due to the difficulty of finding sources actually ABOUT the subject. • Comment. The most conspicuous image here is File:ハリウッド国際映画祭 2016(2016 Hollywood International Moving Pictures Film Festival)しろくま物語(The Polar Bear Story)トロフィー.jpg. Its "source" and "author" are 宇宙クラブ, i.e. Uchū Kurabu, i.e. Uchu Club. Though the filename says it's for 2016, the photo shows that the award itself says "Winner August 2016 / Award of Recognition". What is this Hollywood International Moving Pictures Film Festival? It's redlinked, but its name pops up in odd places within en:WP (such as the meagrely sourced article Alexander Freeman (filmmaker)). It has a website: himpff.com. This tells us that it's not a yearly but a monthly award, that "All the winners will be invited to walk the Red Carpet, do interviews with the medias, network with Filmmakers from Hollywood", and that for August 2016, the month in question, there were forty "Awards of Recognition". -- Hoary (talk) 23:58, 1 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment. The other image is File:ハリウッドブルーバード映画祭(Hollywood Boulevard Film Festival)ゾウくんとコオロギくん(EDDY THE CIRCUS ELEPHANT - A Fairy Tale)賞状とトロフィー.jpg, whose "source" and "author" are again specified as 宇宙クラブ, i.e. Uchū Kurabu, i.e. Uchu Club. What is this Hollywood Boulevard Film Festival? Again, it's redlinked, but it's mentioned within the article Seyed Amir Parvin Hosseini. This helpfully links to the festival's curious website, hiffestival.com. (I say curious, because the website consists of a single web page.) "How does it works [sic]: / We accept all genres of films across the globe. All the films will go through the three stage reviewable [sic] process by ourhighly [sic] qualified and experienced jury who will go through a comprehensive evaluation process and select only high quality films." But fear not! "We believe that a Film-maker who is considering that our festival is our family and provide an excellent customer service to Film-Makers. THBFF is announcing the official selection results within 5 days time frame. That saves a lot of time of a film-maker." (I forgo the "[sic]"s.) The current page doesn't show any winners before November 2016. (Or indeed any after December 2016; is this award perhaps defunct?) But for November 2016, there were, I think, 16 films in the "official selection". (The layout makes it hard to count.) ¶ I almost start to think that we're looking at vanity awards here. -- Hoary (talk) 01:50, 2 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete. The award matter is ludicrously hyped (see above). There's no evidence of notability as a photographer. He may for all I know be notable as a proponent of UFO-related and other woo; but if he is, then this article with its fawning coverage of his minor cultural achievements is not the place to start. -- Hoary (talk) 11:03, 6 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • The acronym that eluded me on 6 March was of course WP:TNT. -- Hoary (talk) 00:05, 11 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment: the more one looks at this, the feebler it seems (which, in the context of UFO "research", perhaps isn't so surprising). Take a look at his list of TV appearances: "April 2011 Fukuoka FBS / Night Shuffle", reference is to a web page about the program in general, not this particular episode, no mention of this person; "January 2013 Fuji TV / Tokudane! (Voice only)", ditto; "October 2014 TV Asahi / Kanjani no Shiwake / Summit of occult and horror videos(関ジャニの仕分け∞)", link is to the ja:WP article about the program in general. ¶ And shall I say more about his photography? -- Hoary (talk) 00:05, 11 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete layering unconvincing claims of notability on top of one another, as this article does, does not magically transform them into a convincing one. None of the sources are convincing as independent, reliable and significant, and thus fails [[WP:GNG]. None of the applicable SNG's appear to help.
