I'm glad this question was raised. It should provoke some thoughtful (and I trust, irenic) discussion. I had written this article in response to a call for article creation by WikiProject Women/Women in Red/Women in religion. On the talk page for the project, I raised the question of notability. In this case, I believe she was added to their list because she was considered notable as a pioneering African-American missionary, an enterprise which had previously been full of Europeans and their descendants. And back at Spelman, she continued to recruit more to join her. She was not "just another missionary". Pete unseth (talk) 22:28, 19 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Keep Clear notability. African American woman, whose parents were slaves, educated as a teacher in 1880s were certainly not the norm in her time frame. Nor were women, regardless of race, often granted missionary posts. That she was the first Spelman graduate so placed, is significant. Multiple independent sources cited in the file, but additional sources are found as well. here newspapers.com article credited with beginning Spelman's missionary tradition, acclaimed missionary with additional source citations, founded a seminary in Africa in 1890 Does not appear as if WP:BEFORE was done. Keep As SusunW pointed out, there are plenty of sources. Whether or not we agree with missionary work (I don't ), it has had a huge impact on the world, the US and on African Americans in particular. Article clearly passes GNG too. Megalibrarygirl (talk) 01:34, 21 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
